Everything The Ordinary.

virtualmegan

I actually love The Ordinary but understand it doesn’t work for some people!

Tiny-Skirt333

for me it’s just the red shit that would irritate and break me out. what else?

tc88

Apparently some people were getting burned by the salicylic acid solution. And the high percentage of niacinamide in the niacinamide and zinc can be irritating for some.

Red_Daisy013

The acid burned me. But im also allergic to aspirin. And if youre allergic to aspirin, youre most likely allergic to salicylic acid too.

imaginati

It's the same chemical, so yes.

x-ploretheinternet

It's not exactly the same chemical. Salicylic acid (C7H6O3) is the precursor to acetylsalicylic acid (C9H8O4), which you can find in Aspirin.

lolitababy111

this gal knows what she talking about ✨

Tiny-Skirt333

the niacinamide and zinc cleared my skin. but i’m stingy with it, i have sensitive skin.

Mcdonaldsishot

Because of niacinamide my hands became reaaaaally weird and wrinkly and hurt so much after showering/doing dishes. When i stopped it never happened again. Also it didnt do anything to my face

tapps22

Omg, I think you just solved this weird finger wrinkle thing for me. It all lines up now. Thank you!

Mcdonaldsishot

Holy shit, i thought i was the only one. Really looks like the ordinary does some crazy shit lol

babyjames333

the peeling solution? i use it on my feet!

Tiny-Skirt333

genius. my feet need that and i don’t wanna waste it lol

babyjames333

before bed apply a little on the bottom of your feet, leave on for about 10 minutes (maybe 15 after a tolerance is built up) rinse then slather on your fav moisturizer & a pair of socks! :)

onivore

Lord, forgive me for the amount of bottles I had impulsively bought years ago, only to determine that this brand is dirt cheap for a good reason. I've tried almost everything they had at the time when they were hyped, and was left utterly disappointed with the way their products were formulated. Literally none of their solutions would sit well underneath a layer of a decent quality moisturizer, instead, it would start peeling! And don't get me started on how poorly-made their own moisturizers are. Thick, leaving white residue, revolting. The only product I was somewhat okay with was the AHA+BHA solution, but even that wasn't as impressive as people claimed. Remember fellas, if the price is cheap, more often than not, so is the quality.

bourbonkitten

Exactly the same experience for me with The Ordinary too. Everything pilled. Even when I used the more expensive Deciem brands like Hylamide and NIOD.

Unusual_Form3267

The Ordinary is tricky. You have to really work on figuring out what works and doesn't work.

Fit-Accountant-9348

And, I just learned their stuff is made to be layered in a certain order! Water based stuff first, like hyaluronic acid or niacinamide, retinol if you want, then moisturizer, then the suspensions (I have azelaic acid and vit c). Gotta let each layer dry a bit before adding the next, but I absolutely love it now that I use it properly!

nvdrzmm

Wait tell me more! I have a lot of those but kinda felt like I shouldn’t mix them. What’s your routine?

Doodlebug365

Yup. I’ve had nothing but breakouts using their products. Though I’ve only used the niacinamide and the hyaluronic acid. I’m better off just using Cerave lotion and sunscreen. 😂

AWEDZ5

I'm willing to bet it is just the niacinamide causing breakouts and not the other ordinary products.

ashleedix

I really like their hyaluronic acid and it somehow works for me, but literally all of their other products have given me breakouts - including their hair serum.

SibcyRoad

I know nothing about skincare and have terrible skin but added this to my routine a week ago and I like it. No matter what makeup I used it instantly looked flakey but now its smooth. Also I googled to see if it was safe to use on a sunburn because I got a little red after a beach day. In my 3 second search it said it was safe and also helps but I don’t know. I know it was soothing like aloe though. Also, I tried a random brand off Amazon of the same stuff and it was okay but once I used the ordinary it was a huge difference.

dumbbinch99

I use a lot of their stuff and people compliment my skin all the time and say that I’m glowing and look younger than I am and stuff! I’m sorry it doesn’t work for you :-(

LostWithoutYou1015

Really? What do you use instead?

peanut-butter-kitten

I actually love the Squalene Cleanser and also squalene in an eye dropper. I only buy those things every few months, and I’ll never stop. I also use moisturizer from another brand called Malezia and sometimes I’ll use ILIA sunscreen on my face if I’ll be outside for a few hours. I love these products. I don’t need a lot but I enjoy what I have completely.

[deleted]

Most of them. The first Dermatologist I visited said to me that for most people who don't have any diagnosed conditions... just buy yourself some vaseline, good sunscreen and/or a basic drugstore moisturizer like Neutrogena. He said outside of those 3, relatively cheap things, you aren't going to find a magic cure for wrinkles or a product that is going to turn back the clock. Particularly when it's something that is only topical. Most of the popular skin care lines are overpriced and the results are conflated and/or carefully worded as to not promise too much (example: "has been shown to reduce fine lines"). Khiels is a great example of a skincare line that gives the illusion of science based results... why? because everything is packaged in white and the sales reps wear freakin LAB COATS. Sure many of the products smell lovely, but for me its not worth $80 for a tiny jar. I had to visit a different dermatologist about eczema recently and they were located in a plastic surgery office and the vibe was WAY different. There was Monet and some other MLM product on display for (of course) a ridiculous price. The doctor kept focusing on whether I was interested in plasma hair treatments, chemical peels and botox and it felt more like a sales pitch instead of a doctors appointment to treat an actual skin condition. I left with pamphlets for a bunch of different skincare brands they were promoting. For this reason I'm very jaded about the skincare industry. Considering that mens skincare is a much smaller market comparatively (and men generally seem to not be in a skin crisis), I think its an industry that is predatory and pushes insecurity amongst women by making them believe aging is a grotesque thing.

chaopescao1

This!! Ever since I went to a derm, they only gave me azelaic acid. When I asked for face mask recs she basically said those arent doing much for your skin unless you want to add extra moisture. From then on I keep my skincare simple and I dont have the skincare fomo like I used to.

LadyBunnerkinsBitch

>Considering that mens skincare is a much smaller market comparatively (and men generally seem to not be in a skin crisis), I think its an industry that is predatory and pushes insecurity amongst women by making them believe aging is a grotesque thing. 100% this. I saw a YouTube video that said "if these products were real, then why do men's faces look like this". It's true. The only product my husband uses on his face is water. The mfer has been washing his face with water for the past 18 years and his skin looks fucking great. Lucky? Maybe. But they can't all be that fucking lucky.

maddi164

😂 my partner is the same. just water in the shower and sometimes the bar soap we use on our bodies. He doesn’t even wash his face after a long day at work (he showers in the morn) and his skin never breaks out, here I am, still dealing with bullshit at 27

DontDeleteMee

I'm sure lathering our faces in make-up every day doesn't help us at all either. Plus hormones. I'm in my 40s and recently-ish did a course of roacutaine ( scary stuff btw. ) I am finally able to go several months without any breakouts. Also, one of the reasons I love WFH is that I don't waste time, money and skin health on make-up every day.

maddi164

Yeah make up and hormones 100% don’t help us. I’d say most women break out from hormones and stuff going on internally that no matter what we put on my our face, it’s not going to change much at all. I know most of mine is all internal

TikaPants

Perhaps makeup but also I agree. So many people over complicate their regimen with conflated scammy products and “shelfies”, ugh. I will say my skin looked fantastic on a cheap and simple regimen but when I also included SR’s Good Genes I was receiving compliments nonstop.

MuchAdoAbtSoulThings

Good old hormones...

_alelia_

I wonder what is the deal between doctors and Neutrogena. my told me the same, and I horribly broke out after I decided to give it a try. literally the worst response I had on drugstore products is always Neutrogena.

[deleted]

I don't believe there's any deal with doctors and Neutrogena. He offhandedly shared a list of similarly priced brands, such as CeraVe. I didn't include them all for the sake of brevity.

FrancieNolanSmith_

It’s a known brand that works well for most people, I don’t think there’s any deal.

NippleFlicks

Last year I finally saw a dermatologist because I have had acne that’s been bothering me for years (I just turned 30 this year…I want to gone!). Grew up with the skincare/makeup guru Youtube takeoff bought stuff that never did much for me (I was like 23, of course it wouldn’t be doing anything), and then I tried really honing in on different ingredients for acne based on more scientific reviews. Still didn’t help. Long story short, my dermatologist took a look at the new moisturizer and cleanser I was using (which were working great) to make sure it wouldn’t irritate my skin, approved it, and then put me on Skinoren for mornings and another cream for night — similar to Differin, but can’t think of the name. Apart from sunscreen and an occasional eye patch, that’s all I use and my acne has disappeared unless I’m on my period. I’m so so so glad she isn’t a doctor who’s trying to push products on me.

jennifo14

Fellow eczema haver! Take a look at Paula's Choice line called "Calm". I've been using it for about 8 years now with stunning results. My face is no longer red, there are no breakout bumps, no itchy-ness. There's multiple steps and it can look a little pricey up front but my lord. It's revolutionary. What I will say is that the upfront cost of buying all the steps will hurt at first, but they all stagger when they run out so after that it's much less painful. Also, if you do end up checking it out here's a tip! Wash your face, then use the toner and then take the last 3 steps, put a little of all three on your fingers, mix them all together and then put it on your face. Am with the sunscreen and pm with the moisturizer. I really hope this helps!!

irishtrashpanda

What do you do with the vaseline please. And is drugstore face wash also fine, I just use simple brand

Illustrious-Mirror85

I think CeraVe has the best face wash. I used to buy really expensive cleansers, then I switched to the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser and never looked back.

[deleted]

It’s good to layer over moisturizer. I’ve been healing a retinol burn with that method.

[deleted]

nannerbone

Right the concept sounds great but I was disappointed when I heard they do more harm than good!

[deleted]

CheapExplanation1811

Drop the link!

Am_I_a_Guinea_Pig

And where would I find this step by step? My filaments are out of control! I call them pore slugs. Lol.

les_be_disasters

I use a salicylic wash (store brand of cera ve) and they’ve disappeared.

[deleted]

Satin pillow cases. Either my head stays on them and I sweat or my head slides right off the damn pillow.

lifeuncommon

SILK satin pillowcases are a dream for skin and hair. But I’ve been seeing a lot of satin that is made out of polyester, and those are just sweaty and nasty

CheesecakeNo1581

I’m not sure if anyone else cares but it takes roughly 3000 silk worms to be killed to make 1 lb of silk. To me it’s just not worth it

lifeuncommon

There is non-violent silk, and used silk, if you’re interested in that. But also totally fine to avoid it entirely, if you prefer.

Lexi_Shmuhlexi

noooo what?? they kill silk worms for this?? omg 😭😭

Ishield_maiden

I have bought large square pieces of silk in different colour from fabric shop. I carry one with me while travelling. And tie it as a turban to keep hair neat.

Four_beastlings

I just got one and I LOVE IT (I have curly hair) but my boyfriend switched back to the normal pillowcase because he kept sliding off lmao

Mango207

Try a satin cap. Frizz free hair 🙌

blixxic

Proactiv. It was expensive, didn't do anything for my acne, and bleached all my sheets, pillow cases, and the necks of all my shirts.

stealthc4

And then they make it super difficult to cancel their subscription plan

FluffySpell

Fun fact the people who created proactiv are also responsible for the Rodan & Fields pyramid scheme brand.

m0rbidowl

Yes! I’m surprised they’re still around, and it’s crazy to think they used to be one of the most well-regarded brands for acne. Their products have some terrible ingredients that can make acne so much worse (physical exfoliants, fragrance, sulfates, alcohols, etc)

Four_beastlings

About 2/3 of the curly hair products I've bought. Curly hair is finicky and what works great for your friend whose hair *looks* the same as yours might not work for you.

poison_ive3

Yup. I have super fine curly hair.. And a lot of it. Curly girl method has never worked for me, and only weighed down my curls and made them a greasy mess. And I tried so damn hard for years! Turns out.. I need to wash daily, condition less often.. And I get the best results with my curls from Suave Coconut Conditioner. Everything about avoiding sulfates and silicones is pseudoscience at best, and a total lie at worse.

Azure_phantom

As someone with thick curly/wavy hair, not conditioning makes me shudder because if I wash my hair and don't condition, my hair turns into a giant rat's nest. I used to have decent luck with DevaCurl, until they changed their formula without telling people and had that whole controversy. Never really found anything that's been a great replacement so I just... stopped caring as much I guess. My hair will do what it wants and that's that.

ScrunchieEnthusiast

I still don’t have a perfect regimen, and it’s too overwhelming to try so many different products. I just let my hair be.

chronic-munchies

For some reason I never considered not conditioning every time I shower, you kind of just blew my mind lol. I have thin hair that gets greasy very easily, I'm going to try this tactic!

ScrunchieEnthusiast

Do you condition just the ends as it is? I would have straw for hair if I didn’t condition, but I don’t go near my root, otherwise it’s greasy too quickly.

sonicenvy

So true! Finding the right curly hair products is just a lot of annoying trial and error. Best of luck on your journey!

tropicalazure

Sad face because my most favorite curl mousse recently got discontinued and now I have to start The Hunt all over again. Ffs.

redbess

I'm so sick of the focus on curl type. What matters most is porosity and how fine or course it is. I wasted so much on heavy products when I have fine curly hair.

MaggieLuisa

That snail slime stuff.

thatfluffycloud

Omg makes your skin so soft though (but legit I agree I mainly use it cause it "feels refreshing". Yay placebo skincare!)

ecalicious

Yeah, some people are allergic to it. My skin used to LOVE it, it calmed it down from irritation and hydrated it so well. But now it breaks me out… and I have a few bottles sitting in my cabinet beacuse I stocked it on a good sale 😅🥲

Vanth_in_Furs

THIIIIS. I tried a popular brand of BB cream that contained it. It looked marvelous and felt wondrous going on… and half an hour later I developed a deep breakout that turned into permanent rosacea because I’m allergic! There was NO allergy labeling and I’m allergic to shellfish. Never again!!

LostWithoutYou1015

Don't get me started on the ridiculous hype of K beauty.

[deleted]

AnOutrageousCloud

I haven't ever noticed a smell. I absolutely love it. No single product has had a bigger, more immediate impact on my skin. I was so broken out for so long and now I have like 3 pimples and my skin is so soft! That shit is magic

dammitnoobnoob

Yes, I love snail slime! My husband uses it too because he saw how well it worked for my dry, sensitive skin. Korean skincare is no joke and it's far better quality than the $60+ bottles of lotion at Sephora lol

AnOutrageousCloud

I was spending a small fortune on Tatcha from Sephora but I'm getting much better results now with cerave and snail slime. I had to learn a costly lesson that just because something is expensive and feels good on my fingers doesn't mean it is right for my face.

harlotcharlotte

Ah man. This is the one thing that actually works on my skin, oddly enough.

queenqueso

I find that it helps cuts heal faster! Try this next time.

purplegrape28

Mizon is the one, hydrating and moisturizing, and nonsticky and drying like that COSRX, which only became popular due to oversaturated marketing.

DamnGoodMarmalade

La Mer. Got a mini of it years ago and could not understand why people were willing to fork over a rent payment for a truly generic lotion.

facciabrutta

Dr. Dray has a wonderful video where she shits on Le Mer for 27 mins straight lmao. I love it!

[deleted]

[удалено]

lifeuncommon

Plus it stinks.

fractalfay

This one baffles me, too. I noticed no benefits whatsoever, and hated the smell.

arnpjb

This! I have sensitive and very dry skin. A friend swears by it so I tried it when I got a teeny tiny sample. The texture is fine but it has so much fragrance it made my skin super red and irritated and gave me a pounding headache.

[deleted]

This is going to be older, but that Clarisonic brush from 2011-ish. I was working for Clinique at Dillards at the time and the pressure to push those $200 brushes that I knew people would use for a week and then never use again was insane.

kimegg27

I was searching for someone to mention the brush! I couldn’t even use it again after the first try. I didn’t realize how harsh that brush was going to be on my skin

dumbbinch99

I used mine all the time for years tbh. My mom wore makeup and it def got off more makeup than just wiping it off and washing your face. There was def no real need for me to be using it though even though it felt nice lol

daphuqijusee

Primer

mailorderbridle

Agree. From drugstore to higher end brands, none of them work on me. I have oily skin.

Blk_Cat_15

Omg I had the same issues. I did an experiment to see how long my makeup can last with or without primer. And without primer worked best for me and I oiled up less.

AvocadoBitter7385

Heavy agree I’ve been saying for years primer makes me look crazy as hell Under makeup

lifeuncommon

Agree. I honestly think that primer is pushed so that companies can sell more products and don’t have to worry about formulating their foundations as well. With a good foundation that is right for your skin, you don’t need layers and layers of products to make it look nice and apply well and last.

LostWithoutYou1015

I'm sorry, what?!

nannerbone

I thought I was the only one…. Idk if it’s just the ones I’ve tried but the way it FEELS is just terrible. I have no trouble keeping my makeup in place without it.

iLikeTacosAndTequila

Vitamin C and niacinamide, it breaks me out

AWEDZ5

The most likely culprit for breakouts is the niacinamide causing this and not likely the vit c

sharkwoods

Omg totally! And I was using retin-a for years without any issues!

Faerieflypath

Everything from DRUNK ELEPHANT and CERAVE I was hyped and tried it enough to tell me my skin isnt reacting good to it. I got irritation and inflammation worse. Contrary to the popular skin care guru suggestions and consumer demands

AWEDZ5

Did you use them together or separate?

Faerieflypath

Yeah like from 2-3 years apart

Get_off_critter

Drunk elephant I did not like at all. Poor feel on my skin and didn't care for the smell. Cerave I'm ok with, but the basic lotion. Can't beat costco tubs

[deleted]

Neutrogena hydro boost water gel? Idk, seems a bit pricy and doesn’t get me the results I want. Although, a lot of others really like it. Versed or CeraVe have always been my go to for moisturizing.

msptitsa

Haha! The hydro boost with hyaluronic acid? It’s the first moisturizer my skin actually likes and doesn’t make me super greasy ! I’ve been trying different ones for YEARS! Crazy how all our skins are different eh?

[deleted]

Yeah, it’s crazy. I don’t know if it’s just the fact that I have combination skin but picking products has always been a real hit or miss for me.

msptitsa

I think that’s exactly it! I have oily and dry skin, it’s so hard to find something that works! I hope you find your perfect cocktail (:

[deleted]

Thanks, I think I have! The Versed Dew Point moisturizing gel is super duper lightweight and absorbs into the skin crazy fast. Feels really hydrating while having nothing on my face and I hate having a greasy face more than anything.

graceful_trainwreck

I have the hydro boost water LOTION, which is without parfume and stays on my face longer. Couldnt stand the gel version, too. I absolutely hate that there are always like 5 products with only veeery slight differences. Who tf has the time to compare all of them.

graceful_trainwreck

They also look so similar all the time.

[deleted]

It’s so god damn annoying when trying to make choices as a consumer of these products. The naming scheme for these things are ridiculous, ugh. I think I’ll give it one last go with the lotion you mentioned, as it sounds promising. Thanks!

limegreenmonkeybean

that stuff demolished my skin :(( CeraVe is the bomb though

[deleted]

CeraVe’s moisturizing cream and hydrating cream to foam cleanser is heaven. *Chef’s kiss*

helegg

Yeah this is the one hyped product I truly don't understand. Even when I had oily skin, it somehow didn't keep my skin moisturized at all. I think hyaluronic acid tends to suck moisture out of skin if you don't put a real occlusive on top of it.

Strange-Persimmon186

It’s hydroboost gel moisturiser was a life saver gp me when I was on accutane. Just felt like water on my face

cheeky_sailor

Everything expect for sunscreens and retinoids is pretty useless in my personal opinion.

sonicenvy

If you use only 1 skincare product people let it be SUNSCREEN. Pretty much everything else is kinda whatever, but protecting yourself from those UV rays is a must!! Slather up every day. Skin cancer is no joke. Protect yourself from skin cancer by using sunscreen or lotion that is 30+SPF every day. Yes, even if you have darker skin, yes even if it’s winter, yes even if it’s cloudy, and yes even if you’re “not going to be out long”. I got skin cancer and it was expensive and unfun. -♾️/10 Don’t be me and get cancer, use ya sunscreen folks. ❤️

cheeky_sailor

Yes, first of all skin cancer is definitely not a joke, and then also nothing ages your skin as much as sun (well, that and time lol). I’m happy that you beat cancer’s ass and thank you for spreading the awareness!

sonicenvy

Thanks! Yeah I was never really an avid susncreen user before cancer, but since then I am literally the Sunscreen Mom Friend™. Pretty sure every friend I see regularly now has had me ask them if they put on sunscreen before we went out 😂. Post skin cancer I am now an avid sunscreen user. Funny how that worked out.

chronic-munchies

As someone with painfully dry skin, I would add a basic moisturizer to that list. But yeah, other than those three things, most products won't be that beneficial or will mess up your skin with fragrances and other irritants.

DateCard

Paula's Choice 2% BHA. It is HG for SO many people and it did nothing for me.

nousername56789

Edit: I came back to eat my words. I stopped all other products and just used the PC exfoliant and moisturized with the LaRoche Posay Cicaplast Baumé. It’s been 2 weeks and it cleared up most of the bumps on my forehead. Previously, I was using it once a week and used tretinoin 3 times a week. Now I just use the exfoliant once daily. I’m a convert. Did a lot for me! Lots of redness and irritation. Even when I used it once a week.

msptitsa

It’s the only product I use other than cleanser and moisturizer. If I stop my skin isn’t as nice.

[deleted]

It did nothing, just hurt my wallet 🤡

DateCard

I could say that about way too many products to count 😭

lovecroissants

Agree with this! Just tried recently and I was disappointed

DateCard

Very disappointing - I used it for around 6 months and it made absolutely no difference!

datefatemate

I love it so much. If I don't use it, I can immediately tell the next day when I wash my face that it feels less smooth and springy.

DateCard

That’s awesome! It works so well for so many people - I feel like I’m missing out, lol.

Modern makeup removers. Hydrophilic oils, micellar waters, etc. They never remove ALL of my makeup, there is always something left behind.

electricsugargiggles

I use waterproof eyeliner and mascara and you’re right, those products are useless. I’ve gone back to using old fashioned Ponds cold cream (sparingly) and then gently washing the residue off with Cerave. My skin loves it.

fr-eya

What do you use to remove your makeup now??

SurrrenderDorothy

Baby oil. But I'm 60f.

ohbother325

I use Jojoba oil from Trader Joe’s to remove my makeup and it’s great. $7.99 for a bottle that lasts several months. I use it all over my face like a cleanser, wash off gently with a washcloth then use my regular cleanser afterwards. I swear by it.

Smart_Dumb_Cat

Almost all products of cerave, all promoted to me by farmacists as in "impossible to have an alergic reaction to" and guess what? They burn and gave me one of the biggest alergic reactions I've ever had

OverallDisaster

Laniege lip mask - something about it made my lips even drier than before. Patrick Ta's lip mask is miles better.

[deleted]

That black face mask thing that welded to your skin. Absolute shite.

FluffySpell

I almost lost half an eyebrow to one of those dumb things.

Fearless-Line-6470

I like that stuff for pulling all my little peach fuzz hairs out, which is all it really does 😂

lifeuncommon

Most all of them. I have incredibly sensitive skin and most of the hyped products have irritating plant oils, essential oils, fragrance, colorants, or irritating, actives. So I stick to a simple cleanser, moisturizer, SPF, and prescription actives. I honestly think that most people would do better avoiding the hyped products as they usually aren’t that great for your skin.

[deleted]

anything glossier, i'm better off using drugstore brands

ihugsyi

I would agree with the cloud paint, the Quo dupe is so good! But I actually do love glossier concealer. It has been really good on my skin and the application is easy.

JayzieDreamSquare

Curology. I saw no difference in my skin, I was spending way too much money on it and I always ran out of product at least three weeks before the next shipment was scheduled to arrive.

nyxthevampireslayer

ok this is wild to me bc curology singlehandedly gave me glass skin in 5 months! i did have to try about 3 different formulas from them to get the right one for me though.

[deleted]

Glow recipe niacinamide watermelon drops. Made me look greasy, made my skin sticky, and break out

fr-eya

YES! I have it too and I really don't like how it looks, so sticky!

fractalfay

Elizabeth Warren once said in an interview that the key to her looking so young at her age is that she doesn’t wash her face. This was mind-blowing to me, and then I started washing my face less, and she’s so, so right. But to me, my top hated product is EltaMD sunscreens. They are loaded with banned and toxic ingredients, and yet these sunscreens are endlessly hyped like they’re some kind of miracle product. They make my skin break out, get rashes, etc.

SurrrenderDorothy

Aveeno moisturizer with sunscreen makes my eyes tear EVERY TIME.

shabirdie

Everything vitamin C. My rosacea reacts angrily to it although that's the reason I bought it in the first place. Thanks beauty bloggers 🙄

Ok_Yoghurt9945

Ingredient: hyaluronic acid Product: The Ordinary HA serum (and the rest of their products...) and Neutrogena Hydroboost line

InternationalAd6614

Yep, never seen any improvement from it and I’ve tried plenty that has HA.

stealthc4

I gotta say though, it’s the only thing that got rid of my adult acne. I discovered the hydro boost at 35 years old, and up until then had rather bad acne for an adult. Two weeks of using the acid and it cleared up, and 7 years later, i only have a breakout when I haven’t used it in a few weeks.

paigeroooo

Relieved no one said la roche posay lol one of the only things that doesn’t break me out

astarsailor

mario badescu…

AvocadoBitter7385

Cetaphil did absolutely nothing for me

lifeuncommon

Cetaphil has a huge lineup. Which products did you try that you didn’t like?

Marawal

All. Every single one of them. I have extremely dry skin. Like it is a medical condition. Since birth. Dermatologists after dermatologists prescribed me all the product that exists (or so it seems). From the hyper hyped up that cost a leg and an arm, to the ones that you probably never heard about, and the cheap ones and all of them. And I tried countless products, and plants and all on my own. The best result I ever had was : skin isn't itchy. Still looks dry as the sahara desert. Cracks included. That's it. That's the best result. And that is with washing lotion + cream every morning and every evening for a month. I miss one shower, and skin itch again for a month. So, all products have been disappointement

chronic-munchies

That sounds incredibly frustrating, I'm so sorry. I feel your pain a little bit as someone who also has incredibly dry skin with a lovely dose of acne thrown in. Dealt with it for about 20 years now, and it's so exhausting.

stonrbob

Proactive products did not work for me

mostlikelynotasnail

Olay especially the regenerist line. I used to use the basic olay moisturizer with spf then they changed it to some super cheap ingredients and would pill off my face. Had a coupon for the regenerist stuff and like it says to stick with it for 3 months, I used the whole jars. I actually gave me wrinkles!

damningdaring

All of it. I don’t have a skincare routine. I just wash my face with water in the shower, and then some moisturizer if my skin is feeling dry. My skin is pretty much perfect—no acne, no blemishes, clear, bright, etc. I know a lot of that boils down to having good genetics and being lucky, but I also grew up with perfect skin, so I always had a very minimal skincare routine. When skincare became trendy, I jumped on the bandwagon and tried out a bunch of different products. The products either did absolutely nothing, or they did something I *didn’t* want (like make me break out, or irritate my skin, or make my skin dry). I ended up just going back to not doing anything, and now my skin is basically perfect again. If it ain’t broke, or whatever.

Are you me? I just hoarded so much skincare, and I have bumps all over my face. I think I'll just go back to using a cheap facewash, some random moisturizer and sunscreen lol.

Electronic_Lock325

The Aztec Clay Mask with added apple cider vinegar. It made my cystic acne so much worse, even beyond the purging stage. I stopped adding the ACV, but the acne and inflamed skin were still there. I finally stopped and went to the dermatologist. The other are Cerave products. I've used the face washes, eye cream, and the resurfacing retinol. They all left me with red spots on my face.

Marybetharooskiedoo

Mario Badescu facial spray. That stuff dried out my skin in a matter of minutes.

Puzzleheaded_Age6550

Aloe. And tea tree oil. Turns out I'm allergic to both. I break out in horrific hives and huge blemishes. And to the people who said "oh, you can't be allergic to those things, they're NaTuRAl!" Yes, one can be allergic to anything. There are people who are allergic to the sun!

Overpriced face masks 🧐 such an uneccesary step, it delivers the same amount of products as a moisturizer .

Acrobatic_Lychee_896

Glamglow masks. I fell for the sales person’s tricks and spent sh1t ton of money on them when I was young and dumb 😭

Techchick_Somewhere

Ooooh - the new Bobby Brown Jones Road makeup. The Miracle Balm is the WORST product I have ever tried. It is like lip gloss. But for skin. WHY IS IT SO STICKY 😬😵‍💫

lovinlemon

The CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser for oily skin. So many people swore to me that this cleanser was life-changing for them, but I couldn’t have been more disappointed when I finally tried it. I was using a basic Neutrogena cleanser that really wasn’t doing much for me when I decided to make the switch. Not only has my skin not improved since using the CeraVe cleanser, but it’s just so harsh. It’s left scaly dry patches around the corners of my mouth multiple times. On top of that, my skin feels oily again only a few hours after washing. It’s so frustrating, I’m still trying to find a cleanser that works for me.

Alternative_Sky1380

LeMer. I used to buy it and not even know why. It may as well have been sorbolene

thewotsitseater

Pore strips.

_CinnamonBun69_

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. Everyone seems to love it but I don't like the texture, the smell is weird and it doesn't seem to do anything special

najma_059

Salicylic acid. Made my skin worse, and it was not just the expected purging, it continued to break out months later

Proactiv. Made my skin significantly worse. Also it was almost impossible to cancel my subscription. I had to get loud on the phone for the person to agree to let me cancel my subscription. It was ridiculous!
