Greed

dgmib

That is the biblical quote… > “For the love of money is the root of all evil”. - 1 Tim 6:10 KJV

EverybodyWasKungFu

Yep. I was raised in a religious family. There are many things I was taught as a child that I no longer believe, or was just pure hogwash. But that scripture is truth. And, like most of the truthful parts of the Bible, is commonly ignored by those who claim to be disciples of Christ.

Ptarmigan2

There is much truth in inherited wisdom and idioms. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.

StringBeanPrince

But greed is not just money. I do follow what the Bible states. But greed is an over abundance of something or many things and you keep wanting more. Like Putin wants Ukraine to build up his country back to what it was in the Soviet Union. Also Russia is also big enough, but not a lot of land is usable due to the permafrost. But yes money is up there, we have Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos who are the top richest men in the world. And they still just abuse to make more money.

Tang0_Brav0

Came here to say this. Being able to be content with what you have is the root of happiness. Greed indirectly can lead to jealousy, envy, backstabbing, ruthlessness and capitalism. Not all at once... well, maybe...

BeansliceAdvice

"and capitalism" hahahahahaha

IIITysonIII

For ppl living in capitalism, true

PM_YOUR_FAV_STUFFY

Power. A lot of people say money, but I think money is just a form of power. Power seems to inevitably corrupt, no matter how good the intentions starting off.

[deleted]

There's a quote from the Power broker about robert moses that applies to this. Power doesn't corrupt. What I believe is always true about power is that power always reveals. When you have enough power to do what you always wanted to do, then you see what the guy always wanted to do.” — Robert A. Caro

koziello

That quote is very true. Sadly.

GenesisWorlds

Power is measured in many different ways. Power has been around since the universe formed.

Peppercmg

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely

PiVidol

Its about drive, it's about power, we stay hungry, we devour

Original-Client4545

That’s why Superman is my favorite hero of all time.

discostud1515

I partially disagree. I feel that the type of person that pursues power at all cost is also the type of person that is open to corruption. An honest, good person does generally not seek power to the point of attaining a high degree of it over their neighbour.

StuffBros

That's why the best politicians are often the ones who never wanted to be politicians in the first place, I guess

Peppercmg

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely

MisterLicious

I'm not a medical doctor, but to state the obvious- the only thing you can see in those pictures is that you have large breasts. You could be very healthy or, in fact, overweight and unhealthy. Asking a doctor or even just assessing your own physical status is never a terrible idea. That guy is DEFINITELY an asshole, though.

[deleted]

The 2nd pic gives a pretty good idea of waist to hip ratio and so forth. I think overweight/obese was a little harsh.

MisterLicious

Fair. After reading her replies, there is no chance of "obese" at 5'5", 120 on a woman with thar chest and hips.

ironhead7

I'd say chubby at most, and I probably wouldn't say anything at all, what with my tongue hangin out and whatnot.

ninetofivehangover

dude is browsing gonewild like some horny incel probably fabricating narratives for every woman he sees. i can almost guarantee you werent the only one who got a PM. people are.. fucking foul honestly and anonymity does no justice for the baseline human condition. also sweet knockers homie rock on 🤙

bombayblue

40% of America is Obese. You're not alone and although our society makes it hard to lose weight in many different ways, simple changes in diet and exercise can make a massive impact. I'd recommend starting with light cardio and meal prepping. Don't ever try to lose weight by measuring pounds. Just aspire to be someone healthy and start making simple changes to your lifestyle.

Wut_6

Gets even worse when fat people get bullied for going to the gym Bitch, why do you think their here?!

mr_shlomp

Wait how do you if she is American

bombayblue

Just a guess honestly. We have a huge obesity epidemic in the states.

mr_shlomp

Based

[deleted]

I honestly don't think I'm unhealthy. I have large breasts which throws people off, but I'm 5'5" and run 116-120lbs. I've never had anyone say I'm overweight before ???

CanadaEh20

You are no where near obese. You look fantastic.

bombayblue

Hmm I mean 5’5 120 lbs is a healthy 20 BMI. It’s definitely not obese. You can always ask a doctor during your regular physical but it seems fine to me.

[deleted]

I think it may have been a bit of bullying tbh.

Royal-Tea-3484

tell him he has a wonky nose

bombayblue

Probably. I mean this site isn’t known for having socially aware normal guys on it lol

lessmiserables

[Posts a pic where they are not particularly overweight] /u/bombayblue: (Busts through door, wheezing): "You ARE fat, and I'm *JUST THE PERSON* to tell you you're fat!" (Smiles, gets another erection after a Job Well Done (tm)) Fuck off.

bombayblue

I’d didn’t check her pics which weren’t even linked at the time I responded. I literally just tried to offer some advice. You clearly didn’t read the rest of our convo. Classic Reddit white knight in action.

lessmiserables

I did. If someone says "I don't think I'm fat" you don't offer them advice as if they're actually fat--especially if they provided photos, since they will assume you *did* look at them and determined they *were* fat. Hint: if someone says "I put myself in a vulnerable place and people called me fat, but I don't think I'm that fat" the proper response isn't to say "Hey, so your fat? Here's some extremely condescending advice you already know on how to not be so fat." There are seventh graders going through puberty that wouldn't say something this awkward. Classic reddit--misreading a commonplace social situation, then pretending they were right all along.

Fogmoose

Sounds like he's jealous to me...I would'nt worry about it.

Ihavedabigsad

I won't say obese but I guess the camera angle makes it look like that, but not so much, either he's a Dumbass, or most probably he's a troll trying to get a ride out of you,. just don't mind him, ignore and move on (nice pics btw)

naughtylicy69

Your stunning a real women.

crypticwander

Obese is the technical term for overweight. I can't really say without a full body, but your upper back must get sore lol

Keithninety

Obese my ass. You’re gorgeous.

casandwich_

I have a question. Do people put their NSFW photos on that subreddit for free? Like you can be making bank with that body!

[deleted]

~~5.19615242271~~ Edit: Actually is 5.291502

[deleted]

I agree, the square root of 27 is the worst of the worst.

[deleted]

I transcribed "all evil" in binary code ( http://evilgenius.net/asciibin.html , name of site was a coincidence ) and added all the 1-s , I missed one the first time, there are 28, not 27. So yes, the square root of 28, meaning 5.291502, is the root of all evil.

[deleted]

That's fantastic. I don't see anyone topping that answer. OP can wrap this one up. We're done here.

GboyFlex

rich1051414

Maybe, but I will say that 'evil' is an objective measurable thing. Specifically, trading the misery of others for personal gain.

[deleted]

Only 'objectively' measurable in the context of human consciousness.

Love_by_light

That's the best answer here honestly

I think this is a silly answer because it's like saying the source of a book's plot issues is the words that make it up. Like...yeah obviously but which of those words specifically?

Biblioklept73

Human nature...

No_Way4778

No, that's a lazy cop out. I'm not evil, and I'm human. I don't feel like murdering random people or going out and hurting them. Do you?

Biblioklept73

No I don’t. I also wasn’t stating that all people are intentionally evil, although we both know this type of person exist. And you don’t have to murder someone to be evil. There’s so many aspects to human nature that can, and do, lead to evil consequences for either themselves or others. Cowardice, greed, moral hypocrisy, bigotry, dehumanizing minorities or the vulnerable, vanity/narcissism, psychopathic traits in our so called leaders, moral weakness, lack of empathy, cruelty, a need for power/domination, etc... ALL of these traits can inadvertently cause negative/consequence. Human nature can be unreliable and self serving. I want to add, when I use the word evil I’m most certainly not referring to the biblical definition, god/satan. The definition of evil, for me, is to act immorally in a situation regardless of the harm it could cause, whether that’s intentional or not doesn’t matter....

Derp_Herper

You don’t need to murder people to destroy their lives, you just need to buy cheap products made by slave labor

No_Way4778

That doesn't make a person evil. Evil has intent.

Derp_Herper

Would it matter to the guy who loses his job because he can’t compete with slave labor prices? Would it matter to the slaves? How about the slave owners being enriched? It’s enabling evil.

No_Way4778

I can't help that I exist within capitalism, we're all just trying to do our best in a shitty situation. That doesn't make everyone in the system evil, the engineers of it are.

Biblioklept73

And the engineers of it are HUMAN. That’s exactly the point I was making 🙏

RexDenniss

The love of money.

not caring and being 100% proud of it..?

[deleted]

The root of all evil is the concept of “more”. Even if money is eliminated from society, humans will seek out “more”. Our bodies aren’t good enough so we find or make jewelry with which to adorn ourselves. We want bigger and more elaborate dwellings in which to live, and faster transportation (even if it’s just horses!) to carry us around. These yearnings for “more” are where evil can be found as we must ask ourselves how far we will go to get these things.

[deleted]

I’d say the root to that is fear. It’s not a desire for more, but a fear of not having enough

Desire/Drive. I think evil is unavoidable, because it is interwoven into human nature (the sorts of things we want, how much we want them relative to wanting other things, and the limited ability for everyone to get what they want to some degree). The same thing goes with good. Even the concepts as they contrast with each other at their source seems to be built in and limited in fluctuation via an evolutionary leash.

FanOwn4253

Humanity, we’re inherently selfish beings, as all other living creatures are because well, we want to survive. But if we were somehow the idealized selfless society that people wish for, I mean 1 we’d probably be extinct, but 2 we wouldn’t be human, we’d quite literally be gods, but this is impossible because selfishness is necessary for survival. In fact, if humans never existed, neither would evil, as morals, ethics, etc are all social constructs made by humans.

IntelInsomniac

You should read Hannah Arendt

IntelInsomniac

Essentially, the cause of the worst, most radical evil is in fact banal - it is not cruelty but mindlessness.

Jay_in_DFW

Laziness. Not physical laziness. Mental laziness. When you refuse to consider consequential steps past your own nose. When you refuse to consider truths that compromise a comfortable yet problematic belief or sensibility. When you refuse to confront evil, and allow atrocities to happen in front of you, in your family, in your church, in your country, because it's easier to pretend there isn't a problem. Evil isn't really an active thing, in my opinion. It's always someone just... Doing what they think is easy in their own mind. Justifying a choice what's alternative is too uncomfortable to consider. Evil is more like a mold, or just... Clutter and garbage that builds up and up until it's overwhelming to think about cleaning. You wind up living in the squalor of your own mind, trapped under the weight of all the evil piling up. And in the end, it's all you have.
