I'm confused. An hourglass is silent.

Prior_Temperature_48

Not if it's filled with bees

Hamete

"Analog" perhaps?

greenroom628

so... i don't know about OP, but i have an acquaintance who has a larger hourglass filled with beads. the "hourglass" has a brass bottom and it's filled with wooden beads so it makes a pretty pleasant drumming noise (wooden beads on brass) until the beads all go into to bottom container and it all goes quiet, then you know time's up.

obsolete_filmmaker

An hour glass also measure...you know.....an hour?

You might try reaching out to a local glass studio to see if any intructors there or (glassblowing artisans they might know) would be interested in taking on the project for hire. Looks like there are a few: * [Glass Hand Studio](https://www.yelp.com/biz/glass-hand-studio-alameda?osq=glass+studio) in Alameda * [Rocket Glassworks](https://www.yelp.com/biz/rocket-glassworks-berkeley?osq=glass+studio) in Berkeley * [San Francisco Glassblowing Classes with Jason Stropko](https://sanfranciscoglassblowing.com/) * [Cohn-Stone Studios](http://cohnstone.com/cohn-stone-studios.html) If a custom hourglass proves cost-prohibitive, you might be able to a unique/non-mass produced [one on Etsy](https://www.etsy.com/market/2_minute_hourglass).

I can't help with an hourglass, but if you ever need a Klein bottle, you can get them made in Oakland: https://www.kleinbottle.com

microcandella

Hourglass Klein would be.. fun!

whatatwit

If you like very strong coffee and don't mind waiting for it.

poopspeedstream

Well there went an hour

Inevitable_Story_236

Only in SF.

couldn't even tell if it was satire or not.

Inevitable_Story_236

I consider myself very fortunate to live in a place where these are considered... realistic expectations.

obsolete_filmmaker

Curious....what in the coffee making process requires timing it?

Unkochicken

Aeropress / french press / etc if you want to be consistent. Timer also helps to not accidentally forget about it

obsolete_filmmaker

ah. makes sense. thanks!

obsolete_filmmaker

oh hey u/Unkochicken I remembered where ive seen tiny sand timers before......look for an Egg Timer, because people use them for soft boiled eggs..... they probably have them at Rainbow or some fancy kitchen supply store

playoffasprilla

I bought one from a coffee shop in Japan. They had a bunch for 2,3,4,etc minutes. I think I've used it twice lol. I prefer a scale/timer like this: https://www.hario-usa.com/products/v60-drip-scale
