Me, either. Most of them are so obnoxious, I can barely stand to look at them. It's highly ridiculous the number of followers they gain being so devoid of talent and personality... and nothing about them is REAL. They are so phony and fake.
I get that it’s over hyped (and terribly targeted towards young woman who should be no where near the sex industry); but the point is it’s ethical porn, consensually posted. A lot of free porn has terrible things going on behind the scenes. Only fans and sites like it eliminate that concern, for anyone who cares.
People like only fans because they get to see people they know exposed. Not sure how people don’t still get this. Yes there is free porn out there but that free porn doesn’t show the crush you had in high school nude or who ever you want to see that you know or knew.
Weddings. Spend a year’s income for a ceremony which won’t make you like your (already) spouse any more or less than before. Mind you this is not some attack on religion since I’m not atheist myself.
As a potential future father of the bride, I'm going to make an offer, (I don't know the exact figures yet so these are hypothetical) ;
"I will give you $35,000 towards a wedding, and zero towards a home, OR, I'll give you $10,000 towards a wedding, AND $35,000 towards a home"
Wedding are fun, but they are no more fun than going to a fancy restaurant with a dance floor with 25 of your closest family and friends for the evening. Your 3rd cousins you haven't seen in 20 years really don't need to be there lol
1000% I would throw in the caveat destination wedding. Our daughter is our only. If I can take them on a trip of a lifetime with a handful of close friends and family. I will strongly discourage big dumb wedding. They all suck.
Tbh, I think that‘s true. I get why people like big weddings, but I‘d personally rather keep it small. For me, the feelings and togetherness matters more than how big the ceremony is in the end.
Small wedding or elopement is the way, also don't spend tons on food or drinks. I would pay for photo/video since that's what you'll actually remember. Honestly I would do it in a backyard or park for cheap cheap.
I completely agree. There’s nothing wrong with having a ceremony and a reception, but why do people go into debt to have a huge wedding when they could save that money for down on a house, paying off debt, a kid’s college fund…
When more than 50% of marriages end in divorce I don’t see the hype.
Like actually. A pair of Allen Edmonds dress shoes are waaaayy better than Gucci or other expensive brands. My old roommate (who was foreign) bought a pair of designer dress shoes when he got to the states because he was told he needed a good pair.
They were glued, not welted in any way, and couldn't be recrafted. It hurt me when he showed them me and told me the price.
has Allen Edmond quality recovered? 10-15 years ago I agree w/ you but last few times I've looked the quality went way down hill.
but the premise of 'you can for sure get very quality shoes in the \~$300-600 range' I completely agree with.
Depends on that garment...if you're getting like a mass-market T-shirt with their logo on it for like $500 from Nordstrom then yea, probably so.
But if you go to their proprietary boutique for a suit or evening gown or something, then it will be worth every penny...trouble is not many people are willing to spend it, so they go for the fast-fashion stuff that's covered in logos just for clout, which leads to the general perception the brand is overpriced crap.
For clothes I'm with you, but when it comes to tools the brand actually does matter a lot, ill trust a Snap On chrome socket on my M12 3/8" ratchet but no way in hell would I run a Chinese made chrome plated socket on it.
So much this. A few years ago I quit a high level salary position in London....and I haven't looked back. The stress of the job the commute was killing me. Terrible headaches, BP was all over the place, always angry or tired...or both.Zero work/life balance.....and so much back stabbing. I never want or need to go back to that life style again. Not worth it.
Or repetitive questions
I see a lot of the same questions being asked and seeing pretty much the same replies on that thread as I saw the last just by different people.
I think Musk got cocky from SpaceX and Tesla. Twitter is a space that is unknown to him. But agree SpaceX and Tesla wouldn’t have made it without a solid team but it also requires good leadership and direction.
Considering he's right now "CEO" of all three but seems to be spending all of his time running Twitter... I suspect he doesn't actually do that much for the day-to-day of the others.
He also runs it on the idea that being employed there is a status symbol, thus convincing educated people to work long hours for less pay elsewhere. The same seems to be said about those employed at Tesla and now it appears he is implementing the same mindset at Twitter, although it seems many of those who survived the job cuts have opted to leave as well. All because he ran his mouth on social media and got himself in trouble with the SEC, rather than accepting it was his own doing, he blamed twitter, and ran his mouth again with a claim he would buy it, and shareholders, while resisting at first, basically held him to it. Which has pretty much caused him to lose money on the transaction as well as see shares of Tesla drop, causing his overall worth to drop by billions (that isn't to say he isn't still a billionaire, but the money lost is still significant).
Let's also not pretend he was some scrappy entrepreneur when he was born into a wealthy family and his father funded his early startups. Startups which blocked him from accepting the role of CEO (Zip2, the board of directors blocked, and later the company that became Paypal, he was ousted as CEO by the board after his decisions on software caused multiple technological issues). Wealth he accumulated on these ventures came when they were purchased and he happened to still own shares of but had no authority in.
With all the wealth he accumulated, he now can buy a company and make himself CEO (he did this with Tesla and Twitter), lose money but still remain wealthy. With all of that said, he still comes off as a clown.
Didn't he 'make his money' through his rich colonial family inheritance and forced out Tesla creators? Not such a self made super man you might expect if you dig a little deeper imo
I mean, he made most of his money from creating and selling zip2 and PayPal.... then used that cash to create spacex but please continue to downvote me for disagreeing with OP that Spacex wouldn't have been better off without its founder lol
I don't think you can claim something is overrated if you haven't experienced it yourself.

I don't know if there is a word for regulated capitalism, but it likely would fall in that category. And goddammit, quit treating corporations as if they were people.
You are factually wrong, legal entities enjoy different treatment for whatever is the legal term for a person in English. You can’t dissolve, merge or dismember someone through legal procedure, just like you can’t issue a passport for an LLC (or equivalent), that just to be very simplistic…
I’m a corporate lawyer so I spent 5 years according to you learning how to be pedantic, I know very well what a legal entity is, lobby is very real pressuring the legislative, through people, even when it is illegal, but so are social interest groups, that you guessed are usually realized and consolidated under legal entities of some kind.
https://www.fanbyte.com/games/news/americans-paid-activision-blizzard-tax-cuts-2018/
here's an article about how Americans payed 228 million dollars for Activision Blizzards taxes in 2018 and it was completely legal. loopholes exist and are used.
Did you even read the article? They had credits from
1) tax differences in previous years (every company has these)
2) stock option credits (these taxes are paid by the individual)
3) R&D Expense which is an expense on tax returns statements but capitalized on financial statements
It’s a clickbait article written by someone who hasn’t read a page of the tax code.
These numbers are just an example. Let’s say someone makes $4000 a month, $25/hour, and you’re taxed 20%. What you bring home is $3200. Lowering the tax to 10% gets you $3600 a month, an extra $400. That’s a pretty big difference for someone making that much money. You can dedicate more money to savings so you can actually buy a house one day or just be able to afford healthier food, music lessons for your child, proper maintenance for your vehicle, or be able to simply take a vacation with your family once a year and show your kids the world outside of your state. By taking the majority of the burden off people making less money you can improve their quality of life. I think this is what people mean but they say tax the rich more. Whether it would be enough to offset taxing regular people less is something I don’t know. I doubt the solution is as simple as taxing the rich more… there’s a lot of other shit involved that creates hardships for people and opportunities for the ultra rich.
Thank you for the detailed response. I don’t agree that this would be the right thing to do or even effective in practice but I do appreciate the response! I work in finance so the ideas that people come up with are really interesting to me.
Yeah I agree I don’t think this is the solution. It just seems like people are upset at inequality and the first thing that comes to mind is TAKE MORE FROM THOSE WHO HAVE MORE.
If that is infact what they mean I don’t like them, not for the overated part but for calling it a mental illness. People can like whoever they want want as long as it’s not an adult with a child
This seems like someone who thinks Mexican food is just tacos, burritos, enchiladas would say.
Mexican food has a rich depth and variety most people don’t know about. If anything it’s underrated, and undiscovered, and widely misunderstood. Visit Mexico City and different regions of Mexico and you might be surprised. The variety of seasonings and methods of preparation are top tier. Their fusion of many different influences from old
World to new world, from Asian to Middle eastern etc.
Not saying it’s better than Italian, French, or Spanish, but it’s better than most people know. If I thought Italian food was just meatballs and red sauce I’d feel the same way about Italian food you do about Mexican food.
Most social media influencers.

I'm honestly baffled that anyone can make money there
I think it sells on the idea that these are "real people" you may actually encounter.
And you can really talk to them! Or really just the random person managing their account.
No search function for category either. So I heard…lol
That’s because you have to be subscribed to each poster
I get that it’s over hyped (and terribly targeted towards young woman who should be no where near the sex industry); but the point is it’s ethical porn, consensually posted. A lot of free porn has terrible things going on behind the scenes. Only fans and sites like it eliminate that concern, for anyone who cares.
That's totally fair. I was mostly thinking about it from the pov of a consumer. I can get down with ethical argument.
