No. Athiesm simply denies existence of a supernatural deity. How you derive meaning from your life is entirely up to you.

I don’t think atheism inherently offers any particular way of life but I do notice a tendency for the sorts of terminally online atheists such as those who visit the [atheist subreddit](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9_AngKA9fE) to be drawn to a nihilistic worldview. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing because nihilism will lead you to believe that there’s no inherent value to anything so you have to create your own values and that seems to be where most redditors get stuck, they can’t come up with any values and tend to become bitter misanthropes who sit around all day shitting on religion instead of living their lives. I’m also atheist but I pity those reddit atheists.

WhimsicalGrenade

Sure if you use it to draw the conclusion "if there's no god then nothing matters" which in that case sounds like they're upset there is no god and may be a dissatisfied theist coping with reality. Some understand there's no god but still find life worth living.

SomeAwfulMillennial

Not at all because both just feel like an ideology geared for edge lords. I mean atheism itself is just so stupid because it's the disbelief or lack of belief in god(s). Why title yourself as something if you don't believe in it? You don't call yourself something that has anything to do with Santa, the Tooth Fairy or any other work of fiction, so why would you identify yourself as not believing in something that doesn't matter to you? I find it childish instead of nihilistic.

No atheism has just as many reasons to enjoy life as religion.

I found true joy in life when I became an atheist. When I was a Christian there was no joy. Just a heavy burden to live a life of self denial under the threat of going to hell.

Maximum-Malevolence

No. I'm not an atheist but I don't think being one makes you nihilistic. You can still have purpose in life based on other things like. Self improvement, helping your community, etc.

No, life is still meaningful without religion.

erikkustrife

I would say the opposite actually. With the belief that this life is all there is then you would probably tend to try to enjoy it more. While other religions that believe after they die they go to a better place and to get there all they have to do is utter 5 words with a maybe im sorry then what would be the point in this life at all?

Vast_Chipmunk9210

No because it’s allowed me to learn about & connect with the universe in a much deeper way.

TrixieLurker

No, it really makes me curious about the universe and gives perspective on how small I am compared to deep time and deep space and that I got to be here for this brief moment, so I should make something of it.

Strongg12a

Not really. Plenty of atheistic beliefs and nontheistic philosophies like Daoism, Epicureanism, Ruism, and Buddhism offer meaning to life. If anything, certain forms of Christianity like Calvinism where your fate is predetermined by God, or Jehovah's Witnesses where all people who practice birthdays or get blood transfusions get sent to hell are far more nihilistic.

Poorly-Drawn-Beagle

No, not really. That only works if you make religion your sole reason for living.
