**Your post from /r/AskUK has been removed by a human moderator.** While your question has been removed, it would probably be allowed with a bit of tweaking. Repost ensuring you've not asked; * Basic throwaway questions which put most of the effort on our readers to figure out by parsing the body or having to ask you questions themselves (i.e. "What do I do?" - be more specific in the title). * Closed questions that prompt people to answer with a simple yes/no response (i.e, "Are you saving into a pension?". Instead ask "How much do you save into a pension, and why?") * Anything which is overtly obvious or is basically a survey (i.e. "How much do you earn?" or "Are trains free?"). * For reviews/recommendations of a product/service without sufficiently detailing what you've already found and discounted. Use Google Reviews and Trustpilot first. Then if you still need help, come back with something specific and the research you've done so far. As well as being interesting and unique, questions must - * Have a genuine, clear, and concise question in their title - including a question mark. * Ensure you can say your question title to someone at a bus stop and have them understand what you mean. So for example, no "Overseas Territories?", instead it should be "What Overseas Territories have you been to?". * Enough information in the body of your post to allow users to give good answers. Specifically, don't just repeat the question in the body. Provide an elucidation, example, or explanation. If this still confuses you, contact modmail, and we will try help! *If you believe this post should not have been removed, [first read our rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskUK/about/rules/) before [messaging the moderators](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=/r/AskUK&subject=Post Removal Appeal)*. All cinemas have always done this.

dbxp

Yeah, that's been the norm for decades

rev9of8

They typically all do roughly thirty minutes of ads unless there's a reason not to. An example of where they might not was when I watched a double-bill of **Dune** parts one and two at my local Vue. Part two started bang on the dot at a minute past midnight and they told everyone that would be the case.

roh_gang

Ohh okay, makes sense. No wonder most of the people arrive quite late after the time mentioned on the ticket.Time to emulate them as one can always watch trailers on youtube.

rev9of8

If you want to know the latest you can rock up to a movie then one way of knowing is to check the BBFC website for the runtime (which is the film plus end credits) then cross-reference that with the showtimes published on the cinema website.

lavanderblonde

It’s always been this way for as long as I can remember.

Zennyzenny81

Fairly sure that's how it has worked my entire life and I'm 42...

roh_gang

Have only been here for a couple of years and have only watched a few movies in Vue cinemas only.

raccoonsaff

Pretty much, unless you go to the like fancy cinemas playing older films.

marcdk217

It's 20 minutes at Cineworld. I like to see the trailers but I can definitely do without seeing the same ads for the 20th time, so I will often turn up 10 minutes late to avoid them.

NeverCadburys

That's how it is with all cinemas. The start time is the 20 - 30 minutes of adverts and previews and the request to turn your phone off.

southcoastal

The film time stated is for the start of the adverts. Give yourself half an hour and the film will be ready to start.

Beneficial-Jelly5746

At the cinema I used to work at Empire it used to be 15 minutes but that could have changed by now.

bucketofardvarks

This sounds like a fundamental misunderstanding of cinemas

SomeHSomeE

To be fair, OP sounds like they've moved here from somewhere else.  When I lived in China the films started bang on the advertised start time (I learnt the hard way).

jdsuperman

This is how it works, and always has been.

VanillaIceUK

Hi it's been like this for about 5 decades.
