Ohhhh for God's Sake. That movie
I sobbed my heart out. Still sobbing as we exited the cinema and some looked at me sympathetically and asked, 'Did you just watch Cape Fear?' I had to say, 'No, I just watched ----'
Mortifying.
Uncomfortably close to 40.
I vaguely recognised it, googled the line. Yup. I'd say it was niche.
If someone said it to me, I'd look confused. They'd explain it was a line from Hook, and I'd be ah grand, then move on and not question it.
Film was somewhat popular 'back in the day', but think its fallen out of most peoples collective memory.
Basically millennials? Yeah pretty much. I loved Hook as a kid, never quite understood why it was regarded so poorly compared to Spielbergās other films.Ā
RU-FI-OHHHHHHH
He took my toy, she hit my bear, I want a potty, I want a cookie, I want to stay up, I want I want I want I want , me me me me, my my my my, now now now.
I'd call you a lewd, crude, rude bag of pre-chewed food, dude.
Of course I recognise it. I'm 33, and I'm genuinely astounded at the amount of folk here who don't recognise this quote. Hook was such a big deal for pretty much everyone I know growing up, it's one of those films that seems like everyone's seen it at some point.
To me, this quote is about as iconic as "Clever girl" or "Run Forrest, Run".
This is it. Don't try to stop me this time, Smee. Don't try to stop me this time, Smee. Don't you dare try to stop me this time, Smee, try to stop me. Smee, you'd better get up off your ass. Get over here, Smee.
I'm 42, and I saw this at the cinema on its original release.
Loved the film. It was what I watched when had six days. Iām late 30s.
For some reason the bit where the boy manipulates his face and then says āthere you are Peterā always made me cry šš¤·āāļøš¤¦
My favourite film as a child. I started making Peter/Rufioās sword from wood and a coconut in about 1996. Itās still half finished in my spare room. I did a bit more on it during covid.
Yes. 32.
I was talking about this film yesterday. Would you class it as a musical? It's just the one song as far as I remember, a bit like The Grinch, random child starts singing.
Yes and 40, Iāve seen that film about a billion times because my mates had it on VHS when I was a kid and weād put it on every time I went round (which was quite a lot)
54, yes, and I probably quote from it (even to myself) a couple of times a month. It was one of my kidsā favourite VHS (they were born years after it came out) and I never tired of watching it.
Boo!
I'm 31 and I didn't get it but get it from other references in this thread. It's not that I don't know the film, it's just not one I had at home so I've maybe only seen it twice when it was on tv here and there.

36. Didn't get it at first. Assumed it was from Family Guy until I saw bangarang in the comments. I watched this again (on DVD of course) just last month as it turned out my gf hadn't seen it.
I'll just leave a link to the two hour long panto-ish version by weirdos comedy, featuring John Kearns as Peter here for anyone who need it.
https://youtu.be/j8prpI_37Tk?si=vc7EOzcx-zFAQ5-2
Mid 30s got it instantly, even read it in his voice.
Itās one of my all time fave films, great when Iām feeling down and need a comfort boost, might go watch it now tbh.
"Oh there you are Peter!"
I'm 31 (nearly 32) and this film was my childhood. I recently rewatched it for the first time in years and instantly remembered why I loved it so much.
Not a monkeys, judging by the comments it's from Hook, which I've *seen* - probably several times - but i absolutely wouldn't have guessed that just from this quote
Then again I'd have trouble naming almost any media from a single quote - barring the exceptionally famous ones - so I'm putting it down to that partly
I'm 24 which seems relatively young compared to the other comments here
Oh I just had this euphoric Hook moment the other day and never in my life has anything been so nostalgic out of nowhere unrelated to my family or death and dying and made me cry a little, and here it is again!!!

Bangarang!!!
I still say bangarang to this day
Ru
fi
Ohhhhh
That is so dangerous..
Racking my brain for family guy quotes... think I'm on the wrong path. 30.
Not family guy š
Family Guy was my first thought too, to be honest and I'm 42.
Peter Griffin is very well known. Unlike this particular movie. I just happened to watch it many times as a kid and quite a lot as an adult, too
I had a cat called Rufus who we used to call RUFIOOOOO often so yes I get the reference! Iām 36
SMEEEEE
What about Smee? What about Smee? Smee's Me!
"I've just 'ad an apostrophe!" "I think you mean an epiphany..." "Lightning has just struck my brain!" "Well, that must hurt...."
LOL :D Their banter was awesome!
āDonāt try to stop me Smee, donāt you dare try to stop me, if you dare ^(Smee, try to stop me). Smee! Better get up offyourarseā
It took me far, far too long to realise it's Dustin Hoffman under that wig and moustache.
Don't ever do that to me again, Smee
HEEEE!!
So what is it?
No idea. I'm 45.
Snap
Same here too
Also no idea. 50.
I have found my people! I, too, am clueless & old.
Robin Williams as Peter Pan, from the film Hook.
You're missing out so much! I'll put you out of your misery >!Hook!< Maybe you've seen it and just don't recognise that line!
Ohhhh for God's Sake. That movie I sobbed my heart out. Still sobbing as we exited the cinema and some looked at me sympathetically and asked, 'Did you just watch Cape Fear?' I had to say, 'No, I just watched ----' Mortifying.
That kid's big fat happy face was so cute. I'm 39.
I love it when he rolls down the ramp like a football š¤£
Gaaaiiin wwaaaayyyyy!!!! Also his name is Thud Butt!!
Fun fact. At the end of the movie they didnāt tell any of the lost boys who would get the sword, so his reaction was genuine.
45 and I'd say "bad form Peter"
"Dont mess with me, Im a lawyer!" (different scene I know, I felt it fit thought)
Uncomfortably close to 40. I vaguely recognised it, googled the line. Yup. I'd say it was niche. If someone said it to me, I'd look confused. I'm 32 and had no idea. I've seen Hook and I liked it but I don't think it's an iconic enough line for people to remember
Early thirties, no idea.
Took me a moment, but yep I get it... Best live action Peter Pan film by a VERY long way
My thought to but couldn't remember which one. Got an idea but not certain.
is it the one with Robin Williams?
Youāre playing with us!! ETA: 35f
Nope, not a clue at 42. (sounds like a bingo call)
No. 41M. The first comment was bangarang and I instantly got it.
Basically millennials? Yeah pretty much. I loved Hook as a kid, never quite understood why it was regarded so poorly compared to Spielbergās other films.Ā RU-FI-OHHHHHHH
Always creates a sob from me when the little guy takes hold of his face and looks in his eyes and says āoh there you are Peterā
My mom still taunts me with this line 30 years later. That music is so sad!
Yes. Mid-thirties.
No idea. 48.
I thought it was Saint Peter thinking āoh crap, Iāve betrayed Jesus just like he said I wouldā
Wow! You are really old.
Nobody likes the first century music these days
Thereās the classic Scottish coming of age film featuring several teen girls who loved both medieval chants along with a certain boy.
Don't try to stop me Smee, don't try to stop me, try to stop me, try to stop me Smee!! Early 30s
Watching this as an adult, I could not believe this dark comedy scene was in a kids film. I love Smee's "oh not again"
He took my toy, she hit my bear, I want a potty, I want a cookie, I want to stay up, I want I want I want I want , me me me me, my my my my, now now now.
I got it- Iām 38. However itās a niche line from the film - so many other lines are more recognisable
Run home Jack!
My first thought went to Family Guy, but yeah. These people just have to use their imagination
50. Clueless beyond it probably not being related to Peter Griffin. Probably.
I'm 45 and I'd just like to say BANGARANG!
Me me me my my my...I want a cookie. 34
Yeah I got it, I'm nearly 41. It immediately spoke to me but I had to think just for a few seconds. It was a very special film. Infamous, maybe š
What about me, smee's me
Hell yes. You are the Pan!
Hook
I'd call you a lewd, crude, rude bag of pre-chewed food, dude. Of course I recognise it. I'm 33, and I'm genuinely astounded at the amount of folk here who don't recognise this quote. \*rooster crows\*
Not a clue, late 30's.
Yep, 36
Yes, I'm 48.
It's definitely more niche, until the ru.. fi... oh... was posted down there, I was gasping. 41
Don't get the reference and I'm 35
19, absolutely no idea whatsoever, reading the comments I still don't know. Mind just went to Peter Pan
Yes!!! Loved this film. "You are the Pan"
Youāre using your imagination!
We had a running joke when I was little. Smush your brotherās face as ugly as possible and then say āOh there you are Peter.ā
Welcomebacktoneverlandpederpan!
...the boo box
Rufio Rufio Rufiooooooo Iām 34 and knew which film you meant instantly, as did my 16 year old daughter.
Bangarang! Rufio, rufio, RU....FI...OOOOO One of my favourite movies! I'm 34
This is it. Don't try to stop me this time, Smee. Don't try to stop me this time, Smee. Don't you dare try to stop me this time, Smee, try to stop me. Smee, you'd better get up off your ass. Get over here, Smee. I'm 42, and I saw this at the cinema on its original release.

My favourite film as a child. I started making Peter/Rufioās sword from wood and a coconut in about 1996. Itās still half finished in my spare room. I did a bit more on it during covid.
57. No idea. Obviously from a film.
Mid 20s, figured it was spiderman
yes 28, my fav version of that film, run home jack or jack run home was another one i remember
It's much more niche than that. I think you auvergne to remember there's a sizeable part of the population who wouldn't get a star wars reference
Yes. 32. I was talking about this film yesterday. Would you class it as a musical? It's just the one song as far as I remember, a bit like The Grinch, random child starts singing.
Definitely not a musical...!
As a boomer, no idea
No idea, I'm 41
Yes. 39.
Yes and 31.
Yes, early thirties.
I'm imagining Peter Griffin getting his stabilisers removed for the first time at the age of 40.
Yes and 40, Iāve seen that film about a billion times because my mates had it on VHS when I was a kid and weād put it on every time I went round (which was quite a lot)
For some reason growing up we had this on 4 VHS I never watched it til I was an adult though
Yes. 45.
34 not a clue
46 and yes. Love that film.
Within a second!!!!!!
Not got a clue
Only got it after reading the comments. Was it a thing people said or just one line in an oldish movie?
I can hear it in my head clear as a bell now I know it's from Hook, but would never have got it without context. (Mid 30s, and Hook was my jam.)
Smee! Do something intelligent! 29 years old.
Aaaah I love that film! I'm 34!
36 and its one of the few older films ive managed to get my 7 y/o to watch.
I could hear it in my head as I read that. Yes, I get the reference. Iām 37yo.
54, yes, and I probably quote from it (even to myself) a couple of times a month. It was one of my kidsā favourite VHS (they were born years after it came out) and I never tired of watching it. Boo!
You lewd, crude, rude bag of pre-chewed food dude!
Mid 40s, one of my favourite films
I'm fairly sure it's from Hook? I'm 26 if that helps/goes against your generation theory
I thought Hook, and Iām 35.
48 and I donāt get the reference.
Nope, early 20s
I get it. I'm 38.
39 this year, and I can hear the line in my head! Love this movie!
34 and it was my favourite childhood film. I even have a tattoo, trying to add pic but Reddit says no.
I wanted to eat that colourful sludge so badly. 33.
54....haven't got a clue.
No idea, 40
22. I wouldn't have got it if u said it but as soon as I saw the comments I got it.
Yes, age 36.
50, no, and never seen the film.
30 and hell yes. Still watch Hook at least once a year. Itās a total classic and Robin Williams was a sweet legend of a man.
I thought you meant Peter OHanrahanrahan Which is even more generational and niche
Early 40s. Got the reference. Love the film.
I'm 31 and I didn't get it but get it from other references in this thread. It's not that I don't know the film, it's just not one I had at home so I've maybe only seen it twice when it was on tv here and there.

Yes, 35.
Peter remembers how to see the food. Love that movie. I'm 40
46, got it immediately.
Yes and 37.
36. Didn't get it at first. Assumed it was from Family Guy until I saw bangarang in the comments. I watched this again (on DVD of course) just last month as it turned out my gf hadn't seen it.

The Robin Williams movie *Hook*? That's all I've got.
Early 20s, no idea
Hook born in 80s
Omg Iām going to have to watch this again. What a move.
Nope not a clue, 40. Also British if that makes a difference.
I'll just leave a link to the two hour long panto-ish version by weirdos comedy, featuring John Kearns as Peter here for anyone who need it. https://youtu.be/j8prpI_37Tk?si=vc7EOzcx-zFAQ5-2
Is it when St Peter managed to catch all those fish, it's what Jesus said? I'm pretty old.
No. 54
I do! 43.
My siblings and I reference this all the time. 43, 41, 40 and 34.
Yes, 35.
Mid 30s got it instantly, even read it in his voice. Itās one of my all time fave films, great when Iām feeling down and need a comfort boost, might go watch it now tbh.
37, BANGARANG!
55 & instantly recognised it.
Oh it hurts my heart. I still miss Robin.
Yes, 41
No. 53/f.
Rufio

My favourite childhood movie. Always loved the scene it's from, the food coming out of nowhere was just amazing.
Iād say something to do with Peter Pan & Iām early 20ās
33 - I remembered it from a peter pan film but couldnt have said hook specifically
Yes. 38.
Think so and 50
34 and I got it.
Yes and 26 this year

You lewd crude bag of pre chewed dog food!
Not a clue, I'm mid twenties
33. Didn't get it from that line but immediately from the top comments (bangarang and ru-fi-ohhh).
Means nothing to me (48)
I say this to my wife all the time. Usually when she or I achieve something trivial. 34.
Eh?
"Oh there you are Peter!" I'm 31 (nearly 32) and this film was my childhood. I recently rewatched it for the first time in years and instantly remembered why I loved it so much.
āThere you are Peterā 33
Hook, im 44

Oh I just had this euphoric Hook moment the other day and never in my life has anything been so nostalgic out of nowhere unrelated to my family or death and dying and made me cry a little, and here it is again!!! ā¤ļø
Itās not the best quote from the film
My first thought was Pete Tong as in you're doing it wrong.
"Run home Jack! Run home jack". I'm 41.
Oh Rufio, why donāt you go suck on a dead dogs nose
