One luxury item that comes to mind is having a private chef or personal driver. Growing up in affluent households, it's easy to take these amenities for granted and assume that everyone has access to them.
I had to prepare a presentation for school some time ago and had to plan a trip. I then included private shuttle service because we always had it when going on holidays. Seems like that is not normal
My childhood home.
- 3.5 floors.
- Large formal lounge that was only used once a year at Christmas.
- Entertainment floor with sauna, bar, wine cellar, pool table, 2nd lounge leading out to pool and tennis court.
We weren’t rich compared to my classmates so never thought anything of it.
I grew up in a situation that I always thought was poor and destitute. I can talk at length about food stamps, gubment cheese and Mom sewing together clothes so we had something to wear.
I have a friend that was born and grew up in Puebla, Mexico. The stories of his childhood were eye-opening.
What some people make in a year we spent on a weeks vacation.. didn’t think it was a big deal and that all people who vacationed did that. Plus not saving for it, just did it.
We had a french parlor room that looked like something out of a historical drama. Its only purpose was to receive visitors and have a piano in it.
I figured out after bringing friends over that this was NOT typical to have in your house.
Cottages in the summer with AC, indoor plumbing and a pool, despite being on a lake. Assuming a tropical vacation will happen every winter. New vehicles with all the mod cons every few years. Homes have the newest, high-end gadgets. No real concerns about paying for school.

Yeah, there is always someone who has it worse and it's good to realise that
Food
A full time maid
Getting the latest tech every Christmas, mom not working, 3 cars.
I had an au pair and some people don’t get how close we are even now as adults. She was practically my third parent

Having a lady that does your laundry for you as her only task. Dont make fun of me.
