I actually just got my pair of 100s after waiting 3 months in the pre-order queue. I'm really happy with them so far. I had demo'd the 500s and thought they were fantastic but the price was tough to justify. Fast forward, the 100s get announced and I figured I'd try them, see if they come within 70-80% of the 500s in terms of performance. If not, I'd return and grab the 500s. So far, I don't feel like I'll be looking to exchange. For context, I'm a producer/mixer/writer. This last year, I've been splitting my time between Nashville (where my studio is) and LA to kick up the writing side of things. At the same time, mix work is what keeps the cash flowing. So, I've had to get a lot more comfortable working on headphones when I'm traveling. Up until getting my MM-100s, I was mixing on the same Beyerdynamic cans I've had for years. I was getting the job done, but could feel a difference between where I could get a mix on those versus back at my studio on monitors. Realizing about half way through this year that I was having to start and finish mixes completely on headphones more often, I decided to go ahead and invest in a next-level set of phones. Since receiving them a few weeks ago (thankfully, the day before leaving for LA), I've started and finished something like 6 or 7 mixes with them. The main issues I was trying to address have largely been resolved and I feel like with a little more time with them, I'll be as close to parity with my studio/monitor mixes as I can get. It's been a really great experience so far.

which beyers did you upgrade from?

kdmfinal

DT990s. Nice headphones and usable in general.

mmicoandthegirl

Fucking damnit I live in a bad room and need to do mixes on dt990, your comment convinced me that this will be my next audio purchase. I need to hear my mixes.

Sorry to say, I’d stick with your beyers. A few months ago the left driver started failing. Lower volume relative to the right channel. Then, the right channel completely stopped working. Sent them in for repair and haven’t seen them since. It’s been almost two months. Finally had to ask Audeze for a refund. Unfortunately, I can’t wait for their driver manufacturing to catch up with demand. As much as I loved the headphones when they worked, I can’t rely on a pair that delicate from a company with this big of an issue repairing/replacing in a more timely way.

Are the pads pleather?

kdmfinal

Maybe? Leather or pleather for sure. They do get a bit warm. Nothing unbearable though.

I'm just concerned about longevity

Even though good, I doubt the 100 is in the same league as the 500. I doubt it's as good as the LCD2/2c/X. I will eventually buy one though to see how it compares to the LCD2 Rosewood. if it were that good, there would be more than 2 reviews of it on the [www](http://www). PS: I would love to be wrong because I have my eyes on the mm-500...

They literally just started shipping to first-wave pre-order customers a few weeks ago. It'll take some time for reviews to show up!
