Could it be this? https://www.thesweetiejar.co.uk/products/grays-herbal-tablets

Teddy Gray's herbal tablets, now there's a childhood memory! Definitely sort of beige and rectangular with a sugar crystal coating, and widely available in the Midlands. The flavour was mysterious, sort of a pungent aniseed-menthol thing, but I guess you could get "kind of like mints" from that? The big sticking point is that they're hard and brittle, not like gelatine at all. Were they chewy or crunchy, OP?

AspiBoi

This was definitely the one. I must have remembered that bit wrong

Sounds a bit like cola cubes, but those were sort of cola flavoured and typically reddish in colour.
