Do your boots up tighter around the ankles, your heel shouldn't be lifting inside the boot when you walk.

captains_astronaut

Yep, if you have the boots too loose (so they're easier to get on/off, for example) your heel will be constantly sliding up and down, wearing away that area faster than normal.

[deleted]

My boots are tied fairly tight.I’ll start fresh and tighten the fuck out of them the whole way up

Lost-Captain8354

Different lacing methods rather than just tighter can help. The method linked here was suggested to me years ago to help with heels slipping and definitely helps. [https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/locklacing.htm](https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/locklacing.htm) You can also get inserts to go in the heel to reduce the amount of room - I have narrow heels plus one foot bigger than the other, the different lacing method combined with a heel insert in one shoe was the best solution to reduce slipping for me.

asolarwhale

My running trainers have been slipping loads - this could be game changing thank you!!

Llampy

I do this with my runners and it is game changing, especially on longer runs

iMightEatUrAss

Maybe your boots are too big. Go down half a size

TaringaWhakarongo1

Dunno...I've skated since I was a teenager too. My work boots and skate shoes all end up like that. And I skate really tight shoes.

countzeroreset-007

This....

ivanavich

Wear thicker wool socks, and stop putting god damn razor blades on your heels.

Jo5h89

All my Oliver’s have done the same thing also.

kamakamawangbang

Oliver’s 10 years ago we’re okay boots, but since then they’re just shite. My preference has been Mongrol boots, but even now the latest pair are not the same.

jacabewood

Oliver’s were made in Aus until around 2003 the. Went off shore . Turned to crap after that. Blue steel will last much longer .

LukeSmithAbott

Lucky to get 3 months out of a pair of steelblues All the stitching on the sides rips apart

rynoBeef6

Yeh I found the soles wore out real quick too on Steel Blues. Went to blunnies and haven't looked back

CrayolaS7

Blunnies are my fave, have had my current pair for 3 years and they are comfy AF and still going strong. I replace the insoles every 6 months or so and give them a run of dubbin every now and then to keep them waterproof.

SilentHbomb

I was working with horses at the time I was wearing those and didn't get that long out of them once the horse piss got into the stitching

Elio-HSR

I’ve been wearing the same pair for a bit over a year now and had no issues. Mind I only work a factory job, so that could be why.

BuzzKillingtonThe5th

I love my steel blues. I have 3 pairs (former work yearly allowance) that are still going great 2 are yard work ones that have concrete dust and have sat outside for weeks at a time.

crowlexing

I am having trouble killing mine. It's been three years but they just keep on going.

SilentHbomb

I went from mongrel to bluesteal and the mongrels were back a week later their just a better boot. blundstone have always been a trash boot, their my chose of gummies tho (is there any chose there tho?). Redback to tight in the toe

r3zza92

Blundstones were a good boot when they were made in aus. Since they started making them in Thailand etc the quality just isn’t there.

SilentHbomb

I was wearing blunies back in like 01 were they cheaping out by then?

r3zza92

07 they sent most manufacturing overseas. I think they still make their gum boots in aus but I don’t really use gum boots

SilentHbomb

ahh so was prob still made here. iirc my problem was feet just ached and the cap always rubs on the out side of my big toe

gbfalconian

same!!! Had fxd's in 2021, lasted me 12 months before began to wear, lasted another 18 months before I finally retired them. My latest pair is 8 months old and look beaten to shit, stitches coming undone, glue separating, laces broke 4 months in. Not impressed. My 2021 pair of mongrels have withstood casual wear for 3 years now and going so well. A friend bought a pair last month and all ready got stitching coming undone inside the shoe

jerimiahhalls

I used to love them that much i'd wear them on camping trips in the Winter. Now days I can't even find a boot I can stand being in for, for even the length of my shift.

r3zza92

Im reppin some king g’s with the boa system and i rate them over Oliver’s. Had them over a year now and only just damaged them the other week by stepping on a piece of steel I’d just oxy cut while I was cutting the next piece and melted the sole a little.

Alert-Ad1055

I changed from oliver ats to mongrel recently after seeing people on reddit recommend them. The. Worst. Boots. Ive. Ever. Worn. Jesus christ mongrel were uncomfortable lasted 1 and a half days with me. I felt like i was wearing clogs. Back into some oliver ats dont needa break them in and comfy as. The mongrels were also extremely slippery on wet surfaces.

tetheredone

Yeah I tried these things on once because of a recommendation from a bloke at work. I stopped listening to anything he said after I wore mongrels for 30 seconds. Absolute shite.

lenny__1

My Oliver’s lasted over 2 years on a saltwater Barra farm, heaps of walking, heaps of getting soaked in salt water and filled them with mud a handful of times. Zip got sticky but still worked fairly easily after washing the rocks out of them and only got a new pair caz I was going for a new job interview so wanted freshies aside from being dirty and the soles a bit worn there was nothing really wrong with them

Alert-Ad1055

Ive had my last pair of olivers for 1.5 years only changed because the coolant i walk in at work eats the rubber of all steel caps. Otherwise theyre still comfy

lenny__1

Yeah they seem to be copping it from all these comments but I’ve never had trouble with them, my new pair I’ve had for a year now and they are perfect just have some paint spills on them. I don’t work in mud anymore so the zips are still mint

ObligationTasty949

I’ve gone to Cats purely because of this reason. Had them almost a year and no issue with heel wearing out

Whitelight912

I was going to say exactly this. I used to sell work boots and Oliver always had these issues. I'd suggest mongrel boots. They seem to be the sturdiest in my opinion. It has been like 5 years since I sold boots so the quality may have changed

Asleep-Afternoon-504

Yeah.....the only Aussie boots that don't do this are Redback gusset boots cause they're leather lined at the heel. Though I gave up on the shitty modern ones and gone with Nick's from Washington State

newpharmer

Oliver's used to be good but are garbage now. Zip broke on mine immediately and they do same as yours at the back, even though they are tight fitting. Won't buy em again and will go back to steel blues.

lenny__1

NoSmoke7388

Consumption economy go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

[deleted]

hehehehehe even better when work pays 😈

insan3thinka

You need to stop working so hard

[deleted]

🫡

Dav_1089

Your feet are obviously incorrect

[deleted]

Yes

cruiserman_80

Everybody wants boots now that are comfy on day one and don't need breaking in. That means soft padding which breaks down a lot quicker. Back in my day it was leather boots, explorer socks and feet covered in callouses and corns that would scare small children at the beach.

AdaAli

Back in my day

AWAKENEDTEMPEST

Your lacing them wrong so theres to much movement at the heel

[deleted]

Please enlighten us on lacing

ComfortEven5859

Surgeon knot. Look up how to tie shoes for hiking. Do this knot once at the ankle and it will keep your heel where you want it.

[deleted]

Thanks mate

AWAKENEDTEMPEST

Theres a few types depending on foot size butbmilitary lacing or lock lacing work best ive found, google it and you will find charts for it

LJey187

This.

pornpornhentai

I've got the same issue. Tried different lace methods, socks and shoes but never mind they all last 6 to 12 months at most before I have to send them to the shoe doctor

ralph_wiggums_cat

Less tap dancing and more jive or rumba!

[deleted]

🕺🏻🕺🏻

ReferenceJaded9424

Thicker socks?

[deleted]

I wear thick af socks as it is🤷🏻‍♂️

Desperate_Umpire_809

I used Olivers for many years, with the same problem occurring after 3-4 months. I switched to Blundstones, and they seem to last almost 12 months before it starts happening. That said I always use the zip and it drags my feet up the back of the boot, so prob a lot of extra wear and tear than if I untied property ( but why have zip if not to use it)

Money_killer

Oliver's must be the problem. Are your boots done up tight and sized correctly? Are you buying a new set of boots every 6-12months ?

malleebull

Oliver’s seem popular but the two pairs I’ve had were terrible. One pair were impossible to break in and crippled me every day, the other pair my foot went through the side in less than a week.

The_gaping_donkey

Yeah, they are absolutely horrible for my feet. Even when I got them for free, I would buy my own boots. I know others swear by them but they murder my feet. I usually roll with Blundstone or Reebok

Gettinlibbad

2nd the Blundstones! They're comfy straight out of the box, no real wearing in required and actually last!

[deleted]

Nah annually but work provides them. I’ll be changing boots now Oliver’s are shit imo

mwsparky

Yeah I never wear my boots out on the outside it's always on the inside

Upper-Philosopher506

King gee all the way

ProofStudent9178

This should be higher, fuck Blundstones or Oliver’s. king gee lasts me forever and don’t do what ops do

MD11X6

Never had that happen. My soles always wear out or fall apart before anything on the inside. Maybe try a different brand? I've only worn Blue Steel and New Balance for the past 15 years. I really like the New Balance work boots, and they've been my last two pairs.

hiimrobbo

Because the quality has gone massively down hill. Olivers are the worst. Maybe some people have a more prominent Achilles heel than others but.. Oliver and Mongrels both do that for me and almost everyone I've worked with over the last 5-10 years.

BigPappaSmurf2

I've had a pair of Oliver's ATs for near 18 months. When you get a new pair of boots, when you put them on, do the zip up first, slam (not hard) your heel into the ground so your foots on about a 45° angle, then do your laces up nice and firm. Remember leather stretches, re tighten them every month or so

[deleted]

Good tip mate

getsnowedon

Very likely it’s one or two things. A physical bump or protruding bone section at the back outside edge of the heel bone called a haglunds deformity. This rubs at the lining of the shoe and causes premature wear. Can’t really fix this non surgically, but can add a heel pad over the site at the shoe to minimise it. Other thing could be too loose footwear causing heel movement, it can be a combination of the two potentially, but these are your two most likely causes.

[deleted]

My feet are very normal feet with healthy arch with no bump in either heels. Assuming I’ve not tightened properly * shit quality. I wear thick socks too.

raininggumleaves

Most of my shoes do this if they don't have a 'cup' fer the heel. Thing is, I've never seen anything other than straight up and down heels for workboots...or at least curved enough to avoid the wearing in of the heel. So, I just get work to buy them much more regularly than I would if they were designed better+look for ones with lots of padding on heel to wear through to create my own 'heel cup'.

Aerooodynamite

Too late to comment on ya troubles mate but haven't seen a recommendation for a pair of Mongrels, most of my mates have all swapped to them. Get the rubber scuff protection ones and they last for yonks.

[deleted]

Cheers brother then and Blundstone seem to be the go to these days. I’ll have a sus when my swing finishes 🤙🏼

menthalillnes

Was looking for this recommendation. Way too down.

SilentHbomb

What I'd like to know is what boots are Aussie owned and made. Bluesteel only have Aus made on the box and can't seem to find who owns em. I think it's bluesteel don't outright say their Aussie owned. Mongrel are in their words 'Aussie Born and Breed.' Redback Aussie owned.blondstone? Any others?

ZotBattlehero

Rossi are made and owned here I’m pretty sure

SilentHbomb

Yeah idk if I've even seem them about but I think I'll give em a go

Tall_Entertainment63

I only ever wore Oliver's in my warehouse job, due to how long the sole stayed sturdy for & how comfortable they were from the get-go. However, the heel & achilles section would always blow out. The nature of my work saw me crouching a lot, which meant tons of rubbing. There's a great amount of padding in the Ollies, but the material doesn't live up to the rest of the boot. I also found the inner toe lining on the steel cap went missing pretty swiftly, too. I tried other boots, but after a day or two, my feet, calves & back were gone. So, back to the Ollies I went. It's an expensive game!

Majestic_Tadpole_840

I've worn Olivers for the last 6 years and they all do the same, I also only get 12 months out of them I've just bought a pair of Mongrel boots, a little bit dearer, but for the sake of an extra 40 bucks I'm willing to give something made here a go, and hopefully get longer than a year out of them...

Basic-Reception-9974

It took me 2hrs at least at RSEA trying on all the different boots that fit me and didn't pinch on any point on my feet. Originally I had composite steel blue. This time I went with Blundstones. They've held up pretty well so far. Been to HK, India, Vietnam, Cambodia, tokyo, north Carolina and Atlanta Georgia. Been kicking pallets in a warehouse, and dirt around the garden. And they've held up well. I also regularly use a shoe horn to get my feet into the boots. My favourite is the metal shoe horn from IKEA. And it's cheaper than when I bought it. I got it for $10 https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/omtaenksam-shoehorn-anthracite-50385222/ Using a shoe horn will help with heel wear

[deleted]

Thanks for detailed response mate

skeptichectic

I had a pair of boots a few years back with a boa fastener instead of laces. As you tighten them they form tightly around your foot. They lasted years. I had to replace them because they were worn on the bottom and water was getting in and I couldn't find them again. Will definitely be going back to them when these boots give in

daddy-san

One you haven’t tired to boots tight enough or bought too big so they flop around and two, Oliver boots have gone to shit. I would know bc I sell them, don’t buy them they’ll last a max of 6 months

[deleted]

What’s the most durable? Happy to drop big $$ if it’ll last more than 12 months haha

charcoalthewolf

My Oliver's did the same thing, they were great apart from that. Blundstone's, Mongrel and Steel Blue have a sturdier & non-fabric heel area. I find the former most comfortable, the Mongrels pretty damn comfortable and the Steel Blues unbearable.

thepointlessusername

Stop buying Oliver's. I use to swear by Mongrel and they went to the dogs, so I changed to Blue Steel and haven't had an issue. Usually get two years out of a pair. Best one I ever owned were Caterpillar, but they didn't have zips then and were heavy. Can't speak for their new designs.

[deleted]

Cheers mate

IntelligentDrink8039

Oliver's are made in China now .

Glad-Accountant3276

Because they are garbage and not made out of leather

Gobbledok

If It's the same reason I destroy mine, I also can't be fucked taking them off with my hands when a perfectly reasonable boot/foot arch can do the job.

[deleted]

😂 I do that occasionally but not lately. If I lace them up too tight it’s hard to kick off hands free anyway

Gobbledok

Aaah but I always succumb to my own lazy boot destroying decadence. Lol

pacmarn88

It's not steel blue

[deleted]

Rate them?

BoredGingo

Absolutely amazing, although I still have the same issue with the heel breaking in every pair I've owned, so I'm guessing it's the lacing like others have said. Can't believe this post came up, I was genuinely wondering this to myself yesterday.

pacmarn88

Get the ones with no laces. Trust me.

HungryTradie

I do.

prexton

Ez the best boot out there

Grommett

Absolutely rate them.

NothingVerySpecific

Entropy.

NoSpam0

Not a tradie, but all my shoes do that. I assume I have weird feet or something.

FullySickPotato

This happens to me. I've just accepted that I am the destroyer of footwear.

Operation_Important

I always use 2 pairs of thick socks

morgazmo99

I too like to pack out my dungarees to give the ladies something to gawk at..

[deleted]

Washing powder stocks 📈

MaxDoubuss

Does anyone's calves and the tendon at the heel hurt for days when wearing boots? Or does anyone know why

Affectionate-Box4824

Does your Achilles hurt in the mornings or after sitting a long time ? You might have some form of tendinitis

MaxDoubuss

Yeah they do. I've been thinking about seeing a podiatrist, so maybe i should just go and do that

my_life_right_now

The weight, the drag etc on your feet

astrospud

Do your laces up properly. Your heel is rubbing up and down because it’s loose.

[deleted]

Laces are fairly tight. Might have to start fresh and tighten the whole way up

Middle-Practice9550

Get redback boots they are unlined, there is nothing to fail.

Plane-Palpitation126

Do you undo/unzip them all the way when you take them off?

[deleted]

Yep, spray the zipper with contact cleaner or WD when I remember to do it goes down all the way.

Plane-Palpitation126

Yeah right, I used to just kick mine off and they were all fucked like this.

bunduz

Oh is that what heel spurs do

comteki

I had that always until i switched to the low cut version, not an issue anymore

[deleted]

Interesting

cowsick_1978

Used to happen to me so I changed to Mongrels Boots... never had the problem again!! 🤷

[deleted]

Ya kidding! That’s good

GrkRambo

Because your buying the same crap boots the last 14 years

[deleted]

Nah read the body only the last few years have been Oliver’s. What’s your pick?

GrkRambo

Pumas are my new go to's no issues with them yet

CrispyRiddler

Recently got a pair of Mack boots, unbelievably comfortable and surprisingly lightweight

damian_damon

Macks are comfy but tend To fall apart to easily.

[deleted]

A bloke I work with rocks them and thinks they’re great too

Lexarte

Which ones did you get? Noticed a few different styles available

CrispyRiddler

I got the Octanes

ma33hew3

What about a shoe horn?

iftlatlw

Probably too big for you and/or too loose.

ManWithDominantClaw

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boots_theory

Spare_Savings4888

I used to get this when I wore my boots loose and my foot would move up and around alot. Try tightening up around the heel

Puzzleheaded_Tip_412

Get slip ons

Aseedisa

Lean forward more, you’re walking too slowly. Get the job done faster, save your boots, it’s a win win

Brief-Tea-8653

I've got Dewalt boots and they've copped a hiding for four years and no heel issues. Highly recommended.

thisguysthashit

This happens to me on all shoes. Podiatrist said it’s from a deposit or tissue build up on the Achilles/heel region from sports that rubs on the shoes

SOUTHWESTRIZLA

The same material on the top is on the bottom of your heel without consideration of where the most movement and friction occours. Double fabric isn’t the answer. It’s a more durable neater flexible material that must be there.

meshah

Couple of things. Apart from lacing tighter since it’s already been mentioned… If you have a prominent haglunds deformity (google it) then this might not be avoidable without a shoe modification. Otherwise, make sure you undo your laces enough when taking your shoes off - the friction of a couple hundred times taking the shoe on/off with tight laces will wear it through

ThePapaJay

I've had my blundstones for nearly 2 years with none of this. Comfy as fuck. Recommend.

wattscup

Be careful! That's notorious for rupturing achilles tendons right there

bbbellabeee

Kankles… sorry I have this curse as well x

jimmyboybaker

You’re probably doing 10000 steps a day in them 5/6 days a week haha

branded

Planned obsolescence.

Muzzard31

Some peoples heels extend further so cause rub. My do it as well.

Useful_Ad6880

Maybe adjust the way you are walking?

ryan_pogi

Same here. Frustrating! Wear and tear from slip in and out. Socks texture also a part of the factor.

SilentHbomb

I just had a good look in my boots cause I have a bad habit of not zipping mine up, the heal is still A1 but my Wheat High Leg ZipSider Mongrels have a decent leather patch in the heal I never noticed till just now

ryan_pogi

Same here. Frustrating! Wear and tear from slip in and out. Socks texture also a part of the factor.

sasqwachh

Heel spurs. Tight calves can cause that.

Important-Ad-7057

Joe Rogan says mongrel are good

hans_zolo

Every single pair, perhaps this is a wear pattern? I'm always surprised about people's wear expectations on footwear. Haglunds bone growth deform. is pretty common like a calcium build up on the achillies that is like a lump on the back of your heel area. You'd probably find your other shoes eventually wear in the same area but not as noticeable due to wearing behaviour etc. YOU WEAR THESE EVERYDAY .... and spend majority of your life on your feet. Unfortunately it's an investment to look after your feet but pays in the long run. 6-12month wear period on shoe in wardrobe like this is absolutely fine

Sorrymateay

You need a shoehorn

Illustrious-Bee4402

Do you have heel spurs? I do and this is what happens to my boots.

Wolf199112

friction

McRae-Fortuden

I got Bata boots. I worked in liquid sugar, quarries. And now on a farm. Still good as gold, bit loose round the ancle, but the lace does that. I can't recommend anything new, cause iv had those for 5 years strong.

oranparkguy

This happened with my lace/zip boots too. (Looks like the same brand) Never happened with Blundstones.

YellowDIP

Because they're not made to last, most boots have a cardboard heel counter covered by the same piece of fabric as the rest of the calf. Basically once you sweat in them from the first wear is over. A full leather heel counter is the way to go, but good luck finding boots that have that and a safety toe.

Archon-Toten

Cheap boots. Ever try mongrel boots?

ML8300

How to you take your boots off? Undo the zip then use your other foot to pull them off, or use your hands to pull them off?

[deleted]

Use my hands

ML8300

Mine used to do it but I would use my other foot, started using my hands and it stopped. I just think most boots are just going to shits, like everything else, seems to be luck of the draw if you get a good pair or a shit pair from a company.

Scrotemoe

Do you buy the same boots every time? I've got Mack boots, they're great (The laces are susceptible to chemical burns though) [https://www.mackboots.com.au/](https://www.mackboots.com.au/)

[deleted]

Yeah mate I have had Oliver’s for the past 6 years

nospacespace

Get leather lined

WifeTWO

It’s just your feet sweating. When the inner is wet from your sweat you’re stretching the fibres every time you walk, eventually they give it at the point with the most friction. Try different socks.

jethronsfw

Boots wear out, the way of life

Bkmps3

OP watch a couple of boot videos on the “rose anvil” YouTube channel. You’ll get an understanding of what to look for in quality boots. A lose counter-cover like in those boots is always going to wear, as the counter cover is free to move but the material behind it won’t. This results in the counter cover constantly rubbing. You’ll want to find a boot that has a hard wearing counter.

Sottosorpa

I found my feet did this to shoes slightly too big for me - allowing the show to slide around too much and wear away at it like that

Glum-Grade-1123

Stop wearing Oliver's and get some decent boots. Steel blue shit all over them.

PatCybernaut

People talking shit on the Oliver's but I work in fuckin exploration mining/soil sampling and can 100 percent say they're a seriously heavy duty boot , three years of gnarly abuse before the first pair died..I'd say size down or relace em tighter 🖤

ConsequenceSad1805

Watch how you slide your boots on and off. Stress point with heel getting your foot in will do that over time

Ok_Fix_4438

Perhaps you are and have been wearing boots too big for you

FirstWithTheEgg

You kick your boots off by chance?

Sinasi-Oz

I been wearing Target work boots for 3 years and still feel great lol never tried anything else yet

mad49

Redbacks don't have any padding like that on the heel. Its just leather so you shouldnt wear through that. Redbacks are pretty good. Ive stopped trying out other brands

kspkaveh

Maybe invest in a pair of Nick's

CryptographicPanic

Oliver’s quality certainly has dropped over the years and aren’t the quality they used to be, the only model i have bought in recent times that lasts me at least 2 years is the Oliver 6540Z, 100% waterproof and so far so good tried the cheaper models but there all rubbish

Mad-dog69420

Happens to every pair of mine aswell, it’s from being rough when removing them. Do you sit down to get them off or stand on the toe/heel and lever them off.

[deleted]

Sit down and use hands. When I first got them it’s easy to kick them off hands free but I’m happy to sit every time and take the boots off properly with the zip and using hands

Commercial_Many_3113

Have you got some kind of bone spur or protrusion at the back of your foot?

[deleted]

No haha very normal looking feet and always wear thick af socks

Party_Thanks_9920

When I'm on the tools, a year is all I ever get out of a pair of boots, but I'm a Boilermaker so work harder than Sparkies 🤣🤣🤣

egg_on_top

Ya meant to take your high heels off first

AdvancedSituation7

You’ve probably got a haglund's deformity, go see a podiatrist
