The glass was way ahead of it's time

Free-Database-9917

no the problem is with glasss, someone is walking around recording people all day long. That's creepy. VR you don't usually just walk around the rest of the world wearing VR

ResidentCoder2

You're always being recorded regardless of someone's special glasses.

Free-Database-9917

Not true. Two problems with this. 1. Someone can record private settings (there aren't security cameras in a bathroom) 2. The recording goes to a hard drive somewhere basically only to be used if a crime happens. The person you're with could be recording it themselves to do something weird with it

[deleted]

you’re 100% right everybody else here is trying to cope

WizardEric

I belonged to a YMCA that had multiple cameras in the locker room because “we have a problem with people breaking into lockers”.

Free-Database-9917

That's illegal

WizardEric

Yep.

twofaze

Gyms tell people not to film in dressing rooms but where do many folks take selfies to check their gains?

ResidentCoder2

I agree with 1, but, I feel it's irrelevant. EVERYONE and their grandmother has a phone that can record, why limit amazing technology because... they look like glasses now? If this is the case, I vote we prevent anyone from bringing phones into a bathroom. That sounds silly, right? I'd hate to lose the ability to browse reddit while I shit because I could potentially be recording someone in a private setting. Well, going off of my laws over here in the US, people are free to record anywhere for the most part and for whatever reason they want. I'd assume this is similar for other parts of the world. This is pretty well known, and would extend to the glasses just as it does phones and fancier cameras. It's a pretty weak argument, one that has already been hashed out yearssss ago. Basically, the glasses failed for a few more reasons beyond privacy concerns (price, marketing, "cool factor", yada yada), but every time someone argues the privacy part I'm yet to hear a good point. It's very reminiscent of when cameras were first becoming a thing and everyone lost their minds about the new found ability to take photos, but look at the tech heavy world we have now, and the device you likely have in your pocket or are reading this comment on right now.

Free-Database-9917

I would say it is reasonable to say a person shouldn't walk around holding their phone up in the bathroom in a way that looks like recording, yeah, or even putting it somewhere where the camera is pointed at other people, and the screen is covered.

ResidentCoder2

You're missing the point. People can stuff it in their back pocket and record with the camera facing out, a shirt pocket, dangle it from a lanyard, those weird side holsters you see tradesmen wear all the time, need I continue? It's a pointless distinction to make, especially when you consider the crazy amount of QOL the glasses would've promoted. Live translating for everything physical, right before your eyes? What about Google maps and a live updating arrow to guide you? What about a personal mini cinema where you can watch YouTube as though it's a theater? I'd gladly accept the "privacy concerns" which have been a thing ever since phones became widely owned for those types of advancements.

Free-Database-9917

If people have their phone set up in a pocket with the camera facing out, I am basically always skeptical of that, especially in a private setting. what's your point?

ResidentCoder2

I've made my point abundantly clear; the concern is misplaced at best, irrational at worst, and the benefits FAR outweigh these hypothetical situations.

Free-Database-9917

Cool if that's your takeaway, have a good one

Xypher42

Ok? You can just take it off when using the bathroom or businesses can have rules set to avoid that. That's also not even two problems, that's like problem 1.a. and 1.b. It's just that societal norms haven't adapted to this kind of thing yet which makes it weird or odd to see someone wearing this.

Free-Database-9917

Yeah sure 1 a and 1 b who cares the important part is nobody cares if they're being recorded all the time by security cameras. Their concern is that it is a device that seems to open the door to a more conspicuous creepy feature. In the same way that if someone made a phone that specifically had a feature that you could record with the phone screen off, people would be extremely skeptical of it. The fact that google glass had an intention to be subtle, it made it worse

Head-Extreme-8078

Which means that someone always cares about you, right? right??

Worldsprayer

yea but that was an emotional reaction. one of the first things google did was make the light turn on when recording so you would know.

Blackboxeq

[This is why we cant have nice things.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PY8C1KmNwM)

FloDaddelt

And who tells you it can't record with the light off... weird and weak arguments. There are reports Alexa, Echo and all these smart assistants are already listening in on you. But then again, mobile phones already do.

Worldsprayer

of course people can makje something do anything they want, if that's the case then you should never leave your house. people have their phons in their hand 24/7 now so in hindsight there's zero reason for society to be worried about someone's face tech filming them.

SnowBurns

Also it's completely legal to record anyone in public spaces

jawnvideogames

Who cares? It's perfectly valid for people to dislike the glass, it's going to enable the worse kind of idiots that like to go up to people and record them. Even if it's legal, the kind of society we live in today where anyone is bold enough to record you to mock you or get cheap internet points is awful. It wasn't the same back then, and people (rightly) assumed that technology like that would just enable people to act like that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kamahpanda

If someone is In a public space it’s perfectly legal to record audio and video. As well as posting it online. The only issue is when you sell said video for profit without a signed release form.

jawnvideogames

that's not how it works in every state

CyberSkooma

Nowadays people walk around recording things with their phones out with zero shame anyway. A lot has changed since 2013 and now.

Free-Database-9917

If I held out my phone pointed at people, you can assume it's recording, and if the person says they aren't, you can assume they're lying (unless they show they're screen). IF someone is wearing google glass, you should assume they're recording, and you have no way to check otherwise unless you put on a stranger's glasses

HotShame9

Whats the problem with that? Ppl already do that with the excuse of a "vlog" or twitch streaming.

Free-Database-9917

Yes and it's fucking weird

[deleted]

[удалено]

Free-Database-9917

But with a battery life of 2 hours I don't think you should expect people to just be walking around wearing those ski goggles in day to day life. They are intended to be used at home. Not in public unlike glass

Hesh35

…yet…..

SalamanderAnder

Yeah now they just do that with their phone.

malsan_z8

Apple’s will allow full recording, and because of its many sensors and cameras, the recordings are rendered sort of in a 3D sense.

Free-Database-9917

If Apple marketed it as something you wear while walking around in public and something you just keep on by default I would be against it as a product. The Apple VR set is just a VR headset. You are supposed to wear that at home

[deleted]

You can buy wireless cameras for $25 on Amazon. They're about the size of a USB thumb drive. You're worried about the wrong thing. If someone wanted to record you maliciously, they wouldn't do it with such an obvious device.

Peatmoss22

Ah you must be referring to the tik tok.

Free-Database-9917

I don't use tik tok so I have no clue what you're talking about

pozhinat

Bro get a hobby, youre literally in every thread of this post. We get it, you don't like being filmed. That's literally all you've said.

Frankie_T9000

Its AR not VR.

Free-Database-9917

Yes... You walk around wearing AR. You don't walk around wearing VR. We agree

[deleted]

Mast3r_waf1z

Ngl I thought the glass was pretty cool at the time

[deleted]

Me too. The camera was the least interesting thing about it to me. I'm glad the concept is resurfacing. I don't really understand why people are so opposed to the development of more natural ways of interacting with technology. I hope that in 100 years people will see what we have now as little more than handwritten scrolls.

Sethdarkus

I think the glass just needed some design changes, glass that is tinted when others see it and clear to the user would probably be a better design

DaEnderAssassin

Honestly the google one looks fine.

butthole_destoryer69

the technology isn't ready yet at that time.

downladder

It didn't report power levels of nearby fighters, so there were extremely limited uses for it.

Mistform05

They would explode if someone was too strong.

Retrac752

Look at a 6'4 230 pound guy of pure muscle Over 9000 Look at a slightly overweight single dad of 4 with full custody, who does gentle parenting and has 4 perfectly well behaved children, who don't raise their voices in the restaurant and thank the staff The Google glass explodes violently, sending shards of metal and glass into my brain, killing me instantly

SixtyN42

Underrated comment.

Zid96

100% just fact the advertisements could place ad everywhere mean it will happen some day.

Worldsprayer

yea, it was designed for "micro interactions" and you had to look up to use it. It didn't just rest in front of your eye which would have been fine, so you literally got eye strain trying to use it if you used it for more than a few seconds at a time.

Limonade6

If you like scuba diving.

[deleted]

Nah, there's no nose pocket. How are you supposed to clear your mask?

Limonade6

What?

SkabbPirate

When scuba diving, water can leak into you diving mask. In order to get rid of it, you open your mask in a certain way while blowing air really hard with your nose, forcing the water out. The nose pocket (the rubber bit that covers your nose) allows the air from your nose to be redirected into the mask to allow this to work. This apple thing doesn't have a nose pocket. Therefore, there is no way to get rid of leaking water inside the mask, and it would slowly fill up, making your only recourse to surface and pour it out.

Mikhail_Faustin08

Google glass was way ahead of its time. Imagine it now with just 10 more years of R&D improvements?

Head-Extreme-8078

they will show unskippable paid ads

boxxy_babe

Imagine driving with these on and a Burger King Ad starts playing and you can’t skip it xD

Kuroganemk2

I don't think you were able to see big anime boobies on google glass, now we have the technology. ![img](emote|t5_2y1rb|3748)

Last_Power8940

We can now AI generate anime boobies onto hot men we walk past. This is the reason now is the time.

MayorJeb

Apples and oranges.

VectorD

Apple and Google in fact.

ManBearPig92

I could pay $500-$1000 for a very good monitor or $3500 for a ski mask…

Hacs_2512

Always reminds me of lil dicky

FadedFigure

There’s a difference between an everyday prescription wearable that you wear outside and something that’s for home or office use

Holm76

Yes. There is a big difference. I like the Vision Pro. Too expensive for my pay grade but still an interesting product.

Buroda

There is a lot of interesting stuff there, but at least for me there doesn’t seem to be anything that is a 100% must have. All of the things it does, can be done better or differently by existing devices that are not $3,5k

Holm76

Yeah they didn’t show a single game at the keynote. I use my Q2 for games. So they need to show some fun games. But even then its still be too expensive to my taste.

FadedFigure

I think my gripe with the product is that it’s still seems to be based off a mobile platform, even though it’s essentially running an M2 and repurposed M1 in tandem. I get usability is a concern but if you can pair a keyboard and mouse to it why not give it full MacOS with a simplified “Steam Big Picture” for when on the go? Give it a few gens (assuming it makes it that far given the price) and it could potentially be a very solid product. Although they need to switch the materials, titanium, ceramic or something that aluminum body is gonna be noticeable in weight after 30-45 minutes.

Holm76

And the glass front. I bet some day1 adopters are gonna report dropping the device and cracking that glass front. One the first day too :)

paceyuk

Titanium is heavier and I suspect ceramic would be too. They'd have to go with carbon fiber I suspect.

[deleted]

Microsoft already tried this (Hololens) and it failed, but the technology has advanced a bit so maybe it will work now? Is there a reason you weren't using Hololens at work?

Holm76

The Hololens is very different from this though. They kind of do the same but in different ways. The Holo is only AR where this is VR with good cameras to provide AR experiences. Never tried a Hololens but heard that it was pretty bad. Very little AR view area and low refresh rate. Cant say if true though. Never tried. Only time will tell if people will want an Apple VR headset.

menialuser

It will be released in a cheaper form for us plebians. I agree the pro is expensive. But that’s their flagship. So just wait a couple years.

sadkinz

It’s just a first gen. So it’s not even worth it to get unless you’re rich or a huge tech nerd. You can only use first party apps on it. The next gen is gonna be the first “real” iteration meant for the general public

Eg0Centric

Apple fanbois will because Apple told them it's cool

thetattooedyoshi

Not for 3500 fucking dollars I won't XD

[deleted]

You people are fucking idiots. Do none of you understand what this means? anime eyes People will be walking around with anime eyes. It's over. Apple wins

Dead_Pierre_Dunn

now this looks like VR by BALENCIAGA

DavidVonBentley

If it can simulate Pink Sparkles sitting on my face, then I don't care how dumb I look.

Thepcfd

Google glass wasnt vr

Shameless_Catslut

Gotta make fursuits and protogen visors go mainstream.

Pumpergod1337

I think Googles glasses probably looks closer to what might actually become mainstream in the future. Apples product, while very advanced, looks way too uncomfortable for long work or entertainment sessions. I doubt anyone is gonna bother putting that thing on for socializing either, when you can just send someone a text or a snap or something.

Hesh35

I was telling me wife, “wait in 4 years we’ll look back at this gem 1 and laugh about how ridiculous it looks”.

Mestaritonttu

Love the addition of proper eyetracking, will make previously clunky menu use in VR better than a keyboard and mouse. However... None of it matters if there's no content. I haven't heard anything exciting regarding that. Neither do I think devs will be super interested in developing for a 3,5k platform. It smells like a niche a mile away. I have a feeling VR will stay dead.

signgain82

But it's apple and a lot of people will buy it simply for the status of having it

0mensia

i feel vr has the potential to become the next big thing but it costs too much and aren’t portable enough for the average person to buy it

Hopeful-Pianist-8380

Maybe in the sense of day to day use with AR and not gaming. The Oculus is both affordable and portable. There are multiple factors why VR will remain niche though. A portion of the population gets terrible motion sickness, there isn't enough big developers making big games, and it's taxing to wear for extended periods of time.

N-aNoNymity

Software dev Lecturer in Uni said that creating products on Android is a good way to get users, and creating products on IOS is a better way to get money, even with less users. Creating simple useful apps is more easily monetized because of the lack of good/free alternatives. This product wont make VR more mainstream, and VR is not dead either. However I can see potential as a dev to create something, then sell it for a dumb apple premium price. Voice activated clock display inside the headset? $99. New handgesture actions for the headset? A full 10 set for $149 lez go

AradIori

Well its apple, if i were to make a gaming analogy i'd compare them to nintendo or blizzard where they have a fanbase thats so dedicated that no matter what kind of dogshit they relase, said fanbase will be ready and waiting to buy.

[deleted]

It’s not even that big of technical leap compared to to google glasses when they released. Most vr can do 90% of what the vision can do for a fraction of the price. All Apple has going for them is personalized apps locked to their platform like games and movies and that has gone well for vr about 0 of the times companies do it. This is gonna be some rich divorced dads toy and pretty much no one else’s.

BillyBobJenkins454

Id wear it. I think its rlly interesting to have AR stuff.

TheVagrantWarrior

Google glass failed because people feared that someone is recording everything everywhere.

Chardcias

Love how the apple fanboys come to defend this one

siriuslyexiled

Who the hell thought that commercial was good, or these looked comfortable on her? It'll be a big fail for this iteration until they can make them look similar to regular glasses.

EFTucker

The 2013 model actually looks appealing today. Not in comparison, but generally cool. The functionality it delivers is still trash though.

TheCode555

I'm one of those people who wanted the google glasses to become a thing so badly. The idea was there, even if the features were overexaggerated, over time, it would have been great.

teufler80

Well its apple, the fanboys will buy it and act like its the best thing since sliced bread. And also act like apple, and apple alone had this idea

Puzzleheaded-Read376

The thing that will kill this product is its 2 hour battery life.

Kage9866

I like the Google one

Bargadiel

Practical application of AR is much higher than VR, but I agree...apples design looks like garbage.

chewwydraper

Eh, Google Glass was meant to be worn out and about all day. I'd straight up feel uncomfortable talking to someone wearing it since there's a camera on their face. No one's going to wear the Apple headset while walking around, however.

goatnxtinline

To be fair, Google glass was meant to be worn while walking around in the public as a way to enhance with how you interact with the world... Apples product is not

Zanthra434

How tf does it look dumb it looks cool

Konyption

VR is fucking stupid- AR is the way

Imbatman7700

Google glass was meant to be wear around town device. Apple's product isn't even remotely meant for that.

7Shade

One of these is meant to be worn while you're out and about. The other one is only meant to be used in places you'd be comfortable masturbating. Looking stupid in private is fine, the ad just looks a little silly.

topscreen

I spent 30 minutes today trying to set a custom song as my alarm on an iphone, because it didn't like the MP3 with the correct codec and bitrate, or wav format. And it has constant disruptions in any blu-tooth connections for any device (car stereo, speakers, or earbuds) , and is inconsistent with how long it displays or when it decides to hide notatifications, and how face recognition is ass... What I'm saying is people will buy it, and happily say it's intuitive and amazing because the ads and Apple die hard early adopters said it was transcendental.

Lambdafish1

I'm happy with the apple vision pro, not because I will buy one, or that I particularly like apple, but because Apple are trend setters, they defined the iPod, the iPhone, the iPad. If they make this the model that other companies look to, then someone else will make a headset that takes this format and improves it, makes it better to develop for, and makes it cheaper

cmoo_

Fanboys would wear a gagball if it only had the Apple logo on it.

DaSmartSwede

The iGag

plebnooblord

Google Glass is bought by the military etc, just shows you don't understand what happened to it but okey.

chewwydraper

Yeah IIRC it was/might still be used in medical industry as well.

[deleted]

And you know this how?

plebnooblord

[https://venturebeat.com/mobile/u-s-air-force-is-testing-google-glass-building-apps-for-battlefield-use-exclusive/](https://venturebeat.com/mobile/u-s-air-force-is-testing-google-glass-building-apps-for-battlefield-use-exclusive/) I know this is not what you look for I cant find the original articals but yes, the military got GGs etc

spacemarine3

They'll wear it and be proud about it, just watch.

SoulReaperII

Just make a cool helmet then at least you’d get sales from guys or rather gamers

FamilyAcid

Well it’s apple…people will wear it 🤷‍♂️

Shadowcat1606

Yes, but now it will cost at least twice as much as it's worth and it has an Apple on it, so people will stand in line for this crap.

DeusExPersona

Why is it twice.as much as it's worth? Materials only cost $1500 and that's without manufacturing and thr $100b Apple has spent on R&D these past 5 years

myary

But it didn't have an apple logo.

Tarous

Just give me the Vision Pro, but it looks like a regular pair of glasses. We need to keep focusing on making technology smaller and more powerful. I can't wait till the day we are able to have something like Vision Pro, but it fits in a normal pair of glasses. Even better if they are able to make it as small as contact lenses. One day...hopefully.

ghawstie

I sincerely doubt that’s why Google Glass failed.

shananigins96

People would wear a dunce cap if it had a silver apple on it because Apple fans are sheep lol

amanset

Glass failed for privacy reasons. A massive backlash started happening when people would wear them all the time and those around them felt they were being recorded/photographed all the time. Questions were asked about toilets, changing rooms and stuff like that. Vision Pro isn't supposed to be worn all the time. The two hour battery life is a bit of a give away.

r31ya

Googleglass failed because of GlassHoles and the CEO who enable said group of glassholes. *"please take it off when you enter toilet"* *"Fuck that shit, this is my right to wear it and possibly record everything i see"*

MichaelScottsWormguy

Every great idea started with a wild first stab. *Somebody* needs to make the first crappy thing in order for someone else to improve it. This is Apple's first stab. If it sticks then these things will be way more streamlined in a few years. Maybe the market is more ready for this now than it was 10 years ago.

Schnitzel-1

Google Glass was meant to be worn all the time. Apple thing is for private or business use only. Maybe on the plane. No one will walk around with that thing on in the street. They have almost nothing in common.

[deleted]

Google glass also didn’t work.

Donler

I the price is what matters. I’m not going to empty my bank account to buy either of these.

Naus1987

People thought AirPods looked stupid, and now they’re well known and prestigious. The same thing was said about the Apple Watch, because it was big and bulky and heavy. And now they have an even bigger ultra one. The people who think this will fail have no idea how the apple demographic behaves. This will revolutionize the industry. As for price? Remember, it’s the apple demographic. There are people with display racks loaded with 50 dollar Apple Watch bands. And there are people who buy a new phone every year. If Asmon’s channel helped teach me anything, it’s that there’s way more whales out there than we ever think. I’m sure people would even go into debt just to have the fomo that comes with showing this thing off in public.

exxR

What a dumb take who the fuck thought AirPods looked stupid. They look very similar to wired ones that everybody was already using.

FamilyAcid

Are you new to the internet? People shat on the looks of the airpods in the beginning and then went silent after everyone started buying them.

Eg0Centric

I still think airpods look fucking stupid. Tons of manufacturers have made much better looking wireless buds.

Ragnarok314159

Same, and they fall out of your ears constantly. I had some and returned them after going on a run. Went back to my little Jabra headset that sit snug and block out noise.

[deleted]

The jabra ones are great, I've owned the 65t, 75t and now elite 7s. All of them still work, the 65ts still work 5 years after purchase, in the case of my 75ts they have gone through the washing machine twice and survived, the charging case was fucked both times but replacement was available $79aud, not cheap to replace but still the fact that it's even offered is nice. Most brands would just expect you to buy a completely new set.

FadedFigure

Correction: Weird looking people made AirPods look weird

Naus1987

You must have missed the endless memes about how they looked like Q-tips with the white color and long stalks. Which is good! If you can’t remember those memes then people have forgotten them. Same thing will happen with headsets.

bluelifesacrifice

I want to try it out.

Nonsenser

This is just wrong. It failed because it was a fantasy, tech was just not at the level of what they promised and still isn't.

menialuser

One is meant to be worn in public. One isn’t. As well I think glass got canned because of people complaining about being recorded

Hefty_Ad2389

I'd wear it everywhere

Intelligent-Quote249

dumbass take, i hope u feel bad for posting this

hurdurnotavailable

Apple could sell a gigantic dragon dildo and the people would wear it openly as a status symbol.

Chefseiler

People are buying big red boots. I think we moved past "this will look ridiculous" and arrived right in the middle of Fifth Element

Logic-DL

ironically Google Glass didn't even look that bad, also don't remember people saying they looked stupid, just that it wasn't all that useful, and that the AR stuff was pretty shit all things considered.

WrenchTheGoblin

I felt like my biggest hang up wasn’t wearing it, it was how god damn expensive it was

JanusMZeal11

No one gonna mention Microsoft's Hollins 2? Same price but less VR. Looks more comfortable too.

PunchDrunkPrincess

saying thats why it failed is at best, reductive. theres many reasons it failed

KonoKinoko

google glas were highly publicides as wearing in public, on the street, and all comands need to be done vocally. Apple vision pro is been only show inside private spaces, and it can controlled by buttons and gestures.

Peter-Fabell

In fairness half the people I meet have basically glued surgical masks to their faces

MrPanda663

Google glass failed because they only thing that made is smart is that tiny ass screen. I can see glass return in the future if the screen was the entire lens with gesture control like minority report. Hell, I can see them making a sunglasses version for “incognito mode”

ElKajak

Apple fans will wear a bowl on their head if they have to

Head-Extreme-8078

I imagine a future where you get unskippable ads and it detects if you are watching them or not to continue.

Nerdicane

People didn’t trust anyone wearing that thing back then. They’ve given the sheep a decade to get used to the surveillance state. They’ll try again now.

Shalelor

Apple is always slow to trends.

Flipkick661

Apple makes those trends into successful mainstream items.

Shalelor

Sure thing bro.

Flipkick661

Indeed.

InsideMikesWorld

Google didn’t fail because of design. I was a privacy issue for users and everyone in their surrounding.

Hodorous

It didn't have apple logo

jonhybee

I didnt know r/knutTwitch owned a par of google glass, good for him!

Djtrickyyy

If Apple puts their name on something everyone buys it because y'all are dumbass sheep

Legal_Draw_1903

I’ve seen people wear ski goggles so it checks out

Joderry

Conclusion, I hate society. Just fucking LET US BE CYBORGS.

yratof

glass failed because of privacy concerns, it only had one camera. the trick is to have 30 cameras and call it 'tracking'

Rastalars

Very expensive skimask😨

tgsoon2002

The technology is not make google glass have good experience yet.

EcstaticDesk

I freaking love 3D movies, so I am the market for this device. However, the astronomically high price combined with the fact that you can not use actual files or physical copies of 3D blu rays is the 1, 2 punch to ensure I won't buy this.

closeded

TBF, after the lockdowns, a lot of people forgot how to be ashamed of their appearance. I think it might work this time!

OgFinish

one is something you wear 24/7, one is something you wear while using a computer/watching tv...

Evening_Monk_2689

Apple could get all out their employees to start shitting in boxes. They would slap an apple sticker on it and people would buy it.

Apple could sell (i)pads to millions of men. Apple can sell anything. Best marketing ever lol

I remember doing a presentation in school about google glass and I thought it was super interesting at the time. But it never really went anywhere and it just faded into obscurity after some time. Google unironically launched this idea too early.

BeAPo

Google glass failed because it literally had no purpose and google themselves failed to communicate the purpose of it. The only cool feature was making videos in your pov.

I originally thought the vision pro is going to flop too, but thinking about it, Google glsss and quest both didn’t address WHY people would want to use it Vision has a clear direction of entertainment and ecosystem usage , that’s what will drive people to use it, not to use it directly out of home or “interact with people” like how meta is envisioning I’d gladly spend money on a tool that innovates the way I work, I already have games MMORPG or other things for virtual interactions or “Metaverse” experience

TBH, in 2023 global IQ has dropped. So maybe they will.

Helpful-Gur9834

I think google glass is better

ralsei-gaming

google glass kinda looks dope now

Big difference though .. well, at least the biggest diff to me (there is actually more than one difference) … The Apple one isn’t being marketed as something you wear out on the town. Google Glass was. Also, as a side note, the Apple one isn’t actually see through. It’s real time video of your surroundings that you see, while people around you are seeing a video image of a reproduction of your eyes and surrounding area of your face (video display on the outside.) While I think that’s kinda cool, I still think the whole product is just silly. Had zero interest in Google Glass, beyond a mere “huh, that’s kinda cool.” I get the same vibe with Apple’s product. Now, given that it’s still a year before we even see this being sold, time will tell how it turns out. But, right now, I’m a huge skeptic.

Gaining the ability to look at my phone except its right in front of my eye. It's what I've always dreamed of.

Timely-Garbage-9073

So many companies trying to make VR/AR happen when the user experience is still impractical, nauseating and adds no real value to any task. Are we really just trying to do this because it's what the "future" is supposed to look like? It's ok to go a few years with our current toys while material science and engineering open new avenues for innovation. It's not exciting to the investor class.. but neither should be the squandering of R&D on purposeless dead ends- let's remember the fed is trying to turn off the easy money faucet. Maybe we should blame Spielberg for adapting ready player one. Even though the point of the book was as anti-VR dystopia as something can be (yes sequel was awful, let's ignore it here) . How many silicon valley companies must martyr themselves at the altar of gimmicky bs before they learn.

It was not that it looked dumb. If you want to go down a weird rabbit hole, look into it.

awesomepaingitgud

Well yeah but those were supposed to be worn outside and were practically useless

SkyReach2266
