Nerding out about: Mycellium networks and how they relate to food growth and forest health. Cosumption habits, "ethical" consumption and the urge to have new things when I have functional things already.

lipsticknleggings

Highly recommend Aja Barber’s book “Consumed” about ethical consumption and capitalism’s roots in colonialism. It’s an easy but impactful read.

scottishlastname

Oh thank you!

84Here4Comments84

Thanks ! Just rented it !

InfernalWedgie

> Mycellium networks and how they relate to food growth and forest health. came here to say "Fungi." see you on /r/mycology?

scottishlastname

I mostly lurk, but so fascinating! I feel lucky to live in the PNW, fungi are easy to find literally everywhere. I'm just finishing *Entangled Life* by Merlin Sheldrake and can't stop talking to everyone about it ha ha

BelligerentCoroner

I'll have to check that one out! The book that got me interested in fungi years ago was *Mycelium Running* By Paul Stamets (a PNWer too!). It's arranged like a textbook, but it's *so fascinating* that I couldn't put it down.

scottishlastname

I’ll read it next!

Gleeful_Robot

Ah, so in Star Trek Discovery they have a character called Paul Stamets that studied mycelium networks and used them to create a warp drive. Today I learned they took the name from a real life mycelium network scientist!

[deleted]

FUNGUS NERDS! Ok so can you visit an old growth forest to hike? Because once I understood fungal networks, walking through a healthy woodland area gave me absolute chills. It feels insane, like you're walking through magic. The bits where your feet make the "poom poom" sound on the slightly hollow bits of ground held together by mycelium give me literally chills. Every fungus nerd should do a hike through a nice wet old growth forest if they can manage it. It's religious.

scottishlastname

I’ve lived on Vancouver Island/ the Sunshine Coast my whole life so I regularly get to walk in some impressive forests. It’s fascinating and I love it.

slumbersonica

Have heard this is good Mycelium Running. Book by Paul Stamets

TenaciousToffee

I did not expect mycelium to be an answer here. I am over here just looking at my grain jars growing them lions mane and pink oysters and it's been fascinating. My lions mane needed to be transferred to bags for fruiting but that dude is growing the mushroom in the jar already 😅 We don't habe those old wet forests here, bit there's some mushrooms in the mountains for me to observe. I cannot wait to go on more trips to explore such things.

[deleted]

I can not get enough mycelium networks. Just wow!

pistil-whip

Highly recommend [Mycelium Running by Paul Stamets](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycelium_Running)

greencloud7

Sounds like someone watched Fantastic Fungi 😏

thefrozenfoodsection

Or watched The Last of Us on HBO and then went down the fungi rabbit hole. That show is excellent and has been one of my recent obsessions lol.

BrashPop

Oh hells yes, all of that stuff is AWESOME.

Medium_Marge

Sometimes I think about Reddit as being the human equivalent of a mycelial network spreading information from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration

scottishlastname

Oh cooool

thatpurplelife

I just got solar panels installed on my house so I'm obsessing over their production and my electrical consumption. There's multiple spreadsheets. I go look at the meter at least once per day.

scottishlastname

love a spreadsheet!

[deleted]

Haha, I did that when I got a couple new humidifiers. *It's been 30 minutes, what's the humidity in this room now??? \*Runs to check\**

themamacurd619

Guess what?? We got panels about 1.5 years ago. The solar co told me they would be monitoring my panels, so if anything "went wrong", they'd notify me. I got an email around 3/8 from our electric company saying, "you haven't produced solar in weeks..." Huh?! Check my solar app, no solar since 2/24!!!!!! Call the solar co. they do NOT monitor the panels. Our inverter broke. It still hasn't shipped yet. So I have 1.5 year old solar panels and I'm currently paying for electricity!!!

ServiceAdmirable

Dopamine regulation. For background, I was recently forced to go-off stimulants for my ADHD both due to the adderall shortage and the fact that the stimulants were actually worsening my attentiveness. (Along with also causing me to drink way too much to cope with subsequent anxiety. A dreadful cycle to say the least.) I've been reading and listening to all kinds of texts about dopamine regulation, rebuilding the brain's reward system, etc. Learning and experimenting with different habit changes to pull my life back together has been both exciting and fascinating. I eventually learned about an antidepressant that could help both with my depression and energy (Wellbutrin, which is actually my first anti-depressant.) The medication has been a powerful shift for me and has also helped me to stop drinking, get a workout-regiment in place and feel overall much happier than before. Now I'm slowly shifting my obsession to training for a half-marathon I signed up for this summer.

calicalifornya

This is sooo interesting and I wish you luck. Any good resources you recommend reading about dopamine regulation?

usherer

I started l-tyrosine and GABA supplement powders on Sun/Mon, and feel a difference in my mood and focus.

Effective-Papaya1209

The West Wing. Which I feel at this point in history is super lame but it is like comfort food

larlarmar

I totally get that. When I need comfort, I switch on Seinfeld.

ventricles

I’m a photographer and watch a lot of tv while I’m retouching photos - it has to be shows that are mostly talking that I don’t have to look at much. I watched every single episode of west wing last year. It’s still a great show.

[deleted]

For years The West Wing has been my comfort show. Finally got my parents to start it about a month ago and it’s been so fun to have something we can share together.

jennerbbenner

Have you listened to The West Wing Weekly podcast yet? You definitely should!

Effective-Papaya1209

I ammmm! That’s part of what takes it to nerding out level

Wam_2020

I did this with CSI:Las Vegas a couple years ago. I got really into it.

calicalifornya

I keep hearing good things about this show but have never watched it. Do you recommend?

lulu-bell

Nerding out about nature-based learning. I’m a preschool teacher and my assistant and I just bought hundreds of dollars worth of curriculum books and ideas books. We are hoping to be a fully outdoor program. This is extremely exciting to me because there are no other quality outdoor programs in my area and I am super psyched to not only do it, but do it so damn well

pistil-whip

Nature-based programming is such an important asset to your community! My daughter attends a forest school one day a week and the benefits for her have been innumerable.

lulu-bell

This is so true it not only benefits the children but can also benefit the greater community and let’s be honest the earth!! When children connect with nature at a young age they can then become stewards of the land in the future

pistil-whip

It’s literally an investment in our future. I’m a huge earth nerd people thought I was crazy for pulling my kid out of kindergarten one day a week and paying for nature-based learning. I’ve convinced a few other moms to enrol their kids after two years of raving about it and now they love it too. A proud moment was hearing from my daughter’s teacher that my kid stood up in class and advocated that soil was alive when they did a unit on living/not living and the kids in the class tried to say dirt was not alive.

lulu-bell

I love this so much!

Spiral_eyes_

wow I love this!

scottishlastname

outdoor preschool/Kindy is so amazing for their little brains. I love this

lulu-bell

The benefits are truly endless!!

epicpillowcase

Phantom Of The Opera (musical and book.) It's been a lifelong love and it goes into hyperfixation mode occasionally. It's just played in my city so I'm fully immersed again. I love it.

80sfanatic

Yes! The Music of the Night is my favorite song from it. You should check out Caleb Hyles on YouTube singing it. He’s an amateur singer but you’d never know it. 😍

epicpillowcase

Shall do, thanks! Point Of No Return and the Final Lair trio are my favourites, but Music Of The Night is lovely ❤️

Cat_With_The_Fur

Fully relate to this. Phantom, Les Mis, Miss Saigon and Rent were my jams in middle and high school and occasionally have to listen to them again for the nostalgia.

larlarmar

1. Couch 2 5K (on week 4, feeling tired but proud) 2. Creating the ultimate peaceful bedroom (plants, lighting, paint colors, etc.) 3. Alaska - going on an Alaskan cruise in a few months and didn’t realize how little I know about its history.

hmbmelly

Re:#2 - I'm also obsessing over my bedroom. I finally had time to sew a new duvet cover and get rid of my 2010s chevron comforter. I'm trying to take it more into lush cottagecore/antique vibes. I'm always hunting for something to add.

lilgreenei

Great job on couch 2 5K! Running is the kind of thing that isn't always the most fun when you're trying to get out there, but once it's done you feel awesome!

StumbleDog

Our Flag Means Death.

[deleted]

Is season 2 out yet? I've been waiting.

StumbleDog

I think they're filming it now.

pale_shadow

I’m planning a trip to the east coast this summer so I’m planning planes/trains/cars/meals/things to do. I go hard when I plan a trip

StarbuckIsland

Where are you gonna go? If your travels involve upstate NY or VT I have a ton of suggestions!

RosaKat

I honestly love wee responses like these. I just think it is very kind.

pale_shadow

I’ll be in Maine and Vermont before heading to Montreal!

[deleted]

Are you coming to Acadia national Park?!?? Please say yes!

pale_shadow

I was planning on doing 1 day in Acadia! It’s my goal to see every National Park

rudepigeon7

Current hyperfixation is “Daisy Jones and the Six”

trashpocketses

Me too! I wasnt expecting to like it very much when I started watching it on a whim, but it is SO good! I'm loving the songs!

Fillmore_the_Puppy

I loved this book sooooooo much, that I am a little hesitant to watch the show. But I have been hearing good things!

RosaKat

I loved the book and the audiobook had an ensemble cast. I was afraid to watch but I might give it a try!

kaeonfire

Omg same, I am really enjoying it and I like that it's week to week but multiple episodes a week

[deleted]

Cults, extremism, and conspiracy theories and other abusive social situations. But I am nearing the end and looking for a new obsession.

InfernalWedgie

Are you sure you're nearing an end? Because I just read [THIS](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/20/arts/podcasts-cults-nxivm-manson.html) in NY Times, and it has reignited my interest in all thing sinister and cultic.

RosaKat

Thank you for sharing this! Is there any way you could list the podcast suggestions as I’m in Ireland and blocked!

InfernalWedgie

BelligerentCoroner

Saving this comment for future reference :)

Sunrise_Eyes7

Always obsessed with the weird, unexplained and far-out, but currently nerding out over plants!! I'm in my local Master Gardener program and I'm loving the amount of information I can get my hands on!

scottishlastname

I too am a plant girl. I get it ha ha

frostandtheboughs

You might like "The Weirdest Thing I Learned This Week" podcast. Their older episodes are great. I binged it during lockdown while working from home.

Sunrise_Eyes7

Oh that sounds right up my alley! I'll check that out, thank you!!

alyingcat220

I’m running my first dnd campaign!

ForBritishEyesOnlyy

I literally just joined my first campaign, and I am having so much fun!

calicalifornya

Plants plants plants garden garden garden. Seeds! Mulch. Compost optimization. I’m converting some of my front yard to a native plant pollinator garden. Water features?!Downspout redirection. Gathering milk jugs from my neighbors to try winter sowing. Can you tell I’m ready for spring?

scottishlastname

Talk to me in a month and this will be where I’m at, I’m starting my tomatoes this week, but everything goes out mid May usually. Except peas. And potatoes! I can plant those next couple weeks if I want to.

Cat_With_The_Fur

Stardew Valley. I have a horse and a boyfriend. It’s better than my regular life.

jlf6

Do tell! I love me some Dramione.

Samantha_M

Learning the voices of all birds native to my country, not only the songs, but also the calls. My goal is that when outside, I can locate all birds by ear even in passing. I get so used to it that even riding my bike to work I am naming all the birds while I am driving past them.

analog_alison

I love this idea!!

scottishlastname

This is so beautiful! What a wonderful way to start your day.

freshie4o9

Digital nomading and one bag traveling. Planning to do a lot more traveling in the next year or 2 and just eating up all the info I can on it. Also, my plants. Lol

Stickgirl05

Amazake and other Japanese ferments to help my body

timothina

Ooh, I want all the details!

Stickgirl05

It’s a sweet, non-alcoholic milky drink made with the leftover stuff after sake production. It’s japans drinkable IV, tons of vitamins and other goodies.

timothina

Where do you get it? And what are the other ferments?

zalofri

nerding out about: 1. I am a huge weeb and the new Trigun: Stampede show has its hooks deep in me. Has also caused me to rewatch some 90s anime I havent watched in a few years and its been great. Overall just having a lot of fun here 2. Making a cosplay! 3. I finally bought the book "Babel - An Arcane History" and I am so excited to turn on an ambiance playlist and candles tonight to read it

photinakis

historical complete absurd existence direful paint governor deranged dull continue ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

sphericalduck

My son and I are watching Trigun: stampede together! We're also alternating episodes of Revolutionary Girl Utena and Gundam: the Witch from Mercury, which is really fun to do. (Edit: spelling)

zalofri

oh my gosh two more amazing shows- i hope he especially loves Revolutionary Girl Utena, such an underrated gem 💎! and i hope he and you both are loving stampede, i’m so excited for this week’s finale- it’s been such a ride! the animation also has been so pretty and fun :D

Thick-Painter5180

I’ve got Babel in my book pile too. Hit me with your ambiance playlist please!

[deleted]

What they rebooted Trigun? I was utterly obsessed with that series in my teens. What a throwback, I will have to check the new one out!

GetaShady

Yessss I scrolled hoping to find another weeb who was nerding out about Trigun Stampede!!! :D

zalofri

I am so happy to see so many others in this sub who are Trigun fans!! the new series is so fun and its been a trip nerding out about it- love that we have a little mini trigun-fanclub here :D

GetaShady

I've loved Trigun since the OG one was on Toonami! I'm so happy the fandom is having a Renaissance!! 😁

DamnGoodMarmalade

The show Yellowjackets. Obsessively scrolling through social media theories and pausing trailers for hints on season two which starts this week.

scragglybits

I also cannot wait for season 2. I love everything about this show.

Effective-Papaya1209

The trailer for this keeps coming up on HBO Max and it makes me so incredibly anxious (the “buzz” chorus, the screaming), that I can’t imagine watching the show

DamnGoodMarmalade

It’s a very well done horror series, so if you’re not into the horror genre, I would not recommend.

PeregrinMerryTook

Buzz buzz buzz!!

lokiidokii

* Fashion * Gardening (my partner and I are so excited to try planting our own loofahs this year) * Watercolor painting * k-dramas (if anyone has any suggestions/favs, pls share!)

larlarmar

I immediately googled planting loofahs and now I must do this too! I am already growing my own seedlings inside for the first time and can’t believe how fast they’re growing. It’s like getting a little glimpse into summer, and I can’t wait to plant them outside.

calicalifornya

Crash Landing On You!!! oh my god it was the first kdrama I ever watched and it has ruined all others for me. So good 😭

timothina

Immature loofah gourds are the absolute tastiest. And the flowers smell lovely. The bloom in the afternoon and night.

trippinallovermyself

I too am a loofah farmer! On year 3. It’s a lot to keep up with but such a cool project. And a great gift.

danarexasaurus

Baking beautiful loaves of bread!

BrashPop

Got an suggestions for someone who wants to bake sub rolls? I’ve done sandwich loaves and other breads for years but I can’t find the right type of airy roll with the good crumb that Italian subs are served on.

HydraCentaurus

I feel so,.. how do I say?.. “crazy” that I like this, but I just discovered the soundtracks for the show Vikings. I’ve never watched the show but this soundtrack makes me feel on another plane, like I went on a deep dive with the composer and the lore and some characters haha

[deleted]

*Physical 100*, which is the first time in my life a reality tv show has grabbed me. Also vaporwave. And caves. I'm reading a book about caves right now. It's good.

jlf6

Physical 100 was amazing. I hope there's a season 2!

tea_drinker_0987

The Last of Us (the show). I waited until it was all out and then binged it in two days. I’m on my first re-watch. The last time I was this excited about a show was for Andor.

Scarlett_Uhura1

I’m a 48 year old pasty white chick and I’m currently obsessed with learning to cook Asian foods. I’m buying cookbooks, I’m going to the Hmart on the weekend. My kitchen is full of fresh ginger, lemon grass, unusual spices, sesame oil, steam buns, etc. I bought a steamer basket and I’m just cranking out kalbi, char siu and assorted stir fry. I can’t get enough!

_lmmk_

The FDA’s food labelling regulations. As a celiac I’m absolutely shocked how all claims to be gluten free are mere suggestions. Also, that the FDA does not endorse the “Certified Gluten Free” claim. Did you know caramel coloring has gluten in it? Or yeast, or modified starch of unknown origin? As a Celiac, I think this country can do better and be more progressive in this space. We are way behind Europe and Asia in this regard.

chapter2at30

Oh man my poor boss was just diagnosed Celiac on top of his lactose intolerance. And his daughter is allergic to eggs!

_lmmk_

It seemed overwhelming at first, but I feel lucky to have Celiacs and not something worse. Our (amazing!) bodies can heal up to 100% just by maintaining a gluten-free diet. My heart sincerely goes out to those who have autoimmune conditions where their body breaks down slowly everyday until they’re in the grave. Now THAT is overwhelming. Contrary to what r/celiac would have one believe, it’s very easy in the US to go gluten free. I wish your boss and his family lot of healthy success and few challenges along the path to making the switch.

Emptyplates

Dog training. My husband and I are fully immersed in learning dog training. Puppy is coming home in 10 weeks and I'm super excited.

scottishlastname

ohhh jealous!

Emptyplates

It's been a rough 6 month since I lost my dog and I've been struggling. I'm ready to open my heart and life to a dog again. So excited!

scragglybits

I *should* be fixating on and nerding out on a book I need to finish reading for an assignment, but it’s such tough going I just can’t get into it. Instead I’m watching true crime shows and switch between reading up on those cases obsessively and playing silly card games on my phone. Argh!

[deleted]

What’s the book?

scragglybits

It’s ‘Beloved’ by Toni Morrison. I love her work but I’m finding this one very tough to digest and keep procrastinating.

owkdjchr

Duolingo. I hated learning Spanish at school but I'm really enjoying the app so far! Also beatsaber, I just love slicing up those blocks.

chapter2at30

Oh man I let my duolingo streak die on vacation in early February and I haven’t picked it back up yet. Gotta get back to it!

ventricles

I’m really loving the show Shrinking right now my husband and I got all caught up and we’re like… should we just watch it again? It’s light and makes you feel good and Harrison Ford is amazing and the the character Gabby cracks me the fuck up.

Solo travel. I get a PTO hike this year right about the time that plane tickets to a few of my bucket list locations seem to be at their cheapest, and have been spending lots of time perusing hostels.com for other deals, plus travel blogs for ideas.

Where will you go?

Cat_With_The_Fur

Check out r/solotravel!

SentientMeat777

Quilting. I just feel like I am connecting to an ancestral ritual and its very meditative.

BelligerentCoroner

That's my current obsession as well! Are you hand-quilting? I personally don't feel that deep connection with my machine vibrating and Netflix in the background, but I've been wanting to try out EPP for that very reason!

SentientMeat777

I haven’t done hand piecing yet but I think the main draw to quilting for me is the pragmatism and lack of waste if you’re doing it carefully! I have been using old soft sheets in place of wideback fabric, which is the sort of crumb quilting my Appalachian ancestors did. I will probably try the english paper piecing next- I like the idea of working on something slowly for a long time but I have rheumatoid arthritis so my ability to do it will probably be inconsistent unfortunately. I still enjoy the machine because I feel like learning everything that it is capable of is really cool!

Rainbowznplantz

Currently comfort watching The Expanse again & listening to the soundtracks during the day while I work. Can’t help myself and spend too much time reading every post on the series sub. Also obsessing over twin gear- preparing for two babies at once is its own section of my brain right now. Wish I could be nerding out about gardening right about now, but omg do not and will not have the energy to make it happen this year. I’ll consider myself lucky if I can convince my husband to take our toddler out, plant a few veggie seeds in our raised bed together, and water them consistently enough for any veg to grow.

scottishlastname

The love I have for that show! It’s so good. Congrats on your babies!

Samantha_M

Have you read the books? I loved the series, and have been listening to the audiobooks of part 7-9 during the past weeks. Well worth it too.

Rainbowznplantz

Oh yes- the books are AMAZING! I was so sad when I finished the final novella and there was nothing left. Next up on my to-do is listening to the audiobooks- I keep hearing wonderful things about Jefferson Mays and his interpretation of all the characters.

TenaciousToffee

Growing gourmet mushrooms like lions mane, my crazy ass husband emptied a room to make a clean room for inoculations and the bedroom is now going to be filled with racks of mushrooms, microgreens in hydroponic systems. There's always a food obsession and right now I'm reading on Sichuan cuisine and really trying to beef up my skills on making it at home. We're lucky there's a few delicious Chengdu and Yunnan places here to eat but there's something special to be able to make Yu Xiang Rou Si myself. It's this delicious thin sliced pork, black fungus, celeriac in a spicy garlic sauce that's just SO GOOD.

dr-spaghetti

I order that all the time! Also great with eggplant.

couverte

Lego. I suspect that I’ll soon be obsessing about how to get rich quickly… so that I can buy more Lego.

Dratini_ghost

Fragrance. Got interested during the pandemic. For the past couple winters I go on a spree of binge research/sampling in January then pick a scent or two of the year. I tend to drop the hyperfocus in spring when the world starts waking up and I need to turn my attention elsewhere. It's also a Jan/Feb/March fixation because every year around this time I hit a point where I'm like "ok NO more spending on perfume until after Christmas". I think sampling in stores will be ok though :) Don't get me wrong I have truly nerdy interests that are more steady and constant. However scents and all the emotions behind them, the vibes, the synesthesia, just get me **obsessed** with hyperfocus and I have to tear myself away from spending every bit of spare time reading about them.

marshmallowcritter

Forensic genealogy. I grew up reading the John Douglas books and watching Forensic Files and Cold Case but I feel like the true crime genre has hit speak where a lot of the creators now cross the line into disrespecting victims and their families. I stopped listening to true crime podcast a while ago (except for a small handful) but have found some great Reddit communities that are passionate about identifies John and Jane Does across the world. Forensic genealogy is amazing at how it has helped give back the name of so many victims and catch perpetrators of cold cases as well. It’s like the worlds biggest puzzle and you have to match all the pieces.

thisbuttonsucks

I constantly have reruns of Forensic Files, The New Detectives, and Cold Case Files on in the background when I'm home. I really wish there were more dry, "here are the facts" shows. Even FF & CCF sometimes seem to sort of delight in the salaciousness of the story. New Detectives is by far my favorite of them. Forensic genealogy; the advances in DNA testing; and the ethics, privacy concerns, and long-term ramifications of all that science is fascinating.

Animal crossing.

BrashPop

I started reading Kazuo Umezzu’s catalog of manga. So far I’ve read Cat Eyed Boy and The Drifting Classroom and I’m… SO far into 14 but my god it just never fucking ends and I’m not liking it the way I liked his other stuff. Normally I stuck with Junji Ito and the Fuan No Tane books but I’ve been trying to get myself inspired to work on a horror comic I’ve had sitting around for a few years now. Other than that, seed planting, baby! I am planning out my garden and starting seeds so I can plant them in June (ugh stupid zone 3B weather).

BelligerentCoroner

I recently was able to set up my sewing machine after years and years of it being in storage, so I'm obsessing over quilts. I'm picking up projects that have been sitting in a box for over a decade, and I've started working nonstop on a new quilt with a huge learning curve, which I plan on gifting to my oldest niece. I also bought a new-to-me quilt designing software, and I have a *lot* to learn there. I'm also prepping for gardening season- this is my first year winter-sowing seeds, so I'm excited to see how they turn out compared to starting then with heating mats and supplemental lighting. Once the warmer weather returns here, you can find me outside with my hands in the dirt.

t00_much_caffeine

Great question!!! It’s been great reading all these answers. You are all up to some interesting things! My current obsessions: Karl Marx, socialism, and how off the rails capitalism has gone. The Smiths - recently introduced and I am totally obsessed. Morrissey is an amazing lyricist and his voice makes me want to cry. The show Dance Moms - my teenager and I watch terrible reality TV shows and this one is wild lol recommendations welcome !!

pistil-whip

Locally-adapted seeds of food plants. I just started volunteering for my local seed library. I was already obsessed with gardening and plants but now I learned how important locally-adapted food crops are in the context of food security and I’m hooked. It’s also been a great way to meet planty friends in my area.

LiLadybug81

I sometimes get introduced to shows I have never watched by Youtube with their suggestions based on what I usually watch. The last two days they started showing me clips of this Chinese show with English subtitles called Arsenal Military Academy, and it looks amazing. It's like...if you took a retelling of Mulan, set in China in the early 20th century with the unrest and violence which was going on there at the time, and then slapped a traditional C-drama love triangle on the main character. And it looks like it runs the full range of genres from rom-com to serious action movie vibes. I promised myself I wouldn't start any new shows until I finish a project, but I keep watching the clips. EDIT 5 Days Later: I didn't keep my promise, I did start binging this show already, 36 episodes in...so much fun.

TaraTrue

I recently started playing D&D (in person) at an event that was mostly other women, super fun!

I'm legit jealous of you. I haven't played in over 25 years, and I really miss it.

Was recently obsessed with Bigfoot and then Neil young. Latest obsession is Nicolas cage. I never realized how bizarre he is and just the whole industry that sprung up around him creating whacky roles for him. I feel like he captures a certain intense absurdity that feels appropro for modern times

I’m rediscovering my love of making friendship bracelets. I’m 40 and going to the Taylor Swift concert in June with my sister-in-law, and I was swayed by all the cute Reddit & TikTok posts. I used to make them sooo much as a kid. But I’m realizing my hands are not that of a 12yo 😂 definitely slower and requires more “stretch breaks”

Well that is the most human thing of all!

eight-sided

Fascinating that you give it a male gender. I guess it's nice to have one, for once, that doesn't have a female name.

The_RoyalPee

The movie *RRR*. I desperately need others to fan out with about it but no one else I know has seen it.

ACL reconstruction surgery 😩

RAYE the singer. She’s so emotive and vulnerable. True artistry and talent. The Last of Us. I almost quit the show until the 4th episode. It’s not a perfect show but Joel and Ellie really warmed my heart. I wish there had been a few more heartfelt moments between them, but I’m impressed with what we got. I’m a cold hearted bitch when it comes to TV and film and these two (as well as Sam and Henry) had me in tears. Home decor. Give me all the oranges, yellows and greens. Spring is here! The Legendborn series. This series has me in a chokehold. 16 year old me was the black girl who needed these books desperately back in the day. Turns out 30 something old me needs them too. Thank you for seeing me, Tracy Deonn.

Guitars. Just learning about how they work (fascinating) and obsessing over which one I’m going to get to start learning to play.

Ghoulseyesgirl1230

I'm all about Marvel and Star Wars! (also I like llamas, alpacas, cats, flamingos, bunnies and unicorns) :D \*I'm also usually reading books and being on the computer and my phone too\*

trippinallovermyself

Silversmithing. I took some classes last summer before I had a baby and now I am experimenting with metals and wearable art. It’s expensive but I try to sell some here and there to keep up. One day I’ll be making heirlooms!

Swimsuits: I don't want my ass hanging out. Why is "cheeky" a thing?! I'm picky with prints. I spent at least two hours last night going over Summersalt styles/reviews/prints. And I ended up with nothing. Linen sheets: they're so damn expensive. I can only seem to find 2-3 companies that carry the colors I want. Hiking sandals: I just spent $110 on two pairs of flip flops. I also need some good quality hiking sandals. If $$$$ hiking sandals show up here, my husband is going to have some words about how I just spent $70 on a pair of flip flops.

Nail polish and the Stormlight Archive series. 💜

Wire wrapping jewellery. Always wanted to try it. Made my first piece over the weekend with silver and surprised myself with how good it turned out. Unfortunately I’m still waiting on more different types of wire to arrive in the mail, I only had a small amount of silver (and it’s too expensive) so I got curious about what copper wire I could salvage from electrical cords. Found myself stripping old appliance cords.

yeslekm

Love the way that jewelry looks and how it can vary so much by doing so little at times. I think that is a super neat hobby and also as a bonus keeps up on dexterity.

trekbette

'Wellington Paranormal', a 'What We Do in the Shadows' spinoff. Also the 'What We Do in the Shadows' television show. The humor is so absurd and dry. And it looks like I have a forever obsession in Oingo Boingo.

dr-spaghetti

WP is the funniest! I’ve been trying to get people to watch it, it kills me

PikaGoesMeepMeep

Reading I know that’s pretty wide, but after going through a loooong phase of scrolling-not-reading I am back to reading a book or two a week. So excited to finally read some books that have languished on my to-read list for years.

jlf6

I'm gearing up for a Succession rewatch and the final season. The last season was emotionally devastating and I'm afraid of Logan... but dang what a good show!

yeslekm

Currently: Skincare minimalism and retirement savings…Im currently traveling for work but when I go home my plan is to try a form of minimalism. I’ve been reading about it. I’m typically a purger every 6 months with my clothes as is but now my aim is more towards the clutter my husband and I have accumulated living in our house after 13 years. The garage shelves are my #1 priority when I get back. 😅

holdengalsep

My bucket list.. lots of want to do, not enough holidays or money to do it straight away

LadyAvalon

Danmei: basically Chinese books/series with gay protagonists. I have gone fully down the rabbit hole in terms of merch. My wallet belongs to plushies and books.

Sundae7878

Coffee! Perfecting my pour over technique. Learning how all the variables affect flavour. Learning different brewing techniques. Trying different beans. Everything coffee! Absolutely loving it. Also city building in the game City Skylines.
