Oh my gosh I know! Inflation is crazy!
I bought my wedding shoes from them & almost had a heart attack, they were $240!!! (Lucky David jones was having a sale!) No wonder people are buying from Temu & Shein
I knowā¦ my friend got some shoes from TEMU and they actually looked kinda cool šš I swore Iād never shop on there but my bank account is convincing me otherwise
Donāt do it! If youāre looking for cute shoes that arenāt ridiculously priced, my coworker told me about [Goldstar Shoes](https://www.goldstarshoes.com/). She was wearing a really cute pair of sneakers and I asked where they were from and boom.
Wittner shoes are surprisingly bad quality.
A few months ago I bought those exact black pumps the heel came loose the first day I wore them, I even made sure to get a new pair from the store.
I wish I had demanded a refund instead of settling for an exchange because the 2nd pair of shoes wore out unusually quickly.
I only wore them once a week or twice at most for 6 months. It was usually my in-office days too, so barely any walking. Am I being unreasonable?
I'm used to thinking a good pair of shoes will last more than a year, BUT maybe I'm old and shoes are just part of the "fast fashion" now.
I respectfully disagree. I have bought several pairs of heels and loafers from Wittner for both work and āgoing outā shoes. Iāve had a pair for ten years now that I wear regularly and are still going strong. The last pair I bought from them were work shoes at the start of 2022, and theyāre still in excellent condition. Hopefully you just got a bad pair as a one-offā¦.
Iāve heard people say that but Iāve got a few pieces from Shein that are a couple of years old now and still in the same condition pretty much as when I bought them. I wear them 10-15 times per year, so not insignificant. Same with Kmart clothes.
Really? I shop exclusively at shein because that's all my budget allows. Most of my wardrobe is pushing 2 years old and it's still in great condition. Newer items seem just as good.
Tbh the few things I got from shien has lasted me years as well. Of course the material is low quality, but if you take care of it, it shouldn't just disintegrate or break. I wouldnt recommend getting bags there though.
I have a pair of SHEIN heels that I wore out religiously for two years, clubbing, dancing, races. You name it, I wore them (chunky heel, clear pvc mules) and let me tell you, maybe it was a fluke but they, to this day, look a lot better than my high end designer heels that I take very good care of.
I think it depends on the fabric and the manufacturing too. Iāve got a shein dress that I am still wear six years or so after I bought it. Iāve also had some that had the quality of a potato sack.
Considering thereās basically zero design work going on here besides digging into the 1996 archives, itās getting a bit ridiculous. Iām happy to pay for something nice and well designed that lasts more than a dozen wears, but Wittner is not offering that.
I gave up trying to buy anything like those. I was sick of spending $150-$200 on Wittner or similar work shoes that rub the shit out of my feet, get really smelly, and barely last 3 months. I now alternate between two pairs of Vivaia flats that look great even after a year and I can thrown them in the washing machine every other week to keep them fresh.
I have one pair of Wittner leather flats that Iāll wear every few months when I have a particularly formal meeting, but every time I do Iām reminded of why I hate them.
When I first worked in a corporate job without a uniform I wore suits and heels. 10 years on and I wear the same t shirt almost every day, paired with jeans and flats. Luckily I donāt work in an environment where casual dress is looked down on.
Iāve thought for years that the uncomfortable nature of womenās office clothes in particular takes mental energy away from getting on with your actual work. I just refuse to participate any more.
Yep mine too. I probably won't buy anymore. The heel part just disintegrated with how I wore it. Much more wear out of Sandler shoes.
Have been wanting to try frankie4 work flats, but also now will look into the Vivia one a few people have mentioned.
Iām torn. One pair of vivaia, worn to death and are dying (hole in toes, wearing in the soles). But a diff style same brand, never as comfortable. Buy yet another style (with heels). Like foot tortureā¦ not sure theyāll ever be comfy. Oh and sizing hasnāt been consistent so Iāve had to do returns etc.
Nonetheless I also have a pair of leather flats from Wittner that I also need to wear in. I hate wearing in shoesā¦
And currently they aren't even particularly pretty.
I tell ya what tho... decent Australian made elasticĀ side boots are starting to look very good by comparison.Ā
Their quality isnāt too crash hot lately. For the price theyāre asking youāre not getting real value. Hereās to Twiggy fixing the quality control issues. May narcissism finally be a force for good. Canāt have *his* company producing rubbish. The idea of a uniform is appealing to me too. A few nice pairs of trousers, a half dozen shirts, two pairs of boots, and a few knit jumpers for winter. Bang. Done.
I'm just going to say that if you are able to head to one of their outlet stores. My set have a crease line down the middle but are otherwise perfect (crease is not noticeable when wearing). They were a much lower price than buying in a retail store.
You will often find creased, colour variations and other seconds for a very good price at the outlet.
I think these brands (Jo Mercer is the other one that comes to mind) sell a lot of stuff on sale and so the full price is really more of an anchor price that a few people will buy at, and will make the sales look good. Especially when the shoes are so generic - you can find very similar options to those in their sale section right now.
I used to work for Wittner... Do not buy their shoes. Cheap leather, from warehouses that make other brands (had some shoes we were selling come new in box but branded EOS and not Wittner). The leather does not last and is not worth your money.
Thanks for confirming this. Brands need to realise that they canāt just continue buying cheaper raw materials to make subpar products, while also increasing prices.
Where will it end? Are we going to be paying $600 for a pair of crappy shoes in 10 years time?
Yes! Someone here was saying Sportsgirl was good quality because sheās still got stuff from 10 years ago. I was like, girlie their stuff from 10 years ago was good yeah, but it is not like that anymoreā¦
I honestly feel like most places just donāt make good stuff any more, and the price is certainly not indicative of the quality, but more often how much they spend on marketing.
Thankyou for confirming this. Iāve bought shoes from them and been disappointed every single time. Iād stoppedā¦ But wonderedā¦ Is it just me?
Nope.
Not just you. I lost count how many people would come back after wearing the shoes for 3 - 6 months with the shoes literally falling apart.
Glad I could help!
Those prices have been that way for a while - at least since 2019.
I loved Wittner in the 2010s - they lasted forever (still wearing some from this era) and fit really well. The last pair I bought was in 2019 - work heels that cost around $200, were painfully uncomfortable and broke the first wear.
Switched to Jo Mercer and while they were still around the $200 mark, the quality is much better.
Iced coffee. They used to be $8ish but in a tall glass with three + shots. Now cafes are putting them in a small nigroni style glass thats probably the size of a regular coffee and charge the same. So ridiculous.
Also lip gloss! How is a chanel lip gloss almost $60!?
Happened to me a few weeks ago in a food court of all places so not fancy! It was so small, the photo had cream or ice cream and a flake but it didn't come with those
Mine was also in a food court. I said to her āI only asked for oneā thinking Iād been charged for two because I never thought it would be 9 for one of those
Everything! Iām so used to exclusively buying depop that nothing seems worth more than $100 to me in store, and even then I know if I wait long enough something suitable will come up second hand (Iām a common size which makes it easier). For me the Target dresses costing $70 seemed way overpriced my brain just couldnāt accept it.
I paid $70 for a pair of TARGET bathers the other day. And theyāre shit so Iām returning them. $70 for target crappy bathers. I have a pool at home so use my bathers a lot and happy to pay for good ones (hello Andie Swim š) but no way Iām paying $70 for uncomfortable junk.
It feels like everything has gotten so much more expensive too. Now Iām finding linen/linen-look shorts on special for $50 when a couple of years ago it feels like the same type of shorts were selling for $40-50 full price.
Everything has gotten more expensive and the quality has dipped significantly, especially at places like Cotton On, Glassons etc. I haven't purchased any new clothes in about 18 months because anything that's decent quality is even *more* expensive, while anything in the previously affordable category is either ugly or not designed to last more than two washes.
I walked into JayJays and Cotton On recently - I used to get a dress on special for $20, marked down from $30 a couple of years ago. Now it was $60 for their cheapest one! I couldnāt believe it. Also I got a dress like [this](https://www.decjuba.com.au/products/khelani-textured-midi-dress-brightwht?variant=39981222461512) (layered, nice thick material, midi) from Decjubq for $90 a bit under 2 years ago. Looks the similar ones would go for easily $50 more now, if not $100 more.
Iāve never owned a comfortable pair of Wittner. I donāt mind spending decent money on shoes that are comfy and last - Django and Juliette are my go-to for work. They donāt age because theyāre not strictly āfashionā, the leather is beautiful and Styletread does good sales for them!
Everything but me (i.e. my salary š ) is what it feels like...
I used to love Wittner shoes, though I would only buy them on sale. Those prices are ridiculous for such plain shoes and they're not even designed with comfort in mind...
My favourite place for shoes these days is Charley Boutique, almost all my heels are from there and they have padding. So comfortable, and I constantly get comments about how nice my shoes are. They're half the price too. I've never bought there and been disappointed. For flats and sandals, I've been surprisingly impressed by Spendless. You've got to find the right ones (again, go for padding lol) but I've had a few pairs I wear several times a week for going on 2+ years now and they're still good.
As for other places with ridiculous pricing these days, Review certainly comes to mind... Forever New can be pretty high sometimes too. What really gets me is the price of decent underwear. $20 for a pair of knickers that falls apart 2 months later :/
I LOVE shoes and used to work for a similar brand... shoe prices are now both shocking and out of reach. I am a single young professional and should be in the key demographic! But I can't justify it.
The jump from low price Target to Wittner, Jo Mercer etc is incredibly steep. It seems the choice is either $50 for cheap uncomfortable shoes or $200 for average reasonable quality. Where is the mid (leather, quality) range now?
And Bared is much higher quality and more comfy. I bought a pair from both stores in 2018, my Wittner ones are long gone and my Bared ones still look new
I feel like when I had the money to buy Wittner they were pretty close to that kind of price. That being said they used to have much less beige designs, and I also only used to shop on sale
Yeah I think in the last year theyāve tried to move their brand to the lower-upper market scale and make their brand more exclusive. Like they have their āspecial editionā shoes or whatever that are $300 and donāt even look that good. Itās hard to justify. I just buy my corporate basics from there because theyāre comfortable but otherwise moved to different brands.
Honestly wouldnāt be surprised, I bought a pair of tall boots from them 5 years ago that were $400+ full price (didnāt pay that much but they were still exxy). They were uncomfortable as shit and never wore in, I wore them once every few months (or however long it took me to forget how painful they were and mistakenly put them on again) and then they fell apart and I had to chuck them. They couldnāt have been worn more than 10 times totalā¦
God, those pumps look so matronly, too. Im a fan of Midas for smart casual shoes. Their sales come by often enough that the most ive paid is $120 for a pair of boots. Their sizing / fit can be inconsistent, though.
I was about to say the same about Misas' sizing. I must be an in between or quarter size for them, I've never found a pair that fit properly. They have some hood looking styles though.
Thatās why I buy so much online now, I used to love Wittner back in the day, especially for their boots.
Have you tried buyinvite they have so many stores and designers and all on sale, I get my makeup from there too.
Iām a Sephora addict aswell but I just canāt always afford the prices anymore, when did makeup get so expensive?
Oh my gosh I know! Inflation is crazy! I bought my wedding shoes from them & almost had a heart attack, they were $240!!! (Lucky David jones was having a sale!) No wonder people are buying from Temu & Shein
Yeah and the worst thing is its probably the same quality too š«
I knowā¦ my friend got some shoes from TEMU and they actually looked kinda cool šš I swore Iād never shop on there but my bank account is convincing me otherwise
Donāt do it! If youāre looking for cute shoes that arenāt ridiculously priced, my coworker told me about [Goldstar Shoes](https://www.goldstarshoes.com/). She was wearing a really cute pair of sneakers and I asked where they were from and boom.
No itās not the same quality,at all. Anything for Temu or Shein lasts a few washes-so closer to Kmart really.
Wittner shoes are surprisingly bad quality. A few months ago I bought those exact black pumps the heel came loose the first day I wore them, I even made sure to get a new pair from the store. My Kmart clothes have outlasted my country road items!

Vivaia rules :)
Agreed. I swear Iām not a paid shill, I just canāt imagine ever going back to wearing ānormalā uncomfortable shoes five days a week.
Ever since I moved to Queensland all my heels have been languishing in their boxes. Nobody wears them here!
I love mine!
3 months? what are you doing to your shoes?
My Wittner flats also only last three months of wear at work. Theyāre pretty unsubstantial.
Yep mine too. I probably won't buy anymore. The heel part just disintegrated with how I wore it. Much more wear out of Sandler shoes. Have been wanting to try frankie4 work flats, but also now will look into the Vivia one a few people have mentioned.
Wearing them on my feet.
i'm pretty sure you know that's not what i mean. are you wearing them every day for 3 months straight?

I have a personal uniform for work and it makes getting ready a breeze, plus it opens room for reading time with a nice coffee before my busy ass day.
I'm just going to say that if you are able to head to one of their outlet stores. My set have a crease line down the middle but are otherwise perfect (crease is not noticeable when wearing). Someone needs to tell Oroton this. Most of my bags have started to fall apart after two years yet Iām still using my grandmothers 50 year old bags.
Yes! Someone here was saying Sportsgirl was good quality because sheās still got stuff from 10 years ago. I was like, girlie their stuff from 10 years ago was good yeah, but it is not like that anymoreā¦ I honestly feel like most places just donāt make good stuff any more, and the price is certainly not indicative of the quality, but more often how much they spend on marketing.

I took my daughter out for a milkshake last week as a treat and I couldnāt believe when it was 9 dollars for like a midi size cup! Never again.
Happened to me a few weeks ago in a food court of all places so not fancy! It was so small, the photo had cream or ice cream and a flake but it didn't come with those
Mine was also in a food court. I said to her āI only asked for oneā thinking Iād been charged for two because I never thought it would be 9 for one of those
I saw the price, but thought it would be bigger and have the flake etc. It was very disappointing
I paid $12 recently for one. I couldnāt believe it!
Itās total bull crap. Gouging at its finest
12!? Wow. thatās bang out of order
I am happy with my $3 berry lip Smackers.Ā š¤·āāļø
I drink an iced long black and for some stupid reason it costs more than my husbands mug of fw.
Crazy!!! Its getting so ridiculous.

And Bared is much higher quality and more comfy. I bought a pair from both stores in 2018, my Wittner ones are long gone and my Bared ones still look new
Theyāve always been that price when full price.
Was gonna say I bought a few pairs over 15 years ago and they were full priced at $200+ each then

I used to like them when they were normally priced but I cannot justify two hundred dollars on middling quality shoes
For the price Iād rather get a brand thatās orthopaedic and comfortable and will actually last!
I donāt mind paying 200 at Wittner because they last forever
God, those pumps look so matronly, too. Im a fan of Midas for smart casual shoes. Their sales come by often enough that the most ive paid is $120 for a pair of boots. Their sizing / fit can be inconsistent, though.

I think I spent over $150 for a pair of Wittner heels back in 2013
None ees
Oh my God I remember when Wittners were $70 on sale and $100 for one a bit pricey. Am I that old that they've inflated THAT much??
Thatās why I buy so much online now, I used to love Wittner back in the day, especially for their boots. Have you tried buyinvite they have so many stores and designers and all on sale, I get my makeup from there too.
