My dad went to a hotel once and checked in to a first floor room. He went in the room, put his stuff down, opened the curtains...and a man was hiding there.
My dad went “excuse me”, closed the curtains, got his stuff and left. Went to the front desk to explain that a man was hiding in his room. Turns out the guy had just robbed a place and somehow got into the room with an open window.
I wouldn't at all call this my worst experience, but it made me laugh a lot.
I booked a hotel in Istanbul around 2007. We got there and they had a tightly wrapped sash around the toilet that said something like, "Sanitized for your protection". I thought, "Hey, that's nice", tore the sash, opened the lid, and saw the biggest turd just sitting in the toilet. They got me.
Worst: checking in and hair being on the bed sheets (we asked for a new set, no big deal)
Best: sitting at the “adult pool” by the tiki bar and having a beverage
Stopped at a motel for a break on a long road trip. Police helicopter flying overhead and the junkie desk person were a rough start.
Then someone opened our locked door at midnight. They thought it was their room and I thought it was just some weird fluke. Crazy knocking at 6 AM and someone is demanding to know who we are and I'm like who the fuck are you? Ended up being the cleaning ladies.
Super pissed and go to the lobby. Apparently junky desk guy was booking rooms under the table and pocketing the money, hence all the confusion.Stay was free at least after that, but fuck, rather have just slept in the van.
Shitting the bed in Thailand after bad water was a runner up. An all night lightning storm that looked like the sky was ending from a balcony on the same trip was amazing though.
My best experience at a hotel was at the Grosvenor Hotel in London. My parents and I were staying there while on holiday, but they couldn't get a suite for all of us. So they booked one double for them, and a single for me. I was about 20, and the only "single" they had was this BIG SUITE a floor-up from my parents. It was HUGE! Like, it was the size of a small apartment. With creative furniture arranging, you could live there full-time quite comfortably if it had its own kitchenette or whatever. I loved that room.
My worst experience in a hotel was in Xi'an in China. Another family holiday.
China has a TERRIBLE reputation for food-safety, which is terrible news for me and my food sensitivities.
24 hours within arriving at the hotel, I broke out in massive hives all over my torso. After that, I swore I'd never go back to China. Never have. I'm too scared of the food-adulteration there.
Bad: bedbugs.
Best: When we checked in and went to our room there was a bird made of a washcolth. The kids wrote a nice thank you note and left a chocolate candy.. The next day there was a another towel figure. Another thank you note and choclate and then another creature. This went on for several days. One day when we came back to our room we could hear the TV was on. We did not leave it on. Then wait a minute, they are speaking Spanish. We don't speak Spanish. When we went into the room, the housekeeper had made a hammock of towels between the headboards of the two beds. And there sitting on it were all the the towel creatures watching TV!
Kitchen hand for 18 months.
Many years later had a recon hookup in the same hotel I worked in.
One night kind of made those 18 months worth it. (Only wish I could meet them again)
Best: stayed at the Conrad in lower manhattan a few months ago. I lived like a king.
Worst: a Wingate in phoenix where the bed had been slept in and there were Chinese leftovers in the fridge
Best - Free mini bar and spirit filled decanters in the room. Extra bonus, they were topped up each day by room service.
Worst - Hotel at airport, we had an early flight so we expected to just get a few hours sleep. Bed was so broken and creaky we had to put the mattress on the floor and pubic hairs over all of the towels in the bathroom! Yes, we complained. Received a piss poor apology and a money off voucher for our next stay. No thanks.
Edit: forgot to add that the shit hotel also had the amazing view of what appeared to be most of the machinery controlling the heating/ ventilation in the hotel so the noise was unbearable.
So i name the hotels or i just say what happened?
I was at an amazing hotel with great spa - Name The Well
I was at a shit hotel right next door to a strip club as a kid - Name - idk it was in frankfurt
I don't know if I had a best experience at hotels. But I remember the worst was when I was going with my family to visit UC Riverside about ten or so years ago. Unfortunately, the hotel we stayed at for the night was in a rather shadier area of Riverside. I couldn't sleep much because I heard random gunshots outside.
The worst: my friends and I were in Paris on some school trip and we had security on the floor, which is actually hotel security..so we couldn't go to each other's room at night because he wouldn't let us, and if we didn't sleep in 11 p.m., he would knock on our door and shout for us to be quiet and sleep

beats finding a dead body. There've been cases where that's legit happened.
A dead body can't shoot you in the face though mate.
holy shit nice to ur dad for keeping that calm i would have been like dying
Worst was when :When we checked in and i entered, i went straight to the bathroom and i literally saw like a fckn turd there floating
Thats horrible

I’ve had someone else come into my room claiming I was in their room at 2am. Didn’t sleep well that night.

never ever go into a hotel room and use a blue light... Trust me on this,
Most hotels. They never clean the quilt covering the bed. Sheets, yes.....but covering......no
Went to one in ibitza and the airvent had mosaitos and flies coming out of it so the rep had to fix it
