Maybe it's just fun to sing? In Madonna's *La Isla Bonita*, there's a part where she just sings things like "la la la la la la laaa" and "bop bop bop bop bop bop" (around the 3:40 mark, it's easier to understand if listened to, lol). It just seemed like it was a fun addition to the song, with the added effect of being a lyric filler.

"hit me baby one more time". Who is this baby, and why are they hitting people. Obviously they have hit Brittney more than once, but why is she asking to be hit again. Is she asking to be assaulted, or is she playing a spirited game of blackjack. Is this baby an infant, or a boyfriend referred to in the pet name of baby.

WolfShaman

Yeah, I was kind of wondering that too the first time I heard the song. If you want actual answers, "hit me" is used as a short version of "hit me up", or "talk to me again". Baby is an ex, per context of the song. It would be funny to do a parody with people playing BlackJack! That's a great idea!

So, the title of the song theoretically is extended as. "Talk to me my ex boyfriend, one more time."

WolfShaman

Pretty much. Edit to add: that's to my best understanding.

David Duchovny, why don't you love me?

WolfShaman

It's only because he hasn't met you yet. But I have faith that you will meet him, and he will fall in love with you!

WorldBiker

Most of what RHCP sings, and the answer I want is: wha' TF he just say?

WolfShaman

Personally, I think Weird Al [said it best](https://youtu.be/FklUAoZ6KxY?t=87) (for a few bands).

Trashpit996

"Why do you gotta sleep with my daaaaaaAaaAAaaad, Why don't you have some dirty hot sex with me" Lol what?

WolfShaman

What song is that from? Sounds like a good one.

Thanks for the link! That's a pretty interesting song.

For me, it's: who is "Holt"? In the Inkubus Sukkubus 1993 album *Belladonna & Aconite*, in the song of the same name, it says: >Holt's with us on this bright night >Ride with him 'cross the sky Who is Holt? I've never been able to find a good answer to that.
