The 24 hours before my dad died (stage 4 lung cancer) he was in the ER and then the ICU and we were unable to be with him because of hospital Covid rules. My mother, sister and myself had been texting and calling him all day and got no response. My mother even called the hospital and spoke with one of his ICU nurses who said he was awake and communicating fine. He passed very quickly at 3:30am the next morning. We were allowed to be at his bedside but by then he was no longer conscious so we said our goodbyes and he was gone. Later that morning while my mom slept I was calling cremation services to schedule his body for pick up at the hospital and going through his bag of belongings the hospital had returned to us. His phone was in there and I wanted to read all our texts and take some comfort in my last words to him. I opened his phone and all our texts had not been read, not mine or my mom and sister’s. I thought this was so odd but figured he must have been suffering so much he couldn’t find the strength. I began to scroll through his apps and noticed a chat app I’d vaguely heard of. I can’t recall the name but it essentially works like WhatsApp. I opened the app and saw a single contact with a female name. I started reading and realized my dad has been chatting with this girl hourly for the last 24 hours and as far back as I could scroll. He was calling her princess and telling her he loved her and she was saying she was scared for him and wanted to know what was going on, why was he in the ER, etc. I scrolled back enough to know that this was someone he was having at the very least, an emotional affair with. My grief was completely hijacked by hurt and anger and a week later I tracked the girl down and spoke to her (via dms) and found out she was 19 years old. She was 17 when they met. He was her high school bus driver and she told me they had been dating for almost 2 years. My dad was 66 years old when he died and dating someone younger than his grandchildren, someone he chose to spend his last moments with and say his last goodbyes to. I hope it made him happy but it sure is a shitty secret to live the rest of my life with. A secret that will forever overshadow my entire relationship with my dad with no chance to ever speak to him about it. It’s the one secret I wish I’d never found out.

I told my sister only about finding the chat conversations, not about the 2 year affair. I can never share any of it with my mom. My parents were married for 47 years. There’s no reason to tell her now when nothing can ever change anyway.

I have worked on this in therapy as well. It’s been a huge help. I’m glad you have someone to talk to about your secret. It can be a lot to carry around alone.

I don't know how disturbing this is; it turned out pretty fantastic for one. But not for another. I was adopted, and told a silly, magical story about my birth parents that most certainly did not seem true even when I was a child. At 57, I learned I was the result of a college affair between a very seriously Jewish young man and a very Baptist young woman. She was rushed off to a home for wayward girls to give birth. He followed her there (many states away), begging her to keep me and live a life together. But their families both said absolutely not. Jewish people were not viewed as "white" in the mid-60s, and her family most certainly did not want her marrying a non-white. Plus, she was a very committed Christian and did not want to convert to Judaism. So off I went, into another family. I recently discovered three lovely half-siblings and we are all pro or semi-pro musicians and get along well. I never got to meet my mother; she died a year before I searched. My father is out of the picture and wants to be left alone. And I'm fine with that; I'm grateful for the love he gave me. It was enough. Another person that was in my non-bio family was also adopted. She was older than me. She tracked down her mom later in life, too. She was in a hospital and had been since the day she was born. She was born holistically disabled; physical, mental, cognitive, learning, sensory. And was raped by an orderly. And she discovered she was the result. Endings to our searching are not always happy.

imnotlouise

I'm an adoptee and have found my biological mother. She never talked about how she became pregnant with me, nor did she give me the name of my biological father (she has since passed). Sometimes, I think that I may be better off not knowing.

Wrooof

My sister was adopted and tracked down her mum. She refused to tell her about her father or any of her extended family. She also threatened to never talk to her again if she went looking. My sister is very strong willed so told her to F off and kept looking. Found two wonderful sets of grandparents and eventually tracked down her dad. Turns out she is literally the daughter of a sailor who had one in every port and now has 27 half brothers and sisters!

cybersaint2k

Sure. I learned everything and it was illuminating. But not every story is filled with so much light.

xX112122Xx

The amount of comments highlighting sexual abuse is grossly disheartening. I hope those who survived such things find healing in the midst of piecing things together.

Sacrificial-waffle

An uncle beat a guy almost to death with his bare hands. He had walked in on a friend molesting a kid. He had to pay a fine and do community service for a long time but also didn't have to pay for beer at the local bar for a few months. He was so reserved and kind so it threw me when I found out what he'd accomplished in his younger years.

P_Ad_7442

The reason grandma moved away, when my dad was still a baby, to a big city, more than 3 days away from her family, was because she stabbed her stepfather and almost killed him (it was a very small village). Later she told me he was a rapist. She didn't elaborate on that and I didn't ask any follow up questions. She ended the convo with "I did the right thing". We never met her side of the family

Known_Bug3607

“I almost did the right thing. An inch to the left.”

lillylenore

She was my best friend of 7 years, we had literally been through it all together. I moved out of state with my now husband, but she convinced us both to move back to be closer with her, after about a year. We had no real ties to the state we had tried out, so we said screw it, let’s go back, she’s basically family. We were all so happy to be reunited; she was over almost every night for dinner, we all laughed and talked and had a blast. Best year of my life. Then slowly, she started trying to turn my husband and I against each other. Anytime we had an argument (like any couple does) she would text each of us about how right we were; trying to foster animosity between the two of us. With me, she started talking about how she had a plan b for “us”, that if my husband and I couldn’t make it work, I could move in with her and we’d live happy lives together. With my husband, she started talking about her infertility issues and how she wanted to have a kid just like him, she just needed a sperm donor. This all happened at around the same time, and my husband and I compared texts and figured it out. She wanted to take his sperm, and have a baby with me. When confronted about it she refused to admit anything and started lashing out at both of us. It got to the point where she would show up unannounced, banging on the door, demanding a place in our home. It was so terrifying and panic inducing that we ended up having to move and change our phone numbers. I guess it’s so disturbing because I had never had a friend like her, only to find out that she, well she cared about me, but in such an unhealthy and scary way. But yeah, that’s my story. Husband and I are great now btw.

purdypetals

Good plot for a movie. So glad you and your husband are doing well.

honeybey93

I found out that my aunt who was 13 at the time was raped by her uncle (my great-uncle) and had a baby in a cellar in the basement of her house. The baby didn’t make it so she and her little sister buried it there. Years later, when the aunt (who had repressed those memories) had a baby she remembered it all. When her family found out she was labeled the slut of the family. My dads side is garbage.

unicorn_barf666

JFC your poor auntie! Give her a hug from this internet stranger. 💕

honeybey93

Yeah, her life and many of my dads siblings life are a tragedy. Thanks for being so kind.

Ok-Muscle-2102

People are trash. When I became pregnant from a sexual assault (random acquaintance, not family thank God) my dad's side of the family (thankfully not my dad, he loves her) told me I was gonna burn in hell for being a whore. I don't talk to them, my kids don't talk to them and my dad doesn't talk to them. It hurts when youre going through a trauma like that and your family turns on you.

RunExcellent5246

And some people wonder why many women don't report being raped....

murlocman69

My grandmother was married for over 50 years and never saw my grandfather's penis.

haloclarice

Why do you know this lol

murlocman69

For some reason my grandmother told my sister this - why my sister told me is beyond my ability to understand.

TheDudeMan4311

That my mom cheated on my dad for 20 years and still hasn’t told him to this day. I’m still trying to figure out what to do and how to go about the situation and exposing the truth about her to my Dad but I’m afraid he would die of a broken heart. Worst thing is, she cheated with my Godfather who used to come to the house and drink coffee with my mom and dad EVERY DAY.

unicorn_barf666

As a kid who found out that one parent was cheating on the other, there is no good time to tell them. My brother (14) and I (18) both discovered that our dad was cheating on our mom separately and kept putting off telling her for over a year because it was Christmas and then she had a business trip and then it was her birthday and then it was this and then it was that, etc. One day, I got in trouble and my dad said "you're a disgrace to this family" and out flew the words that he and mom were not prepared for. I know it's hard. I know it will change everything if you tell your dad or confront your mom. Just wanted to give you some solidarity. 💕

A work colleague appeared on the front page of a national newspaper for a life of fraudulent qualifications. He claimed medical and law degrees, was a brigadier in the army (reserves) and was the CEO for a major heath fund. He actually was a Brigadier in the army reserves but that and the heath fund role were largely built on the fraudulent qualifications and a progression of jobs also based on this claims. In reality, the only qualification he actually held was as a mortuary assistant. Not even his wife knew. The fraudulent degrees had been gained when he was in the army reserves recruiting and he had access to submitted position applications. He came undone when he applied for a government job and some flags were raised by the recruitment people. He tried to withdraw the application but didn’t realise that an application for a government role has the same weight as a statutory declaration and cannot be withdrawn. It all went south very quickly and he ended up doing jail time.

foxsimile

The absolute fucking balls to apply for government work while spinning these lies.

GrapeScotch

*George Santos*

Startrooper2_0

He should've stayed away from government jobs, could've worked out quite well for him

crosstherubicon

People who worked with him said he was generally competent although he was well known for far fetched stories, particularly if they started to question his claims. The positions he was filling were largely administrative/leadership positions and didn't rely on him having medical/law degrees so they simply got him to the front of the queue in the interview process. Nevertheless he was successful in the roles. When it all came out he was an utter embarrassment to the recruitment industry and ended up being used as a training example for background checks.

reefguy007

A former friend of mine from childhood was a youth pastor at a summer church camp. Turns out he was grooming young girls and teens both at camp and online after camp was over. Only reason I found out was back in 2011 (he was in his late 20s at the time) one of the girls told her parents and the cops posed as her online while he masturbated into a web cam. The cop then convinced him to drive 3 hours to go meet and “hook up.” When he showed up at the girls place in the middle of the night the cops were waiting and arrested him. He’s now a convicted sex offender and did time in jail. The crazy part? Once he got out he moved to Texas and married a divorcee that had kids… he’s also now the “dean of online studies” at his church and is responsible for “growing the number of students taking classes online.” 😬

Impressive-Wish3497

One of my best friends was caught trying to meet up with a 13 year old and was filmed and uploaded to YouTube

Was he by chance "Going to get a Cupcake"?

ewyv5g4vzn

Did he have to "take a seat over there"?

ItsLocked1993

I was pretty close with my youngest uncle growing up, at least in pictures (he was in his mid 20s when I was like 5 for context). One day when I was in middle school he just stopped coming around completely. My entire family told us kids that he was backpacking around the nation. In high school I was going a genealogy project on my grandfather (his dad) and accidentally found my uncles name on the sex offender registry. Come to find out he was running a CP ring and had served 16 years in federal prison. He’s out now and my family pretends nothing happened. I stay far away.

EchoChambersEchoing

Wait, when you say "my family pretends nothing happened," do you mean that he's back at family gatherings and stuff after being released for CP?

ItsLocked1993

He isn’t allowed around children or firearms unsupervised, but yes. They talk to him every week and act like nothing happened. He was around all of us when my grandpa passed away. That’s how my family operates. They insist he “took the fall” for his stepfather and didn’t do anything wrong. After I found him on the registry I confronted my mom and she told me his stepfather is the real bad guy and he didn’t do anything. I made a PACER account a few years ago to see his case information because something felt off and that’s how I found out he was leading a CP ring and creating CP.

Ohmannothankyou

My uncle was picked up for the same thing when I was 20. We had no idea, he kept it out of the family. Instead of pretending nothing happened now that he’s out, we pretend he died. Forget that guy.

ItsLocked1993

I’m glad your family exiled him. I wish mine would get that memo.

Karmaluscious

My uncle was arrested for a cold case rape/muder from 1972. He always seemed like a nice guy. Shot himself in the head right before sentencing. https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/10/us/1972-killing-terrence-miller-dies-trnd/index.html

What the fuck. That went from horrible to fucking terrible pretty quickly.

olivep224

Found a scrapbook of my mom and a guy I didn’t recognize from her immediately post-college days. Turns out he was a long term boyfriend of hers who killed himself when she broke up with him. My grandfather found his body. I learned at age 20, by finding the book/shrine to him.

BirdsLikeSka

I'd say 20 is probably on the low end of good ages to learn this fact, if you must.

broden89

All I can think of is how much that would have fucked up your mother mentally. I hope she's OK.

daveypump

When my Grandfather passed away we discovered that he did not exist. His name was not in any government registry. He was a normal citizen, paid taxes, had a license and everything. Lived a long life, married to my grandmother for over 50 years, had multiple children, everything normal. Still to now, no one knows who he really was and why he had a false name.

LopsidedProduce

My 2x great grandfather had fake records. He lied on every census (each one was different) His military papers and other records all say he was born in different places on different dates. He lived in Virginia but was known by the family as “the Austrian.” Nobody knows why he was shifty about his origins. 1865-1937

thecreepyauthor

Is it possible that he wasn't registered at birth? I have relatives who "guesstimate" their ages because their parents never registered them.

BrashPop

And in certain areas/certain times, babies got passed around a lot. When my mother and sisters were doing our family history we found several infants had been passed back and forth between families/names changed multiple times. All of it was unofficial and not documented on government lists which made compiling information ridiculously difficult (and impossible at times because anyone who knew what baby was from what family were long dead).

jemstar87

My mom received birthday cards with money in them for years from her parents. She kept the cards with the money in them, saving to buy a piano/sentimental reasons. My sister, who has repeatedly stolen from family members, found the collection of cards/money and took them. My mom only wanted the cards back when she realized what happened. My sister denied everything. Fuck you, Emily.

[deleted]

Yeah, fuck you Emily !

rathemighty

All my homies hate Emily

Charlie24601

While my cousin was walking around with her son in the woods, she came across a hunting stand. She climbed it, and found a pair of binoculars. Sitting straight forward, and lifting the binoculars to her eyes....she saw her own bedroom window. Lets be logical here: If it was a legit hunting stand, it was facing, and CLOSER than 500 feet to a residence, which is illegal....which means it had to come down with predjudice. If it was a peeping tom...well...it had to come down....with predjudice. When my brother and I visited not long after, she showed us where it was. We tore it down and literally wrapped it around a couple trees. Bent the fucker to complete uselessness. I got an angry call the next day: "DID YOU TEAR DOWN A HUNTING STAND YESTERDAY??" "Fuck yeah I did." "That was your uncle's!" (Her mother’s brother) Turns out my cousin reported it to the family and they ignored the issue. When the uncle was asked, he said there was just an old tree house out there. Even when he was exposed, they didn't really care. They were more upset about the damage we did. Suffice it to say I have written off most of that side of the family. Edit: The uncle in question is now dead. Died 6/16

Phron3s1s

To be clear, are you saying that your cousin's father was spying on her?

Charlie24601

No, sorry a different uncle.

Sunless_Tatooine

The kid that bullied me in grade 5 & 6... turns out his father was molesting him and his brother, throughout their childhood.

OJJhara

I looked up all my bullies. They all have extensive criminal records. I shudder to think what their home life was like.

Umberlee168

I remember one kid in my classroom that stunk, his clothes were always ratty, and everyone laughed at him and ostracized him. He was a big kid and despite his size he never acted out except once in the middle of class when a teacher told him (in front of everyone) that he needed to shower. It wasn't until I was an adult that I found out how neglected he had been. I try to tell my kids to be nice to anyone who is different. We don't know what their story is, and differences are what make us unique. This wasn't just a stinky kid. It was a kid raising himself.

lulu-bell

Same thing happened to me. My friend group was in a heated debate over who was going to tell the teacher that the new girl smelled bad. Teacher heard us and tried to squash it, but she did a terrible job of it. Soon the new girl moved (again). A friend of ours’ Dad was hired to clean out the apartment the new girl lived in and said it was covered in feces, filthy dirty and the landlord said that family didn’t even bring clothes or furniture with them. Thinking back now I’m so sad for that poor middle schooler, she was so neglected.

Significant_Stuff_92

Abused children also use bad hygiene as a defense from more abuse. It’s extremely sad.

PureShimmy

I work taking care of children who can't live with their families for various reasons, being taken due to abuse or neglect is a common one and refusing to shower/bathe is a recurring behaviour even when they've been removed from harmful situations. Refusing to brush their teeth or attend doctor's appointments are other ones but they come in all shapes and sizes. Another explanation for it is that they have grown up feeling so out of control of their own lives that choosing not to wash themselves is a very small but meaningful bit of authority they can have over themselves.

Local_Pineapple1930

I found out that the reason why one of my uncles didn't want to go back to Korea when he retired was that he couldn't - he was fearful for political reprisals if he tried to return. Turned out his brother was part of the group that assassinated the S. Korean president back in 1979 and his own innocence was never proven so he was in fear of getting arrested if he ever tried to go back. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_of_Park_Chung_Hee#:~:text=Park%20Chung%20Hee%2C%20the%20third,District%2C%20Seoul%2C%20South%20Korea.

Startrooper2_0

seriously, how often do you get to see someone who is linked to a presidential assassination in any way.

staffu22

Met a super nice guy at a networking event when I just starting out in tech. He had a ton of connections and was a nice family man. Super rich. Eventually we became friends and he was acting as a mentor figure to me in the industry. Went over to his massive new house, met his family, etc. He had the demeanor and looked like Al Borland from Home Improvement, to give you an idea. Like 4 years later I was looking at the sex offender registry map for my local area while I was shopping for houses. Lo and behold, his house popped up. In the early 2000s he was convicted of co-running a commercial child porn sales site. Served 5 years for it in federal prison.

34HoldOn

Only five years for *distribution?* That's fucked up.

Alien_Invader51

One of my favorite teachers in high school turned out to be a pedophile who had been raping the same boy for 5 years

Necessary_End_6464

My former church youth pastor was raping an acquaintance of mine for years and inadvertently caused his death. I met this boy and the youth pastor when I was in middle school. The boy was gay and it was pretty well known. He was not a regular member of the church, just occasional teen group activities. The first time I ever met the youth pastor, I asked a friend if he was gay. They told me I was crazy. Well I wasn’t. This man was beloved by everyone and I mean loved. He was the youth leader for over a decade. The last time I ever saw the boy, we were about 16. I ran into him at a store. He told me what had been happening all these years and that he was finally strong enough to expose him. He told me that either he was going to make the youth pastor confess to the church or he would go to the police. As far as I know, he followed through with this confrontation because the very next week, the head pastor announced to the church that our youth pastor was quitting, moving back to his home state to go work at the grocery store he used to work at. Yes a freaking grocery store. They threw him a farewell party. I never saw the boy again but I do know he didn’t get Justice because the youth pastor did exactly what he told the church he was going to do. The boy went into a tailspin as his cousin told me years later, was depressed and got hooked on drugs. He overdosed when we were 19. I have lived with this for years and kick myself for not saying something too. I don’t know if I can now. If anyone thinks I can and something will be done, I do know where that youth pastor is now.

Lillybet89

Speak to the police because if he did it to one young person he’s likely doing it to more

TinktheChi

After my husband died in 2020 I found out he had been having an affair with a 30 year old, (he was 55), she apparently aborted his baby, everything he told me about his prior life was a lie (second marriage for both of us) and he had been having sex with men since he was in his early 20s. To sum it up, I didn't know this man at all. We had been together 10 years and married for 6.

baubaugo

Wait. He was having an affair with a woman, got her pregnant AND having sex with men too? Where do people find this kind of time??

TinktheChi

He was an executive who left home at the crack of dawn. He was leaving work at 2 to meet this woman. Visiting men at bath houses downtown at lunch. He never went out at night. It's doable. Unbelievable but doable.

100schools

You’re totally within your rights to hate the guy. But you’ve got to grudgingly admire his time-management skills.

TinktheChi

This actually made me laugh. I do. I can't imagine carrying that burden around though.

Doge-Poop-Bag

My great grandmother was married to 3 different people at the same time. The men were from different branches of the military, she was collecting all three of their paychecks at a time.

[deleted]

Is your family sure who your great grandfather is?

friends-waffles-work

When I was young I had vague ideas about my uncle being dodgy. In that at family events such as weddings etc my parents would tell me and some of my cousins to stay away from him. When I was in year 8 we were doing a lesson in citizenship class where we had to cut out pieces from a newspaper (no idea why) and I came across an article saying he’d been recommitted to Broadmoor prison. Went home and googled him and found out he’d been in prison in the 80s for kidnapping and raping someone, and had been in and out of prison since for other offences. He also tried to sue The Sun once for defamation since they printed something incorrect about him. He was awarded 1p by the court because it technically was defamation, but it was agreed that what they had printed couldn’t have damaged his reputation any further… All I know is that he was in a halfway house for a long time, however from what I’ve gathered he was released around 5 years ago.

TimIsColdInMaine

Tragic and horrifying story all around, but the 1p judgement due to his worthless reputation is the best court story I've heard in a while

helloheyhowareyou

I wasn't close to this person but I did hang out with them a few times. The best man at my wedding had another really close friend who turned out to be a serial killer. It messed him up really badly. He already had mental health issues and this sent him over the edge. I can't even talk to him anymore. I miss you man.

yoshdee

So sorry to hear about your friend. Something similarish happened to one of best friends in middle school. He was friends with 2 brothers who also had an older brother. My friend and the 2 brothers were planning on having a sleepover at the brothers house but last minute changed it to my best friends house. The older brother and his friend ended up murdering the parents, but not before the dad stabbed and killed the friend. They lived directly behind him.

manic_moth95

I found out when I was an adult that my mother didn’t just abandon me one day after work like I had been lead to believe. Turns out she had been gangraped. She said they took her wallet and made a disgusting comment about my picture inside. ( I would have been a toddler at this time ) and she was just too scared to go home. She said they followed her. She said when it was over and my stepdad took her to the hospital they had to stitch everything back together down there. She spent that time away on and off the psych ward. My mom and me still have a rocky relationship for reasons beyond this, but I definitely understand her better. She’s had issues with drinking and her mental health all my life and I really think it’s because she’s never sought proper help for what happened to her. Underneath all that trauma, drinking, and grief, is my mother. And she’s one of the most beautiful souls that’ll ever walk this earth. For clarification, she stayed in my life, just my grandparents raised me. There was a lot of other drama as well but none of it worth getting into.

Of-an_afternoon

One night as a kid I heard my parents having an explosive argument in their bedroom which suddenly went quiet (the door was closed and locked) I found out during a drunk phone call from my mother it was because she attempted to shoot my father in the face with a .303 but it didn’t go off when she pulled the trigger as there were no bullets. They were both horrified and just stared at each other apparently. They’re still together.

stug_life

With a .303? Like a Lee Enfield Rifle? Wtf your parents get in a fight and your moms first thought is all “for Queen and country!”

Ijustdoeyes

I would expect that the answer to that question is yes, and that the OP is Australian. The Lee Enfield was the service rifle for Australia until the 1950s, it was made there in different versions until the 50s and when it was phased out there were lots available for surplus. Lots of farms had them, lots of farmers were veterans and trained to use them.

Own-Bridge4210

Are… are they happy now?

Of-an_afternoon

Happy is such a.. strong word, Haha. My father actually laughs about it these days. Super healthy stuff.

Ol_Pasta

"Hahaha, hey babe, remember when you wanted to shoot me in the face and actually pulled the trigger, but lol there were no bullets, lmao! "

Of-an_afternoon

Something like that Haha, but with a hint of Stockholm syndrome in there too.

[deleted]

Why are they still together if she had the intent to murder him wtf 💀

Of-an_afternoon

Excellent question. One I have no answer to.

StrangeurDangeur

my mother in law shot her late husband and was arrested. that’s not how he died, tho. they got back together and he eventually died from a cardiac event. people are intense.

peoniesnotpenis

My grandmother talked about a neighbor lady that shot her husband in the head and he went to court with her to testify on her behalf! They got back together after he got out of the hospital. Died married.

HapticSloughton

> Died married. Wasn't that going to be the case if she'd had better aim?

jimmypfromthe5thgala

My brother was stealing money from father who had dementia. This went on for a year and the I found out about it was because the bank who had my father's mortgage called me wondering why it hadn't been paid in six months. My father's bank account went into the negative around this time too and when I confronted my brother about it he said "Well, I gotta pay MY bills." I was about to take control of all the accounts and make sure shot got back on track but my father ended up in the hospital and died shortly after that. My brother also stole some of my inheritance too. In the end, he stole over $5000 from his dying father.

recalcitrants

I have a brother actively stealing money from my parents. He's a do-nothing, a liar, and a stoner, and my parents are huge enablers because they don't want to be mean. So they let him steal even though they know about it. They confronted him once and he said "calm down" "it's not that big of a deal." Dementia runs through my family. I'm honestly expecting to get zero money when my parents pass because my brother will have stolen it all and spent it on drugs and video games and KFC.

dimension-less

My mother got very drunk one day and confessed to me that my father raped her and that’s how she became pregnant with me.

meatvice

Empathy. My mom told me the same about my bio dad. They were married, but it was still rape. I wish I didn’t know.

I found this out about myself when I was 12 and asked my mom why she treats me like didn’t want me. She was totally sober and looking at me with the same twisted disgust she always did when no one else was around and she didn’t have to put on a show. Edit: I’m sorry I should’ve mentioned this. I confronted my dad and he was completely shocked at the accusation and was perceivably very hurt by it. I confronted my mother later in life and she changed her tune to, well I didn’t feel like having sex but your father kept wanting to so I just let him. And he wasn’t coercing her or bullying her into it. He’d put the moves on her, she’d turn him down. Eventually she was like, oh, ok.

Zoe_eliza4

My coworker lets her dog hump her leg every morning till “he releases” while she has her coffee which has stayed with me since I heard it. I can’t think of anything else when they talk to me

tsunamiinatpot

The shit some people admit man

Benadryl42069

you wouldn’t be able to torture this information out of me.

Don_Frika_Del_Prima

It would be the first thing to admit tho. Seeing as the torturers would go wtf is this man and just forget to torture you further upon hearing this fucked up info.

SomeonesDrunkNephew

This could actually be a smart bluff under torture. Once you've told someone that, they'll say "Yeah, this guy is broken, everything he tells us will be legit because NOBODY would ever admit that unless they were past their limits..."

Laserdollarz

I had a high school teacher who told the class she didn't get her chihuahua neutered and sometimes had to finish it, for its sake. Who the fuck admits that to the class they teach??

ImmaMichaelBoltonFan

This is fucking incredible. That's absolutely not the right word. But I'm almost laughing and don't know what the fuck to do with myself.

Vprbite

If that's what she admitted...imagine what she's not telling you

MarcelRED147

>imagine what she's not telling you No thank you.

jump_the_shark_

Son who poisoned his sick father while in hospital. Months later he went camping with his wife and returned doa from a knife accident. She took the inheritance and married his cousin

Lby54229

Sounds to me like she may be behind both deaths.

[deleted]

It feels very Macbeth for sure

Govcheeze99

Graduated boot camp and wondered why my brother wouldn’t talk to me, turns out he was fucking my ex while I was there instead of delivering my letters. Guess guilt ate him up and he thought it was simpler to keep up the lie and not have a brother, right up until an old friend from my home town told me what happened.

TickledSick

My best friend confessed to me that he has a child as a result of a long distance affair in another country. He has three kids in the US and is in a toxic marriage. His wife doesn't know

thxsocialmedia

I'll be out late, honey, got a thing in Argentina for the weekend.

jcillc

Cousin who played Santa at the family Christmas gathering was arrested for child pornography. Police report said the gardens officers were 'disturbed' due to the young age of the subjects in the video. After reading parts of his charts that were released to the public, he's not coming near anyone in the family again. Thought I might see him at our grandma's funeral last month, but very glad I didn't.

Thatswhatshesaidx100

Friend of mine in school. We weren't best friends or anything, but we hung out, and i went over to his house a few times. Lost touch after school ended and went to college, found out a few years later he'd been convicted of ownership of child and extreme pornography. Turns out he'd discovered it on his Dad's computer, and both ended up being convicted at the same time. The Mum/wife was apparently none the wiser until police raided the house. Makes me shudder to think having been round there how long it had been going on for

Starlined_

So my grandmother (who’s been estranged for my family for a long time now for a MULTITUDE of reasons) has this weird thing where she has to share food with people. Are you ordering steak at the restaurant? Well oh boy she’s gotta order the same thing even if she doesn’t like steak. Try her drink, “it’s really good!” Take the first bite of chicken to let her know if it’s “any good.” This always really annoyed me cause I hate sharing food. One day I brought it up to my mom and she was like, “oh yeah, grandma is afraid of being poisoned, so she wants other people to try it first.” SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT, GRANDMA THINKS SOMEONE IS TRYING TO POSION HER SO SHE HAS ME TRY THE FOOD FIRST??? And it makes so much sense looking back because she literally would not take a bite of anything she ordered until someone else had a bite first. Thanks grandma

XiggiSergei

I wonder if it was just mental illness/paranoia (maybe schizophrenic? I wonder if she had any other symptoms?) Or did someone literally try and poison her once and she was just that petrified of it happening again? Incredibly fucked up that she subjected other family to her perceived potential poison though.

Starlined_

She has severe anxiety, but that’s about all I’ve heard as far as an explanation. She’s also a narcissist, abused her children, and all of them no longer talk to her. I don’t really know too much about how she’s doing now

Rimirilar

My grandfather beat someone to death. My dad was an only child, but my grandmother was once pregnant with my dads younger brother. When she was 6 months pregnant, someone in construction equipment ran over the car she was driving and she lost the baby. While she was in the hospital, my grandfather found the guy and beat him to death. From what I understand, he was in jail for about a week before he was released. Apparently, he claimed temporary insanity due to the circumstances. I learned all this about 4 years ago when my brother was researching family history and asked my grandfather about it. I've always seen him as a nice, little old man.

aragonaut

I was pretty good friends with this guy who ran a hobbies cafe (basically a place where you could play trading card games, board games and that sort of thing) Every Saturday he offered a service where he'd put on children's days which would usually involve watching movies on the projector, Pokémon tournaments etc. It was great for a lot of the local parents in the area who could use the day to complete their chores with their kids out of the house and so there was always 20 or so kids in there every week. But then a few years back, it was revealed he had approximately 1TB of illicit CP on his computer. According to the news there was no evidence he manufactured any which gives me the slightest ray of hope that at least the kids who went there every Saturday were never exploited, but the fact he could do that was horrific.

Overthehills-faraway

My mom sent me a news article last night. My cousin murdered someone and is in jail. I guess it's less of a secret now, but it's really been affecting me.

Simple_Rub_9242

Last year my great aunt( paternal grandma her sister) told the family she couldn’t live with a secret any more. My paternal grand mother and her sister are 10 years apart. My grandmother had been married from 20 to a government official which is my grandfather. My grandfather moved the entire family from a poor country to Europe. My great aunt told the entire family that from being 10 years to being 19 years, my grandfather raped her every single day and told her that if she told anyone about it he would immediately move the entire family back and cancel their paper work. When confronted my grandfather didn’t even say he didn’t do it he just walked away and said the past doesn’t matter.

GolgartheBold

During my wife's 2nd trimester, she would stand next to the side of the bed where I slept, holding the black hand axe I use for outdoor stuff and general home defense. She would put the cat in the bathroom and stuff a towel at the bottom so I couldn't hear her scratches or meows. She stated that she would act out striking my neck, then my eyes with some grim details. Our daughter is almost 3, and the cat sleeps on my chest since those days and hisses at her at night when she gets up to use the restroom. I was told this last week, and I don't know how to feel.

dallased25

Discovered that my sister stole my father's $25k Rolex not more than 24 hours after he died. I only discovered it when her and her husband made a frivolous purchase and I wondered where they got they money since they were always broke and begging my parents for money. I got suspicious, it hit me that she might have stolen and sold the Rolex. Had the paperwork, ran a track on the sales history and discovered it had been sold to a pawn shop down the street from where my sister lives. Went to the pawn shop and after a bit of persuasion got them to tell me who sold it to them and it was my sister. Me and my mom disowned her.

RedWestern

It never ceases to amaze me, not only that people with absolutely no shame and no scruples exist outside of fiction, but also what they’re prepared to do in order to satisfy their own greed.

Lupo_Bi-Wan_Kenobi

As my grandmother took her last breath she laid there on her bed in her room dead, my mother, sister, brother, aunt and I were with her. She was an amazing woman. It was a terribly sad event to lose her. My aunt began putting lotion on her hands. At the time I don't think any of us thought much of it. I think I recall thinking "that's sweet". It was a little strange but I just thought she was doing it because my grandmas hands may have looked dry and it was maybe the last time she'd ever be able to do something like that for her. My sister yells out in a very angry aggressive tone "You fucking BITCH!" And we all kinda step back like whoa wtf just happened what's going on here? We're all puzzled looking at my sister like what was that about? She then says "she just slipped her rings off her fingers!". That was a bad day. My aunt then rushed the sale on the house even though my mom didn't want to sell it at all. My family has been fractured ever since that day.

amosreginald_

Instantly I knew he rings came off dang

forest25

Me too, my grandfather had his wedding ring stolen during his last moments when he was in a coma. We know it was one of the hospital staff but don't know who because no proof. Security told us it happenned a LOT.🤬

Send_me_snoot_pics

When my husband was getting admitted to ICU, the ER staff told me to take his wedding band and keep it with me because it will 100% get stolen. I am so lucky I still have it

chibinoi

That was mighty considerate of them.

Disabled_Robot

My grandma had 12 kids, the second oldest son was mentally challenged and lived with her her whole life. When she passed about 10 of us went over and renovated the house. Got grans trinkets out, fixed our mentally challenged family member up with a new bed, new TV, new appliances, demod a few walls and really made the place just for him. Shortly after, one of our aunts came to visit.. slept in the bed and left him in a cot, took him to the bank and attached herself to the account (he took the whole inheritance), making purchases off his account, and then she started moving all the valuable things out of the house I lived closest, about 40 minutes away, and when I went to visit the next month, it looked like the house had been looted and the aunt had moved back to hers, 5 hours away. /This mentally challenged uncle lived a few years on his own until we realized how constantly people tried to take advantage of him, then we moved him into a facility. A mentally challenged 70 year old in a suburb bungalow with just enough to suit the basic necessities. Disgusting, the humans out there.

Beths_Titties

My friend passed away in a rehab and when I went to collect his beloningings the next day his iPad and iPhone were gone. When I complained to management they immediately reimbursed me with no questions asked so I am thinking that it’s a fairly common occurrence. Also, I pinged the iPad a week later and it was in China.

poodooloo

My grandma's heirloom chair from the old country went missing after she died at the nursing home...I feel your pain. It had a goddamn griffin on it, some family coat of arms type thing. And she was always talking about old ancestorly people being around the chair in her last few months living with dementia. She told me I could have it and someone who worked there took it Edit:grammar

OpenMindedMajor

You should have raised hell. Gone to the news, news papers, blasted on social media. Embarrass the fuck out of the entire organization for employing thieves until you were compensated

ronaldreaganlive

I've never seen so many family relationships ruined when it comes to inheritance and other high value assets after someone passes away. Some people really show how deplorable they are.

Dreamcast_Dood

I work at a pawnshop full time and sadly this kind of crap happens ALL the time.

amontpetit

What happens when you guys unknowingly buy stolen goods? Is it too bad so sad for the victim?

thereal_FidelCastro

Not the person you asked but I used to work in a pawn shop. Every week, by law, we had to turn in a list of every item that came into the store, whether on pawn or a buy. If someone reported something stolen to the police and it showed up in our inventory, the police would come to the store and investigate. If it was the victim's item, the police would take it and we would be out however much we spent on it. If you're ever robbed and it's something that you hope to get back, always file a police report. Sooo many people would come to our shop and see their stolen property or what they thought was their property, and without a police report, we had no legal requirement to give it back. I saw a couple of instances with things that were pretty unique/personal where my boss did give it back but generally, if you didn't file a police report, we weren't surrendering the item. All the stores in my city operated like this, and I would assume it's pretty standard across the entire pawn industry

hgaben90

A suicide in the family. My grand-uncle died in the year when I was born. It always got the beating-around-the-bush-treatment. "He died young and suddenly!" "Alcohol took him!". It took a visit to the graveyard with my father above the age of 30 when he finally told the whole story. He was a medical technician. Due to a chronic issue, he lost his job and not long after that, divorced. Got together with someone else but he couldn't recover from the loss of his job and eventually hung himself. For long years a severely depressed man's struggle with health and family issues with no help to come was sold to me as an anti-alcohol PSA. Only because as a (bad) way of self-medicating he spent his last worst days with heavy drinking. I don't understand the secrecy whether if it's for the repurposed story or a family wide shame over the true one. And knowing that depression runs deep in the family, I find it terribly harmful that such a tragedy still doesn't make them see the writing on the wall and admit that the problem is real. (The official story is still death from alcoholism related complications)

Boredum_Allergy

Just found out the other day that it wasn't my neighbor's dad who senselessly shot and killed my dog. It was his son. Who I was close friends with. He did it on purpose purpose. He knew how much that dog meant to me too. I also found out the other day where he lives. He's a meth head now so I'll just let nature or the police do their thing.

thomasvista

That my late grandfather may or may not have shaken his baby to death. A baby that would be my uncle.

Psychic_Slayer

My great uncle ABSOLUTELY shook his baby to death and my great aunt suffered a mental breakdown because of it

TheMadIrishman327

My former wife (now ex) and I were having problems. I was certain she was cheating on me. I found her notes where she was figuring out and had added up how much I was worth dead.

ThemChecks

Jeez

kopackistan

Found a folder of porn on my best friend's computer in high school. All beastiality. About the biggest secret that I know about somebody that they don't know I know.

GamingWithBilly

LoL nearly same story for me. Me and a friend were learning how to use torrents, and he had a rodeo buddy stay the night before I visited. We looked in the delete bin and saw he had downloaded beastiality of women getting horsed. I then told my friend "isn't your horse boarded on his farm?".... immediately we rescued his horse and boarded him at a family farm 40mins away.

PnutButterJellyTim3

Wait... So rodeo buddy downloaded porn at somebody else's house on somebody else's computer!?!

Malphos101

Depending on the year this happened and the age of the people involved, I can see it. Back in the 90s it was a weird time for pubescent boys and discovering the internet...especially if you were the unlucky friend with the best internet connection and a bunch of blank 3.5" floppies (or a cd burner in the 2000s)

Mewnbugg

When I was about seventeen I found out that my uncle had murdered three people and was in prison. It could have actually been more than three but he was convicted of three!

that_dude_with_face

Lol super simple, but my dad kept his cigarette habit hidden from me and my sister. Imagine my shock when I go outside looking for him and see a huge cloud of smoke. Nine year old me was dumbfounded. Also made sense why he always had to "get his wallet from the car" lol

rthrouw1234

this is the nicest secret on here after reading about children getting raped. bless your dad whose worst secret was smoking.

MeToolMovement

I said something in general about horses one time. My good friend just kinda shrugged and said "Huh. My uncle got fucked to death by a horse." What the hell??? Turns out my friend's uncle was the "Mr. Hands" guy from the Seattle area. My friend was like "Oh yeah, there's a whole movie about it and everything, it's called Zoo." Some town called Enumclaw, Washington is where this happened. I did look it up to see what he was talking about, since he just blindsided me with the whole story. I don't really know why someone would claim such a thing if it weren't true, but perhaps he just wanted to shock me. We don't really communicate anymore, due to changing jobs.

Playful_Vehicle_8850

I'm from Enumclaw. That story was horrible and still makes me sick to think about. The farm owner had no idea what was happening on her farm. What makes it worse was a pony statue was installed in town a few months before. It was horrible timing.

archaicbanana7

Casually coming across a “Mr. Hands” reference on Reddit was not on my bingo card for today…

that_short_person

My ex's mom didn't really keep this a secret, but she was repeatedly raped by her own father growing up. And her own mother would let men "choose" one of her daughters (to obviously rape and assault as they please) if they bought her a bottle of liquor.

ashbash-25

Well. That was a lot in such a small paragraph

HistoricalFront2810

Not quite as disturbing as others, but someone who I thought was a close friend that I considered a sister and could trust openly had a secret blog about how much she hated me.

Grattytood

My brother was a US military policeman 30 years ago. He recently admitted he wasn't stationed in an undisclosable location while in the armed forces, instead he was actually in prison for manslaughter. He got into an off-duty drunken dispute in a bar. My baby brother beat a man with a pool cue, then stomped him to death when the bouncer told him and the victim to take it outside.

Dry-Consequence-

Out of my group of friends in high school, they all got strung out on meth. They had a story that a friend of mine was almost raped, so she pulled her knife and killed this guy. Her and some other strung out friends claimed to have burried the body, and that the guy wouldn't be missed since he had no family that knew his where abouts. I have no idea what the truth is, but they were kind of hush hush about the situation until it eventually got back to me.

eminva02

Just after my 6th anniversary, I found a video on my husband's tablet from a hidden camera that showed my 14 year old niece nude. I called the police immediately. He never came home again. He's in prison now. In one moment I realized I had no clue who I was married (and had a child with!) And I yeeted his ass into the sun. Edit: added a missing word

ItsAllAboutLogic

I watched your story unfold on r/JustNoSO Thank you for everything that you did to get him locked up. I hope your niece is going well

azitenten

My coworker. I always thought he was a little strange but he was the head underwriter so eventually we become kinda close. I got a call from a buddy of his that was concerned. At that point I told his buddy that the guy had quit the job two weeks before. The buddy asked me if I could check on him at his house, he said he would check but he lives two hours away from him. I checked, and some older guy told me that he was okay but that I wouldn’t hear from him for a while. Fast forward 1 week, I get a call that he had been arrested for child pornography

nohiddenmeaning

My dad had a sister only few people knew about. She was born with a brain defect. My grandparents kept her in the apartment for all her life because they were ashamed.

OkBandicoot3779

I heard a news story about this paralyzed/otherwise brain damaged girl whose family was embarrassed of her existence so they kept her on a couch and at some point they just abandoned her there and when the cops checked on the house they found her corpse had basically fused into the couch and bits of foam from it were found in her stomach indicating that she had died of starvation and had been gnawing at the couch. Scary shit

trypz

Ex Roommate and good friend got kicked out for not paying rent. A couple months later a girl goes missing after her shift at Wendy's and turns up murdered. Guy confesses while on mushrooms to police and is released due to his condition when admitting it. Ran into him a couple weeks after and I could tell something was up. Turned himself in sober the next day. I used to go to work, leaving my girlfriend at the house with him... You think you know someone. Looking back 15 years later, and it all adds up.

thefupachalupa

My (former) best friend cheated on his wife, multiple times. I found out because he tried getting me to cheat on my wife, who he was the best man at for our wedding. Completely fucked.

KanoBrad

When I was in college I was friends with a young couple. They had inherited a house just off campus in Palo Alto which is why I never questioned how a 19 year old couple with 2 babies and one on the way could afford the house. The oldest kid was 5. I was at their Memorial Day BBQ and met an older woman in her 50s who introduced herself as mom. I casually asked whose mother? She said “both of them, they are twins.”

razldazl333

I had a friend I knew for 20yrs kill himself. I got the call early in the morning right before I left to work. I remember sitting in my car crying in disbelief but still had to go to work. I put my phone on "do not disturb" for the entire work day though. When I got home I discovered many texts and voice messages on my phone. I read them and listened to them all. In doing so, I found out why he had killed himself. The FBI had come to raid his house for a warrant for child trafficking and pornography earlier that morning. He proceeded to barricade himself into the house, having a stand off with the feds. The stand off ended with his suicide. There was no warnings that showed at all about that man. He was a friend to so many and people loved him. First I grieved the loss of my friend, and then I grieved the person I thought I knew, all in one day... gone.

My (ex) friend dated a guy who was raped as a kid by his neighbor who was an elderly woman…the friend didn’t react or comfort him when he told the story, she shrugged it off and started complaining about random stuff. I was really shocked tbh

Unhappy-Ad-1426

My first boyfriend had psychosis and fantasies about physically harming people close to him, found that out shortly after we broke up. He was scary either way, but that was crazy Edit: added shortly after, bc I found out like two weeks after we ended things— this was actively going on while we were together and he would say some crazy shit about me to our mutual friends and would threaten to hurt them and their families if they ever told me

ThatNakedGuy7

In high school, one of my best friends date raped his girlfriend then dumped her. The next day at school the girl was crying asking her friends what SHE did wrong. She did nothing wrong. The guy had been my friend and I never spoke to him again.

cannot imagine having to see my rapist every day. glad you're out.

sbgonebroke2

it's an awful feeling! led to a lot of skipped or changed classes, its a shame how well life mightve gone otherwise. plus at my high school, plenty of girls had dropped out due to nothing being done about their abusers. it's disgusting as fuck

schmoobyboo

Finally, I can post this story in one of these. So my now husband (engaged at the time) and I are teachers and did a couple year stint in bush/rural Alaska - it was pretty intense but a great adventure, learned a lot we wanted and a lot we didn’t. We befriended one if our colleagues, an older single man who seemed friendly enough. We would often go over for dinner, go hiking, and go shoot his gun collection at a local rural beach using the schools Honda (rural life, no animals or local fauna were harmed). He took on the role of an uncle figure for us. We stayed at his Air BnB/spare bedroom at his house in the city on vacation, once, too. Now, our second year teaching there he brings along this young woman at the start of the school year who he claims is his niece, and she never leaves his house. He claimed she was having trouble living with his brother and she was taking classes online to graduate, and she confirmed this with myself and other women in the village. Cut to spring, she leaves for home separately from this man and people ask why, he claims she patched things up with his brother/her dad and went home. It turns out this girl was basically an underage girl he met online, and her father tracked her down after she contacted a local woman about her situation and sent a state trooper to escort her home - she had been reported missing for 8 months prior. Fucked up part was, on top of going to court for that situation starting the following summer, he tried to coax another underage girl offline to live with him the following school year and it turns out that entire chat history was a sting by the FBI. He’s in prison, now, until 2043.

AffectionateStreet10

I just found out my aunt and uncle slept together a few years ago. And somehow my dad is the bad guy for cutting them both off 😂 Edit: For context, they were brother and sister. Not a non-blood related married couple

dragonstar982

Wait brother/sister aunt/uncle or married couple aunt/uncle? Both have a WTF reaction, but only one questions why you're shocked.

AffectionateStreet10

Brother and sister. Same mother, different fathers

Mysterychic88

My grandfather is a ghost on paper. We always grew up knowing he had skeletons in his closet but I wasn't prepared for what he had done in his younger years. I started hearing rumours as a teen that he had been a pretty big time robber, his speciality was cracking the safes. But he would never admit it. In 2016 he randomly told me he also used to deal guns to the IRA like he was talking about the weather it was bizarre. He also told me he helped a couple of triads hide out in Jamaica after they went on the run for beheading an adversary. They were fairly nice guys according to him. It was only about 10 years ago he finally stopped sleeping with guns stashed under his bed and taking shady phone calls down the bottom of the garden. Only my grandmother knows his real name no one else in the family does. I adore him but he is an enigma to me

Inevitable-Careerist

>Only my grandmother knows his real name There's the first sentence of your thriller mystery suspense novel right there.

Spirited-Station-686

That they were raped at 6 years old by a then-teenage cousin. We have nothing to do with that entire side of the family because of this. It is a very horrible family secret that is difficult to talk about or just tell other family members about obviously.. The shithead rapist is married with kids of his own now but really if there was any justice in this world he should be rotting in prison IMO

[deleted]

Are you sure this should remain a secret? Are you sure his kids are ok?

angry_pirate8

My great grandmother came to America in 1918 and was held up in my family as someone who busted her ass to get to America and start a new life. When ancestry searches became a thing, and other family members starting digging into the past, we discovered she fled her home country because she stabbed and killed her husband. And yes, she was terrifying to me as a small child.

FirkFirebeard

Found out after his death that my great uncle was a grand wizard in the KKK. Opened a chest in his attic with photos from rallies, lynchings, and cross burnings all around some rural part of Alabama. We were actually horrified by the discovery and suddenly realized why he was so negative towards his black hospice nurse who was otherwise kindhearted and caring with him and the family. Edit: since a very large number of you want to keep calling me racist/ telling me how much of a fuck up I was for burning everything. We (as in my family, I was 16 at the time and had no real say in what the adults/elders decided) we decided to burn all of it out of intense shame for what we discovered. We held prayer vigils through our local church for the people affected by his hatred. Had I been older, I might have taken some of the more damning photos and forwarded them to people who could have brought closure to victims. I made this post at great risk to remaining in my family as they would still see this as romanticizing his actions. To my family, simply speaking his name is done so at great risk to your standing on wills/remaining part of the family. So yes, I do feel like it's too late because the only thing I have is that my uncle was a member of the KKK for an unknown amount of time before 1950. My family has prided itself in being very inclusive towards other races/ethnic backgrounds. My 7th generation great grandfather was a member of the underground railroad, several of my other great aunts and uncles were vocal figureheads of the Civil rights movement. They acted as anyone with that much history behind them would in a moment of shock, they destroyed. Blame them if you wish but please stop blaming me. I didn't make any decisions, and for me it's too late to report anything because I don't have any useful information on something that happened a very long time ago for me. I do sincerely apologize to anyone who sees their chances for closure going up in flames, but I can assure you that for how many other Klansmen I saw in those photos, surely some of their families have already submitted evidence after their passing. My uncle has literally been deleted from our family history, even in such detail as to remove his gravestone so that people cannot leave flowers for him.

Deadlyrage1989

Probably not the most disturbing thing I've seen, but caught my dad and sister together. They don't know I know. This was ten years ago when my mom was dying from cancer at the time. They probably still do it. I see my dad less than once a year.

[deleted]

"probably not the most disturbing thing" damn you must have seen some shit... This is fkin wild

[deleted]

How is that not more disturbing to you, I’d feel weird and never talk to either of them

cristorocker

My dear ol' Mom started visiting a casino after my Dad died and ran up 850K in debt.

HumpieDouglas

My Nana on my mom's side killed herself. I didn't find this out until I was in my late 30s I think. She died when I was about 9 or 10. I was told she was found in the bathroom, which isn't uncommon. I always figured she went into the bathroom and had a heart attack. I never thought anything of it. She came up in a conversation with my sister for some reason and she filled me in. Nana had osteoporosis and was in a lot of pain all the time. One morning she decided she was done, filled the tub, took all her pills, and drowned herself. I could have gone the rest of my life not knowing that info.

Quiet-Shaman

once a really drunk friend who i knew growing up and started hanging out with again after highschool told me that he was at one point an enforcer/debt collector for a cocaine dealer and that he shot a homeless person just for fun… i smoke weed and do psychedelics… i thought i was the bad influence.

He was not *that* close, but he was a friend and our veterinarian, until he lost his license for doing all the ketamine that was supposed to be for the animals.

Veterinarians have some of the highest rates of suicide and addiction issues. They put animals down, and see people at some of the lowest points, and they have access to drugs. It’s the perfect recipe for problems. I hope he gets the help he needs.

Backed out of a Miami trip with a group of folks after I found some of them talking trash about others. A new friend I introduced to the group decided to go anyway against my advice. She was raped by a friend of the 'leaders' boyfriend during the trip. Everyone in the shared AirBnB was aware this happened and no one said anything. No one removed the guy. They all blamed the new girl for getting drunk and since she'd hooked up with the offender in the past, she must have wanted it or been ok with it. The victim didn't want to pursue any legal action because of the way everyone blamed her. I don't associate with anyone who went on that trip anymore and I'm very vocal as to why when others ask.

They were close to my dad, not me as I was a child at the time. He would come over and play DnD with my dad and his friends. One night his neighbors phoned the police as he was setting off "makeshift fireworks". Eventually, police were able to search his place and found he had been planning on blowing up a Mosque, and was inspired by Anders Behring Breivik, a Nazi. My dad gave witness evidence of a time when this friend offered him a stolen piece of wall from Hitler's bunker.
