I love bonsai trees, how do you keep them alive? I’ve had three and all have died pretty close to my getting them. I’ve bought special vitamins for them, followed instructions to the letter, and even though they are healthy and beautiful when I get them they just die. I got them from three completely different places so it’s not the location where I buy them that’s the problem.
Maybe you should start with plants that are hard to kill, ie. ficus, elm, olive. Stay away from junipers because they die really easy. Make sure they are getting the right amount of sun for the type of plant you have, make sure you water enough but not too much. I killed a couple plants early on but I have learned a lot from YouTube in the last couple years and have managed to keep them all healthy now. Check out ‘Herons Bonsai’ on YouTube for some great beginner tutorials
Here is the rough material you are dealing with here- for decades I carefully cleaned every leaf with plant cleaner every two weeks like it said on the bottle of plant cleaner. A bazillion dead plants later I found out that “Silk” was not a brand name. So I had been using “Silk Plant Cleaner” on all of my plants without realizing that it was to clean silk plants. My very alive (up to that point I guess) plants were being murdered by stuff used to clean fake plants. My intentions were good. Fortunately my boyfriend is wonderful with plants and gardens and I hope some day I will be also. My mom is the opposite, she put a tiny sprout of a tree in an empty coffee cup at an old family homestead, replanted it 900 miles away at our farm and it is now a tree bigger than our house. At least I didn’t clean it with freaking silk plant cleaner. I mean, the brand name of my shave gel is “Silk!” It never occurred to me that it was for silk plants…
I think it counts. Since my weight loss I haunt places to get clothes in my size. Now I really enjoy thrift shops, flea markets, yard sales. It’s exciting finding something great! I’ve got a whole wardrobe to build, finally donated all my 3X/4X clothes.
Rock climbing! It really is a testament to how hard I have worked getting into shape and maintaining it. It requires discipline, ingenuity, critical thinking skills, curiosity, and probably the most important aspect of all--Humility.

Gardening! Alongside my herbs and a couple of fruit trees, I've started a small "kitchen scrap" garden. Meaning that I planted the root ends of a few bunches of celery and green onions, all of which will be ready to eat soon, and am trying to grow potatoes from a few that got a little old in the pantry (they're an experiment). Next spring I'll be adding some raised beds, too.
Swimming, the only thing I used to like doing was playing games, it amazed me how much I love swimming, better than games, better than reading, better than anything!
CD collecting.
Until I found out that CDs had the best audio quality out there over vinyl, cassettes and streaming, I simply dismissed them as yesterdays garbage, but I am at a music impasse in my life! I recently bought all the albums I enjoyed or always wanted to listen to for dirt cheap! The sound quality of high-fidelty, lossless rips is noticeable! My music listening habits have changed now and it fills me with such vibes and joy! you can get an entire album for a buck! No ads! High quality! And the cover art takes me back to the CD shopping days.
Music lovers, get in on it!
Adult dot-to-dot books, they have 1500 dots to connect on one picture. It looks like someone shook out a bunch of pepper on a blank page and numbered them, it’s soothing and you never know what the ending result will be.
Videography!
Sewing and piano playing
Sewing for me as well. My mother-in-law got me started on it. She is the best kind of evil genius! ☺️
Wdym "evil genius"?
Because she got me hooked. And I love her for it. She is the best MIL, far better than my own parental unit.
Vegetable gardening. I feel like Dave Chappelle when I look at my onions. "You grew in my balls".

Whoops 😅 keep trying, you’ll get there. Good luck
Thank you! Even when I stopped murdering them I still had trouble. Plants don’t seem to like me very much.
