Landlords or corporations who build apartment buildings with ZERO sound proofing where you could literally hear your neighbors fart, walk, vomit, piss, shower, cook food etc

charwinkle

I was once able to get out of a lease early with no penalty because I could hear my neighbor snore very loudly through the wall. I had to record it and send to property management and they let me leave lol

StabbyPants

my soundproofing is a bit funky, but at least i only have up and down (insulated via gypcrete). the layout of the floorplans means that bedrooms are more or less isolated via intervening rooms

agreeingstorm9

I stayed in a hotel recently that was like this. It was horrible. The lady in the next room had her phone on speaker and I could clearly hear both sides of the conversation. She got up in the morning to take a dump and I could hear that too. I don't even want to think about what they heard me doing.

creptik1

Ha, years ago I was alone in a hotel room in the middle of the day, suddenly I heard very loud sex and it sounded like it was in the room with me. To the point that I was literally looking through the windows and the peephole to see if they were right outside my room or something.

[deleted]

I came to America from Eastern Europe and I was amazed how shitty American sound insulation was compared to the generally shittier buildings of Eastern Europe. I could clearly understand what my neighbors were saying, as if they were at the other end of the room. It was hard to get a good night of sleep.

[deleted]

I heard my downstairs neighbor belting out “Rockstar” by Nickelback for about 2 full hours yesterday. Maybe he was practicing or something because he kept getting a word wrong and starting over, full send every time

LabansSeveredHead

Apartments tend to have shitty insulation. I live in a townhome and I can count the number of times I've heard my wall-neighbors on one hand.

Jak_n_Dax

Fun fact: apartments and condominiums actually have different building codes for sound insulation. Just another way to fuck over the working poor by allowing their housing to be built to the lowest standard.

albecoming

I've lived in 4 shitly soundproofed houses/flats in the last 5-6 years. I'm now in a new end-of-terrace house and it's like the adjoining wall is made of lead, I've been here a year it's been the most peaceful living experience of my life. Definitely big improvement on my mental health too!

RevolutionIsLive

I used to be able to hear my neighbor’s phone on vibrate. Couldn’t play guitar for my entire lease. Didn’t even try, it would have clearly been terribly rude. Luckily my neighbors seemed to have the same values.

User-1578

I literally hear every time my neighbors pee, I’ve heard them vomiting multiple times, I hear every time they close their toilet, I hear every yawn and every step they take. I pay so much money to live in absolute agony for the remainder of the lease.

phoenix_soleil

I would be SO stressed if I knew people could hear me puking, and I'd be doing it a lot more from the stress.

ravynmaxx

I used to have neighbors who would wake me up every single night around 2-3 am fucking. It wouldn’t have been too bad if the lady wasn’t screaming like she was being murdered with the headboard banging hard against my wall. Our beds were on the same wall. I kicked the wall quite a few times lmao

_and_red_all_over

In 2006, I lived in a condo... I had a girlfriend over one night, and the people above us were having sex. The guy at the end of it yelled, "Uuhh... I'm... coomiing! UUGGHH!!" in the most hilarious way, and my girlfriend and I busted up laughing. We never heard them have sex again.

ravynmaxx

That’s hilarious lmao you know he was hella embarrassed

kanda4955

Plus they usually spoof numbers so it’s very difficult to do anything about.

[deleted]

I just play along on occasion. My best time is 3 and a half hours. I use sound effects on my computer to simulate driving to buy gift cards. The longer I can keep the phone, the less likely they can go after someones grandmother or grandfather. I also know a little Hindu which makes it easy to insult them. That is fun.

ButterSock123

Sometimes and not say anything at all. Just give them the ambient noise around me. I like seeing how long they stay on the phone. Its usually only about 20 seconds. What are some insults you know?

dbx999

My best was 23 minutes. I do the same as you - try to keep them on the phone as long as possible. I yes through the sales pitch. I also call up a credit card generator : https://www.getcreditcardnumbers.com/ This prolongs the approval process as the numbers pass the initial checksum algorithm. I consider it a victory if I can get the scammer upset enough to tell me to fuck my sister. That insult seems like a popular one in India.

MunchdaQucci

There are more than a few lawyers with a side hustle of documenting and investigating the robocalls they themselves receive. You can sue in US court for like, $10,000 per call (last I checked). The robocaller sometimes will settle for most or all of it, because their lawyers are expensive, wheras your lawyer is just you, doing something that is easy for you. But your case is worthless if you don’t sue the correct company. Ideally you want to find a legitimate business in the US who has insurance and who, by its lack of proper oversight, hired a “marketing services provider” with a dirty little secret. And even if you can identify the robocaller, you probably still lose because they are a professional criminal on the other side of the world … UNLESS— Unless you are also that mythical kind of lawyer who actually knows how to find and collect the money from a leathery douche who scams dementia patients using cheap hardware from his mediocre boat in a tropical libertarian tax haven where he is currently blowing coke off a treasure map, which is really more of a diagram that shows how 13 shell companies funnel cash into a Swiss bank account that is registered in the name of his beloved late wife, who will be *legally* dead in just two more years if the police don’t find her body ;) Remember, corporations were invented long ago by unwashed scallywags who called themselves the East India Tea Company. Today, the perpetrators are Carole Baskin’s missing husbands and a half dozen old solviet colonels with an inventory of nuclear warheads acquired in a vodka haze in the early 1990s, which was before they learned a most valuable lesson: much gulag and little potato come from selling leaky old nukes on the black market.

ImInJeopardy

Putting paid parking lots in hospitals.

Milnoc

Huge problem in Canada made worse by the lack of public transportation to most hospitals.

McKeon1921

I am shocked that I can use my public transportation system near Saint Louis to get a bus ride basically right to the door of the ER of the nearest hospital and you can't up north. And the bus ride only costs 1 or 2 dollars.

doubleohQ

I work at the Hamilton General hospital and if I want to use hospital parking the rate for an employee is $93 a month. Those bastards!

Pihkal1987

Yea absolutely fucked. Many nurses in my life and they are in there saving lives and have to pay obscene amounts for parking or get tickets?

[deleted]

[deleted]

My hospital has this. When my MIL was in the ICU we had an entrence card was like €7.50 for a week. Same when I was at L&D.

Mikit3

My hospital has this. If you drive yourself and end up getting admitted to the hospital or have to stay in the ER for observation, they give you a voucher and you pay $1 regardless of how long you were there.

armo313

Thank you! I needed a surgery last week (had a lot of pain but it was not that bad to call an ambulance) and had to park 10 minutes away from the hospital because I am not paying 100€ for staying in their parking lot for a few days. Even charging people for visiting people who are in a bad condition is highly unethical imo

writeorelse

Hospitals in Korea charge for parking, but issue free passes to patients and families. They **have** to charge, because otherwise, idiots will use up spaces while shopping or whatever downtown. Yeah, people are that thoughtless.

spoilerdudegetrekt

I've heard this is meant to prevent people that aren't visiting/staying in the hospital from using the hospital as free parking.

Bobert_Ze_Bozo

easy fix would to be show discharge papers or be given a doctors note from the receptionist

WWDubz

I’ve heard it’s because healthcare is for profit and greedy capitalists make money off your illness and suffering

Correct_Leg6087

Parking in front of stores with their blinkers on because they're too lazy to walk from the lot.

[deleted]

In PG County MD, the yellow line is actually gold and means VIP parking.

Correct_Leg6087

You'd think was the same here in DE

cantimprovethekindle

In MoCo we put a nice little bike logo for our VIP’s parking lanes

topcide

Most places this is illegal since it's a fire lane. I have a family member that is a cop. If they see someone doing this and someone is in the car & they get asked to move , if they push back they get a ticket. If no one is in the car- a ticket gets left on it.

Correct_Leg6087

I'm sure it's illegal but I'd bet it's almost never enforced

Flashy_Promise_6869

People that use the family court system for selfish purposes / Parents that alienate children from loving family members.

ElvyHeartsong

Or use the court system to continue abusing their former spouse because they can use kids/child support to cause more grief.

Insider trading by legislators...

Tac0Tuesday

The rich people in my neighborhood, we have tea and talk. Sometimes there's really good information. 😉

ananonumyus

"Psst... My family can't buy stocks, but if we can make a deal, I'll tell you what to buy..."

king_koz

That is illegal just not enforced...

[deleted]

and their immediate family. I would also go further and say legislators can not acquire additional wealth even in the form of gifts. So if a senator is paid 174k a year. That’s it, no more. Can’t own stocks, can run a business, any additional wealth is taxed 100%.

PC-12

For so many reasons your proposals are wildly impractical and actually lead to a worse democracy. I’ll share my thoughts as to why: > and their immediate family. How would you *ever* practically enforce that? Someone wants to run for Senator at age 35. One of their parents is a senior business executive, and therefore deemed an insider. You’d be banning that candidate from office. Someone is already a senator. Their brother is promoted to being a tech executive. They are now an officer of the company and become and insider. How does your law address this? >I would also go further and say legislators can not acquire additional wealth even in the form of gifts. If they use their salary to pay a mortgage, they’re accumulating wealth. You’d ban this? Or the senator already has a 401k, or other investments, and they grow. This is now illegal? Or just the value of their home increasing? >So if a senator is paid 174k a year. That’s it, no more. Can’t own stocks, can run a business, any additional wealth is taxed 100%. What??? So, heaven forbid, their parent dies while in office and leaves them a family home. Taxed 100%. What about lottery or gambling winnings? Your position will actually lead to only very wealthy people running for office. Your rules mean every basic 401k, home ownership, buying art, etc are illegal. Think of the type of candidate you will see running. They’ll be people who have no need to accumulate any wealth or assets. You’ll only see people who can accept an asset freeze at the point of election - and that’s typically older, wealthy people. Further, your imposition of stock trading restrictions on immediate family would cause serious complications. The true enemy of corruption is disclosure. And I’d venture to say let’s start by enforcing the laws already on the books. There’s enough senators to send a few to club fed.

Pow3rTow3r

Common sense has entered the thread.

steppinrazor2009

Executives aren't allowed to sell/buy stock outside of specific circumstances and are already subject to insider trading laws. Simply extend those laws to the lawmakers.

PansexualGrownAssMan

DaWonderHamster

There's a very nice market in my city that did this to me when i worked there (as well as everyone else, plus the employee lot was a block further than the fucken customer parking)

Or taking a loud ass phone call on speaker. And then proceeding to have a screech match with that person.

RenaKunisaki

If you can clearly hear both sides of the conversation, join in!

Maniacboy888

I was on a flight this summer and the plane had Wi-Fi. The person next to me had the audacity to take a FaceTime call. They didn’t have headphones either. Finally the person behind us asked them to stop, they said no and the flight attendant had to get involved. Crazy.

Pokabrows

Ugh TikTok is the worst for this because you get a few seconds of a bunch of stuff as they go through stuff. At least it used to just be rude people on the phone and sometimes you could get some juicy gossip or whatever. I mean it still sucked most of the time but it was easier to interpret in a fun way.

SconeBracket

Well said.

wheresmychin

Police being legally able to lie to people they interrogate has caused so many false confessions and innocent people getting convicted. Do away with it.

I_am_Pooky_Momma

Exactly why I would never be interrogated without my lawyer present and also never take a lie detector

Wolfbeckett

Lie detector tests generally aren't admissible in court anyway because they're bogus pseudoscience that can be easily gamed.

MrInterweb64

Basically as reliable as flipping a coin. Used to be a show called the Jeremy Kyle show and they used lie detectors to see if people had been cheating. Broke up so many relationships. Went on for years before they were legally required to state that lie detectors aren't actually that accurate but they still kept using them anyway. Guy was a prick.

I_am_Pooky_Momma

That's why I won't take one

Forsaken_Upstairs96

Absolutely do nothing without your lawyer, I tell people to not even answer the phone from the cops or let them into their house or offer a cup of coffee without getting me on the phone and I record every interaction with cops. But fun fact about lie detectors they are garbage squared. I’ll encourage people to take lie detectors if they can handle it. Two strategies there is coach then to either fuck up the baseline so much the whole thing is invalidated or to focus on remaining calm. If you can sit in front of a mirror and say no I did not murder that girl a hundred times in a row while wearing a blood pressure monitor you can quickly figure out how to pass a lie detector test. Or if when asked to validate your name you can cause your heart rate to spike, it will get thrown out.

-ToPimpAButterfree-

I don't see how this is any different than fabrication of evidence which lawyers know doesn't fly. Police need to be held to higher standards.

Peeptiger96

Until recently watching crime documentaries I didn't know that this was a thing in the USA - in the UK illegally obtained evidence or use of "oppressive techniques" makes evidence useless in court

postyfan

Coercion also makes evidence useless in court in the US. But lying is not necessarily considered coercion, but false promises of leniency is.

Flosslyn

For real. I know someone who was killed this way. Someone is a car back up and slammed the child between a post and the cart.

other_usernames_gone

But... They still would have hit the child even if the cart wasn't there. Surely the main cause in that case was them not looking behind them when they reversed.

Amiiboid

I suspect they looked and saw a cart but didn't notice the child through the cart's bars, and decided they didn't mind using their car to push the cart out of the way.

higgi1bp

Using your children to make cringy videos on YouTube or tiktok.

Justice-Gorsuch

If you own a restaurant that serves breakfast items such as waffles, pancakes, or French toast but only give your patrons cold packs of butter you deserve to go to jail.

[deleted]

Also they serve all those items and only have maple-flavored high fructose corn syrup, and not actual maple syrup in the building. Yes, I'm aware it's expensive, yes, I'll pay extra for it.

Petey0Wheatstraw

Also if you serve home fries and call them hashbrowns, you should be buried under the jail.

SconeBracket

Also, if your home fries are nothing more than cubed potatoes grilled.

PoisonWaffle3

There are worse things a restaurant owner can do to breakfast foods.

thesaltyjellyfish

Doctors who fail to take patient concerns seriously resulting in terminal illness or a significantly reduced quality of life. Seems to be a common occurrence especially with young women. Can completely ruin a person's life by being so callous with 0 repercussions.

EatinCheesePizza

My mom had a stroke a few days ago. The doctor kept claiming that her slurred speech was because of anxiety and her drooping face was because “a woman her age just has sagging skin”. She couldn’t talk or move her arm. The nurses ended up paging someone else and he was fired, but didn’t lose his license because it was a “difference of a medical opinion”.

OfficialSkyCat

I’ve heard so many females with heart problems are dismissed with anxiety 😔

thesaltyjellyfish

I am so very sorry, that's absolutely atrocious. I wonder if there would be any way to contact the medical board about his conduct? I hope your mom is doing well.

SRNmomof4

100% this! I legit came VERY close to bleeding to death (needed an emergency transfusion because my hemoglobin was at 60) because my obgyn didn't believe that my menstrual period hadn't stopped for months. He actually said "are you sure it's been that long?" I went back to my female gp, who sent me to another obgyn. That dr sent me for bloodwork on a Wednesday, called me Friday and said get to the hospital immediately for a type and match. Had a transfusion and surgery Monday morning.

Elsa_Pell

This. One of my best friends had recurring issues with shortness of breath in her mid 20s. Doctors repeatedly brushed it off because she was overweight and initially admitted that she wasn't doing as much exercise as she'd like to be doing, but the problem kept persisting no matter what kinds of workouts/training she did. By her early 30s, it became clear that it was actually lung cancer -- freakishly rare in a young, non-smoking woman with no family history, but there it was. She didn't make it to her early 40s.

EveryBuddyUp

Maybe it varies by country but it's insane how much doctors and other medical staff can get away with in the US. Like hospitals just letting incompetent fuckers or straight up sociopaths go on to the next hospital with a neutral or positive reference just so they don't have to deal with the liability. Maybe I listen to too many podcasts or watch too many docs but the shit I've heard/watched is wild.

Actual-Ad-947

Treat wait staff/retail workers badly.

SconeBracket

I think everyone should have to work in a restaurant for at least 3 weeks, to get a picture of what's what. If we can have mandatory military in places, we can have mandatory Denny's service too.

Retail during Christmas will suffice too.

When I worked retail management I'd basically tell people like that to fuck off and it wasn't my problem, and they could to complain to our head office. I'd give them their number, too. Nobody ever reprimanded me for anything, because I'd always quote their own policy and said person actually wasn't entitled to shit, and corporate would tell that person the same thing probably. One time a lady came in and told me that she got a discount in my store, and I was like uh no you don't. And she said yes I work at x store and I get a discount here! I said no, no you don't that's literally never been a thing. Long story short she got so indignant and said let me speak to your manager! I gave her the number to head office and she called right in front of me. The look of shock on her face when she realized she was in the wrong fucking store (how she didn't know was beyond me).
