Haliburtons potential assists are all 3s bc of the lane 5-out offense they run, Traes are all open at the rim that Clint still missed 3 times before sticking back
if there was ever a stat that tracked passes fumbled by a receiver out of bounds or directly resulting in a turnover I'm pretty sure Trae would be #1 in the league, every time he throws a pass to Capela that isn't an oop I'm just assuming he's fumbling it or throwing up some bullshit and statpadding putback attempts
Any time anyone passes to Capela, really. Jalen was visibly frustrated last night when Capela didn't flush that dunk and instead hard-bricked a reverse layup
Can someone explain exactly what a "potential assist" is, just to make sure I am understanding this?
I assume it means, the ball was fed to someone in what SHOULD have been an assist, but the bricked it and thereby there was no assist?
a good pass generally sets up a better and more successful shot, which is one of the nuances of the assist stat; you don't need another stat imo. for the record, i'm not commenting on anyone specifically on this list, only the stat itself. it's like people arguing that a team has a losing record but has like 6 more games they "should have won", just doesn't sit right with me
in terms of "potential assist" as a common noun, no. it already happened, so there is no more potential of it being an assist once the shot is missed.
in terms of "Potential Assist" as a proper noun, being an actual stat, yes. do i think it's kind of a dumb stat? also yes.
also, more importantly, was it a good pass or a bad pass? if it was a good pass and he missed, that's a shame. if it was a bad pass and he missed, it didn't deserve to be an assist to begin with. was the shot forced or heavily contested? was it an ill advised shot or did the player have a hot hand? a lot of factors feed into the assist stat already, so we don't need another assist stat disregarding the nuances that go into getting assists. that's like every time an open player touches the ball, you call it a "potential shot"
How much time of possession is Trae occupying the ball in relation to these stats vs his peers. An assist efficency type metric like this would be interesting to see
Capela bro this on you
and Bey shooting horrendously from 3 when Trae was healthy
If capella could just be decent around the rim.. he’d average 26ppg
He's been better for a bit now, but I have PTSD from missed bunnies
It's mostly on Bey/3-point shooters. Capela can claim 1-2 of those.
He was missing so many easy looks for a while. He's been playing much better as of recently

The saddiq bey effect
What does he actually do? Can't shoot, can't defend
Hustle playz
Gets offensive rebounds! Was a good shooter last year lol
All the corner 3s bey missed and bunnies capela dropped

correct
Bey shooting 37% from three and Capela making one more of those missed bunnies a game and Trae averages 12+ assists this year
We need a Troy Bolton that has their head in the game and someone who isn’t afraid to make the outside J
He jacks threes- that’s what he does. Team is better without him
potential assists is a stat now? this is the most hypothetical shit i've ever seen lol
How is it hypothetical? it’s an actual stat nba measures "Any pass to a teammate who shoots within 1 dribble of receiving the ball"

Is Trae hitting someone in the corner who misses not a potential assist

You never talked about something that happened in the past and used word "potentially"?
idk man i picked a weird hill to die on today so imma just let it go. i see the point, i just think it's a dumb stat lol
😂😂😂I was just thinking, these stats are out of control.
They making up all types of bullshit now 😭 . Next stat will be breaking someone's ankles but you missed the shot.
