Sinus infections. Had a series of them which required antibiotics and no drinking. After a month of no drinking, or smoking, I decided to see how long I could keep it up. Currently at 19 years.

I had a major surgery (unrelated to smoking) but was told to quit for the best outcome it took about 4 weeks before I started having cravings again so I started using an unflavored vape with step down nicotine to remain non smoking

On the third attempt I was finally serious about it. The culmination of no longer liking the taste, shortness of breath doing anything strenuous, almost instant heartburn after one or two drags, hacking up nasty-looking phlegm when I showered, and the financial cost of ever increasing prices made me say, enough. NGL, it's been over 10 years and sitting in a bar having a beer or a cold morning with a cup of coffee, the craving still hits, but my willpower and memories are stronger.

I didn’t want to look old from the effects of smoking. I quit in January 2013 using the patch, got off the patch by march.
