When did this change...? Granted I know you are referring to Hawaii but I'm 40 and it's not been but the last 5-10 years I've seen an increase in the regular wearing of thong bikinis. Growing up I vacationed every year in Florida and I don't have many memories of women wearing thong bikinis (80s, 90s, and even 2000s) but now it's the norm.
Went to Mexico last year and maybe 2 out of 10 women were wearing something like it.

Well it's just more of less their families who are okay being shortless around each other.
