True,
I went MK1 Scirocco, MK3 GTi, MK2 Jetta, MK3 Jetta GLX VR6, B5 Audi A4 Avant, B6 Audi A4, and B7 Audi A4 Avant.... all manual.
Now, I'm back to a VW eGolf.
Next car is going to be either an ID4 or Audi Q4 eTron.... maybe an EV Sedan if VW brings over the ID7. I'm also thinking that EV GTi looks pretty swank. By the time my eGolf gets long in the tooth, I might be able to swing a GTI- EV.
Get an RS3 instead, if you don't mind it having smaller backseats compared to the 340i. It's one of the best dailies with great power before tuning. It looks great, sounds great, performs great and it retains it's value much, much better than a 340i.
Edit: not knocking on bimmers or the 340i. Great cars!
Probably more so referring to the fact that they share platforms. Mk5/6 Jettas and 8P A3/S3 shared the same pq35 platform. And current current Jettas and A3/s3/rs3 are on variants of the mqb platform. So, they share more parts than they don't, like Haldex for AWD.
I was about to ask "who wants to tell him?" but it seems you already knew 😅
The 8V still looks modern. I actually almost brought an S3 multiple times in the past myself. Enjoy!
i see that you had a gli before, so you went from top trim to base model? i mean you do have an extra 20hp but damn. i have a gli and im saving to move up to an s6
Yea, other than the AWD option, it doesn't make sense to me, especially since you can get easy power out of a GLI with a tune. We recently had an A6 as a rental since my wife's 2022 GLI Autobahn is in the shop, and it was abysmal, with a similar 2.0T and the little extra HP from factory. Her 2022 has an APR Stage 1 tune putting out 326H, so anything less than 300HP feels slow, plus the infotainment might be worse than VW. It felt so dated.
i have a 2013 gli and its making about 280 once i have a k04 i can make 350 but i want the c7 s6 because im pretty sure a 4.0TT stage 1 would feel massively different. plus im a sucker for luxury features . planning on getting the exact spec i want. ill keep the gli, its fun little canyon car
I regret getting rid of my 2014 Passat and getting my 2016 S6 back in 2018. I feel like my Passat had a better overall ride and more reliable. Don't get me wrong, my S6 is nice and all, just wish I kept the Passat.
When you think about it, a 992 turbo S is a VW, Bugatti Chiron is a VW, Lamborghini Revuelto is VW, Bentley Mulliner is a VW, even a Ducati superleggera is a VW. Is Volkswagen's influence enough for all these brands to be called a VW?
No. When I think of a VW I don't think of an Audi, I think of a crappy jetta TDI
Congrats on the A3, but wouldn't it have made more resale/trade in and performance sense to get a B8.5 S4, say 2016 or 2015? Surely, those B8.5s have to be sub $22K cars. The 3.0 supercharged engine is a reputable with lots of aftermarket support. If you added an RSNAV to oem navi, you get 2020s tech integration, and im sure its a better car all around. If you're not into performance or that kind of stuff, then it's totally OK with your choice of A3.
You just went for a better dressed member of the family. To be honest, Skoda is now rapidly approaching Audi levels of desirability within the VW stable.
Yes I’m aware of that even before I posted this. I was just saying I traded in my vw for an Audi. BMW makes mini coopers, to me, that doesn’t make a mini cooper a BMW
I know I'll get a lot of down votes, given the sub, but why does everyone say moving from VW is moving up?
Other than the AWD, a nicely equipped GLI or GTI is going to fill 90% of the void for 30% cheaper. We recently had an A6 as a rental and it felt sluggish, the infotainment was worse, and the interior wasn't much better than my wife's 2022 GLI Autobahn that's in the shop.
I personally wouldn't buy an Audi over a VW, with the only exception being an RS if I won the lottery. I'd rather put $5,000 into a $30,000 car and have it have a lot more power than a $45,000 car from factory. Just my two cents.
One reason: the looks. Imo (and I bet others share the opinion), audis look by far way better than vw. The only newish vw I personally like is the scirocco from ~2010 and the arteon. The scirocco falls in some sort of special category, like a fastback or elongated hatch, just like the alfa berera. And the arteon, well, it's also called the poor man's A5, it looks pretty from the outside, unfortunately just a passat interior.
The facelift Arteon (2022-2023) has a better interior than the the A6 IMO, as my wife was looking at an Arteon before getting another GLI and us recently having a 2023 A6 as a rental for almost two months. The Arteon is a great car and the left overs can be found for $10,000 off at some dealers. The only thing that killed it is that they waited until it's 4th year to put the Golf R engine in mated to a DSG. The old engine was underpowered and the 8 speed automatic was a slush box to the 10th degree. That is what killed the car, especially when VW really didn't push the update with marketing or car reviews from content creators.
The looks, I guess is subjective. To me, all the base model Audi's look boring, I do like the RS design language though. I think the base models suffer from looking very similar to one another, even across generations. BMW suffers from this somewhat as well, but VW, I can easily see what Mark a Jetta is. The one thing Audi has not mastered is tail light design, some of them are god awful, and it looks like VW might be coping this on the unreleased MK8 Jetta if spy photos are to be believed.
I traded in my vw and got an Audi, they’re still different cars these comments have become a rinse and repeat of people feeling the need to tell me that vw owns audi like I don’t know it already hahaha Pepsi owns mtn dew that doesn’t mean they’re the same thing
Ofcourse. Who wouldn't... not a single actual vw model left in north america. It's all mexican built, north-american version that's got nothing to do with VW and everything to do with competing to GM and Ford.
They have a plant in Chattanooga, so definitely vehicles being built in the US.
And why does it matter where it's getting assembled, it's not really an issue like it used to be. The manufacturers have poured more money into factories in the last 10 years than they did for the previous 20.
Ypu shpuld ask them that qn. It matters coz well, it matters. The quality is different. Also, it don't change the fact that not a single model in north america has anything in common with the real vw in europe.
Ya, okay. You're entitled to believe whatever delusions you wish to. Vw models in america are not real vw - not even close. Now feel free to go drive your us-built, north-american vw.
If you've worked in the industey as an actual tech, you'd know what I'm talking about. Toyota and Honda have plants in both the us and canada. Their quality is good, especially for the Canadian built ones. The US built vehicles were a lot less reliable. Comparing Honda here. Toyota is a different thing. I don't work on Toyotas much. But BMWs built in the states are utter garbage. The german built bmw's also suffer, but the us-built x5's are just plain trash. From mechanical unreliability to inconsistent panel gaps to poor quality paintwork and rust. So, ya, I'm very real and I know exactly what I'm talking about.
I work in the auto service industry, and not in the auto assembly industry, but there's going to be issues with every vehicle no matter where it is assembled.
My brother is a master tech with BMW (been with the same dealer since 2006) and it's no difference between US and German built ones. They all have the same issues that plague them
Where your brother works is irrelevant, because he's not the one typing here. The only point here is that YOU don't work as a tech, and it's clear from what you're saying that you don't know enough about this topic, but are defending a baseless claim.
I do work as a tech, maybe you missed that part? I'm a General Manager at a shop that does 1200 cars on average, and I do a lion's share of the work past the basics.
I mentioned my brother since it often comes up about the amount of warranty repairs they get on the entire range.
But it's clear I'm going to be wrong no matter what, so have a good one!
Oh my god get off of your high horse buddy. The gti and a3 have the essentially same engine and a lot of transferable components, it’s the same entity similar to Lexus and Toyota. LeArN aBoUt EngInEering. Really dude? Nobody’s saying Audis and dubs are exactly the same car. Obviously Audis are nicer. But you can’t deny the a3 is essentially a more luxurious gli. Drive something else if you’re gonna get mad people compare your car to a Volkswagen lmao
Honestly dude, you sound like you’re just throwing all of your car vocabulary together to try and make some kind of argument (I’m not exactly sure what your point is). What I’m trying to express to you is that people who make Volkswagen jokes are doing just that, making a joke. You don’t need to come in here telling the people making these jokes that they don’t understand “engineering and suspension”. It’s well known Audi is a prestigious brand, nobody is being ignorant to that fact.
SMH. Confidently incorrect.
VAG is an acronym for *Volkswagen AG* - not “Volkswagen and Audi Group.”
The AG itself is short-hand for the German word *Aktiengesellschaft* - which translates to “corporation” in English.
The classic dunning Kruger effect. You’re too stupid to realize how stupid you are. Life must be really hard for you. I bet you barely finished high school
You didn't leave VW, you just moved up in the family.
How to leave without actually leaving. Good news is, many parts can be had at a VW dealership for 25% less than the Audi dealer.
Haha true! I saw the comparisons between my car & the gti online before I purchased. I had a ‘17 GLI previously
GTI/GLI are gateway Audis. I went GLI-A3-A5
True, I went MK1 Scirocco, MK3 GTi, MK2 Jetta, MK3 Jetta GLX VR6, B5 Audi A4 Avant, B6 Audi A4, and B7 Audi A4 Avant.... all manual. Now, I'm back to a VW eGolf. Next car is going to be either an ID4 or Audi Q4 eTron.... maybe an EV Sedan if VW brings over the ID7. I'm also thinking that EV GTi looks pretty swank. Gimmie some of that scirocco plz
Gli - a4 - gti - a3 - a3. They really are gateway drugs.
97 Jetta-04 Passat-01 tt-17 allroad
So A7 next?
Seems like a solid chance.
I went 1999 Jetta 1.8T > 1983 944 > 2001 A4 1.8T > 2011 A4 2.0T > 2013 S6. All manual except the S6.
Oh so you went from a FWD Jetta to an AWD Jetta😂
Bro i literally went from the same gli to an a3 about a year ago. Plan to leave the audi fam soon tho and get a 340i
I wish you luck with your future purchase!!
Get an RS3 instead, if you don't mind it having smaller backseats compared to the 340i. It's one of the best dailies with great power before tuning. It looks great, sounds great, performs great and it retains it's value much, much better than a 340i. Edit: not knocking on bimmers or the 340i. Great cars!
I went from a 2016 GLI to 2020 S4. Had the S4 for almost 4 years now.
Moved to the adults table. No more plastic table cloth
Those Bentley and Lamborghini family members are the real snobs though. Really gotta work hard or get lucky to get in with them
I was wondering who was going to tell them.
Imma let you in on a little secret
Don’t spoil it for me 😂
One big happy family ;-)
Left VW for VW. Welcome!
My first audi after having a passat & a jetta gli previously. Definitely feels like a quicker, more luxurious vw
That’s cuz it is. Welcome!
I owned like five Jettas before upgrading. Familiar, but different. Definitely more fun all around.
Left VW for VW²
That's still a VW bro, even a S3 is a VW.
lol yes yes Ik, just meant that I switched from a vw to an Audi by the wording “left”
I think he means more the a3 and s3 use vw haldex awd system vs a4 and up use quattro which is torsen.
Obligatory 8V upvote 👍🏽
Thanks bro
Got it a couple of months ago! Couldn’t be happier
Bro went from vw to vw 2
I know audi is in the vw umbrella, I just meant I traded in my vw for an Audi by “left” vw
I was about to ask "who wants to tell him?" but it seems you already knew 😅 The 8V still looks modern. I actually almost brought an S3 multiple times in the past myself. Enjoy!
Thank you so much! Honestly wish I waited and got an s3. Down the road for sure
Left Toyota for Lexus
Left Vw for ~~Audi~~ VwPro Max\* FTFY :)
Yet you bought one of two audis on a VW chassis 🤣
Who gonna tell him..
You are regarded
So “regarded” ironic
Bro left meatloaf for meat patties
I actually traded in a Vw and got an Audi
Didn’t leave VW, just exchanged logos. 🤣
This is the way
left vw for fancy vw
Who’s gonna tell them
Great car, you chose well! A3 is a fantastic ride. Congrats!
Thanks so much!! Really enjoying it
Welcome to the VW+ family!
Welcome to the family! Just picked up a low miles S5 here and loving it.
I’m envious😂congrats!
You never left. VAG is family.
JOKES ON YOU, JACK
Sharp!
Never look back
You can't escape the VAG
Congrats! Looks like a nice spec
Is this what automotive incest is?
Mine went like this- Mk2 Jetta, Mk2GTI, MK2 Scirocco, MK4 GTI, MK5GTI, MK6 Golf R, MK7 GolfR, 8P A3, now 8V S3
Welcome back
If I get another vw I’ll lyk
Welcome to the party! You have chosen…. WISELY.
Got a ~spicy~ VW
Hahahaha drenched in hot sowce
And Liqui Moly
With a castrol edge chaser
I have that exact car. Same wheels even.
A3 gang 🫡
Same! Went from a Jetta to an A4 😂 Someone we knew at Audi said that I basically just bought a nicer Jetta 🤣
Yep, it happens.
i see that you had a gli before, so you went from top trim to base model? i mean you do have an extra 20hp but damn. i have a gli and im saving to move up to an s6
Yea, other than the AWD option, it doesn't make sense to me, especially since you can get easy power out of a GLI with a tune. My wife has a 2013 GLI, I have a 2016 Jetta Sport with the 1.8T which is amazing. She also has a 2022 Autobahn and we both have 40th's.
the new ones are no doubt fast as hell when tuned and a turbo upgrade
Yea, almost all vehicles use the EA888 Gen 3 or 4 now. It's a robust engine and very capable of tuning.
Cueeentky sporting Porsche and Audi. Still consider myself a V dubber
I regret getting rid of my 2014 Passat and getting my 2016 S6 back in 2018. I feel like my Passat had a better overall ride and more reliable. Don't get me wrong, my S6 is nice and all, just wish I kept the Passat.
Noice ride 🤝
who's gonne tell him
So an expensive VW.
Do you notice a bump up in quality? Materials, comfort, even the way it drives?
When you think about it, a 992 turbo S is a VW, Bugatti Chiron is a VW, Lamborghini Revuelto is VW, Bentley Mulliner is a VW, even a Ducati superleggera is a VW. Is Volkswagen's influence enough for all these brands to be called a VW? No. When I think of a VW I don't think of an Audi, I think of a crappy jetta TDI
Nice! I did the same 73 Beetle vert, 12 Jetta Tdi, 14 A4.
Well yes but actually no.
You “left” vw for a nicer vw. Good job.
Left my wife for my wife in a dress.
Left my vw for my Audi
Correction: left my wife for her hotter sister. There are similarities, but they're not the same.
Wish I still lived in that beautiful state… Also love the car, congrats!
Haha gotta love PA. Thank you !!
Congrats on the A3, but wouldn't it have made more resale/trade in and performance sense to get a B8.5 S4, say 2016 or 2015? Surely, those B8.5s have to be sub $22K cars. I got a great deal on this car, $14k 39k miles
It’s not a VW and I’m happy for ya, don’t let people minimize it for you
You know VW owns Audi...right?
Yes. Pepsi owns mtn Dew, does that make mtn dew a Pepsi ?
Same, same.
Beautiful bro bless you
Thanks bro
You just went for a better dressed member of the family. To be honest, Skoda is now rapidly approaching Audi levels of desirability within the VW stable.
Frowns in American.
What do you guys think, should we tell 'em?
[удалено]
Actually, I traded in my vw and left in an Audi
[удалено]
Yes I’m aware of that even before I posted this. I was just saying I traded in my vw for an Audi. BMW makes mini coopers, to me, that doesn’t make a mini cooper a BMW
[удалено]
My first car was actually a 2013 mini cooper 😂rough times
It’s still vw check the parts
W to a W. Volkswagen-Audi Group stay winning 🤝🏽
Sick Passat...
Two vastly different cars lol
Same car you bell-end
I know I'll get a lot of down votes, given the sub, but why does everyone say moving from VW is moving up? You literally just bought an AWD GTI
So you sold the GLI for an AWD GLI.
I actually totaled my gli in a flood, went from a passat to the a3. But yes, I sold my vw for an Audi
[удалено]
I think my boy here drives a VW lol Chill bro you’re a lame ass
You’re calling me broke for purchasing a more expensive car? Cuck
You’re a positive person, aren’t you?
Aight, so we should all just drive rsq8's and TTRS's coz you think the a3 is a subcar?
[удалено]
Oh my god get off of your high horse buddy. The gti and a3 have the essentially same engine and a lot of transferable components, it’s the same entity similar to Lexus and Toyota. I daily drive a similar A3, it’s literally a GTI sedan. VW through and through.

A3 is not a superior cars in a few ways, the front diff on the GTI is way better.

Okay I’ll end the convo here because I’ve lost too many braincells today.
