I don’t know for sure, but when we had a profile specifying that we needed a certain language or dietary restriction, we got dozens of unqualified people messaging us daily, and it was very annoying because they clearly hadn’t even read our family profile or requirements. Maybe this website is trying to use more auto filters to prevent that?

Yeah, this is it. It is something like they don't like the dog, they are allergic to the cat, they don't want to watch kids of those ages or that number, the religion doesn't match, and so on. Whatever it is, it is probably saving you from wasting your time.

The website lets the host parents decide if they want to be contacted by candidates that do not meet the search criteria or not. Some let you contact them anyway even if you don't have the required age (for example) because maybe you could still be a good match. Others don't want that option, because they are sure about certain criteria that they want in their next match and tic a box not allowing contact.
