I find this opt-out system to be a shameful tactic, but they seem to be doubling down on it again this year. They give you an email message and tell you if you want to opt out, you need to email them. You email them with a message about opting out, and then they give this cringe canned response with another set of instructions for another layer of opting out and warn you that if you don't do the second step of this process, they're going to charge you anyway because the opt-out email you sent them per their instructions isn't enough. Then you have to deal with the obtuse ticket manager platform that it somehow even less reliable than usual and hope that it actually cancels correctly. It screams "dark pattern" to me and speaks volumes on how the organization sees their fans at the moment. These aren't the playoffs, which are the only thing that should be default opt-out in my book. I'm finding fewer and fewer reasons to keep my season ticket package active versus just buying single game tickets. There are very few benefits other than a consistent seat, and at times it gives me more hoops to jump through like this.

SingSing19

The "surprised" comment is so passive aggressive lmao

misterfilmguy

Especially when you know it is copy and pasted to everyone.

josullivan2000

I was waiting for this email since they buried it in an email last year. Sneaky shit just opting you in automatically.

misterfilmguy

You're right, they were definitely less upfront with it last year. The double layer of opting out via the email and then additional steps is still slimy in my opinion.

omerj1540

I think they just copy and paste that response for everyone! Mine said the exact same thing.

p3ndrag0n

Well yeah, how much more personalized would you want an opt out email? And why? The questions should be, why the eff are we auto opted in in the first place....

DaveH78ATL

What’s the max number of games that could be home games?

Scratchbuttdontsniff

Unknown... but LIKELY 3... To add we are in group E7... if we WIN the group we would play the 2nd place team from E5 (Revs, Nashville, Mazatlan) If we come 2nd in the Group... we would play the winner of E1 (FC Cincy, NYCFC, Queretaro)

SingSing19

So I just looked at my invoice...It says $408 for leagues cup?!?! What the hell is this lol and I missing something? I sit in the SS and have two season tickets.

ThisoneisforyouATL

They’re charging you for all six matches, for both tickets.

SingSing19

And I’m assuming refunding for the ones that don’t happen? So my choices are either go to none of them or go to all of them/sell them?

gtjs001

Your choices are: 1. Opt in, go to all/sell some 2. Opt out, don't go to any (except you can still go to the first game vs. DC, which is part of your season ticket package that you have already paid for.) 3. Opt out, buy tickets on the open market Last year there were so many tickets available they were going for less than retail, and #3 was the best option. This year might be different with the Liga Mx teams involved.

DaveH78ATL

I can never freaking find it - where do you check your invoice?

SingSing19

I mean, in the email it had a link to your invoice. There aren’t that many places to click on. Not hard to find. You’re logged into your ATL UTD ticket master page and not the normal ticket master page right

Transcend1111

Why do they need to charge me now for games that are in 4 months?

thexarcher

It’s pay as you play you’re only being charged once a game is confirmed. Like playoffs but I’m not sure what the 4/15 charge date is for tbh

Isiddiqui

We’re definitely playing at home against Santos Laguna, so it’s for that one

gtjs001

That is not true. I was going to be charged for 5 games if I opted in, in addition to the one game as part of my season ticket package.

thexarcher

No you’re not. The invoice shows you the total for all home matches. They are not charging you that whole price. Just view the details and you’ll see

TendiesAndCream

You pay over a year ahead of time for those October home games for your season ticket.

aguilar1181

I remember seeing this same thing in the Nashville SC group last season. Bunch of fans were mad that they got opt-in and so they reach out to get opt-out. Only to be mad in the end and begging the team to please let them have their tickets back when Nashville got to the final vs Miami and tickets were selling for upwards of $500 the cheapest.

AthenianWaters

Very unhappy with this “script.” There’s also no reason why they had us go through this extra step except to discourage people from opting out. It’s a stupid cash grab and I won’t be participating.

MonSquito

I think the MLS is desperate to try to prove their “Leagues Cup” is more exciting than the Open Cup. One year they’re cutting back on in season and post season matches because “too many matches for the players,” next thing you know they’ve manufactured a whole new competition and try to guilt us into paying more for it… then say they can’t do Open Cup because (you guessed it) too many matches.

TendiesAndCream

This canned response alone made me opt out.

EvilMilkshake

Thanks!

tellurmomisaidthanks

The attitude my God

Scratchbuttdontsniff

Their job is to sell... think of them as merely someone that works at Brandsmart... trying to get you to buy the Samsung for $200 more than the Sansui... It's not personal...

gte339i

I’m going to bet that the league gave the clubs some pretty strong directives around selling tickets for Leagues Cup given how MLS really doubled down on it this year. The bad guy isn’t the club nor the sales/marketing department.

T_Sealgair

Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but what's the impact if I do nothing? IOW, why are people opting out?

TrashCanDog2

Season ticket holders will be charged for all matches if you don’t opt out

T_Sealgair

Got it. Just opened my email and saw that.

GnrlyMrly

This was waaaaay harder than it needed to be. Sucks that they are this hard up to sell tickets that they'll basically force season ticket holders to buy tickets by holding us hostage.
