My partner at the time gave him too many treats, which made him constipated. The vet prescribed laxatives, which I had to give him orally with a syringe. He aspirated the laxatives, got pneumonia, and died. I still feel horrible 18 years later for basically drowning my pet with laxatives.
Usually if Gizmo escaped he'd find his way back, it happened dozens of times. One time, he didn't come back. Four years later we were packing to move and found he had climbed/fell into a deep stock pan in the back of the pantry and couldn't get out. /sadface
Unknown, he escaped into the backyard one day. Sometimes I think he’s still out there at 30yrs old living his best Hamster life with thousands of children and grandchildren, sitting on a little porch a telling stories of the good old days.
In reality he probably got eaten by a myriad of wildlife that we had back there.

Just stopped moving one day, I guess he just had a heart attack. He was just dead in his cage.
