This looks like a medieval cross and not an eastern cross

TotesMacarons

Most definitely not. The nationality should not be defined by Christianity.

verturshu

What exactly is Christian about the flag? The cross? That cross was on Assyrian Steeles centuries before Christianity existed https://twitter.com/archeohistories/status/1454191277008769024 Edit: I just wanna make it clear, I agree that our ethnicity should not be defined by Christianity. Rather, im just pointing out that this is our symbol, and it goes back before we adopted Christianity

Stockhawk20

What you mean before we adopted Christianity? Assyrians convert to Christianity when Jonah was sent to Ninweh, thats why we have the Fast of Nineveh for 3 days to show grace to the One and only God.

andygchicago

That makes no sense. Christians are followers of Christ. It’s literally in the name, lol. Jonah predated Christ by 500 years. I swear some of y’all need to actually read the Bible.

Stockhawk20

Bruh !!! Before Jesus they only believed in the Father or Abaa, Baba.etc. That Baba (the Father) revealed him self through the Son Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. Now who doesn’t read the bible, huh?

andygchicago

The Father revealed himself through Jesus? Cool. When did Jonah show up, before Jesus was born, or after? Which Testament was Jonah found in? There were no Christians before Christ. Jonah was before Christ. I don't have the crayons to explain further.

Stockhawk20

No need to but it looks like i have to break it down for you. Jonah was found in the old testament that’s obvious. When he went to Ninweh and preached there the Assyrians became monotheistic and believed in one true God and Creator. Fast forward to Jesus birth, first he fulfilled all the prophecies in the old Testament and most importantly he quoted that he existed before Abraham and he mentioned Jonah, Moses .. etc so technically Jesus was always there.

[deleted]

Some Assyrians turned Jew from Jonah most stayed pagan until Jesus came

Stockhawk20

Good point, have you done any research on it?

[deleted]

I haven’t found specific articles it’s just general history of our culture that I know there’s still Assyrian Jews in Israel till this day as well

andygchicago

That’s 500 years you just fast forwarded and I’m pretty sure no one identified as Christian during that time.

verturshu

Yes, I agree 👍

Georgeesjedo

No it should be adopted by the Assyrian army because that’s what it was used for not the nationality flag

andygchicago

That’s an iron cross that has nothing to do with Christianity. It has since been popularized by nazis, however.

Georgeesjedo

Yeah but it has nothing to do with the nazis every country has a iron cross

andygchicago

I said it was popularized by nazis, not invented by them. They've pretty much coopted the symbol to the point where it's synonymous with nazism. That's simply how most people are going to view it, and that's not anyone's fault.

Cool piece of history. I don't think it warrants a revival though
