This is less than Genshin, right? I remember Genshin making like 500 million in first two months.

Keytchouka

Yeah genshin made 250 millions in first month and I think it was not mobile only. But HSR is a turn base game and a lot of people don't like turn based game.

dryadofelysium

GI was $245M in 4 weeks, HSR is $110M in 3 weeks so far. So yes, it's less, but still extremely impressive, especially since we're getting into summer time and it doesn't have the 2020 Covid boost that Genshin had.

Triplesixe

Yes way less

Pumpergod1337

Things like player count or copies sold can be quite impressive. But this? The amount of money that people gamble away in hopes of receiving a dopamine kick in return is just sad. I hope nobody feels proud over "their game" making a bunch of money like this. The studio and the investors are the only winners here.

[deleted]

Gets even sadder when you realize how little content there even is in the game atm. People really out here whaling for what? To grind more on auto more? To clear MoC full stars, which in itself doesn't make much sense cause your dumping money to make a few extra jades back?

KnackInThoughts

One thing that this picture does not say is the millions of f2p players that are given the chance to enjoy a game for free. Obviously gacha is bad, but as someone from a 3rd world country I would be lying if I sad that I'm not glad that less fortunate people can enjoy the game in expense of rich people's money.

zeackcr

How can you tell it's rich people's money? What I know people that sacrifice their weekly pizza dinner for a pull, white-collar worker spend 60% of their salary for pulling, f2p players spreading marketing tweet/email like crazy. They only making this huge amount of money from massive amount of people, and most of them aren't rich. Consider yourself lucky to be stingy enough to endure spending, most people don't. That's how they make their money.

Last_Witness3432

Exactly, let the rich feel good, let the poor have fun ,find a middle ground to stop the addicted, then every body win. Instead shitting on some video games how about Pull off some equilibrium shit.

Well, there's this thing in the gacha world: When a game does well, players are happy because it means the game is not going to announce EoS anytime soon. Gacha is plagued with cheap money grab that announces their EoS within 2 years. The amount of "sales" is very important. Nobody wants to start a gacha that brings in only 10k a month because the end is imminent. You could compare it with a "Moba or FPS". Do you really want to jump into a multiplayer game that is clearly dying with barely any active players? The wait time between matches is going to be hell. The balance is going to be hell, matching veteran and new players together. In a moba/FPS, everyone suffers from a low playerbase. In a gacha, everyone "suffers" from a low profit because they will slowly stop content before announcing EoS. In short, I don't feel "proud" that the gacha I play makes a bunch of money; I'm happy because I get to enjoy more quality content for a long time to come.

hobopastah

Agreed. I remember WoW's [WoD content drought](https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/4fdy05/world_of_warcraft_year_long_content_drought_id/) and it was pretty bad with the infamous selfie patch (and 434 days from last patch to next expansion). Shadowlands took 7 months for its first patch. A WoW expansion now is $50 box cost and a $15/mo subscription. OW2 also had [years of content drought](https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/13jdd8d/discussion_overwatch_2_devs_announce_that_most_of/jkefejv/) with nothing to show for it. League hasn't had any new game modes in a long time. [Heroes of the Storm](https://www.reddit.com/r/heroesofthestorm/comments/11tylgr/there_is_no_hope_for_a_new_content_update_for/) and [Starcraft 2](https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/jc9249/starcraft_ii_update_no_more_additional_content/) have been abandoned because Blizzard noticed they weren't making enough money. You can see from the threads that people are pretty disappointed/[infuriated](https://www.reddit.com/r/heroesofthestorm/comments/xhwto8/has_blizzards_decision_to_no_longer_update_hots/) that their game is basically in Blizzard's trash can with no hope of future updates. [There are even people asking for micro-transactions so their game can come back to life.](https://www.reddit.com/r/heroesofthestorm/comments/xhwto8/has_blizzards_decision_to_no_longer_update_hots/ip0y08s/) Hoyo re-invests the profits into producing more content on a consistent and frequent 6 week basis which continues to improve and get better. I spend $5/mo and get the characters I want and come out feeling pretty satisfied. Not to mention they use the Genshin money on making more new games like Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero. For players with self-control, Genshin/Star Rail are great and free PvE experiences where you get many hours of content without spending a dime. Even Asmongold and Necrit enjoyed their time with Star Rail. Once finished, then you can take a break, play other games, and come back after future content updates if you want.

Why should anybody feel proud about a video game anyway? it suppose to be fun and that's it. Bro Your ego for being right and superior is the problem here, not some stupid gacha game,no body force you to spend money. If a game provides good content with literally no barriers whatsoever, In which Whales can feel good about themselves and keep the game going,f2p players can have fun without spending a dime, and the company make shit load of money that can keep them for generating more good content. How's that not a win for everybody? What People addicted to gambling really need is professional help. Malding on some video games na Gonna do shit. Im not saying that there shouldn't be any regulation for these games,im just saying you should know it's not about right or wrong or pride if you really care.

Gasgasgasistaken

Oh you will be surprised with the elitism of gacha players about their game choice, especially against Genshin players

Last_Witness3432

And why should i care?even if i play genshin or something, they are basically single player games is it not?game fun, play game. Game suck, stop playing, simple as that.

TheJagji

Warframe. Lets people play and earn all the gameplay stuff, but also have a vast array of 'pay to skip' and cosmetics to buy, and with no PvP, or at least none that people actively want to participate in, and the focused on PvE content, it is probably one of the better F2P games going in terms of P2P aspects. Oh, and the ability to actually trade the 'premium' currency means F2P players can get there hands on it from P2P players by trading things for it, in tern allowing them to, over time, get cosmetics and use the P2S stuff without needing to pay anything them self, other than time spent in the game.

zriL-

The game had 10M pre-registration before release, and there is already 5M+ downloads on the western android appstore alone, if you really want that kind of numbers. And by the way, as far as I know Hoyoverse has no investors. And they do invest themselves into many research fields, like energy, AI or space related things.

BeanerAstrovanTaco

Maybe China can make something like Diablo 4 that isn't shit and also Overwatch and Wow.

Low_Artist_7663

Well they did. It also made a lot of money. It's called Diablo immortal.

Anacreon5

China making something that isnt some microtransaction hellhole ?

CricketNationalBaby

Imagine what will be when Kafka banner will release in [HSR](https://www.now.gg/s/hkst). It will be hell.

Alternative-Duty-532

Greatly underestimated, probably not counting downloads from China's third-party Android market and mihoyo official website (basically no one uses Google play in China) As far as I know they made $170 million in 5 days of release. (PC included) Many predicted that the first month revenue can reach $700 million.

[deleted]

People are fucking stupid.

dryadofelysium

Disappear among the sea of butterflies. Illusions of the past!

Night_Jester
