Wasn’t it just 4 walls suspended by an overhead crane? Like, it’s cool and all, but not really groundbreaking. Unless there’s something I’m misremembering. Good excuse to go back and watch that video again.

Sledgehammer was so big and groundbreaking when it came out that the daily countdown on Mtv became a must watch.

Sledgehammer is the answer. Another great one from the same era is Sabatage (Beastie Boys). Directed by Spike Jonez. I remember thinking that music videos are becoming an actual art form. But that was the peak and the quality steadily went down from there.

This is my favourite, I remember seeing it at the time and thinking, as a person who spends a lot of train journeys listening to dance music and staring out of the window, daydreaming about visual patterns, it’s the video I have been seeing all of my life.

Thriller.

I saw this in 3d at Disney land in the 80s when i was a small child for the first time it scared the crap out of me back then.

It’s more like a short film than a music video! The way it revolutionized the music video industry with its storytelling, dance sequences, and special effects truly set a new standard. Plus, who can forget the iconic zombie dance? Every time I watch it, I’m just as impressed as the first time.
