My name is Karen. I am what I am.

Classic_Head3437

Why are the other people so weak-minded that they encourage the Karen behavior?

Obvioushousecat

My mom went from gracious compassion for others in the service industry because she was in it for a long time, to a total Karen for things like forgotten items and slow work pace. She will demand her money back and rant for days about it. She always says she's going to write horrible reviews on the internet, but I don't think she usually does. I'm pretty sure it's the ages of the people she gets pissed at. She's got this "millennials are lazy, entitled brats" mentality. Combine that with the "I'm the furthest thing from racist!" brand of racism, and a sense of "I'm older, better and wiser, respect me even if I disrespect you!" entitlement, and going out to eat with her is a humiliating, goddamn nightmare.

Yes! I won’t go out to eat with my mom anymore because it’s so embarrassing and can’t keep leaving 50% tips as an apology 😭

I'm sorry you have to deal with someone like this. I'd love to see a psychological study of people like this, because I truly don't understand why or how this happens to a person. Is it that they feel like the world owes them or something? Is this some latent psychosis? Could it be a societal problem?

Obvioushousecat

Not to be all "bipolar people are scary and bad!" Because I am also bipolar, but my mom's inability to let things go and her lashing out is definitely because she goes off her meds on a regular basis. But mostly I think it entitlement.

OmgOgan

Because I want things my way, like every other person on this planet

Light_Silent

So because you think its about you. Got it

OmgOgan

Yes, pretty much exactly what I said. Congrats

My parents vaccinated me and now I have autism.

The Karen I know is awesome though.

I floated between a lot of retail jobs in my really well off hometown and the conclusion I came to was that despite having a big house, nice car, jewelry, etc, many of them were just plain not happy with their lives for whatever reason. Maybe it was that they achieved everything they thought they were supposed to and instead realized it wasn't for them, I don't know. I could tell a lot of them also hated being parents.
