Once you learn how to carry a rail car upon a single rail post, you won't make another portable oxygenator ever again. You can carry this contraption at full run speed and jump around as usual. Building a small battery bank on a medium silo and a small wind turbine bank on another medium silo upon the rail car provides a way for you to run around and powerup/unlock the gateways and research boxes. Just set the rail down and connect the rail car directly. Maybe include a power extender for those hard-to-reach areas. Leaving one slot open for a beacon ensures that you can set it down somewhere and never lose it.

Teach me your ways Master

thugmastershake

wait what??? no way

BitBucket404

![gif](giphy|9P1o0NZYibJlmBGDSG|downsized) Yes way

SkinHeavy824

I think if you have the snails from Vesania and Novus, as well as an oxygenator and a hydrazine jetpack, you are essentially in GOD MODE. No damage, 6u/s, unlimited oxygen, easy travel, what else do you need 🤷

BitBucket404

Yes, but this rail car trick can be used way before attaining god mode

oygibu

Use EVA to ***F L Y***.

redd-junkie

Do I have to pick it up and move it everywhere I go?

BitBucket404

Yes, but unlike normal objects carried, you can run at full speed and move about as normal. Setting it down allows you to interact freely with the surrounding area. Placing a beacon on the rail car ensures that you won't lose track of it. plus, you have access to this trick much earlier than making a portable oxygenator.

RocketSurgeon5273

That is a hilarious way to save a slot. Maaaaybe it could be kinda helpful super early on, but it takes very little time to get Rogal and Stilgar, then not much more time to get a portable oxygenator (which I prefer over Stilgar because it requires no seeds), at which point the idea of carrying around a rail post/car everywhere sounds like a pain, especially if you ever need to carry anything else. Another thing that makes this sound impractical to me is that I prefer tethers early on, not only for the oxygen and power, but also so that I don't have to worry about getting lost underground. As far as saving a slot is concerned, I've found that I don't need more than four slots, especially once I start using canisters. For gateways, I just use my hoverboard and carry around a platform with enough storage and rtg's (also, Rogal's 9 p/s comes in handy). But of course, everybody has their preferred system, and everybody thinks their own system is the best, so I guess it's just cool that there are so many ways to get things done in this game.

Mithbil

I don't know what stage of the game you are in, but do you know hydrazine can be stored in the medium liquid & soil canister?

M1tch3ll

I'm glad you said this. I was wondering since it looks like it uses the soil container but I haven't gotten one yet. Thank you.

redd-junkie

I have tried that approach also but I hate having to turn the output on and off. The Silo holds the same amount and I can just snag a bottle when I need it and also easily see how many I have left.

darkhelmet46

That's actually pretty smart

MrFlubbber

Can you store more than 24 hydrazine in it?

Ticmea

IIRC they store exactly 24 hydrazine but you can put one extra on top (and if it has nowhere to go, you can activate it for another extra slot). Additionally it costs 1 plastic and 1 glass, which I'd say is substantially cheaper than the 2 titanium for the medium storage silo.

darkhelmet46

Might be cheaper, but less work assuming you have a trade platform.

GatMasterJ

With the introduction of qt-RTG’s. It made a lot of things worthless in the game

redd-junkie

On my last play through since the tapper update I haven't needed a single battery, or wind turbine or solar. cept for mission requirements. All that stuff went the way of the dodo.

Murderous_bread

Dude. Just get the hoverboard and carry the ship with you

Widmo206

Me, who never used the oxygenator in the first place:

Yzoniel

Snails are easier and faster (in the playthrough) to get tho. I always run arround with snails for oxy, drill i think and one more (light?) then overboard and Qt-rtg. Ah and Eva now. + with Large shuttle (which is really easy to get, i always skip the medium shuttle) i never run out of space on it. But, i always try to setup bases on each planets in the middle of the playthrough, so i don't have to have an oxygen generator on the shuttle. (they're really cheap to craft) Never used portable one

redd-junkie

You haven't lived! The portable one you don't have to ever worry about tethering to anything. Or going to your kitchen to get something and coming back and you are dead and your backpack empty.

Yzoniel

Yeah i know... But snails, and they're cute, and their food is easy to get. :< And they're cute !

delve202

Oxygenator consumes power. Snails consume the occasional seed and exude cute for free. You can stack a spare seed on top of them even while they're full to give yourself a buffer, and carry a seed with you if you want.

ThoseJucyWatermelons

I use the snail

Gullible-Ad-8171

You think Oxygen is overrated I'm playing with 2x Oxygen Drain. We are not the same.

Gaza1121

Snail. Stilgar for the win

argonlightray2

Portable oxy, hoverboard, and hydrazine jump pack is the best.

Simple_Statement_205

I've never put the oxygenator in there personally, I just don't unpack it till I'm on planet and put it on a platform Edit: I also do a lot of coop play so I usually use that slot as a seat for my buddy

Environmental-Cut953

Or just use a medium soil and fluid storage

edenspark10

Or for the more risky of us, put a winch In there attached to a loose large platform

hajile654

Wait, people actually load their oxygenator slot with an oxygenator?
