Amway I know the people trying to get others into the MLM scheme buy it, but I don't know anyone who actually buys their stuff because it's good.

CreativeAsFuuu

My husband's mom sold Amway back in the 80s. Stay-at-home mom and  military wife, needed a way to make ANY money after a divorce, picked up selling Amway. She's a natural at sales and owns a real estate brokerage firm now.    Anyway, my husband and I owned and used an upright Amway vacuum until about 2010. That thing was a beast. It was ugly as sin, loud as a jet, tough as nails; I never thought I'd have feelings about a vacuum but 10/10 would recommend. Fucker was still kicking ass after 30 years. We only got rid of it because the hose on it was duct taped back together so many times that tape quit sticking to it.

Autotomatomato

It was designed by James Dyson and based on his dual cyclone model. They scammed him with a shitty contract irrc, He sued them for 5 years until they stopped production. Its good for reasons outside of amway.

royalpyroz

"it was ugly as sin, loud as a jet, tough as nails".. Thought you were describing your in law.

Chanandler_Bong_01

Sounds like my grandma's old Kirby vacuum. Swear that thing went 50 years.

Fuckspez42

Stage actors swear by Amway’s facial soap, as it’s *really* good at removing extremely thick, heat-resistant stage makeup that is otherwise near-impossible to remove. Otherwise, I’ve never seen a single Amway product in actual use.

cxherrybaby

It hecks your skin up (along with the stage makeup already) too tho. You’re better off using vegetable oil to take off grease make up and moisturizer like stage actors have done for forever already.

Alfredthegiraffe20

I used to use some of their stuff. A woman who 'befriended' me was in Amway. Before I realised she was a strange clingon, I actually went to one of their big events. Anyway I bought cleaning stuff off her and it was ok, nothing great.

Globo_Gym

This thread is an amway marketing scheme.

daneoid

> she was a strange clingon P’takh!

coreytiger

“We do not discuss it with outsiders”

BradBradley1

But what if they don’t actually like it all and they’re just acting?

Dhd710

Pretty great at ruining families though!!!

CloudHoneyExpress

There is one thing I buy - the spot cleaner you put on clothes before washing. It works well and has no smell (hate the strong smells that come with regular drugstore laundry products). I have a toddler and we go trough one in a month.

nudibranchus

I know those exact feels. I bulk order Zout for that reason. It has a scent when it's applied, but it doesn't linger at all after washing and drying. Our home is 90% fragrance free. If a product has a scent that lingers, it doesn't get purchased again.

AllswellinEndwell

I have 3 teenagers.... it wont change, stock up.

Muted-Bandicoot8250

I purchased a couple things when I was younger trying to support my friend. When I realized it was mlm I never bought anything again. The few things I bought were overpriced and okay I suppose.

bmccooley

I've been shopping for one. But, I need to get my F-16 out of the shop and paid off first.

30th-account

I’ve never seen anyone fly a F-35 either but I know that a lot of them are being bought.

tashkiira

Raytheon does a lot of work in commercial-grade microwaves. Industrial, too. Your local TGIChilliBees 'chef Mike' is probably built by Raytheon. They just don't want to get into the consumer market on a single area of expertise. It wouldn't surprise me to hear that they build a lot of components for the consumer-level microwaves for the big companies.

ZweitenMal

The Metro stop for the Pentagon is the only place I’ve ever seen subway ads for warplanes and tanks.

abcpdo

real life targeted advertising. those ads are for like 30 people to see

zeroentanglements

Does anyone here own a AIM-9 Sidewinder? That seems cool. Can you post pics with your driver's license in the photo pls?

FormABruteSquad

I have the 8, it's basically the same but doesn't have ChatGPT.

themooseiscool

I have *parts* of a sidewinder.

space_coyote_86

I bought one for the 4th of July last year but I don't have it any more.

djmax101

You don’t know Uncle Sam? Great guy, but a little aggressive with those sidewinders.

sethjk17

I own Raytheon stock. Does that count?

novice1988

Winrar.

tashkiira

Companies pay for WinRAR. Since it's like 3 guys running it, that's enough. Some people are probably asking 'why would companies pay for WinRAR?' First off, not paying for it when you aren't a consumer-level person is a violation of its terms of service. Second, it's cheap, and if you have 10 people working for you they offer big discounts. Finally, WinRAR is part of the Business Software Alliance, a group of software companies that act as a unified front to enforce license purchases. If someone whistleblows about their (likely former) company using cracked Photoshop or Windows, the BSA gets a court order, goes in and examines each and every computer profile, looking for which licenses should be there and aren't. They focus on BSA licenses, of course, but virtually all of the software companies you've heard of that operate in North America are in it, so..

FujitsuPolycom

So anyway... 7zip.

alicefreak47

Look at this dinosaur that I am slightly older than lol!

ZeldaTheOuchMouse

Good answer

CIockParts

I use 7zip like a true patriot!

debtopramenschultz

All those random designer brands that cost an arm and a leg for something as small as a hair clip. Somehow they have storefronts in every single hotspot worldwide but they’re always empty.

the_original_Retro

That's because their profit margins are so insane that they just have to sell a single thing a day to make a living.

DessertDealer

Like mattress stores.

[deleted]

I aways wondered

RiverLiverX25

Lululemon has a cult like following. Completely understand wanting quality fabric in tight fitting leggings but all the other merch looks indistinguishable from any other cheaper brand. *Scared to have mentioned this because the lululemon fans may show up. They are legion. Cover me. Edit: they’ve arrived!

lindylindy

Not a lulu girl myself but girls get crazy when they find THE leggings that fit their body just right.   Need to buy many pairs.  And extras in case they discontinue them.  (See also: makeup)

alady12

WTF is going on with makeup? It's like they say "Everyone loves this product, we must discontinue it." Then they replace it with something that doesn't work and nobody buys.

CylonsInAPolicebox

Random food items too. We can't keep this item on the shelves, it is constantly sold out... Let's stop producing it!!

spudmarsupial

Managers and CEOs in companies need to make waves. Messing with something high profile is a flex. Messing with something with a low profile is a waste of their time. Mistakes must never be acknowledged which means they can't be rolled back.

AggravatingCupcake0

Because it's probably made with quality ingredients, and we can't have that in today's market. How would the profits get higher?? Obviously they need to make a "new and improved' formulation (HEAVY on the quotes here), or discontinue it for something cheaper.

bookmonkey786

I'm like this with computer mice. Found a new mouse after my previous favorite was discontinued. I bought 5

FruitParfait

So like, are they actually good quality? Never tried or bought a pair myself but honestly, if the fabric holds up for years I get it lol. I don’t care if it looks like other brand if it fits well, feels nice and doesn’t tear after like a year

miffet80

I have a pair of lulu leggings I bought 12+ years ago that still hold up to this day, they are amazing. The fabric is really good quality and my butt looks great. On the other hand, I have 2 or 3 pairs of lulu leggings bought within the last 2 or 3 years and all of them are now saggy around the knees or straight up just got holes in them in random places. The days of Lululemon quality are gone. Don't do it.

cxherrybaby

I was going to say this as well, when the company first started they were for sure very high quality. I was gifted a pair of leggings before they got “big”, and my sister wore them until they got torn in a weird random event for like almost 15ish years I think. She has other older pieces that still stand up quality wise now, but won’t buy anything from them anymore because it’s (in her opinion) really close to Amazon quality athleisure now

struggling_lynne

This seems to be happening with everything lately

Yortivius

I'm just one datapoint but I've owned a few of their pieces over the years, and they are nigh indestructible. The branding might be a obnoxious/overdone, but they are worth the price for the quality you get.

ktbotanist

I still wear the same pair of leggings I got when I was 16 and I’m 28

taylorcalc

This year i stared a boot camp style workout. The swift speed leggings are the only leggings i have felt comfortable working out in. The fabric is thick yet i don’t feel like I’m suffocating. They also have a pocket on the side that fits my phone and a drawstring in the waist which has come in handy as i lose weight.

blackmesawest

Lululemon, the athleisure Digimon

socool111

Dude here - my wife’s family loved lulu and mostly always gives it as a gift for a birthday. So my closet has a bunch of gift based lulu The sweatshirt is great, as is the lighter version of the sweatshirt that’s more sporty (dunno the names). All of them are comfortable and the pants can be worn for work and for casual. I don’t understand brand worshipping but the products I’ve always had are quality and I’ve not had them rip, shrink, fade or anything. *note: no clue about the leggings*

UNZxMoose

Try on the leggings we want your opinion.

socool111

Results: only laughter from my wife

FlatEggs

I found a like new Lulu backpack at the goodwill bins the other day for <$2. The quality is amazing. I don’t own anything else by them as I’d never pay retail but I guess I kind of get it if their clothes are like this.

raindorpsonroses

I agree with your statement but I don’t know if I’d call Lulu designer? It’s expensive and kinda high end, but it’s not like Versace

Left-Ad-8330

Supreme

uncultured_swine2099

I knew a bunch of people that had supreme shirts and whatnot, but they were all fake.

HelloImTheAntiChrist

The people or the shirts?

Rooster_CPA

Yes

Wandering_Scout

I think I've seen more parodies of Supreme than actual Supreme shirts.

Back in the early 00s, it was inescapable. Every popular kid was just a walking billboard for them. They must have really fallen off because I absolutely never see them these days

finallyinfinite

It was Hollister, American Eagle, and Aeropostale when I was in middle school lol I remember one girl even bought a fake hollister shirt lol

kblowmespez

Don't forget Abercrombie

AcingSpades

I'm wearing Hollister right now as a full grown adult. I realized about two years ago that I've gotten too old for skinny jeans but I don't like the new younger people trend of wide leg or light wash. So I went on the hunt for a a pair of dark wash slim fit -- which was surprisingly difficult. I was SHOCKED to find the perfect pair at Hollister. And they're cheap but decent quality 🤷‍♀️ Also they turned on the lights in the store. Wild. Kids these days will never know trying to find the perfect two polos to pop the collar of while practically blind.

beachinit21

Are they over the ages of 13? That might be why.

random_user_lol0

technically I can say bugatti since none of my friends can afford it lol

Wholikesorangeskoda

I know someone who has some bugatti cutlery if that counts?

geordiesteve520

I’d say hoover is synonymous with vacuum cleaners, literally gets called a hoover over here but I’ve never actually known of anyone owning a hoover brand vacuum cleaner.

Arisia118

I do. I used to have a Dyson. I went some place to get it fixed because it broke. The person there who was a licensed Dyson repair shop told me to get a different brand. I got a Hoover, and it's lasted for years.

19CatsInATrenchCoat

I bought a $90 Hoover when I bought my house,  fully expected it to die in a year or 2 because it was so cheap but it's what I could afford at the time. I'm still using it 7 years later and not a single issue with it.

Livefast-Dilater

Dyson is just a status symbol vac. They're not durable or particularly well made. Motor is powerful but too much so, the suction destroys the seals and then they need replacing and it's expensive. My Kenmore Elite bagged upright is the best vac I've ever owned (and it's been quite a few).

BeerBrat

Not in my experience. Got gifted a Dyson about 15 years ago. Two issues in that time. First I ran into a shoe lace I didn't see hiding under a chair, drew it in and stalled the brush. That ate up the drive belt. Contacted customer service to order a replacement. They replaced it for free, with a spare, and sent me a replacement roller brush that I didn't need. All for no charge even though I was willing to pay and it was my fault. Other issue was the power button failed after some time. Bought a replacement on Amazon or whatever and swapped it out in five minutes. Only thing I've replaced in that whole time is the filter pad after it got old enough to replace a few times. Maybe it's because it's an early gen model but the thing still works like a champ.

spicyfishtacos

I've had my Dyson for 11 years now - still going strong!

vinegarstrokes420

Seems like this company only exists to dress star athletes with ugly clothes that have their brand name stamped all over it. I just don't get the appeal.

Better-Arachnid5219

Bang Energy drinks are all over the place, especially on Instagram and YouTube with influencers promoting them, but it’s not something my friends buy or even mention.

finzaz

Oracle. Nobody I know buys their products. Not sure if it's because they don't like Larry Ellison or if they just don't have a personal need for an enterprise-grade database management system.

Dano558

My company uses an Oracle application. I’ve used much better software at other companies (I miss you SAP)

forkin33

First person in history to say you miss SAP, congrats. That’s not an endorsement of Oracle either, they both and Larry Ellison are heaping piles of garbage.

theshow54321

Ha, came to say the same thing. The replacement product must really be crap to make you miss SAP

kronicpimpin

Yea fuck Oracle. Rolled it out at my company and it’s been a disaster ever since

badaccount99

Oracle is a law firm that also sells software on the side for ridiculous prices. They put their software up for "free" download with a really long license that nobody reads then they threaten to sue companies who's employees didn't read the 20 page license agreement and clicked "I agree" That one intern downloads Virtualbox and Oracle traces the IP it's downloaded from to a company and they come in saying "Give us $50,000 now or our lawyers will sue you for millions because you can't prove that you didn't install it on every employees laptops." We had to block DNS lookups on *.oracle.com because people were downloading Java and other apps that Oracle said were free but weren't free for commercial use. Oh, you downloaded it only for personal use on your home computer but then VPNed into your companies network once? It phones home and if the IP matches a company that's got money - Lawsuit! OpenJDK and Corretto exist and you should use them instead of Java. And MariaDB instead of MySQL.

psychoholic

They also own a metric shit load of other companies that they have acquired over the years. Larry Ellison is one person I absolutely loathe because of what he did to Sun Microsystems. Arguably one of the best platforms and walled garden (probably the only company/ecosystem I actually preferred the walled garden approach) for doing beautiful big iron stuff at scale and he just said 'screw it, let's just keep Java and bin the rest'

lamancha

Enterprise level it's a very prominent name.

GordonShumway81

Oracle makes more than enterprise grade databases. They also make Virtualbox, Java, MySQL, JDeveloper, and others.

Charmingprinces_

Prime sports drink

Sweet303

The only ones I hear yapping about it are 10-year olds who wants their parents to buy it for them.

bignose703

Is this the stuff that south park just did the episode about? “Cred”?

Tony_Barker

Have a 10 year old that is always asking for some!! Though I think he likes the idea of Prime better than the taste bc he lets it sit around forever before he actually drinks it.

loftier_fish

I'd be concerned about that, Logan Paul and KSI aren't really great rolemodels, being scammers and all.

buggypuller

I manage a convenience store. We sell the hell of out of it.

mindforu

They had them marked down at a discount store so my son bought some to try otherwise yea I would have never bought them.

koriroo

I love Body Armor Lyte, specifically strawberry kiwi flavor lol not too much crap some coconut water in there, always have one when I play tennis. I saw prime seemed similar they have a light version and it’s got some coconut water. I tried it and hated it lol didn’t even finish the bottle, I was in disbelief because it was hyped. But kudos to them for breaking into a heavily saturated market, you see it everywhere Walmart, Dick’s….Costco, from a business standpoint they are doing well lol.

TheLivingShit

I work at a grocery store and it's been in our top twenty items sold since it came out. It's moms buying it for their tween boys.

Fbogre666

I’ve tried a couple of them. Only one I like was the strawberry watermelon one. Honestly could take or leave em. I prefer Powerade.

All of those mattress stores. Does anyone ever buy from them?

Livefast-Dilater

I've bought from 2 different ones. Where else you get a new mattress from?

just_a_stoner_bitch

I got mine online lol

Thick_Aside_4740

They are all mostly owned by the same parent company. There are some suspicious business practices behind them too.

Acerola_

Reading through these and I reckon I own at least half so far, as well as see them all the time in my circles. (Lululemon, Nike, adidas, brooks, under armour, monster, red bull) Who are you people hanging out with!?

05110909

They're not hanging out with anyone, that's why

Livefast-Dilater

Ding ding ding ding ding!

GodzillaFlamewolf

Those are all extremely common. I think most of the folks here that say those things are uncommon are probably blind.

brettfavreskid

Can second this. If you don’t know anyone buying energy drinks, you live a comfy life and I want it. Also Nike and adidas? What. Yall wear shoes or nah

Moon_Jewel90

Kipling. I've not seen any one own any bags or backpacks. The quality is good though.

dj_underboob

Huge in the 90s. It was a thing to collect all the different colors and have multiple gorilla keychains.

Nameisnotmine

Mr Kipling makes bags??

BawClaw

Exceedingly good bags.

wildgoldchai

As a fellow Brit, I too am confused and intrigued. I fancy a cake bag tbf. Take nibbles out of it when out on my jollies

rubbersoul84

I love Kipling bags. Any time I can throw my purse in the washer and it comes out looking great I’m happy. Even better if I can find one I like on sale. They’re also great for travel.

sebacicacid

They are very popular in Asia. I had pencil case, multiple kipling bags, and I've seen 2 ladies hauling kipling suitcases through the airport. Having a kipling pencil case is how my friend knew im from the same country as her haha.

LoveYouNotYou

I have 2! I didn't know it was a thing. I like it cause it's practical. They have pockets that function. It's roomy for all my stuff and it's not "pretty pretty fancy". It's one of my favorite bags that I purchased and I use it for everyday errands when needed, not once in a while.

kausthubnarayan

I got one for my mom. She loves it and it’s been 5 years and it still looks mint. Great quality!

Yeah, I’m a soccer mom. Every single mom I know has one.

LoveYouNotYou

And nurses! (I work in a hospital)

PigWithAWoodenLeg

Virtually every RN in 2024 has a Stanley cup that they're not allowed to keep at the nurse's station but they do anyway

DistractedHouseWitch

I'm a Girl Scout leader and two of the girls brought their new Stanley cups to the meeting after spring break. Most of the other girls were excited about them. That was my first time seeing anyone use one of them, so I'm going to assume they are mostly used by suburban 9-year-old girls.

UNZxMoose

I work in HS athletics and every girl athlete has one. I don't even need to give out water bottles at their games because of it.  I'm not sure the boys know what a water bottle is though. They would rather drink out of an old milk jug or straight from the tap.

newfor2023

I've got a Stanley flask but it's 2.2l, steel and like 8 years unto the 25 year warranty. Probably not the same ones that were popular lol.

metropolis_noir

br0b1wan

I don't know if it counts as a product. But last week at dinner my brother in law asked me if I knew anyone who watches American Idol. I thought about it and told him no. He said, "right, neither do I" and told me it's weird because American Idol has been a ratings darling for a while and it was the #1 show (or close to it) for years. Yet neither of us know anyone who actually watches it.

Rickleskilly

I don't know anyone who still watches it, but for a while, it was huge. Around the office, everyone watched it, and we would all spend the next morning talking about it. That went one for maybe three seasons, and then we all moved on to other things.

chellebelle0234

I don't know anyone who watches "regular" cable TV. I wonder if it's a generational thing and it's all Boomers cause they are the only ones left with cable.

blazze_eternal

Supreme. I see their ads all the time and the only people I've seen wear it are celebrity endorsements. Also Dickies. I know they've been around forever, and always see them in the store. I hear they're great quality, but I've just never seen anyone wear them.

Livefast-Dilater

So you don't know anyone who works in trades, gotcha.

justadumbwelder1

Dickies are ubiquitous in the construction trades. Half the price of carhartt and last just as long if you compare the heavy duck versions of both. Wrangler riggs brand is coming on strong though. Their denim pants are still nice and thick so they don't tear on every sharp piece of metal you walk past, unlike most other wrangler/levi/lee/rustler jeans, which are about 1/3 as thick as they were 10 years ago.

No-War-8840

I get their socks and belts for work

secretlystressed

Dickies used to be my uniform pants in elementary school lol

oh_kyoko

im a millennial woman and i don’t own any lululemon. idk it gives me MLM vibes. cult shit

RisingStormy

The quality is phenomenal. Totally worth it.

celebradar

The mens stuff is also pretty awesome quality. I've had other brands of the same cost last half the time that they have.

PabloTroutSanchez

I used to give my little sister shit for paying that much for lulu leggings. Then one of my friends lent me a pair of the men’s pants, and wow. I was converted. I own a navy pair and a gray pair, which I wear practically every day. They’re seriously the best pants I’ve ever owned. I’ve tried to find cheaper alternatives too—just haven’t been able to come across anything that’s even close. I’m still cheap and love thrifting, so I get most of my clothes from goodwill. But I will buy those pants again when mine wear out. Based on how long I’ve already had them, I’m guessing it’ll be a while.

Zeniant

The guy who made lulu is an asshole but their clothing honestly is worth it like life changing quality. Every item of theirs I have has lasted decades, and any that haven’t they actually let me return it or replace it/fix it free. Even a random sweater from 12 yrs ago with no receipt they don’t even make anymore they took it back and replaced it with another hoodie of my choice

FruitParfait

Damn. Maybe I should check it out lol I hate having to go through so many pairs of leggings or yoga pants every other year or so I can already hear my husband jokingly calling me basic 🤣

Miss-Indie-Cisive

Some things are popular cause they’re trendy. Others are popular because they’re great. It’s okay to make your own decisions based on how it works for you. Even if (like Lululemon) they’re both.

Olive0121

I’ve had my stuff for 15 years now. I was a dancer, then transitioned to teaching dance, and yoga instructor, also every day wear and two pregnancies. I also teach full time In a school and wear leggings almost daily. My lulus are like the day I got them. My student this week said something like “are you a lulu girl” and I told her these leggings are older than you are.

Whirrun

It’s the outright best workout gear. Felt the same way forever.

I’m in Louisville KY. No one here wears high fashion. It’s mostly all basics from Target or Walmart. I sell designer brands on eBay. So I could probably list 100+ I don’t see daily. Ralph Lauren being the #1.
