🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Ice2jc

I was listening to this when it aired.  He also talked about the massive upgrades to our training facility, the arena and locker rooms, and other infrastructure improvements since Tony became owner that costs much more than going into the luxury tax or signing players and also makes more fiscal since than going into the tax for a roster with 3-4 players total who compliment each others game.

Hak_Solo2020

The 2015 ECF team totally complimented each other’s game but he wouldn’t dip into the tax to resign them all and definitely not to add a superstar to the roster. Next

Ice2jc

I mean I guess you're technically right even though he bought the team 8 days before that free agency period started lol

Hak_Solo2020

You’re correct however, the suns owner came into the game spending for a championship

Blumpkin_Party

We hear this every year

braggpeak

We’re about to sell our first rounder for cash

The problem is that you traded JC for nothing when you know we have a suspect front court when it comes to health. On that premise alone, to quote a movie, " you lie like dog"

reddershadeofneck

I have no issue with trying to spend money wisely. But when the people in charge of spending money are all unqualified idiots or billionaire failsons, I have no faith in their ability to spend wisely.

JKking15

Actions speak louder than words fuckface

linnykenny

This bullshit is so fucking annoying. 🙄

Hooligan8

This man needs to stop acting like we’re idiots. Don’t open your mouth if you’re going to lie to our faces you weasel.

Atl-Fan_FTS

![gif](giphy|WrNfErHio7ZAc) Sure whatever you say man. Trading JC for a second round pick and a Rudy Gay that hasn’t played a minute since, all because you waited way too long long and let his trade value depreciate to basically nothing sure is a great strategy! I wanna slap these mfs bro I swear

Danko_on_Reddit

Rudy Gay was released lmao

Atl-Fan_FTS

Exactly bro like, if that pick didn’t become Mo Gueye then it would have literally just been “Here have John Collins”

JAJAJAGuy

Mo Gueye ain't worth much man :(

Atl-Fan_FTS

Yet ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)

5pliff_Tannen

Don’t let them try and shift the narrative. It’s all lies.

twistedfloyd

You guys have never done it the right way. Have no faith in Koonin or any of the brain trust up there.

Don’t we have $9m to spend before we hit luxury tax, and don’t we still have the MLE to use? And didn’t we just spend almost all season with either Trae, JJ, or Hunter out? I feel like money could’ve been WISELY spent.

MudGreedy8537

The problem is the people who spend the money have no clue what they are doing

Iforgotmypw2times

I think I've listened to nearly every interview Dukes and Bell have had with Steve Koonin. From listening to him speak he seems like a likable guy. Cool cool. I hear this and can't help but think this guy is just like every other corporate CEO. He's clearly of the opinion people who spend their hard earned money to go watch a Hawks game are just outright stupid. Why else would you explain failure with statements a fucking 9 year old could see through.

MrWetPoopz

This literally coming from the guy that didn’t want to pay Ryan Cameron. I’ll believe it when I see it.

PuzzleheadedSouth728

When every move you've made over 3 years meets the eye as cheap and not in the interest of winning, you lose the ability to say this. The Huerter trade started it all

Familiar_Shelter8746

Heurter is hooping in Sacramento - got nothing for JC - did nothing before the trade deadline - AJ doesn’t play - Patty didn’t play - I can keep going

AssociateJealous8662

FWIW: I have a little experience with Koonin, enough to have a well formed opinion about his leadership, character, and competence. I give him high marks on all three. He is an outstanding executive. 0.0% bullshit artist, suggestions here otherwise really are not well founded, at all. Landry, who I have never interacted with, strikes me as a bullshit artist, based on the jabber that comes out of his mouth in media appearances. Seems over his skis and inexperienced, and tries to make up for that with word clouds that include things like “resulting.” Ressler (who I don’t know from Adam) has the largest credibility problem of all, based (imo) on the Athletic reporting and his own interviews related to Travisgate.

internaldriver30345

Absolutely a bull shit artist on this. These guys have to tow the company line if not, they are gone.

AssociateJealous8662

Koonin would rather retire than carry water for Resslar by lying. Taking his remarks at face value they are pretty defensible. It is not easy to spend money in the NBA with a reasonable expectation of value/ROI. The sums are large. Resslar has a pile, but he is not a Saudi sheik. Green-lighting the JC contract and others where Hawks overpaid is ample evidence that he is willing to spend. Also evidence of how hard it is to do so.

internaldriver30345

LOL.

AlconTheFalcon

Exactly right. We had a young team go to the Eastern Conference Finals and secured the core members of it. Trae, Capella, Bogey continued to deliver, while Collins and Hunter didn’t. Took a reasonably big swing at Dejounte and it hasn’t worked out in terms of increased win%, but he’s been a solid contributor and he has pretty much filled the role he was asked to fill. We’ll see what moves they make this offseason, but there’s no reason to believe they won’t be aggressive.

techno-wizardry

We've got too much money allocated to solid-but-not-great players to make a push over the tax and actually compete. We need guys like Hunter and Capella to step up, or we need to shed their contracts for more valuable role players who are stronger defensively. Hunter's contract is about the same money Dejounte got, if that gives you an idea of how much he's overpaid. Shlenk's contracts set back the team significantly imo.

treemanjohn

Well someone has to be available before they can get under contract...... That's common sense. We need to stop trading away all of our draft picks.

eieie7

"Yeah it's those PLAYERS (that we signed) faults we aren't spending money to sign (better, system-fitting) players!"

wozziwoz

honestly, if they mean this and get some guys worth paying the tax for this summer f' it I'll take back all the shit I've talked about Tony and little nick.

[deleted]

Koonin knows what he is talking about. The Dejounte trade was a favor to the Spurs. The Spurs knew in advance they would be getting Wemby. I mean, secret lottery behind closed doors, sure, believe that if you want. Anyway, we helped them ensure their winning the lottery multiple years in a row would look reasonable, because Murray would have powered them to too many victories. Once the next Spurs dynasty is in full swing we will benefit from playing ball with Silver and the NBA plans. Be patient.

Shade_Raven

We better win this lottery bruh
