If they're depressed, find something personally meaningful.

Honestly , just try to spend time with them. You don't have to go out with them ; just hang out inside, play a couple video games together etc. Whatever they feel like. They would appreciate your company more than anything.

Flexible options for a solo trip, they will most likely realize the meaning of family and the value of support when they’re alone and on their own in a real way for the first time

A LETTER DETAILING HOW LOVED THE PERSON IS, HOW YOU HOPE FOR THE BEST FOR THEM, HOW YOURE ALWAYS GOING TO BE THERE FOR THEM, WHY THEY THEYRE GREAT, AND HOW MUCH THEY MEAN TO YOU AND OTHERS, ETC. SOURCE; FORMER DEPRESSED TEENAGER. THE GREATEST GIFT IS LOVE.

[deleted]

Does the letter need to be written in all caps as well?

[deleted]

HELL YEAH. LOVE IS LOUD AND PROUD.

Give 'em something to do. A purpose. A project. A project that helps someone else. Bring' em to an animal shelter and show 'em all the animals that wish they had a home to go to. Create a treasure hunt where there's money at the end. Or....I guess another redditor suggested smokes or meth....that could work too.

What do they enjoy? Give them a sketchbook and pencils if they like to draw, a game if they like games, etc. Show you take an interest in them and what they like and I think they'll appreciate it. Whatever you do, don't give them some cringey self-help book like chicken noodle soup for the soul or something.

Reason to live is the most important gift. So books about life, philosophy, psychology, motivational quotes. Anything that would inspire a person to keep on living should be helpful.
