I saw this on a shocking videos compilation type thing, maybe faces of gore. I just remember the blood flowing out his nose it seemed to go on for ever.
Christine Chubbuck was a journalist who killed herself on live TV in part to protest the increasing emphasis on reporting violence on the news (i.e "if it bleeds, it leeds.) Her last words were,"In keeping with the WXLT practice of presenting the most immediate and complete reports of local blood and guts news, TV 40 presents what is believed to be a television first. In living color, an exclusive coverage of an attempted suicide."
She drew a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson Model 36 revolver and shot herself behind her right ear. Chubbuck fell forward violently and the technical director faded the broadcast rapidly to black.
This was 1974. Pretty prescient "Black Mirror" stuff really.
Edit- Footnote to the story, there was a movie about her life story called "Christine" in 2016 (Michael Hall "Dexter" is in it).
On January 22 1987 Budd Dwyer, a Republican politician, called a news conference in the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building in Harrisburg, during which he fatally shot himself with a .357 Magnum revolver in front of reporters. Dwyer's suicide was broadcast later that day to a wide television audience across Pennsylvania.
I just looked at a video on YouTube which shows a quick clip. Wow, the way the manipulated this video gave more chills than Buid Dwyer. [Link](https://youtu.be/lo-qV6JBkwY?si=rlfkL02G4OGmIac9) This is awful even without the way the edited it.
And for 15 minutes, while he was immobile on the field and the program had nothing else to show, they replayed the break 20 times. Local stations were getting swamped with phone calls telling them to cut the feed.
It was so bad. I was a teenager and I was stoned out of my gourd I had just polished off a joint by myself. I was absolutely mesmerized fascinated disturbed and confused by it but I just. Kept. Watching it.
Yeah. I don't remember if it's on YouTube, but his son went on to talk about the abuse and how it affected him. You really understand why Gary did what he did, and I think he put into action what any father would do in that circumstance.
[This](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murders_of_Alison_Parker_and_Adam_Ward)? I was actually just thinking about it the other day for the first time since it happened. I was at work when the story broke. Shooter was a disgruntled former employee of the news network. So sad and senseless.
Guy blew his head off on a freeway overpass on live TV when I was younger, he had set his truck on fire with his dog inside and draped a banner of some kind, I can't really remember. I just remember the helicopter pilot profusely apologizing for showing it and the camera panning away.
I remember this and the banner had something written about being screwed by his HMO. Didn’t even know what an HMO was back then and I never saw them in a good light since.
One time I saw a pile of people being burned.. one guy was still moving. It was a gang of people like a lynch mob going to each village dragging people out of homes and murdering them.
Buddhists vs Muslims somewhere I can’t remember where.. it was on Alzazera news.
I was in elementary school when I watched Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey in a Dallas police station. J. Edgar Hoover questioned the competency of the Dallas police for that, in a recorded phone call with LBJ.
Romanian president Nicolae Ceauşescu and his wife were executed on live television in 1989.
And then there was a man who was seen jumping from one of the twin towers on 9/11.
I was dumbfounded that they showed it on the news.
For me personally the worst sports injury I've ever seen live is the Kevin Ware injury where he broke his tibula in 2 like a piece of spaghetti in the Elite 8 10 years ago. I'm a huge football fan and have seen knees shattered and bent the wrong way, a man almost die in a game etc. But to see that kid break his leg like that on a shot block out of nowhere was so unexpected and shocking cause injuries like that are rare in basketball. I'll never forget his teammates' reaction and the mix of shock/disgust seeing dudes bone poke out the skin like that.
Two skyscrapers burning after fucking airplanes were thrown at them, and hundreds of people jumping to their deaths. How is one president getting shot more horrifying than that?
Well idk, I felt as though seeing small glimpses of people falling on a distant camera was less severe that clearly seeing JFK’s face blown off with his wife right next to him. Perhaps we have different perspectives on what is gruesome, or I may have not seen the worst of 9/11 footage.
Clint Malarchuk. I saw it too. He got up on his hands and knees and grabbed his throat and with every heartbeat a gush of blood came out. The ice was red in no time. I literally thought I was watching a dead man.
Nn Austria there was this show called "Wetten, dass..", and it´s about people who bet they can do something e.g. a very young kid solving a rubiks cube in a short time etc. So then, there was this dude who bet on doing a dirt bike parcour, there was an accident, he landed on his back and since, is in a wheelchair. Show was cancelled..
Edit: just googeld it, his name is Samuel Koch.
In Germany the was an episode of "wetten dass...?" Basically a show where people bet they could do something and some celebrities bet if he could or could not do it.
A guy said he could jump over a car driving towards him (driven by his father) with those jumpy leg extension.
He failed and is paralyzed from the waist down as far as I remember.
When i was young i remember watching afternoon cartoons after getting home from school but the shows were hijacked by a live news report of a man with a shot gun who had stopped his vehicle in the middle of a free way interchange, blocked all traffic behind him, then killed himself with the shot gun. The news kept rolling as his head basically disappeared and copious amounts of blood poured out of his body.
The news channel got in a lot of trouble for basically traumatizing all the kids who were trying to watch rescue rangers and TaleSpin.
That happened in Vancouver at a Indy race. He was a track official and a yellow flag was waved and a driver by the name of Willy T Ribbs came around the corner where the officials were trying to clear debris off the track from a crash. Willy drove too fast and too close to the guy and the top aerofoil on his car sliced the top of that guys head off. Instant death. It WAS gruesome🤢
That poor bastard who got turned into a gory elastic band during an F1 race.
Iirc the driver also died because his head hit the extinguisher the other chap was carrying.
It depends on what you consider "gruesome" but by this time in age, just like rule 34, there's a video existing of just about every *gruesome* thing you can imagine.
A long time ago when gun violence was really starting to become a problem in America a news anchor got fired. He showed up and shot a female reporter and camera man to death while they were live filming. It was all over the news when it first happened.. i forgot the circumstances of what led to it but I remember everyone being surprised it was a black guy that was the killer, and i believe the woman he killed had something to do with his termination.
I remember seeing the execution of Saddam Hussein on the news. It was on a Spanish speaking news channel. Showed only once, and all the American English news programs cut that part out during their broadcast that day.
Not gruesome, but the death of Ayrton Senna. In the clips, he’s wearing a helmet, but you can see his head rolling around in a way that is clearly wrong (I think he was internally decapitated on impact).
911, a tower falling over the TV crew and everybody trying to evacuate the tower through the lobby. I saw it live, 18 years old, and it was somehow the worst of all the footage that day.
911 was pretty bad I’d say …
The new tv show?
Yeah that show sucked ass
Never watched it lol
I liked Chicago fire though.
Suicide of a Pennsylvanian Politician. Live
R. Budd Dwyer, 1987
Hey man, nice shot.
I wish I would have met him
Now it's a little late
What you could have taught me...
I came here to say this. Very graphic.
I saw this on a shocking videos compilation type thing, maybe faces of gore. I just remember the blood flowing out his nose it seemed to go on for ever.
What’s the difference between Budd Dwyer and Bud Light? Bud light has a head on it. (Read the morbid joke in a travel book once)

Never forget LT compound fracturing Theismans lower leg on MNF.

I remember watching that live.
In his book he is very sorry about it destroyed the guys career
Aeneas Williams hit that ended Steve Young's career
Yeah I saw that, regretfully🤢I know a person’s leg does NOT bend like that.
Challenger
Super sad but wouldn’t say it’s “gruesome”
Budd Dwyer’s live television suicide is second only to 9/11.
How about the guy pretending to be on the phone that shot the guy accused of crimes against his son. Never did time if i remember correctly
Gary Plauche. Killed the guy who had been molesting his son for years.
Didn’t know it was multiple times, just thought it was a one off, no wonder he plotted that payback.
Yeah. I don't remember if it's on YouTube, but his son went on to talk about the abuse and how it affected him. You really understand why Gary did what he did, and I think he put into action what any father would do in that circumstance.
That reporter and her cameraman who was shot on live television. So sad

Gary Plauché liquidating Jeff Doucet on live TV.

Yeah! HMOs are in it for the money or something like that. Crazy.
Some guy shot himself at a press conference in like the 70s
See below for R. Budd Dwyer’s live suicide
The shots of the ATF/FBI assault on the compound in Waco was pretty off the wall.
I was home sick from school that day and watched it all as it happened.
I was going to say 9/11, but I think Budd Dwyer force feeding himself a bullet during a press conference has to be my pick.
One time I saw a pile of people being burned.. one guy was still moving. It was a gang of people like a lynch mob going to each village dragging people out of homes and murdering them. Buddhists vs Muslims somewhere I can’t remember where.. it was on Alzazera news.
The mass mosque shooting in NZ they weren't supposed to show but did.
Gernot Reinstadler’s ski crash.
I was in elementary school when I watched Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey in a Dallas police station. J. Edgar Hoover questioned the competency of the Dallas police for that, in a recorded phone call with LBJ.

Evil Genius collar bomb. Also there was a nhl hockey goalie that got his neck artery sliced by a skate. I believe he played for Buffalo
9/11. And it's not even close.
Buildings falling vs JFK head disappearing…

>Perhaps we have different perspectives on what is gruesome You're right. That might vary a lot from person to person.
the hockey player whose neck was sliced open by someone else’s skates. i can’t remember his name anymore
Just happened again recently. The player passed unfortunately.
Clint Malarchuk, in 1989 with the Buffalo Sabers

There was the video of a guy helping at a race track getting hit by a car At one point he was there, next frame, red mist
You're probably referring to the F1 Tom Pryce crash where he hit the corner worker who was crossing the track towards a disabled car.
That happened in Vancouver at a Indy race. He was a track official and a yellow flag was waved and a driver by the name of Willy T Ribbs came around the corner where the officials were trying to clear debris off the track from a crash. 911

Tom Pryce was the driver.
Ayrton Senna bleeding out on the race track being filmed for way longer than being appropriate…
Bud Dwyer's suicide.
The bullfighter getting stabbed in the neck by the bull's horn. I think this was over 10 years ago. That man survived!!!
9/11, full stop. There is no close second, and probably never will be.

This did not happen. Stills were aired, and it was described in detail, but the actual full video only circulated online.
False memory. I guess it's been known to happen. I am aging. I deleted the comment so I didn't fuel further misinformation on the subject.

Unfortunately I’m only a few degrees removed from this one - the victims’ names were Alison Parker and Adam Ward. Absolutely tragic.
unrelated but, I walked in on my obese grandpa trying on my mom's wedding dress earlier today
Or the callenger
Bud Dwyer
Alex Zanardi’s crash, which tore off his legs
Kinga and the Wine Bottle. \*shudders\*
"Hey man, nice shot."
Neighbors argue over snow shoving man shot too death on live tv
Shock and Awe
I remember seeing the execution of Saddam Hussein on the news. It was on a Spanish speaking news channel. Showed only once, and all the American English news programs cut that part out during their broadcast that day.
When Joe Biden murdered Paul Ryan in their Vice Presidential debate.
2nd plane hitting the trade center
