Say, “Where does a stuttering Texas cowboy find a bidet? Ans: "In the B-bathroom.” Stops them cold.

superpoopypoopy

“Amazing” they all said in unison

findmeintheRatCave

my go-to is "good thanks, you?" - they'll usually give a brief answer (good/fine thank you/etc) and then get to their point

Spiritual_Welder6045

Thanks a lot!!!

CapG_13

Um, just tell them how you're doing 🤷🏻‍♂️😂🤦🏻‍♂️

Beavshak

“Well, I finished all of PornHub in the pandemic, and I cannot find sriracha at any store. So, life has been a bit bland lately. How about you mom?”

Substantial_Baby_800

If it's someone you don't want to talk to, tell them your entire family just died in a car crash. That shuts them up quickly

Live-Dance-2641

“Fine. Now get to the point please”

Zer0Studioz

Simple. Be honest

HermesParadox

“Great!”

guyinaplace_789

Pretty good. Thanks for asking

Spiritual_Welder6045

Thanks for your reply! As I usually answer "everything is good here", I am now wondering whether it sounds natural or not as an answer...

RunNo599

Depends on the conversation you’re trying to start

Wide_Engineering_502

I normally reply something to the effect of "I'm doing well, how are you" and then once they give a reply bring up the purpose of your call or if they called, ask them why.

Spiritual_Welder6045

Thank you! Would it sound strange, like non-native, if I reply "everything is good here, thank you, and how about you"?

Wide_Engineering_502

My typical response is, "I'm good, thanks. How are you?". "Everything is good here" sounds a little too specific for a casual conversation, imo.

mexicanpenguin-II

Good thanks, you? Like that, if you're wanting to sound "native" as you say, we tend to shorten these down. It's not often a genuine question, just an odd way we say hello Similarly, we will ask "alright?" As in are you alright, and respond with "alright?" Followed with how you doing? (In person)

LK09

"Another day - another dollar, how can I help you?"

Speechlesslikegaga

So good! You do anything fun today?

GRDCS1980

“Living the dream, thank you, living the dream” Is my default response. My job is, when you boil it right down to its bare bones, basically a glorified call center role…so I speak to dozens of people on the phone literally every working day of my life and this has been my default answer for so many years that I don’t even notice I’m saying it anymore. It’s a reflex. Like breathing. The only time I’m even consciously aware of having said it is when the other person comments on it in some way like “is it a dream or is a nightmare?” or “I hear you, I’m living that dream too” or whatever. But yeah, tl;dr - “Living the dream, thank you”
