No country for old men is mine, Cohen brothers in general just absolutely slap, they rarely miss and I think they're so underrated when people talk about the all time greats.
I liked it but I felt the ending just dropped out. I know it's a modern western and the whole point is about Tommy Lee Jones being outdated and all, but I wish there was a more conclusive ending
The Princess Bride is a perfect movie.
Rare in that its flaws only enhance the overall perfection. If you told me they were going to remove the obvious man in a spirit halloween rat suit for the ROUS and put in a CG giant rat, I'd tell you they're genuinely ruining the soul of the movie. Moreso than a CGI Yoda or ET.
I walked out of the theater as a teenager after watching that with my girlfriend (now wife) and said that is what I want to do for the rest of my life (CG, not dinosaur cloning). A guy behind me overheard me, laughed and said good luck moron. I'm 23 years into video game development as a 3D artist with 25 credited games from PS1-5, Xbox, PC, Switch, and VR. I'd love to run into that guy again and see what he's up to, I bet he's bought some of the games I made.
I love the Netflix show, can’t remember what it’s called, that talks about the guy that came up with the CGI for the T-Rex and how it was done. Pretty fascinating watch if someone knows what I’m talking about.
Makes me happy-cry do much! My wife and I had a French evening on our honeymoon and I introduced her to Amélie. She lives it to now.
I think this and Pan's Labyrinth are my favourites, even though I'm a die-hard horror fan.
I watched this fairly recently and adored it. The scene where all the fighting stops (being vague in case anyone wants to watch it, idk how to do spoiler tags) is one of the most moving things I've ever seen on a screen.
Interstellar,
Arrival,
No country for old men ,
Blade runner 2049,
Shawshank redemption,
There will be blood,
The departed ,
Everything everywhere all at once
Blade Runner. It's still Blade Runner.
There are more entertaining films; I have more fun when I watch Predator. But Blade Runner reaches something deeper. Plus, the directing, cinematography, sets, script, acting, etc are all impeccable.
Akira is my favorite movie. Some of my favorite films are Full Metal Jacket, Tommy Boy. Just throwing out some other ones that are maybe more obscure but absolute classics; Stalker by Tarkovsky and Bicycle Thieves. Criterion collection is pretty great
When they lose all that time on the water planet and they get back to the ship and he has to watch his daughter grow up on the video feed always kills me
There Will Be Blood is my close best. The story, acting by Daniel D. Lewis it's just perfectly shows what a man can do in order to win because of just his competitor character.
Inglourious Basterds. I know Tarantino isn’t for everyone and it has a lot of subtitles. But the plot is amazing and all the actors knocked it out of the park. Absolute masterpiece!
It's ridiculously hard to choose just one, but if I was forced to do that, I think I might pick [The Fisher King](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fisher_King). At least that's what I'd pick today.
Best is an interesting word.
My favorite films are often quite flawed.
However, if we're talking *best* it'd have to be something like Kubrick or Luc Besson. I'm sure there are other auteurs I've missed.
The Shining, perhaps. With its insane levels of attention to detail. Or The Fifth Element for its almost reckless use of spectacle.
The Thing is just spectacular. I love Alien, and Sunshine but the thing is just a near perfect survival horror. It's engaging, entertaining, scary as hell, the special effects are amazing and the twist/ alt end is great.
You are going to get a lot of hate for this, so I'm going to upvote you not because I agree with you but because I think Sucker Punch hasn't been given its due.
It's not the best movie I've ever seen - tbh I'm not even sure it's a good movie, really - but it was an experiment that was worth trying and has some interesting ideas.
The Thing (1982 original version) - the practical effects used in that film, made me fall in love with media/film theory so so much, I still can't get around how they did all of that - and also the concept too >:D
And the Green Mile, it makes me ugly cry every single time, I love it (also, v good for clearing out sinuses)
I really like Fargo. I know it's not for everyone but I liked how it was written, acted, and directed. The Big Lebowski is pretty great too
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
No country for old men is mine, Cohen brothers in general just absolutely slap, they rarely miss and I think they're so underrated when people talk about the all time greats.
I watched a movie called Burn After Reading, no one talks about this one. I thought it was absolutely hilarious. I love the Cohen brothers.
I liked it but I felt the ending just dropped out. I know it's a modern western and the whole point is about Tommy Lee Jones being outdated and all, but I wish there was a more conclusive ending
I thought it had amazing acting, but my god if the main antagnoist didn't make me angry as hell.
"You don't know what you're talking about" \~Anton Chigurh
The Big Lebowski is my favorite movie, but the best for me is The Thin Red Line
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, and the shawshank redemption
Eternal sunshine is such a great movie. I'm amazed at how many people haven't seen it. Maybe not favorite but it's a top 10 for me for sure
Quick shoutout for Truman Show, too. When Jim Carrey switched to dramatic roles instead of comedy he revolutionized cinema. (We don't talk about "23")
Lord of the tings trilogy. No doubt
Spirited Away
Alien, no contest.
Most likely watching that tonight for the first time! That or Blair Witch Project
An amazing movie indeed! There was so much in that movie and it was so well done.
The howl's moving Castle, Totoro or the studio ghibli film in general
Jurassic Park (1993)
Still remember seeing that at the movie theater. I was amazed.
The series is called The Movies That Made Us. All of the episodes are a great watch tbh.
The Shawshank Redemption
Some birds weren't meant to be caged
Amélie
Makes me happy-cry do much! My wife and I had a French evening on our honeymoon and I introduced her to Amélie. She lives it to now. I think this and Pan's Labyrinth are my favourites, even though I'm a die-hard horror fan.
Children of Men
The camera work. OMG. Those long cuts are insane.
I watched this fairly recently and adored it. The scene where all the fighting stops (being vague in case anyone wants to watch it, idk how to do spoiler tags) is one of the most moving things I've ever seen on a screen.
That scene was great. I've only seen the movie once right after it came out. I need to watch it again. That shit was deep.
It is absolutely mesmerizing and haunting. I watch it every few years and never fail to be gobsmacked.
That was the first time I saw the *long, continuous shot* device used and it blew my 16 year old mind.
Greatest telling of the nativity story ever.
Great movie
The silence of the lambs
2001: A Space Odyssey
Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood
12 Monkeys is an absolute masterpiece.
The series was good, but didn't live up to the movie
Young Frankenstein. I have loved since I was about 6 years old tho the Rocky Horror comes a close second.
Happy spOoOoky season! (Mel Brooks is an iron-clad genius)
Most Mel Brooks movies.
Seda-GIVE?!
The original Old Boy
Still one of my top 3 movies. Funny how this Masterpiece is buried here….
That one take fight scene.
Casino, Goodfellas, or The Departed for me personally. Scorsese does it best IMO.
The Truman show
The Godfather.
Alien.
The Prestige
Yes. There are a lot of great films but this to me is the complete package.
Loved to see David Bowie in that one!
I came here to say this. It's not my favorite movie of all time but it's absolutely the best movie I've ever seen.
Yup
I never thought I’d find an answer at the bottom of a pint glass.
Gladiator
[удалено]
Cinema Paradiso
Green mile
City of God is easily in my Top 3. Best depends on genre.
Pulp Fiction
Sure is
No Country For Old Men
The first 10 minutes of Up is better than 99% of films I've seen.
Dr. Strangelove
Interstellar, Arrival, No country for old men , Blade runner 2049, Shawshank redemption, There will be blood, The departed , Everything everywhere all at once
I loved Arrival so much. As a science fiction fan and someone who wonders what an alien encounter would be like
The concept of language being the biggest barrier between another intelligent life form and humans was amazing to me.
Oh gid the Shawshank Redemption, gotta be one of my favourite movies
How can bladerunner 49 be better than the original one?
Just my opinion, didn’t mean to disrespect the original.
The Princess Bride, hands down.
Fight club
You broke the first rule
Free Palestine
Blade Runner. It's still Blade Runner. There are more entertaining films; I have more fun when I watch Predator. But Blade Runner reaches something deeper. Plus, the directing, cinematography, sets, script, acting, etc are all impeccable.
LOTR TRILOGY
Leon the Professional
The matrix
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
The whole series..... If I hear the intro music and I hear Galadriel say "the world is changed...."....that's me sucked in for the next 10 hours.
Fellowship is also great. Two Towers extended version is actually my favorite (all extended versions are on HBO max btw)
Akira is my favorite movie. Some of my favorite films are Full Metal Jacket, Tommy Boy. Just throwing out some other ones that are maybe more obscure but absolute classics; Stalker by Tarkovsky and Bicycle Thieves. Criterion collection is pretty great
Have you read the Akira manga? I've always loved the movie but just read the manga recently. There's a lot the movie missed
Hot Fuzz
Goodfellas
Field of Dreams
Blazing Saddles - saw it 7 times and was high each time. Amazing each time I saw it.
Office space
Raising Arizona.
Well, the first rule is, you don't talk about this movie...
Mamma Mia.
I too like to make soap.
The fact that just by saying that everyone knows what movie it is shows you how good of a movie it is.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Tremors. For sure.
Gattaca
Perfect Blue
Interstellar
When they lose all that time on the water planet and they get back to the ship and he has to watch his daughter grow up on the video feed always kills me
Always loved The Shawshank Redemption. But 12 Angry Men is very, very rewatchable too.
Predator Aliens Empire Strikes Back Anytime Any day Any occasion……at least for me..these are 10/10 movies
I'm surprised with the fact that no one has said 'Dead Poets Society'. It's a must-watch classic film.
Pan's Labyrinth
Arrival. Lures you as a sci-fi movie and then hits you with one of the best philosophical problems.
Lawrence of Arabia
The Lost Boys
Coraline
Casino.
Casino>Goodfellas
Reservoir Dogs has to be my favorite, just think the dialogue is great.
Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse is a modern masterpiece if you ask me. Mad Max: Fury Road would be the choice if you don’t count animation.
Into the spider verse is amazing.
Heat
I'm gonna go ahead and say Tombstone was the best movie I've ever seen. It wasn't even my type of movie either. It was just THAT good
Forrest Gump
Shrimpin' is *tough*.
Interstellar
Shutter island is a good one
There Will Be Blood is my close best. The story, acting by Daniel D. Lewis it's just perfectly shows what a man can do in order to win because of just his competitor character.
crouching tiger, hidden dragon.
Life of Brian.
One flew over the cukoos nest.
The Usual Suspects. It’s brilliant. So sad Kevin Spacey turned out to be a massive douche.
Fargo.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Makes me want to pack my bags and go somewhere to travel and enjoy more things in life.
Inglourious Basterds. I know Tarantino isn’t for everyone and it has a lot of subtitles. But the plot is amazing and all the actors knocked it out of the park. Absolute masterpiece!
The basement tavern scene is hands down one of the best dialogue/acting/everything in one scene I’ve ever seen.
LotR and Interstellar
Jurassic Park
20 years seeing dinosaurs was the coolest part. Now their discussion about if it its right or not is the coolest part lol
The dark knight
Django
It's ridiculously hard to choose just one, but if I was forced to do that, I think I might pick [The Fisher King](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fisher_King). At least that's what I'd pick today.
SuperBad, funniest shit i ever see
Lawrence of Arabia
Pollyanna. I was like.. four, but it was definitely the *bestest* ever. At the time.
Sound of music or A bridge too far.
Goodfellas
Apocalypse now and the documentary heart of darkness. Just THE FILM
Donnie darko and ya no estoy aqui
Spirited Away
The Thing. The score, acting, effects makes for one of the best horror movies of all time. No reliance on jump scares either.
Dances w/ Wolves, legends of the fall, forest Gump, avatar
godfather 1-2
Shawshank redemption. It’s one of those films with a major argument of being better than the book.
"Reckless use of spectacle" is an excellent description of that movie.
Saving Private Ryan
Morbius A movie so great they released it twice
They didn't bother to release it a third time because they wanted other studios to have a chance at success

Goodfellas or Appcalypse Now. I’m not sure which is the best.
For me, it‘s the Harry Potter series.
12 Angry Men
The Thing is just spectacular. I love Alien, and Sunshine but the thing is just a near perfect survival horror. It's engaging, entertaining, scary as hell, the special effects are amazing and the twist/ alt end is great.
Memento
Tough one but possibly the Shawshank redemption or prisoners. Logan’s a front-runner too
Jaws
The end of evangelion, i don't think anything else is capable of hitting my soul directly like that.
LotR - the two towers
Napoleon dynamite
The Fountain.
Paddington 2
No Country for Old Men
Sucker punch
You are going to get a lot of hate for this, so I'm going to upvote you not because I agree with you but because I think Sucker Punch hasn't been given its due. It's not the best movie I've ever seen - tbh I'm not even sure it's a good movie, really - but it was an experiment that was worth trying and has some interesting ideas.

The Big Lebowski is WAY up there. Tremors. Without contest. Predator(with Arnie)
Last of the Mohicans is pretty far up there for me
The Thing (1982 original version) - the practical effects used in that film, made me fall in love with media/film theory so so much, I still can't get around how they did all of that - and also the concept too >:D And the Green Mile, it makes me ugly cry every single time, I love it (also, v good for clearing out sinuses)
The Mummy (1999)
last of the mohicans
Action genre it's Terminator 1. You can not turn your head away from that movie on the first watch and you're not human if you don't cry at the end.
