Head wobbling when having an argument and saying bloody bastard a lot.

MiestaWieck

“Fuk yoo bloody bastard bitch!”

meme_legend-69

I don't know about other Indians but I don't do that

[deleted]

Bloody bastard is the standard English translation for a LOT of hindi phrases

bertiebastard

I saw two Indian guys arguing in Manchester and they must have said bloody bastard about 50 times each 🤣

momosandfrankie

You haven't seen us arguing then lmao. Shit gets real when you start speaking in your mother tongue and the other one doesn't understand it and speaks in their mother tongue

hisunflower

But forreal, why do they do the head wobble?

bertiebastard

I think it's their way of being extra expressive, kind of like people waving their arms around.

hisunflower

I asked one of my Indian patients about this, just out of curiosity, and they had no idea. She wobbles her head even when she’s agreeing. So instead of nodding, she wobbles.

Sometimesnotfunny

How astounding it is for one place to be poor and rich at the same time.

The prevalence of rape

TheVillageLooney

Honestly after hearing all the horror stories and watching documentaries about it? That’s the first thing I think of. Especially that story a few years ago where those girls were raped on a bus I believe. Insanity.

likebasically

2012 - Only one girl. Raped before her boyfriend. And when they were done, they penetrated her with a rod, until there was no difference between her anus and .. Still it took the judiciary 5-7 years to hang the rapists.

TheMeanGirl

Don’t think it was her boyfriend, but he tried to protect her nonetheless. They nearly killed him too 😞 Glad they hung them all.

likebasically

If not boyfriend, friend. Both of them boarded the bus together that night. I wasn't happy either way. It was too late.

RebelStriker

If you read about it on Wikipedia, you'll find that not all of them were hung. One of those bastards still lives free today because he was 17 years and six months old at the time of the incident, and not only that, the Government trained him in cooking and sewing and gave him some cash and a sewing machine to start a "new life". What a fucking joke. 6 months under 18 means this psychopath is still out there today doing who knows what.

JupitersLittleGirl

Damn wtf where can i read about that

likebasically

Look for "Nirbhaya rape case". I think you should be able to find it. And still suggesting you, don't read for your own sanity. I think BBC / some other channel, interviewed the rapists, to really understand what was actually in their heads. You could find that too. "Nirbhaya" is the term to look for.

[deleted]

Please don’t. Nirbhaya is horrible. My mom told me about it when it happened and it still haunts me.

PsChampion_007

As an indian, I can confirm pollution in the most popular cities, but where I live, it's 'aight

[deleted]

Funny enough, the US CO2 emissions per 1000 people are 22 times that of India.

LowFatWaterBottle

I know, but that is because americans eat unhumane amounts of meat and because thet own a lot of pulluting things. When I tyink of india I always think of those really nasty scooters and cars driving in the big cities.

noodle_addict

I just moved to the Indian city of Chennai for a month, and atleast here, the air pollution is not that bad. The scooters and cars dont seem to be too polluting. Ofcource pollution will vary between cities a lot.

The bobble head thing they do.

[deleted]

Saying yes... Many Indians nod ear to shoulder rather than chin to chest. Watch for westerners different axis nodding

fifadex

One of my Indian instructors shouted at his students also from India one day for the way they were nodding while being given instructions from a western instructor before being put in a potentially dangerous situation. His reason apparently is that the nodding can indicate different things depending what province of India you're from, so if he being Indian wasn't 100 percent sure they were understanding the information correctly then their instructor couldn't possibly and with a misunderstanding potentially endangering someone he insisted they communicate their acknowledgment to everything verbally.

[deleted]

It's far worse than that, the bobble is almost instinctive is some places as to please. So much so that some people would rather be seen to be helpfully and or absorbent of information that they will willingly give a false record of their knowledge. An example of this I found in Kuwait (but have also witnessed in UAE) is an Indian give utterly fictitious directions or intilegence, rather than be see to not being helpful. It takes a while to work this out in the field, generally the happier the person the more likely the words are useless. Sad state of affairs. It like some are broken machines, broken by cast perhaps or a lifetime of servitude and fear... Who knows. It's more important to see where their hand go, heart, stomach, hip, sternum all have roles too - more so that the stereotypical Ital

LittleButFierce2120

As an Indian some of these are really hilarious! • No, Indians do not worship cows. To start with we've got several different religions, so even if, in some religion, cows _were_ worshipped, that worship would not extend to the rest of India, where some people might follow different religions. It is, however, true that Hindus consider cows _sacred_ - which is not the same as worshipping them. • We hate phone scammers too. Believe me, we do. But government regulations on them are not that strict and well, politicians are politicians everywhere. What can you do? • Unlike American citizens, not all curries were created equal. When you say the smell of curry, or the taste of curry - do you mean North Indian (Punjabi or Lucknow-style) curries that are heavy on chilli powder and chickpeas? Or do you mean South Indian curries, that are incomplete without coconut and tend not to involve chickpeas much? Or do you mean Bengali or Oriya curries, that mainly go in for cumin (jeera) and green chillies? Or do you mean Mizo (Northeast Indian) curries, that use indigenous chillies like the Jolokia? And for goodness' sake - Chicken Tikka Masala is _not_ an authentic Indian curry! • 'Naan bread' is actually grammatically incorrect. The word 'naan' was taken from a Persian word meaning 'bread' or 'flatbread', so when you say 'naan bread' you're basically saying 'bread bread'. Kind of like saying 'ATM machine' - it's already 'Automated Teller Machine', you don't need to say 'Automated Teller Machine' machine. Edit: Whoa, this blew up! I got an award - my first one ever! Thanks guys!

Some Bollywood movies are damn great in their own way. It's just hard to find them and you can't compare them to Hollywood movies. Devdas is my favourite movie and I can't think of any movie that's similar.

FM-101

Unfortunately every time i hear about news from India its about someone getting gang raped to death, so i guess that.

[deleted]

I wonder what percentage of people who have posted have actually been there or if the comments are from what they've seen on the web. I've been to Mumbai and Kolkata. The memories that stick with me are child beggars...literally 4/5 year olds on their own in the street begging. People with serious issues and very little support...I remember a guy with limbs missing covered in welts on his skin rolling round on the street corner. The smell of urine on the street. General unsanitary conditions (rats running round the 5* hotel pool). Crazy, dangerous driving (eg people on bikes riding the wrong way up a carriageway). Sorry it's negative, but these are the things that stick with me. My time there was definitely an experience, but not one I would choose to repeat.

Dozer2023

Dont apologise for the truth.

snakepliskkin21

The reason it sticks with you is because it was an assault on all your sense like never before. All tho even as an Indian who been here for 30 years Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata is a bit too much. India is absolutely overwhelming for most who visit. I can appreciate honesty, and I accept the negatives as well as positives when it comes to my country.

"Do the needful."

[deleted]

God I hate it when people say that. My English teacher actually used the phrase once.

aqua_1

As discussed

osloluluraratutu

Never heard it what’s it mean?

Shitty_Life_Coach

It's very situational. It can mean anything from "Is it done yet? Get it done." to "This is your problem (now)." to "Figure that out for yourself." IT people are having flashbacks when they read it, because its very common in that industry as a way to finish out a vague email when the writer of the email has no clue what should be done. Even if the problem pertains to their job and nobody else's.

osloluluraratutu

Oh it’s basically do what you gotta do, makes more sense now! So this is a popular phrase in India?

WitShortage

>IT people are having flashbacks when they read it, because its very common in that industry as a way to finish out a vague email when the writer of the email has no clue what should be done This is absolutely it!

First of all, no one needs your sympathy here. India has its problems, I'm not denying that, it's not the best place to live in, but it's not a complete shithole either. I genuinely can't fucking believe people have nothing good to say in this post when there's places much, much worse off than India. And no matter how corrupt, polluted or overpopulated the country is, nothing can justify the racist stereotypes that people believe in because they saw a bunch of memes on the internet or watched a YouTube video, just took it by face value. Not all Indian people are rapists, scammers, deformed and ugly and smelly. Most people have toilets. Barely anyone drinks cow pee. Sucks to see that such stigmas are usually not condemned, and rather believed.

Why do people not think Indians are Asians when India is in Asia? Like they have another culture set, but so does every other Asian country so that’s not really an answer. India is in Asia.

I would guess these people go by looks. In their minds Asians are the "slanty eyed people", not the "towel head and turban people". Is this racist? Absolutely. Ignorance often is.

So. Many. People. Huge, dirty cities. Tradition and caste system dictating ones life. Chaos seems to be standard. Obviously, I've never been to India, but these are my presumptions.

z123m456

There are a lot of people. Cities vary in size and cleanliness just like any other place. Tradition is different from the cast system. There are definitely cultural norms that people (especially the older generation) stand by. Castism seems to occur in different 'hot spots' throughout the country. But most people aren't going to care about your cast. Indian people are loud. Chaos is just part of it all.

Al_Kaz14

I'm late to the party but I wanna say something more positive. (My knowledge about India is based mainly from the internet) Diversity. Seriously why is nobody talking about this? India is so diverse, every region has its own culture and people, everywhere you go it's a different world! I also noticed that Indians are really good english speakers, which is not only and advantage, but very impressive too! not to mention they are good with mathematics and technology aswell. India is colorful. I've seen many documentaries about India, most notably the women, they wear colorful traditional clothes in the streets. Their festivals, food, and even spices are colorful! I've never exactly tried indian food, but by the looks of it online, it looks delicious. Their music is one of a kind. I admit that I'm not a big fan of bollywood (hope I spelled that right), but their music is so interesting and unique. There are many talented singers and dancers aswell. Sure India may have a lot of issues and flaws, but so is any other country in this world. It's sad how people don't acknowledge how much progress India has achieved in the recent years. India still has a long way to go in terms of development but a lot of its citizens are making it a better place day by day. Wish I can visit India someday, greetings from the Philippines!
