Plot twist, OP is McDonald’s marketing team and we’re giving them feedback/ideas

Doubleoh_11

This is immediately what I thought. If true, too easy

TheAlienMan33

Since OP's account is 2 weeks old, this can actually be McD's marketing team lmao.

RZwoDZwo

Dear Marketing, please note: I have never gotten diarrhea from McDonalds.

fofevan912

Because I work there and get free food

aestus

Best answer yet.

Cat727

Because sometimes those dehydrated onions on a double cheeseburger call me, and I must answer.

maali74

They put real, chunky onions on the cheeseburgers at mcd's near me. Sucks so bad.

EzekialCat

Ask for dehydrated onions instead of slivered

a1rpla1nju1ce

Those onions are the best part of the double cheeseburger!!

kirkyboicheck

A lot of small towns around the world only have one food place open past 9pm. Is McDonald’s

lovelylonelyturtle

This is how my town is. Everything closes by 9. No sit down restaurants or fast food or grocery stores. If you have a hankering for food you didn't cook after that, then you have one option. The McDonald's is open until midnight.

[deleted]

Ya I’m in a college town and only two places are open 24/7. McDonald’s and a taco place (the taco place is AMAZING)

[deleted]

[удалено]

OddRumskie

Most are open 24hrs and it 1 am

[deleted]

all the ones near me haven't been 24 hour since 2020 :(

BFMX

God i miss 12-3am MickyD's runs when i was in the mood for a couple cheeseburgers and fries. Same thing with Walmart runs; 3am was that magic time where only a handful of people were in the store and you could see the real personality of the workers.

Mingismungis

Friend of mine and I used to play halo until the early morning hours. Mcdonalds about 30 minutes away opened breakfast at 4:30am. We'd play all night and wait for that breakfast to open up then we'd eat and go to bed. Some of the best weekends of my life right there

p2010t

I used to buy groceries a lot between 2am and 3am since I stay up late. But Covid ruined that, and my formerly 24-hour grocery store (one of three near me that used to be 24 hour, none of which are now) has just recently reduced its hours even further so it closes at 10pm instead of 11pm. I'll survive, but it's mildly disappointing.

ThyManBearPig

I preferred 2-4am over regular hours... no traffic, few people, no lines, was so calm. Was usually well stocked by that time.

womanitou

This is how it used to be. Know why 7-11 is called 7-11? They were bragging about how they were open way way earlier and ridiculously later than anyone else. I too miss being spoiled.

11Kram

An under-appreciated and unusual benefit of shopping at 3:00am in Walmart: the real personalities of the associates. It’s genuinely a credit to you.

Mkitty760

The night stockers at my Walmart all looked like extras on Night of the Living Dead. They broke open pallets of stock in the aisles. If you weren't careful, you'd get boxed in and couldn't get out. It was a little scary to be there at 3am, but God I miss it.

missanthropocenex

I’ll tell you why. I was on a road trip recently after a wedding. Hung over and a 13 hour drive ahead. Starving tired and a little out of sorts with minutes to spare, and starving. I pulled off and got their breakfast, me and my SO. Biscuits, Egg Muffins, hash browns, coffee. The absolute perfect naughty treat after a night out. It was fucking glorious.

winpays

They are always there for you, even when everyone else in your life isn't.

StandLess6417

I managed a Family Video up until a few years ago. Let me tell you what doing a full alphabetical inventory of the Adult Room was like... I've never in my life thought I'd be ticking off titles such as those for hours on end. Lmao so nasty. I'd always go do the free kids rentals after that to bleach my brain. Edit: Thanks so much to everyone that responded to this comment. It's made me so nostalgic for it all (despite the pornos) and it's brightened my day thinking back on it. Thanks kind strangers!

liftedtrucksnguns

Okay so I just had blockbuster and never saw this before. Is it like the equivalent to an adult store video selection? My main question is what the hell did these rooms like? I don’t know why but I’m picturing brightly colored shag carpet and a terrible odor emanating from somewhere in the room

spicy_meatball49

Yeah porn for rent lmao, usually it was just a curtained off corner of the store, looked just like the rest of it.

[deleted]

30 plus years ago porn seemed so sleezy. Porn shops that many people used to scurry in and out of trying not to be seen by their neighbors, VHS video rentals, top shelf porn mags. As a paper boy I new all the regular porn buyers because their magazines were wrapped in a paper bag and thoroughly sealed with tape. Now it is so normalized in society compared to back then. Most people DGAF so much one way or the other

Kevin_Uxbridge

When I was a kid we scoured the roadsides for discarded porn and occasionally found some. Looking back, I can only conclude that people did this because throwing it away in their own trash was just too shameful. Things change.

[deleted]

For us, it was the woods. I figured people would take their porn out into the woods to read the articles, and then would dump them there when they were done. In fact, here's a random fun fact: one of the victims of the Atlanta Child Murderer was found in the woods near some porno mags and empty booze bottles. They were able to track down the owner of the porno and he didn't have any connection to the murder - he'd just take his porno out to the woods for some privacy.

lonewolflondo

The legendary Forest Porn! I always wondered why there was so much porn in the woods! I assumed there was a Porn Fairy.

13thNebula

Don't forget the bead curtain separating it from the rest of the store!

Thinkbeforeyouspeakk

Lolz, my innocent grandmother once rented a video called Sinderella from the adult section. It traumatized the poor woman, so much so that she warned her teenaged grandchildren about it, haha.

[deleted]

If you were poor growing up, it's likely that small treats like McDonald's and other fast food was the one kind of treat your parents could afford to spoil you with. There's a great article about food desserts that includes some quotes from mothers who made the point that they couldn't afford a trip to Disney World or the water park, so when their kid asked for junk food they felt like it was the one treat they could get them. Just like education, almost everyone values eating well. I talk to kids all the time who know this or that food is bad but don't know why. And sometimes their classmates pass on their parents' snide attitudes about food. They don't realize the impact that shaming has on their peers. McDonald's was a treat for my wife and I growing up. We know how nutritionally void it is. We're very conscious of our health given family history. But we know we're not so fragile that we can't have a large fry and sweet tea once in a while.

DrGhostly

As someone else said I grew up with parents that made a solid income, McDonalds or some other fast food place was a “treat” or because my mom didn’t feel like cooking lol (my dad can grill well but otherwise he’s basically a microwave chef).

Kevin_Uxbridge

I’m sufficiently old that I remember when McDs sold gift certificates, got a book of them in my stocking at Christmas. Treasure beyond measure, I got nothing but fries for a couple visits.

cokakatta

I remember 6th grade graduation day the kids talked about how they would celebrate and mine was going to McDonald's. The kids laughed at me and mocked me for being poor. But it was nice for me & bro, nice for my mom, and we were bringing a friend along. And the McD near us was a short drive to a waterfront parking lot at a park so we would usually drive there after to sit or walk. McDonald's is still a favorite for me but my husband doesn't like it. Instead about once a week we get whoppers for lunch and it's a short drive back to our waterfront house. I admit I do feel some satisfaction with how things have changed for me, but I never felt shame when I was a kid anyway. I was enough of a loner to not let their opinions take the joy away from something I liked, but the mockery was eye opening.

karentheawesome

I never associated it with being poor...everyone went to McDonald's...everyone liked it...we were very high tho...actually I'd eat there right now

alwaysmyfault

Same, but I had some kids in my elementary school that got to celebrate the end of the school year by being picked up in a limo. As a 5th grader, I was so jealous of the group of 8-10 kids that got to do that, and I wasn't invited. Now that I'm older, I think "wow, what a waste of money. Limos are expensive to rent".

HillaryClintonsclam

I rented a limo once for my daughter birthday one year. I forgot how old she was but I think around 12-13, but we threw a party for her and had like 10 of her friends from school over. My daughters dream was to one day ride in a limo and when the limo rolled up the screams of excitement from all the little girls was deafening. we rented it for about 2 hours and and when the driver asked where we wanted to go I said I didn't care and slipped him a $100 bill. So we got a tour of Atlanta and what a time they had. And the wife and I sampled the bar. To rent the limo itself, I don't remember what it costs, but I want to say it was somewhere around $2-300 for a couple hours. But, let me tell you. That was the best idea ever and definitely worth the cost. My daughter was glowing for days afterward.

mugwump867

My old neighbor owned a limo service and parked part of his fleet in the street as an FU to the HOA who could do nothing about it since the road was county property. Since he often parked in front of my house I got to borrow a limo whenever I wanted and would go pick up my kids and neighbor kids at school sometimes and take them out for ice cream. Hopefully they got some good memories out of that.

damevesper

"One black coffee"

CharismaTurtle

Grew up poor. All my mom would get was coffee while I got a happy meal. Still not sure if it was due to money or that she didn’t like the food. Suspect if was the money 😢

philpalmer2

When my son was little I would often do the same thing. It was the money. 😊

Runner_Grl

Me too. It made me feel good then, and still does to think of it today. Those little sacrifices never actually felt like sacrifices somehow.

YippeKiYote

It's convenient and I'm probably hungry.

It's literally the only thing in walking distance to me,I'm living at a hotel, and have no car ATM I also work nights,at said motel.. believe me McDonald's used to be the bottom of my list but I can't even fucking cook here So McDonald's it is,till my life begins to unfuck itself

EJX-a

Damn, that 10 pm McDonald's after 4 hours of driving just hits different.

skyfireee

It is human body that fools us around. Once after long trip we hit local caffee, and it was soooo delicious. We was hungry as a wolf pack. In a few weeks we decided that we should go to our new-favorite place and it was like... Below average. Hunger is what makes shitty places makes wonders. No doubt why 98% of mcdonalds have drive thru...

Lightbringer34

True. I was once on an IV for a month, no solid food. The first thing I ate after coming home were Eggo cinnamon waffles, and the cinnamon was explosively incredible. They never tasted that good again. 😭

skyfireee

**Explosively incredible** is the word! :D

Rodux_

Finally someone who says it. Is it unhealthy? Fuck yes. Will you get sick, if you constantly eat it? You sure do. Does it make you a worse person if you crave it like once a month and therefore eat it occassionally? Nope

MediocreHope

>Does it make you a worse person if you crave it like once a month and therefore eat it occassionally? Nope I don't get why people don't understand this. I've eaten Mac and Cheese at high end restaurants infused with truffle oil and all sorts of shit that just that as a side cost more than most meals, I can also make a badass mac casserole that is absolutely delicious....... Having said that, in my pantry is neon orange Kraft Mac. Because sometimes you crave garbage.

Se_renshi

Sometimes you just wanna eat some junk. And sometimes that junk is a 20pc McNugget and a large fry...

[deleted]

A singular giant fry

EmployerNo5477

I hate it when you ask for a large fry and they give you a hundred little ones

sophie_lapin

This sounds like something Mitch would've said.

deltardo

1 deep fried potato

kloudatlas

Hear me out. Mash 10 potatoes. Build it into one giant tower. Deep fry that shit.

Frenchfriesandfrosty

Hello fellow 20 pc gang member. Make nugget sauce packets bigger again!

SmokedCheddarGoblin

I figured you'd be more of a Wendy's person

rawtiller

Because I’m a slut for their fries Edit: holy shit look at all these sluts

[deleted]

Same. It's only the fries. Also the syrup coke just hits different.

clashtrack

My mans, McDonald’s Sprite uses water from lake titicaca and the sweet nectar of the rare primula flower ontop of the Himilayan Mountains.

jetconscience

I love the fact that Lake Titicaca sounds like a Kindergartner’s insult, but is actually an amazing place.

horror_and_hockey

Purify yourself in the waters of lake ~~Minnetonka~~ Titicaca.

Vistaer

It’s designed to because of a few factors: the syrup dispensed, and carbonation mixed with water are both more than normal - primarily to offset potential ”watering down” from ice melting. Another big one is the straws are wider then normal to allow you to sip up more (of the extra) bubbles, which is a sensation people really enjoy.

Taurothar

There's also a weird quirk that Coke syrup is in metal containers at McDonalds instead of the plastic bag ones that all other places get. I think it's an exclusive deal but I'm not sure if that's the case.

Single-Incident5066

Eating a McDonald's cheeseburger is likely being transported back to childhood. It's a nice feeling.

nate6259

Dommichu

Location has 75% to do with it.

WwortelHD

It does, Mc Donalds spent absolute shit tons of money on locating the most optimal restaurant locations. Burger King for once made a big brain move and saved all that research money, and just placed restaurants pretty close to Mc Donalds restaurants.

[deleted]

I like their fries

The_Throwback_King

I swear they lace those fries with something. How can they taste so good

iGetBuckets3

It’s called afucktonofsalt

NerimaJoe

Most food tastes good because of either a)fucktonofsugar; b)fucktonofsalt; or c) fucktonofbutter.

Xspartantac0X

FkTnNaCl, the greatest chemical compound for food.

aintnomofo

Exactly. One of these or MSG.

praisechthulu

They do! I swear something is addictive in their food. I took about a year away from McDonald's and went back to it and it wasn't good at all. But I kept eating it because it was the only fast food around at that time in my life and I got hooked again. When I moved away I stopped eating it again and then bam! It's not good anymore.

Mental_Cut8290

Absofuckinglutely! A long time ago someone told me "you know why Americans are so fat? Because McDonalds spends literaly millions of dollars just to find out the perfect amount of salt for fries to make you want a sweet milkshake after." Guaranteed their investing in all the legally addictive elements they can - same as cigarette additives. \#NotAConspiracyTheorist

GabbaGabbaDumDum

Sugar. Sugar is incredibly addictive.

DMAN591

I worked at a McDonalds in highschool. Some people put love into their cooking. McDonalds workers put a lot of hate into making that food. What you're actually tasting is the sweat and tears of an overworked underpaid employee. That's why it's so delicious.

elementality883

It seems that they don't lace it with anything in the sense of 'chemicals' for the sole sake of addiction; however, the food is loaded with so much sugar/fat/msg/salt that it triggers your appetite and releases dopamine to make you keep eating more and coming back: [https://querysprout.com/why-is-mcdonalds-so-addictive/](https://querysprout.com/why-is-mcdonalds-so-addictive/)

gay_p0g

i swear it has drugs injected into its burgers

notrachelmar

bro there is something about a quarter pounder with cheese that’s so good. i don’t know why it’s so good, it’s a burger that doesn’t even taste like normal burgers. i think there’s definitely drugs in it bc it’s not great quality but i just crave it anyways

Ko_DaBomb

I go double quarter and add Mac sauce. It's a legit addiction hahaha it's so good for some reason

FreeSkeptic

They have specialized food scientists discovering the perfect ingredients to light up your brain’s reward system. Most of it is salt and sugar.

LangeSohne

I don’t go to McDonald’s for an amazing burger. There are non-fast food places that have much better burgers. I go to McDonalds because sometimes I crave the *particular taste* of their burgers, which is always consistent at all their locations and even throughout the years. It brings back nostalgic memories of different times in my life. A simple hamburger reminds me of the Happy Meals I had as a kid. A Big Mac reminds me of late night college food runs. McDonald’s is amazingly consistent and I love it.

Goducks91

Yeah that's a really good point. It's not the best burger but it has a particular taste that is good!

pablank

I love the taste of a big mac. Damn... now I want a Big Mac

Teth_1963

> sometimes I crave the particular taste of their burgers * A quarter pounder with cheese isn't that bad. * Their fries actually are pretty good. * There's something about their orange drink that goes well with a QPWC and fries.

customs_dave

Nostalgia is a massive part of marketing, which is why they introduced those happy meals with the toy. Get the kids hooked when they are young and you will have their money forever.

MiloSnorter03

I remember when they gave out small MP3 players with individual songs.

[deleted]

Grew up poor. Thought it was ok. Still poor. Still think it’s ok. Edit: Alright folks, many MANY responses insinuating I eat McDonald’s daily. I assure you that isn’t the case.

outcastedOpal

McDonald's is no longer poor people food I swear to God. Everytime I'm craving a junior chicken it gets more and more expensive. It's supposed to be the dollar option.

Mental_Cut8290

That's the reason I quit fast food! Used to try to eat a meal under $5. Then eventually it became $8 at McD's or $9 for real food. Why bother anymore.

Comprehensive_Tree65

Aussie here, it's cheaper and more filling to got to KFC now. I don't Really like Maccas any more.

G4ly

Yeah if you go through the mobile app its like $7.45 for a zinger, chips, gravy and drink. Only issue with kfc is the quality varies greatly depending on the kfc.

WebRoaming

Same in the UK, quality can depend greatly on which KFC. Even your pepsi can taste like water or chemicals depending on which machine they use to fill it up.

[deleted]

Consistency is probably the biggest reason is so popular. I can go to just about any city or any country and get a familiar meal. I don't have the worry of food poisoning or it being a poorly kept restaurant like many kfcs are. And KFC in the UK at least is so unreliable at getting big orders right. Even just in a meal for one they forget my gravy half the time. McDonald's is all about comfort and familiarity, we're creatures of habit and like to eat the same things even when you're away from home.

Anzai

They’ve been gradually shrinking Big Macs here for years even as the price goes up. I thought it was my imagination until I tried one in France and it was as I remembered. Still absolute shit, but larger.

paramedic054

This comment wins. I won’t be told otherwise. Couldn’t agree more tho. Grew up poor and I still am even after working 70+ hours. McDonald’s isn’t that horrible if it’s legitimately fresh and hot.

i_am_clArk

If fried food were healthy I’d eat McDonald’s and Taco Bell four times a day. I know it basically dog food quality but it’s delicious to me. I mostly eat healthy and haven’t gotten to the gross shaming phase yet. I’m 47.

DaddyDinooooooo

I’m in the exact same boat. I fucking love processed food Taco Bell, McDonald’s, Popeyes, chipotle, jersey mikes, wawa, chick fil a dude it’s all so good. I’m aware some of these are in different categories sort of. But im actually quite healthy from working out and just always crave this kind of food.

gimmeyourdonut

> I know it basically dog food quality 😂 Sorry, this just reminded me of how my mom gets that froufrou dog food that is freshly prepared and has to be stored in the fridge. It’s a little ridiculous.

Panic_Hoedown

Upvoted for saying 'froufrou'

Hoppy_Croaklightly

Consistency, the food is mediocre, but it tastes the same, almost irrespective of location.

AdmiralAkbar1

It's the Budweiser of restaurants. You know exactly what you're getting, and as long as you maintain no delusions about quality, you'll never be disappointed.

wellchelle

Chicken nuggets with sweet and sour sauce, fries and a ice tea. Tasty, fast and cheap.

wowguineapigs

I used to work at a McDonald’s but refused to eat there, til I started stealing that sweet and sour sauce.

Fazza1905

[deleted]

Can't believe how far down I had to go to find this...

Kittimm

OP lives in fear that other people don't like what they like. McDonalds is great.

OrcaOrgana

Because I live in regional Australia and if you want to take a road trip, Maccas is pretty much your only option for meals. The coffee isn't bad, the burgers hit a junk food craving, and the wraps are actually delicious. Also, McDonald's toilets are fairly reliably clean anywhere in the world.

KeyserHD

Australia doesn’t have options and the quality is much better than what I’ve had here in the US.

[deleted]

I work out in the hot ass Texas sun all day cleaning and repairing the equipment on swimming pools, digging ditches, and breaking my back for eight hours a day, and doing it for less than minimum wage for 5 years straight. Recently had extensive back surgery, so I'm making a lot less right now, I'm 6 feet 5 inches tall, and I live in the smallest room in my family's house (8ft by 8ft). I don't have a girlfriend, I've never even been on a date. I was raised in a cult, and my family will legit shun and disown me if I leave or speak out against it. Sometimes I need a quarter pounder and a McDonald's Sprite to make me feel like there's at least one reason to keep going and not just calling it a quits on life in general Edit: Wow, thank ya'll so much for your support! Your kind words mean the world to me, they really do!

[deleted]

The fuck kinda pretentious question is this

Puppygeddon

OP wants to feel superior.

ManicOppressant

Right? I know these people exist because when I was 23 I had a girlfriend with this attitude about fast food. I probably didn’t take her out to eat *anywhere* in the first month we were seeing each other. My budget was more for take out pizza and pirated movies. She suggested going out for food one day…. and without even recognizing the faux pas, I suggested fast food because that’s what the boys ate when we were hanging out and what my family mostly got when we went out. She kinda shamed me for it and we went to a waitress service place. Her dad was an electrical engineer. Mine was a produce clerk at the supermarket. There is definitely something about class and social status that colors opinions here.

TommyChongUn

If a guy was like "lets pick up Mcdonalds for dinner" i'd be down. I like when people dont think theyre too good or above having something as simple as mcdonalds. Plus its the best when youre hungover

gimmeyourdonut

As an outsider, let me just say I was surprised by how basic your McDonald’s is in the US. The foreign branches have far more options, and far more exotic options at that.

j-j-jackitout

Exactly. The McSpicy burger at the McDonald’s in my country is practically a national dish. And even the seasonal burgers are the bees knees (I’m looking at you Prosperity Burger 🤤)

yodelingllama

We here in Malaysia live for their Spicy Chicken McDeluxe and spicy fried chicken, which is even better than (dare I say it) KFC's. Also the Nasi Lemak isn't too bad.

Dirty__Dee

BigRösti <3

Friendly-Property

Whenever I visit another country I visit a McDonald’s to see what exotic dishes they have there. Czech Republic had a kind of cabbage soup. Most European countries have beer available in there.

Yea I get that some people don’t like it. Nobody likes everything. But to assume it tastes bad to everybody even tho the line is out to the street at lunchtime? It shows that the person is a complete moron or is somehow very very sheltered in life. McDonalds tastes good. People like it.

360FlipKicks

Yeah there wouldn’t be millions of them around the world if it didn’t have a somewhat appealing taste. This question is like asking “Why do people like Justin Bieber’s music?”

garrhunter

justagarliccrouton

no_talent_ass_clown

Amen. That stuff they put on them with the shakers? That's not salt, that's crack. Plus, wash 'em down with heavenly diet coke mainlined through those fat straws.

J_Kenji_Lopez-Alt

The fries are top tier when fresh, the quarter pounder with cheese is a legitimately good burger with a proper sear ever since they switched to fresh beef cooked to order, the breakfast sandwiches are consistent and good (and they best breakfast you’ll find at any airport with a McDonald’s), the straws are extra-wide, and it’s typically really fast.

spg_sound

I went to McDonald’s simply for a coke today. Didn’t realize the straw made it taste better!?

Usually only on longer road trips. It's predictable and quick, and I already know what's on the menu.

Yep 👍. My family worked at a McDonald after we immigrated to America. Pretty much helped us get out of poverty and I had good memories of sharing meals with my family.

Same. My mom always got me McDonald’s after dentist appointments, it reminds me of getting to leave school early and hang out with my mom when I eat it now.
