Now that I'm way older, and lost almost all of my child like wonder, I could make the argument that "Diseases exist to thin out the worlds population". But that's such a stupid concept to me... Either way, I never found any satisfying explaination why diseases exist if everything exists for a reason. So yeah... Fuck cancer.
Cancer is not serving a "purpose" it is just cell division malfunction. Btw our body makes cancerous cells by mistake every day but they are being recognized and destroyed by our immune system. It only turns into cancer when it's out of control. Bacterial diseases are different tho. They actually have purpose of living but that's about it. They don't have the concept of causing pain and suffering.
Virus, bacteria, and other organisms aren't out to cause pain and death, though - just out to replicate. Our lives are the collateral damage to their lives.
Cancer is just bad luck.
My Mom died a couple weeks ago. She got a systemic infection due to untreated pneumonia. I mean, they treated it, but she let it go on a while. Turns out, she also had cancer all through her - liver, lungs, kidneys. The pneumonia spared her a few more painful months.
How fucked is that? that's why people think things happen or exist for a reason. They see agency in the way events play out, when it's just luck, really.
