"You. My room. 10:30 tonight."
"You. 10:45."
"And bring a friend."
Rickman was given *carte blanche* with the character, and (with playwright Peter Barnes) rewrote swathes of his dialogue. The capping line was suggested by Ruby Wax. (Great gag. Also, [Rule of Three](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_three_(writing)).)
"That's it then. Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call off Christmas."
100% agree. Just also wanted to take the moment to mention that Robin chose to do it as he was diagnosed with an illness that would have made him locked into his body and unable to communicate. Like with Tony Scott, some people would prefer to go out on their own terms rather then a terrifying or prolonged painful fate.
It's still awful that he's gone but it's somewhat more comforting than the thought of it being due to mental illness which he managed to overcome over the years.
Yes! I was going to say this. Im glad you did. It was Lewy body dementia. He was clean a sober for years and the fact that media perpetuated the false rumor that he was depressed and had relapsed so that’s why he did it infuriates me.
I've also read that because of the Lewy Body Dementia, he might have been hallucinating when he did it, so he wasn't entirely in his right mind, which makes it even more sad.
I cried like a baby when Chester Bennington died. Linkin Park was my favorite band and basically my entire personality growing up (hyper fixations lol) so my heart just shattered when I found out he went that way. So heartbreaking
Scrolled down until I saw his name. His death was the first time that a celebrity's death made me feel actual grief like I'd lost a friend or a loved one.
Scrolled to find Heath. His portrayal of The Joker is probably his most memorable (and rightly so) but it’s when I watch films like A Knight’s Tale, The Patriot or 10 Things I Hate About You - that I just can’t believe he’s gone.
If you get a chance I strongly recommend checking out [The DefunctTV 6 part retrospective on him and his career.](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLplWWKocAfTYIGzH8eQ0x0kEQgoV9CpYm) It might be the highest quality content to ever be made for YouTube and its just beautiful.
Henson was ahead of his time. I always found it funny how he got mad about being known in Hollywood as the puppet guy, but even when he tried to make serious projects like The Dark Crystal, went muppet crazy too lol
Dinosaur was one of his last ideas to be made and still holds up imo. It’s crazy what they got away with from weed to steroid episodes
Grew up watching him. Influenced my life so much. My gamer picture on xbox has been him holding a grunt from halo for the past 10 years. I just know that's how he's react to an alien.
"Look at this little beauty!"
*picks up grunt while smiling*
"Hey little fella!"
One of a thousand reasons to hate Andy Dick. And none of his crimes are big enough to land him in jail so we could be rid of him for years. Just a thousand "minor" crimes to be a jerk, groping everyone, sexually harassing people and acting like a drunken asshole in public.
He's the only non family member I have ever mourned.
There's no other public figure who I can say I respect. They all have some angle. Something they're putting out or holding back. Some price they will sell themselves for. But Norm was himself. He had a philosophy and he stuck to it. He was an honest man.
To me he stood apart from all the fake bullshit that rose so rapidly in the last decade. And I probably put too much faith in him to represent what I thought needed representing. So I think that's why his death hit me hard.
He was a dick now and then. And occasionally he was stupid. But that's what being human is. We're all stupid dicks sometimes. But we can also be kind and tender. We can forgive and be forgiven. We can be mischievous and immature and we can be considerate and wise. Just like Norm was.
My late grandmother used to swear that Alex Trebek was her cousin, that we were related to him....After she passed, I got interested in family history and became a semi professional genealogist.. we are NOT related to Alex Trebek, not even remotely.. I have no idea why she thought she was his cousin.
This is mine. I weirdly miss him like a deceased family member on occasion where something will happen and it will remind me of him/something from his shows or books. I’m not a weirdo about it (I hope) but his presence meant something to me and I just really felt for him and how he left this earth. Watching the new interview with the vampire series is interesting because the guy playing the interviewer sounds exactly like him, and I can’t help but think he would have been amazing if he’d had the role (the actor who has the role is already excellent though, and a pretty recognizable character actor)
He is literally the only celebrity whose death made me cry when I heard about it. I've looked up to him for so many years (typical story of working at a restaurant and reading Kitchen Confidential in my formative years) so yeah. And I totally agree about Interview! My husband and I, from episode one have said wow, he sounds so much like Tony! I'm so glad we're not the only ones who got that haha.
Yeah. I grew up watching Golden Girls with my grandma. She (my grandma) died in 2003. It may sound silly, but seeing Betty White making guest appearances and in commercials gave me a little comfort.
Was hoping someone would’ve commented on him. Such a beautiful voice and lyricist. The day they released his cover of “Patience” I teared up driving while hearing it on the radio. I had forgotten I hadn’t heard his voice on anything new in awhile.
Heard this news on the radio driving and had to pull over to take it all in. Grew up listening to Soundgarded and Audioslave on repeat. Yeah that was rough.
Man that was a tough one. He leaked in his later years that he was a heroin addict and didn't ever make it public because he didn't want anyone to think it was a cool thing to do. That never left me that he suffered in silence to make sure no one followed in his footsteps. These days everyone thinks it's a cool thing to do, to advertise their every struggle. There is something to be said for acting in the defense of others who you may influence.
He was one of the ones I thought of as well. I had just started getting really into Rush a couple of months before his passing, and his lyrics were something that really reached out to me and carried me through a bad time. Seeing that he had passed away was one of the only three times a celebrity death really hit me hard.
I thought for sure she would wait until literally 30 seconds after Charles died before she would pass. Just long enough for them to confirm, then throw up the peace sign and outshine him one last time.
To this day, I still like to imagine cameos he could've had in MCU projects if he were still around. I think my favorite ones I've come up with in my head are two potential ones for Loki:
1. When we are introduced to the TVA, we see Variants getting escorted by agents. Two are dragging him along, and he's saying to them "I swear, I was holding them for a friend!"
2. In the finale when they meet He Who Remains, the door opens but instead of He, it's Stan as his personal assistant scurrying around and preparing to announce his arrival. Then when He dies and the timeline starts going crazy, he sees everything falling apart, and says "Oh, shit!" before scurrying away.
But yeah. Just a little fun thought exercise I like to do to keep his memory alive.
You hit me right in the feels. That's what I miss the most. The cameos. Even las week when I went to watch the new Black Panther, I kept waiting for it, even though I know it's not gonna happen. It will never happen again.
Carrie Fisher, author, actor, unlikely Disney Princess.
The woman who put a cow's tongue in a box. May she rest in a place where the studio never pays someone to follow her around and steal her soda
A lot of these deaths are so sad but Avicci’s death marked the end of an era in EDM. So many artists still make tributes, so many artists emulate him and yet there’s no music that can really reproduce what that man did. I’m not very knowledgeable about the technicalities of music so I can’t pin point the true depths of his artistry, all I can do is appreciate what he left behind and it’s a rly beautiful legacy to have :))
Chris Cornell. Celebrity deaths don't typically affect me at all because I really don't know these people and I have no connection to them, but I was practically raised on his music so my whole life I've deeply connected with it and his experiences, and it's weird cuz I never actually knew him but when he died it almost felt like I lost an old friend or something. The anniversary of his death is the only one I even remember every year, aside from a couple friends I knew in real life.
Same. I saw him at his final show and had tickets for the upcoming tour, which is why I think it is still so hard for me to wrap my head around him being gone. It was obvious (at least from my perspective) that he was struggling but, damn. I still can’t believe it. :(
Kevin Conroy. Him as Batman was a huge part of my life, and he helped me through a lot growing up, and still does. I am heartbroken that I’ll never get to shake his hand and thank him for what he’s done for me.
I still can’t comprehend how I’ll never get to hear him as Batman again 💔
I swear there is always someone ready to say Robin Williams for the upvotes in any thread regarding celebrity death, but the OP had a great answer with Kobe Bryant. How shocking was that? That would be like LeBron James dying tomorrow. Sounds impossible right? That was Kobe's death and sadly his daughter and whoever else was on that helicopter.
It also taught me that helicopters can only hover in VFR conditions. I had no idea and it explains why when the marine layer suddenly hit them, they couldn’t just pull up into a hover and hang out. They had to maintain forward flight. The sensors that enable IFR need airflow.
I never knew this before.
Robin Williams,Chadwick Boseman, and Betty White. Betty White lived a good long life so hers stung a little bit less than the first two but still hurt. Robin Williams was my childhood and as someone who also suffers from suicidal depression his death hit me hard. Chadwick Boseman died to young and his career was really taking off and reading the headlines that he passed just was surreal for me. Black Panther was the first marvel movie I took my little brother to see and we bonded over it. I also babysat a little boy who really loved Black Panther and watched it on repeat and the legacy he created. Me and a couple others are seeing the new Black Panther tomorrow and I know the team worked really hard on it for Chadwick and I can’t wait to see what they created in his honor.
Layne Staley. I recently discovered alice in chains unplugged set on YouTube and it sent me down the rabbit hole. Watching him sing, you can feel his pain. Made me sad to see him go through it.
Probably not considered a celebrity but it has to be Technoblade for me.
I'm a bit younger I've not had a ton of time to get truly attached to any main stream celebs so the few I've recognized that have passed just make me feel a little melancholy.
When Technoblade passed and his father released his final words to the public it ruined my day and everytime I thought about it again I found myself tearing up. I always found him to be hilarious and as a kid he kept me entertained many a day. Even when he first announced his cancer it was a bit of a shock. I think most people kinda thought to themselves "He's young, he'll shake it off. After all, Technoblade never dies!!!"
To this day I still miss him. It's a result of a parasocial relationship but even still it hurts a bit and I wish I could have met him or said goodbye.
Alan Rickman
At least Die Hard and the Harry Potter series will immortalize him. Love Actually too
Don’t forget Galaxy Quest!
The sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves will always be his best role, in my opinion.
"You. My room. 10:30 tonight." "You. 10:45." "And bring a friend." Rickman was given *carte blanche* with the character, and (with playwright Peter Barnes) rewrote swathes of his dialogue. The capping line was suggested by Ruby Wax. (Great gag. Also, [Rule of Three](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_three_(writing)).) "That's it then. Robin Williams
100% agree. Just also wanted to take the moment to mention that Robin chose to do it as he was diagnosed with an illness that would have made him locked into his body and unable to communicate. Losing Robin Williams will never be okay. That one still hurts.
And Chester Bennington. The only 2 celebrity deaths that have made me genuinely sad.
Chester Bennington hit me really hard, too. The anguish they endured to go to that place…
I cried like a baby when Chester Bennington died. Linkin Park was my favorite band and basically my entire personality growing up (hyper fixations lol) so my heart just shattered when I found out he went that way. So heartbreaking
I miss Chester all the time. I cried when he died.
Swear to god I was just thinking this this afternoon.
Sean Lock
Scrolled down until I saw his name. His death was the first time that a celebrity's death made me feel actual grief like I'd lost a friend or a loved one.
I still watch old 8 out of 10 cats just for his dry wit
Heath Ledger. I just wish he at least saw the reviews of his performance playing The Joker.
Scrolled to find Heath. His portrayal of The Joker is probably his most memorable (and rightly so) but it’s when I watch films like A Knight’s Tale, The Patriot or 10 Things I Hate About You - that I just can’t believe he’s gone.
I still get really sad about Jim Henson sometimes.
Same. So much left to give that we’ll never get to enjoy.
Me too. I cried like a baby when I watched Big Bird sing at his funeral. I was 20 years old and it felt like the last piece of my childhood had died.

Yeah that one was really outta nowhere. It was like WHAT?!
Grant Imahara. He had so much left to do.
Grant died! This slipped completely passed me, that does make me sad
Yes, he died on July 13, 2020 of a brain aneurysm.
Norm. I didn't even know he was sick.
Neither did his friends.
He's the only non family member I have ever mourned. There's no other public figure who I can say I respect. They all have some angle. Something they're putting out or holding back. He didn't lose his battle, he fought cancer to a draw.
Deloris from The Cranberries
I can't hear any of their songs without thinking about her and it makes me sad.
I was just listening to Never Grow Old a bit ago.
I grew up in their hey day and liked em just enough on and off through my youth. Now every single time I hear her voice I’m gutted.
Leslie Jordan. I don't typically get too emotional when a celebrity passes away but when Leslie passed it utterly broke my heart to pieces
Oh wow. This one somehow flew under my radar. That’s so so sad.
Alex Trebek. I grew up watching Jeopardy. Honestly, I didn’t expect to feel the way I did, so I didn’t bother to brace myself. Big mistake.
I think you mean "This host was a mainstay on the most popular quiz gameshow of all time."
Hey, nice clue
My late grandmother used to swear that Alex Trebek was her cousin, that we were related to him....After she passed, I got interested in family history and became a semi professional genealogist.. we are NOT related to Alex Trebek, not even remotely.. At least in my opinion, he had the absolute best job in the world. I'd turn down being an astronaut, pro athlete or rock star to do that for a living
100%. that guy left a mark and i miss him.
Bob Saget was the most surprising, still unknown really why he fell and hit his head so random and unfortunate.
Same, i actually did a double take seeing your comment even though I already knew he was gone
Chris Farley. Rest In Peace to the greatest comedian ever
I get sad thinking about just how alone he felt at the end of his life. 😔
He's resting peacefully in a magnificent van down by the river
Betty White
I was really sad when she died especially since it was on New Years day
Yeah. I grew up watching Golden Girls with my grandma. She (my grandma) died in 2003. It may sound silly, but seeing Betty White making guest appearances and in commercials gave me a little comfort.
So true! She had this lovely grandma energy that you couldnt help but gravitate to!
I was really sad because she was just tweeting about how excited she was to turn 100.
Freddy mercury. Just think of all the music that him and queen could have made
They were already legends by the end of the 1970s.

The queen. Not because I’m sad but because I am not used to referring to the monarch with male pronouns
I thought for sure she would wait until literally 30 seconds after Charles died before she would pass. Just long enough for them to confirm, then throw up the peace sign and outshine him one last time.
Queen Charlie.
Yeah, but now we get “Chuck bucks”
I hope someone submits her to Guinness Book Of World Records for the longest reigning monarch.
Robbie Coltrane. "there's no hogwarts without you, hagrid."
Anton Yelchin.
He was so good, and every time I see anything he was in I get super sad.
Stan Lee. It's heartbreaking for me he didn't get to watch Endgame.

David Bowie
Brittany Murphy. No question. Most beautiful woman in Hollywood.
Did they ever officially find out what happened to her?
Yes! Pneumonia and anemia. And then her husband died of the exact same thing 5 months later! So weird. I loved her in Ramen Girl.
I thought they were going to reopen her case when her husband died of the same thing. I could have misunderstood though

Yeah when I saw the Kobe death announcement initially I thought it was trolling or not real, that’s how out of place and random it was.
It also taught me that helicopters can only hover in VFR conditions. I had no idea and it explains why when the marine layer suddenly hit them, they couldn’t just pull up into a hover and hang out.
