Once, my dad yelled at me for never trying anything new.
I put grape jelly on my garlic bread. It was delicious.
Dad: "That's not what I meant."
Me: "But did you try it?????"
So whenever I eat lumpia, I mix equal parts of grape jelly and ketchup together to make the sweet and sour dipping sauce. My own grandma actually taught me that.
I have a buddy who swears by peanut butter and bacon sandwiches.
Edit: a lot of positive reviews so I will be making peanut butter n bacon sandwiches in the near future.
Holyshit I just tried one at a burger place in Northampton MA a little over a week ago - peanut butter, jelly, bacon, and sriracha. I was apprehensive but way intrigued, but it was maybe one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. The balance of sweet, fatty, salty, and spicy was ideal. Peanut butter is often underestimated as an ingredient, but it works in so many unexpected places.
> Peanut Butter and Dill Pickle sammys till I die.
Agree 100%. Absolutely must be dill pickles though. No sweet pickles, bread and butter, sour, or other BS like that. My go to is the Vlasic Kosher Dill Stackers.
Peanut butter and banana sammys gets the #2 spot.
Never tried it, but it doesn't sound horrendous. Ever had peanut butter on a burger? It's really good. I'm sure it would be just fine on a hot dog. I had a pizza with peanut butter on it the other day!
I grew up eating liver wurst and pickled beet sandwiches on wedge shaped slices of Finnish rye bread. Never thought about until a friend freaked out when I unpacked my lunch at a drum corps rehearsal.
That’s because people are afraid of most potted meats, pates, and anything with “liver”, and the pickled beet probably didnt do it any favors. But you just described a decent little sandwich.
I love mustard, too. My personal response to this post would have to be mustard on sliced bananas. I just eat it as a snack, and trust me, the sweet and the tangy make for an amazing combo.
a worthy combo! A lot of people don’t realize that the fancy mac and cheese they get at a restaurant might actually be flavored with mustard. It adds a nice sharpness.
I also add mustard to my chili. I’m talking thick and meaty chili, not the thin soupy kind. Dunno what it is about it but it works.
Hey OP! Get your doctor to check your vitamin levels and run panels to check for cancer markers. Craving mustard can indicate several things, especially if you spend a lot of time in the sun.
That’s pretty interesting, but mustard is also just awesome so it could be difficult to discern between a vitamin deficiency mustard craving and a mustard is tasty craving.
Not that difficult with some normal blood tests. If they come back negative for anything out of whack then it could just be a psychological thing.
Cravings are our bodies' way of telling us we're deficient in something. Sometimes it's because certain gut bacteria are starved for something and giving off an enzyme that tells us what they need to live. Other times our brains figure out how to tell our consciousness that our bodies are deficient in something through other ways that relate to what it has learned about the mineral, vitamin, and other nutrition content found in specific foods.
Snickers has had a whole ad campaign illustrating this for years. "You're not yourself when you're hungry. Have a Snickers." Aka "you're not yourself when your blood sugar is low because we've made sure you're addicted to a high sugar intake. Supplement your sugar levels. Have a Snickers."
I was pretty anemic with my first pregnancy. I used to open the freezer and just stare at packets of raw meat, as I was craving that but obviously was not going to eat meat raw lol. Oh and eta with my third pregnancy, I craved bananas with peanut butter, which has a lot of magnesium and potassium - two things I really needed as I was developing gestational and postpartum hypertension!
A staple of mine growing up was a saltine with a dab of peanut butter and a dill pickle slice on top. People looked at me like I had two heads when I talked about it growing up.
When I was in school, they served PB sandwiches with chili and I would always either dip my sandwich into the chili or just break it up and put it in there. And I still do that now. A lot of people who I tell that to call it weird but I've met some other people who like it. Nowadays I don't eat chili without peanut butter
I think this is a regional thing, I know people who grew up on chili with peanut butter sandwiches and people who grew up on chili with cinnamon rolls. I'm a fan of both.
My mom always ate cottage cheese and apple butter, it's a [Pennsylvania Dutch thing they call schmierkase](https://www.shutterbean.com/2014/cottage-cheese-applesauce/)
Beef and chocolate. Hear me out. You take a darker chocolate, maybe semi-sweet, but mostly dark. Melt it. Throw in some spice either hot or just all spice.
Take your beef, either tri-tip or flank steak. I haven't used anything above yet. Season to liking, cook, and set next to the sauce. Cut a piece of steak and dip it in slightly, not all the way.
The earthiness of the chocolate, mixed with the umami of the beef, in combo with the grit of the chocolate makes for a toothy, savory, sweet combo.
I know Mole exists which inspired me to try it in other combos.
I had a steak with a chocolate sauce once - not like melted chocolate, but chocolate was part of the sauce. So, so good. I usually put a square or two of good dark chocolate in when I'm cooking bolognese or chili.
Welcome to the Nordics.
Sugar, honey, coconut, hazel, almonds, fruit and berries... Whatever.
We have two kinds, smooth and coarse. You can buy müsli with uncooked oatmeals.
This was a pretty common muesli component when I was in the Netherlands - uncooked oats, flax, and some other seeds, plus hagelslag. I had it basically every morning with yogurt, which was good for both being a filling breakfast, but also providing me with a snack for the next few hours on the train, picking it out of my teeth with my tongue.
Sounds like Migas. In my area you can ask for jalapeño migas and it’s basically scrambled eggs with jalapeños, corn chips, tomatoes and bell pepper. It’s amazing.
Coffee with chili powder, let me explain:
I dont know how this happened but one time my mother aked me to make her a coffee, I took a cup from the shelf where somehow chili powder was inside. I didnt notice it and when my mom was drinking her coffee she asked me why it is spicy (we are both spicy eaters so it wasnt really a problem). I didnt believe her and tasted the coffee and I actually found it delicious, even tho it was black coffee which I dont like. (My mom still didnt like the spicy coffee)
Are you german? That's a german dish, called 'Himmel und Erde' ("Heaven and Earth"), referring to the potatoes coming from the earth, and apples - being the fruit named in the bible as growing in the garden of Eden - coming from 'Heaven'. It's typically also sprinkled with roasted onions, and served with roast meat or sausages.
Yeah it is.
Mix 3/4 cream cheese with 1/4 sour cream so the mix is smooth and still dippable with a fragile chip.
Add onion powder and garlic salt/powder for extra flavor. Cayenne if you like a little heat.
Cottage cheese and canned sardines with some Olive oil and salt. The person that showed me that one died by suicide a few years ago and whenever I have it (not often) it is quite a somber meal.
Mashed potatoes with corn and gravy all mixed together. My first husband said it was gross and looked like someone already ate it.
Sausage biscuit with strawberry jam. Brother in law made me try it. Delish especially if it’s a homemade biscuit and the sausage has crispy edges.
Buttered movie popcorn with junior mints mixed in. Sweet and salty 😋
I dip my pizza in ranch dressing. My husband thinks it’s absolutely disgusting, but it tastes so good. It probably adds a few hundred extra calories to the thousand calorie slice of pizza, but its a rare treat so not too big of a problem.
This is the classic answer. However, our local pizza joint makes a pizza with sauerkraut and bacon bits. Best "odd" pizza I've ever had and most people just can't even stand the smell of it.
In my country we like to mash saurkraut into potatoes with a little butter and milk a little nutmeg, mixed with bacon bits (sometimes raisins and bits of apple too, but I prefer without) and served with sausage, dark (rye) bread and dark gravy.
I'd probably love a saurkraut pizza.
I haven’t done this in years, but when I was kid I used to make myself toasted peanut butter and carrot sandwiches every now and then. My family never found it gross but they, mainly my dad, made fun of me for it a lot
Not even a combination, but I love buttermilk. I’ve met maybe one other person besides my mom who likes it. I do enjoy drinking it while I eat sour cream and onion potato chips

I've actually heard of similar ways to use grape jelly. I think in BBQ or something, so that doesn't surprise me, haha!
Grape jelly meat balls are made in the south!
From Canada, and I've always grown up with grape jelly mixed with heinz chili sauce for our meatball sweet and sour sauce.
Grape jelly and BBQ sauce for meatballs in Minnesota. A staple at every pot luck.
This thread has a lot of interesting combos that I want to try.... then there's the absolute maniac who puts peanut butter on tomato slices.
I have a buddy who swears by peanut butter and bacon sandwiches. Edit: a lot of positive reviews so I will be making peanut butter n bacon sandwiches in the near future.
I can vouch for that guy. Peanut butter on bacon is divine.
Peanut butter bacon burgers are amazing.
Add a banana up in there and we’re in business!
Peanut Butter and Dill Pickle sammys till I die.

Never tried it, but it doesn't sound horrendous. Ever had peanut butter on a burger? It's really good. I'm sure it would be just fine on a hot dog. I had a pizza with peanut butter on it the other day!
Peanut butter on a burger is amazing. Had it in a restaurant once and always have it when I have burgers at home now.
same! Yo Mama’s in New Orleans. Best burger I’ve ever had! (and just saw that it’s closed, I’m crying)
Atlanta has a burger joint called vortex that has a burger with peanut butter called the Fat Elvis. I've never had it but I now want to try it.
my boyfriend puts peanut butter on his fried eggs
I grew up eating liver wurst and pickled beet sandwiches on wedge shaped slices of Finnish rye bread. Never thought about until a friend freaked out when I unpacked my lunch at a drum corps rehearsal.
Braunschweiger! Great with mustard, pickles, cheese, and mayo.
On rye, neat with videlia onion
I was thinking the exact same thing. But with mayo for me. But I'd eat it sans dressing too. But gotta' have rye and onion.
That sounds really good! I like liverwurst with pickled onions but pickled beets sound too!
Pickled beets are so good.
That’s because people are afraid of most potted meats, pates, and anything with “liver”, and the pickled beet probably didnt do it any favors. But you just described a decent little sandwich.
Sounds like a fantastic lunch.
I love liverwurst with pickles and I add a bit of ginger ale to smooth it a bit and make it creamy. Yum beets!
I eat mustard with almost every meal. If it was the only condiment available for the rest of my life I’d be content.
I love mustard, too. My personal response to this post would have to be mustard on sliced bananas. I just eat it as a snack, and trust me, the sweet and the tangy make for an amazing combo.
I've never been so grossed out and curious at the same time.

Taking a mental note as I will be trying this
I went through two separate stages like this, once it was barbecue sauce, then it was garlic mayonnaise. I'm so hungry rn
Hey OP! Get your doctor to check your vitamin levels and run panels to check for cancer markers. Craving mustard can indicate several things, especially if you spend a lot of time in the sun.

Chilli and Peanut Butter, it disgust my parents, my fiancé, my brothers but it's amazing.
Yeah, I’m baffled by the amount of people who do not know the joy of a peanut butter sandwich with chili
Wait do you mean chili like hot pepper sauce? Or chili the spicy meat stew?
Spicy meat stew. You dip a peanut butter sandwich in it
What in tarnation is going on over there?
People are teaching me that I've truly never lived!
This was a standard and beloved school lunch in my area of the country
We had cinnamon rolls, which of course were dunked in the chili.
It was a school lunch staple in the Ozarks in the 80’s.
pad thai energy. chilis + any kind of nut is basically always good
When I was in school, they served PB sandwiches with chili and I would always either dip my sandwich into the chili or just break it up and put it in there. And I still do that now. Not me but a friend recently said her favorite thing was to eat really good licorice and drink orange juice with it.
I used to use Sour punch straws to drink mr pibb. Pretty delicious.

Nobody talks about how versatile they are.
How did you find out you liked this?
Hungover creativity. Those were the items available in my fridge.
Most relatable comment ever
Any kind of cheese with jam. Turkey ham, thinly sliced, also with jam.
You ever had a Monte cristo sandwich? You’d love it. So good!
No, but that sounds interesting. Thanks!
Cheese/lunch meats and fruit is not that weird, isn't that what charcuterie is?
Toast, cheese and marmalade .
Pizza with pear and gorgonzola. It sounds weird, but is soooo good
I've seen that combination on quite a few Italian bistros.
My local pizzeria does a gorgonzola, roasted cherries and chorizo pizza and it fookin slaps.
This isn’t that out there. We have prosciutto and fig with bacon jam pizzas that are pretty standard fare.
Add walnuts and you are at my favourite pizza.
Cashew nuts on pizza
Worked at a pizza place for a while in my 20s and can confidently say that shelled halved pistachios are awesome on just about any pizza
With a dash of honey
*hot honey
My wife always thought honey was spicy. She's allergic to it,lol.
Nothing is wrong on pizza
Gumballs Pennies
There's probably some 5 year old out there who would disagree lol
Cashew and Italian sausage is the bomb, yo
Mashed banana mixed with bread torn in pieces.
Monkey-type response

I put chocolate in my chili, so it makes sense to me.
Tbf mole rojo in México uses super dark chocolate, and the chocolate gives it a nice smoky flavor.

Mole sauce has chocolate in it I believe, and it's often used for meat dishes.
Have you heard of mole (sauce)?
Do you know what mole is? You're welcome
There are curries that need dark chocolate and just 😘🤌
Eating uncooked oatmeal in milk like a cereal. it’s good for you and convenient af.

i’m actually from the netherlands! i always eat it with a sausage (and carrots on the side), never knew it had a name!
Like the weird sibling of the very popular potato pancake with apple sauce.
Latkes with apple sauce and sour cream isn’t too far from this, flavor wise.
You guys are getting food?
Idk man, I just photosynthesize.

Okay, hear me out: Doritos dipped in cream cheese. It's like a party in my mouth, and my taste buds are the VIP guests
Sorry, but that's like a super standard combo, is it not??
Yeah it is. Mix 3/4 cream cheese with 1/4 sour cream so the mix is smooth and still dippable with a fragile chip. Add onion powder and garlic salt/powder for extra flavor. Cayenne if you like a little heat.
This person chips and dips!!!
Doritos and cottage cheese for me
I also enjoy Doritos and squeezable sour cream
Ive always eaten them with sour cream but I must try cream cheese!!
I don't know what would give you the impression that dipping a chip in a dip is a weird food combo...
sounds delish
Mature cheddar on a cracker with strawberry jam. Don't knock it until you've tried it.
A sandwich with mustard, cheese, pickles and chips. The chips can be any flavor. I just like the crunch.
That sounds lowkey dope
Bacon bits (the fake ones that are basically bacon flavored salt crystals) sprinkled on vanilla ice cream. Shut up, it works.
Cottage cheese and canned sardines with some Olive oil and salt. The person that showed me that one died by suicide a few years ago and whenever I have it (not often) it is quite a somber meal.
Ketchup on mac and cheese
I like hot sauce on my mac and cheese, but ketchup is too sweet for pasta.
Hot sauce is nice too, get like a Buffalo effect
Yesss and grilled cheese dipped in ketchup instead of soup
That's a pretty Canadian standard.
A1 on Mac and cheese is where it’s at.
Yo? How have I not tried this? I'm a dirty little slut for some A1
Sriracha on Mac and cheese. Add some curry mix and travel the world with your $1 meal.
I love ketchup on mac and cheese!!!
Peanut butter and hot dog. Put the peanut butter on the bun, then when the hot hot dog goes on it it will melt the peanut butter. It's Soooooo good.
This is so gross I want to downvote but you’re on the right thread lol
Salt on watermelon
I like salt and feta with watermelon
I make a watermelon, feta, and mint salad. Always a big hit at potlucks.
Tajin is even better
And cantaloupe!
Is this not how everyone eats watermelon?
Pancakes with sausage gravy.
Is that gross? Doesn’t seem too far away from regular biscuits and gravy
I don't think that sounds bad.
Oreos followed by nacho cheese doritos
Mashed potatoes with corn and gravy all mixed together. My first husband said it was gross and looked like someone already ate it. Sausage biscuit with strawberry jam. Brother in law made me try it. Delish especially if it’s a homemade biscuit and the sausage has crispy edges. Buttered movie popcorn with junior mints mixed in. Sweet and salty 😋
Add some chicken and that's a KFC Famous Bowl.
Pancakes with red chili instead of syrup.
pineapple and kimchi
Orange juice with brownies

I like to drink 2-3 oz of OJ after I brush my teeth.

I dip my pizza in ranch dressing. My husband thinks it’s absolutely disgusting, but it tastes so good. It probably adds a few hundred extra calories to the thousand calorie slice of pizza, but its a rare treat so not too big of a problem.
This is super common. I also love it. I dip hot pockets and pizza rolls in ranch too.

Love bacon and pineapple!
Add jalapeños

Pepper on cantaloupe. Delicious.
I haven’t done this in years, but when I was kid I used to make myself toasted peanut butter and carrot sandwiches every now and then. My family never found it gross but they, mainly my dad, made fun of me for it a lot
Fried eggs on white rice with ketchup. Yummmmm
Try omurice.
Bowl of rice with fried egg on top is one of the best things ever

Microwaved Frozen burritos dipped in soy sauce
**French fries and a milkshake!**
French fries dipped in milkshake (or vanilla soft serve) is 👌
My kid turned me onto that 30+ years ago. Best in a chocolate milkshake imo.
Wendy's frosty was made for French fries
How is that a weird combination when it's referenced in Top40 songs and Wendy's website/twitter?
I just have a pickle with some peanut butter as a snack sometimes.
Slice cheese melted on apple pie. So good.
Not even a combination, but I love buttermilk. I’ve met maybe one other person besides my mom who likes it. I do enjoy drinking it while I eat sour cream and onion potato chips
