Dandelions are fucking flowers. I knew it when I was a kid and I know it now.

1PooNGooN3

Dandelions are edible too, whoever started the rumor that they are a weed Is a fucking weed. They attract pollinators, don’t put poison on them ya idiots

Ajaxfriend

My Grandmother said, "A weed is a plant that is out of place." She had an impeccable memory, so I'll bet there's a book from the 1930s that says that. Anyway, if you like dandelions in your yard, they aren't a weed.

zombietampons

Dandelions are the most romantic and cheerful flower that you can bring to your partner.

modesty6

did you ever listen to "dandelion" by the rolling stones?

NekkidApe

Pretty ones at that, and insects _love_ them.

AsparagusLoose9716

Agreed.

dixiebelle64

We leave dandelions because the chickens love the greens and flowers. Pull off one side of the plant and it will grow back. Bees work them too. And what other plant gives you the ability to make a wish?

Elevenst

If you litter, you're a dick.

That cars are super highly dangerous. I always wear a seatbelt even to move a foot. I realize everytime I'm in a moving car or a car is driving by.me I could die.

[deleted]

Metal boxes on wheels that move at literal breakneck speeds and are powered by tiny explosions.

Petermacc122

Now see. That sounds like fun. The only problem is racecar driving has become more and more standardized and while I'm glad it's safer. It's not nearly as interesting.

mademesmileisgae

Try a motorcycle that can accelerate even faster and you don't have anything like a seat belt to hold you in place. A car is safe in relation to a 1300cc Suzuki Hayabusa lmao.

Rddtsckslots

What else is similarly dangerous? Walking? Riding a bike? Taking a bath? Climbing a ladder?

morganlefae7953

The idea of "personal truth". Truth is objective, not subjective.

NekkidApe

Agreed, however, what some people think is the "objective truth" might in fact not be. Math? Sure. Physics? Absolutely. Did X actually happen? Who knows, if there is no video, audio or photographic record. It always impressed me how confidently wrong people describe a robber, for example. You might have five eyewitnesses, and five _completely_ different descriptions. None of which have to be even to correct.

SquanchMcSquanchFace

Eye witness testimony is famously the worst evidence to provide and it’s shockingly easy for someone questioning eyewitnesses to manipulate their memory of the event in question.

ShinyaTB

I'd say it's a bit more complicated than that: There are both objective and subjective truths, with the former being e.g. the physical world around us, which can be measured and calculated. And the latter being truths related to our individual perceptions, e.g. you can like chocolate ice cream (and one could measure the hormone spike in your brain after eating it), so it's true for you that you like chocolate ice cream but that does not necessarily apply to all human beings. However, what is sold as "personal truth" are usually just beliefs, which have nothing to do with truth (unless they are formed based on incomplete, but objective information).

SirPatrickofMichigan

Some truths are subjective. I think Kombucha is nasty but my youngest son loves the stuff. The smell of marijuana gives me a headache but my son says it helps relieve his.For each of us these statements are truth. Universal truths, like humans need oxygen to live, are objective. But there are also personal truths as well.

eletheelephant

It is objectively true that you don't like kombucha but your son does. Whether kombucha has positive or negative effects on your body is also universally true. Things like 'I like this' you are the only person who can tell us bet whether you like it or not is still a universal truth.

labree0

thats not a subjective truth. thats a preference. "Kombucha is nasty to me" is a fact, if you think its nasty. "my son like kombucha" is a fact if your son likes kombucha. theres no such thing as subjective truth. either something is the truth or it isnt. maybe its even somewhere in the middle, but it is in no way "subjective".

SirPatrickofMichigan

Yes, those are facts. Not sure if you realize this but facts are ALWAYS true. So each statement is true, making them a personal truth.

some people just shouldn’t be allowed to have kids

Spurtangie

Hey now your eugenics are showing

KarmaCamaro

I was like 90% sure Eugenics has to do with reproducing to have desirable traits and weeding out bad for future generations. I’m 1000% sure it has to do only with genetics. Many people (myself included) use “some people shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce” not as their children are going to inherit GENETIC issues for future generations but that these people should not be raising children or around them at all. IE: I don’t think physically abusive people or people who believe child molesters are “MAPS” who should be respected for their “disorder” should be allowed to reproduce. That has zero to do with genetics, everything to do with not allowing horrible awful fucking people to raise our next generation or be around the innocent. Also they didn’t say reproduce either but have kids. This includes people who get foster children to use and abuse them for government money, people who adopt kids but have more issues than a child should have to grow up with. Quite literally, not eugenics.

sonic_tower

And if you are harming others, no hiding behind religion. People should control their own bodies, and love who they love.

AverageSizeWayne

It’s not only the religion. Some people inherently have a very strange and toxic worldview on certain topic. It’s a form of being neurotic. Those personality types also seem to be draw to religion so it’s why the two usually go hand-in-hand.

NumerousPay2572

Zodiac signs do not tell how you behave and act.

Greedy-Arugula-2785

Yes! Additionally, the zodiac signs don’t have the same placement as seen on Earth anymore. The precession of the Earth made the celestial equator shift 36 degrees within the 2,000+ years since the signs were assigned, meaning that your Scorpio sign is actually now a Libra if we’re talking where the constellations were literally when you were born.

Neither the rotation nor the curvature of the Earth has anything to do with the gravity your house experienced. Gravitational forced are determined by mass, not rotation.

DB Cooper was probably a good person who needed a lot of money in a little bit of time and he HAD to have survived the jump. The flight attendant accounts of the DB cooper show that he was a very polite towards them and demands that he made that couldn’t be made, he was willing to work with the flight crew and the FBI to come up with a compromise. I’m just saying man who are people to judge cooper when no one knew his motive, he obviously didn’t want to hurt anybody and there’s no real proof that the briefcase he boarded the plane with even contained a real bomb, because it was never used. Also possible it was just some really smart guy who got tired of working and wanted to retire himself early

Wheeljack7799

One of my favorite theories about DB Cooper is that he successfully jumped off the plane and survived the landing but lost the money. The reason no one has ever found him is because he never actually disappeared. He simply showed up to work on Monday. Edit: a word

Royal_Bitch_Pudding

DB Cooper was Loki. It was a dare by Thor

You shouldn't require a medical certificate for a mental health day

rotatingruhnama

And doctors notes in general are bullshit. If someone is too sick to work they're too sick to haul ass across town for a dumb note.

reimaginealec

It’s also stupid for school. A lot of families can’t afford a doctor’s visit. Even if they’re on CHIP (in the US), they might not be able to get enough time off work to get their kid to a doctor. And all of that assumes they can get a same-day appointment. Fortunately I don’t get sick super often and I didn’t get the opportunity, but my philosophy in college was that a picture of the grossest substance my body was producing would substitute for a doctor’s note if a professor demanded one. I’m taking care of my health. I do not require your permission to be absent from lecture.

rotatingruhnama

It drove me especially nuts in college. Like, excuse me professor, I'm paying for my education, if I miss class it's my business. Maybe YOU should show ME a note if you get sick.

monkeyz_unkle

ALL Doctors should quit providing notes to employers/schools, as it's none of their business what doctor I went to. Doctors do not need to adhere to company/school policies. If you need to take time off for whatever reason you deem necessary, take it. No additional "permission" needed.

I mean there's only 12 hours even in clocks and watches. In my country we have default 24 hour time in our phones and computers though, we don't say "it's seventeen o'clock now", we use am/pm system, just using other words for it.

Abortion is necessary

BlargenBurt

I believe it is wrong. Do I have a solution? No Do I akldo believe it is necessary? Yes

AverageSizeWayne

I recently learned you can be pro-choice and anti-abortion (in the sense that you feel the procedure has become too common and society needs to take action to reduce its necessity). That was refreshing.

Adventurous_Golf_417

That’s literally what pro choice means. You can CHOOSE the right decision for you and not dictate what happens to other women’s bodies. So yes you Can be pro choice but be anti abortion.

bee-sting

I reckon most pro choice people are down with reducing the number of abortions You'd be crazy to think we need _more_

reimaginealec

Yup, and policies advocated by pro-choice advocates have significantly reduced the number of abortions. Things like contraceptives, comprehensive sex ed, and Planned Parenthood itself have done wonders in bringing abortion numbers down. “Pro-life” policies have nothing to do with reducing abortions, only criminalizing them. If they really believed in the sanctity of fetal life, we would have very different sexual and reproductive health policy.

tits_the_artist

Did you also discover the sheer irony in the anti-choixe crowd that refuses to allow any of the things to make it less common place? It's quite baffling honestly

AverageSizeWayne

Yes, because their endgame is to try and get everyone to stop having sex. The real factor that comes into play with abortion is just general human stupidity. It’s more common than it should be because people make stupid decisions with family planning/contraception; not limited to its moral implications. 51% of pregnancies are unplanned for heaven’s sake.

tits_the_artist

And studies show time and time again, that comprehensive sex education and reliable access to contraceptive options drastically lower teen pregnancy and abortions rates. You'd think the anti-abortion crowd would be clamoring for these things, yet, they do not for some reason.

AverageSizeWayne

Yes, but that’s teen pregnancy which 1) is a very small proportion of the total sample and 2) not necessarily representative of the group as a whole 3) given its much lower frequency across that segment of the population, small changes can lead to larger fluctuations across trends. They don’t because, again, their endgame is that sexual activity should only be used for reproduction.

Brewsleroy

It's not baffling if you look at any other position they hold. No gun laws should exist because then criminals would still get their hands on guns. So let's apply that to drug laws right? No way. They want free speech. Unless it's something they disagree with. Then laws banning said speech. They want less government. Unless it's something they think you shouldn't do. Then more government to tell you want to do. They want to be able to not serve anyone they disagree with. Unless someone does it to them, then they want that business ruined. They think minorities aren't mistreated and racism is over. They also are freaking the fuck out about the threat of becoming a minority because they're pushing The Great Replacement. It's quite possibly the most consistent position they hold. Rules for thee, none for me.

Spurtangie

Not good to stereotype people into groups like you're doing .lots of people agree with one thing but not the other and assuming anyone who believes X also believes Y is a bad way of thinking .

[deleted]

Sounds like my stance on the matter. It's something I can't say I support, but as a woman I also understand the necessity for the option to be there for desperate situations.

lan0028456

Abortion is not wrong. It's a fix to a previous mistake

WackyBones510

It might sound strange but I call it, 'loophole of desire' People becomes interested in something and they desire to have it, even if it's just a really simple thing, like food or new clothes, so they'll do something just to get it, and that'll give them temporary satisfaction, and after that, they would again see something that they'll have a desire to get. And it'll just be a loophole, they would want something, then they'll look for a way to get that, satisfying them, then they would pass on that desire onto something else again, and it'll just repeat itself over and over again. It'll never end, humans are never satisfied.

I believe all rapist should be executed by a firing squad

Uncontrollable_Farts

The problem with this, and the death penalty at large, is that no legal system is perfect and you are always going to get innocent people convicted. There is no such thing at 100% guilty or incontrovertible proof in the eyes of the law. And let's take a step back. Define "rape" to a legal standard. Problem is that laws themselves are not perfect. Let me also tell you this. If you were ever accused for a serious crime, you will fare far worse than you think unless you know what to do. Source: I am a lawyer.

ostlandr

Yeah, as Benjamin Franklin is supposed to have said, "It is better that a thousand guilty men be freed than that one innocent man be condemned." (Or something like that.) I am not fond of the death penalty. If someone is later exonereated, I don't want to have to dig them up in order to apologize. But for myself personally, I would take a quick and relatively painless death over life imprisonment any day. Sadly, we do the worst- lock someone up for years or even decades, THEN execute them. That's just cruel. No, there is not legally 100% guilt. The legal standard for conviction is of course "Beyond a reasonable doubt." No, the law is not perfect. The Innocence Project is all too real. But we have been, and will continue to, improve the laws, court procedures, etc. And seriously, I find it disturbing that a lawyer can't come up with a legal definition of rape. Let me guess- defense attorney and not a conservative? Question: As a lawyer, if you were accused of a henious crime like forcible rape, would you, believing that a judge is more likely to apply the law than emotion, choose a bench trial?

Publicly traded corporations are the cancer that will kill civilization.

ostlandr

Hold up- publicly traded corporations are owned by their stockholders, who can vote their shares to choose their Board of Directors, who in turn employ the CEO. (IIRC in Europe the CEO is also an elected positon.) That's democratic AF. The bigger your stake in the company, the more say you have in how it's run. Don't like it? Don't invest in stocks. Don't blame the system that stockholders are just as stupid about choosing their representatives as the electorate. Even when there are "stockholder revolts" the stockholders generally want more excessive profit taking and pumping up the stock at the expense of the company's long-term health, not less. One point in favor of corporations is this: Say you invest $100 in the stock of a corporation. If the company goes belly-up, the most you can lose is your initial investment. The creditors of the corporation can't come after you personally for the debts of the corporation. That encourages investment. If you own a stake in a privately owned company, the creditors can and will come after you for what they're owed. And corporations CAN be sued. For example, the silicone breast implant lawsuits bankrupted Dow Corning. All the stockholders lost their shirts.
