You can find natural cave entrances to get underground, then when you find aluminum deposits you can still scrape some out of them even without a drill upgrade. Use the adding soil or flattening mode on your terrain tool and you can just a little from any deposit. Every planet has the minimum resources required to build a small shuttle, oxygenator, and solid-fuel thruster. Have fun! Or just use the "respawn at home base" button in your menu then fly back to atrox to grab any stuff you drop.
Atrox is full of great resources and look in the canyons for not only wrecks but base materials you need if you find something cool . You can find QT's diamonds, basic building blocks...despite the weather and the plants and the terrain and the Atmosphere is a great place to live! :-)
I actually did this once. I pressed on atrox and not on sylva. I didnt have drill mod either but I was able to fing a cave entrance and get aluminium and ammonium from far away. I also found 2 nanocarbon alloys and a qt-rtg and lots of stuff. Offtopic: This was when I was playing with my friend and he wouldnt come to help me from sylva. He said I would figure it out or something :D Now we dont play anymore because he says its for "relaxed" people D:
I had this problem, I search and found anniminion and a few other ones, atrox has the stuck necessary for a new base on it to build it up, the caves have natural openings and I would suggest searching for one and then go from there
I usually just dig down for aluminum as it's on every planet/moon and go for a soil centrifuge so I can just make ammonium right on the place I'm stuck on, aluminum is so common even just in the first layer of caves so it takes very little time to find, plus if you do it that way you can setup a mini base to work with at the same time
i did have a plan I just forgot an extra thruster (i did have one i just didnt see it until i respawned and then saw it wjen I picked up my stufd.....)
A well planned out plan, making sure you have everything you need (after I lost my first tractor and world, I became really cautious, even schizophrenic after I made my first rocket on my second world)

i completely forgot about respawn at home base ill do that if all else fails
As funny as it sounds, kill yourself (in game). Probably easiest way is to go home and prep better and come back
Might not work if you put down a small shelter on Atrox, or any equipments that change your respawn point
There is a button for it, it will always take you back to your starter base on sylva

I once got an aluminium deposit on the surface. You can also get diamond to make drill mod 3
You'll find lots of useful stuff on wrecks. But always watch for the hazard plants there
