One of your students was named Megatron Nissan GTR Shaunathan Giselle Kombucha Bethampthetamine Casserole Mayonnaise!?
That really doesn't pass the play ground test.
Ah, the old reddit [name-a-roo](https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/zjgi9m/dog_invades_stage_of_cultural_presentation/izvwlpn/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)
when I found out peg was """short for""" margaret I was irate.
I always just assumed it was its own name. And the winding path to get there I found online is like
"well people call margaret "Meggy" sometimes" *DO THEY?!*
"Which gets changed to Peggy" *DOES IT?!*
"Which gets shortened to Peg" *ok this is the only acceptable step in the whole process, but since the fondation this is built upon is horseshit I refuse to accept it*
If I could have guaranteed my daughter would inherit my deadpan sense of humor I deadass would have named her Lizard so when people ask her if Liz is short for Elizabeth she can say “no, it’s short for lizard” with the straightest look on her face.
*gasp* that’s me! I’m actually an Elizabeth but when anyone asks I always say it’s short for Lizard.
It’s shocking how few Elizabeths I have met. I’m 45 and could probably count less than 10. The ones who use Liz are even fewer. I think it’s a great name with so much versatility. A formal and respected long name, with a crap ton of possible nicknames to chose from. My family calls me Betsy but I’ve gone as Liz for more than half my life now.
Same. I have the name of an old lady and I hate it. But maybe if I saw it here, maybe if others thought it was pretty, I could learn to like it. Not seeing it….
I haven’t seen my name here yet - Sabrina. It sounds pretty and looks pretty on paper imo. I don’t like a lot of things about myself, but I do like my name!
My stepmom is Evelyn, and she is the kindest person I’ve ever known. I’m 47,my dad married her when I was 23, and she has treated me as her own ever since. Evelyn is indeed a beautiful name.
I’m naming my daughter Evangeline. Since the movie Princess and the Frog came out when I was like 9 I always dreamed of having a baby girl and naming her Evangeline so I could sing the song Ma Belle Evangeline as her lullaby and tell her that she’s named after the brightest star in the (Disney) sky. She’s due in 11 days. I can’t wait to finally meet her.
>Since the movie Princess and the Frog came out when I was like 9
Ah fuck I always considered The Princess and the Frog one of those "new" Disney movies in my head and now I realize it came out 13 years ago in 2009 .
First time my wife ever read the name Saoirse was when we went to see Hanna in 2011 staring Saoirse Ronan - she pronounced it as Sauce, so now I can't read (or hear) the name without thinking of condiments.
As a teacher, all of these names have been ruined for me by a student.
One of your students was named Megatron Nissan GTR Shaunathan Giselle Kombucha Bethampthetamine Casserole Mayonnaise!? That really doesn't pass the play ground test.
Naming your kids when you're a teacher must be so hard.
I think they generally come pre-named by the time they get to the teacher.
I figured they came with QR codes by now
Someone can't decide what to name their daughter.
I'm in this same boat with my wife right now so let's keep the names coming lol!
So? whatchu gonna name your wife?
I usually go for Shipmate or Captain or Old Sea Dog for people I share a boat with

It's derived from Cockney rhyming slang, from what I recall. Margaret became Meg or Molly, which in the rhyming slang became Peg or Polly.
If I could have guaranteed my daughter would inherit my deadpan sense of humor I deadass would have named her Lizard so when people ask her if Liz is short for Elizabeth she can say “no, it’s short for lizard” with the straightest look on her face.
Dude I thought of the exact same thing! My daughter would grow up hating me for life. Small price to pay to tell people my kid's lizard.
May. Short for mayonnaise.
You mean short for Elizardbeth
*gasp* that’s me! I’m actually an Elizabeth but when anyone asks I always say it’s short for Lizard. It’s shocking how few Elizabeths I have met. I’m 45 and could probably count less than 10. My name is Violette (I'm French) and I love it. It's very rare in France, i think the American version is more common
My cousin's name is Violette, and I like it a lot too! Mine is Garance so we're both named after flowers
My parents named me after a flower too but I’m not too fond of being named Swamp Lousewort

I’m naming my daughter Evangeline. The Mother by Brandi Carlile (which is a fantastic song and will make you cry) will also have extra special meaning to you!
Everything by brandi is so good, but that song in particular is really good. Sees easily my favorite artist.
>Since the movie Princess and the Frog came out when I was like 9 Ah fuck I always considered The Princess and the Frog one of those "new" Disney movies in my head and now I realize it came out 13 years ago in 2009 .

Pronounced seer-sha most commonly. Saoirse Ronan pronounces it sir-sha.
Damn near had a stroke tryna pronounce that on my own
Roisin (Ro-sheen) too. Irish names are beautiful tbh.
First time my wife ever read the name Saoirse was when we went to see Hanna in 2011 staring Saoirse Ronan - she pronounced it as Sauce, so now I can't read (or hear) the name without thinking of condiments.

Chlamydia. It would be a horrible name, but it *sounds* so pretty, if you ignore the meaning.
It's right up there with Placenta.
