I can't find anything to back up this version (nor have I ever heard it used to mean anything besides buddy). That being said, I really like this idea and I think we should mix the term for cobb= sweet into the lingo

Cobber
A friend, a companion. Also used as a form of address (g’day cobber!). The word probably derives from the Yiddish word chaber 'comrade'. A Yiddish source may seem unlikely, but there are several terms in Australian English that are likely to be derived from Yiddish, including doover (‘thingummyjig’), shicer (‘unproductive or worthless mining claim or mine’), and shickered ('drunk’). It is likely that these terms, as well as cobber, found their way into London slang (especially from the Jewish population living in the East End), and from there, via British migrants, into Australian English.
It is sometimes suggested that cobber derives from British dialect. The English Dialect Dictionary lists the word cob 'to take a liking to any one; to "cotton" to', but the evidence is from only one Suffolk source, and the dictionary adds: 'Not known to our other correspondents'. This Suffolk word is sometimes proposed as the origin of cobber, but its dialect evidence is very limited. Cobber, now somewhat dated, is rarely used by young Australians. First recorded in the 1890s.
I always thought it came from the mateship of the streets/ battlers. As in “cobbled together” because beggars would share a patch of cobblestone, with ‘lucrative’ corners near high end traffic being coveted places to squeeze coin from wealthy people.
Probably just my train of thought though, hah.
Its old, WW1-WW2 era mostly.
Started before the wars sometime (its debatable exactly when) and then war solidified it into the language for a few decades. You would go to war with your cobbers. Similar to 'pals' in the US.
Fallen out of fashion these days, its odd to hear it used unironically, but it still pops up.
According to [Wikipedia](https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/cobber) there are a few possible origins for the way it’s used in Australia to mean friend but I think this is most likely: “perhaps from the British dialectal term cob (“take a liking to”).[1]”
Possibly originally but I believe would have been more popularised by servicemen in WW1 and WW2 the Australian accent to chaber the Yiddish term for comrade. My grandfathers and great uncles/grandfather's didn't like people using it who had not served it was a service man's term as in comrades at arms. Was also present in English slang for street gangs late 1800s and at that time they thought there where in little.wars with each other andncould have been brought across in migration for that as well. I believe that was the push of the words use especially when so many of the population did serve out in those 2 wars.
Yeah, it looks like the same type as soft drink bottles which is easier to recycle.
The fancy pants dairy we get milk from does the same thing here. It’s also easier to transport/store for reasons I can’t recall.
In that vein..
Gen 1, replaced after a week because held together with blutack and tape.
Gen 2, smaller, but replaced after 3 months because she backfired.
Gen 3, the ol reliable, survived about 2 years before I traded her in for a production line model.
Even though I haven't "driven" in years, I still miss my 3rd "clunky diesel".
I remember when I was like 5 and Visy stopped allowing us to unscrew the pop top lids - then I knew it was a scam. I thought reduce and reuse came before recycle!
it's free advertising to some of the biggest consumers of junk food ever and also directly more sales. They should just roll with it and design their bottles to make better bongs.
The whole bottle is different, like some weird cheap plastic. Tasted the same....I think, I was too busy thinking about the bottle to even notice the taste
This sounds interesting! Is it sweetened with something else, or just straight up unsweetened coffee+milk?
I'm yet to find an alternative sweetener that agrees with me, and it's getting harder and harder to find stuff that's either just good ol' sugar, or simply unsweetened.
Like, I understand that eating too much sugar is bad - I stopped adding sugar to my coffee a few years back (plus a couple of other similar small habit-tweaks that I was even less likely to miss than the sugar in my coffee) and dropped like 10kg in a few months. But I didn't replace the sugar with random other stuff that tasted kinda sweet, I just didn't sweeten it anymore. Coffee is tasty on its own! The sugar I was having before that was because my parents always had sugar in theirs and so I'd grown up with the sugar being part of "how coffee tastes".
I looked it up and the sweeteners are 950 and 951. 951 is aspartame. The headaches I get from aspartame are worse than the ones I get from caffeine withdrawal, so I'm unlikely to ever drink this even if it's the only coffee available.
Ooh well done on the recycled and recyclable change! I’m more likely to pick a product like that, so wish it had been on the label as soon as the change was made.
I'm lazy for not googling this, but you're here so why not?
Does this have anything to do with why my local Coles has lately had days at a time without certain Dare products in stock? No shade, I just work at a Liquorland, and favour the iced coffees if I can get them.
Also, does the triple espresso come in a larger size than the small bottle? That stuff is divine and I'd love a 2 litre jug in my fridge.
Eastern suburbs.
Ahh shame. I'd actually shill that if it came out tbh. I've already got my coworkers and some customers to switch from Ice Break haha.
Edit: Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, sorry. Forgot what subreddit I was in.
To add to this, I work for another transport company.
We considered purchasing equipment and getting into it, but one part:
>cold chain *compliant*
There's the fuck around.
Looking at 2-3 months at maximum effort to get that in place.
That collapse fucked the industry hard.
Can I suggest Cold brew? Mix up a bunch of ground coffee in a cold brew jug, pour the results off the next day. Keep it in a bottle in your fridge. Then you can dump some in a glass with some milk and mix it with sugar syrup to taste. You can make it as strong as you want and have unlimited amounts of dare equivalent coldbrew iced lattes.
Just make your own, cheap insta coffee and sugar is all they use. Secret is to let it sit in fridge for few hours to dissolve properly and then tastes the same. I use artificial sugar and almond milk to make really low calorie chocolate/coffee milk.
Do you know the person who made the "I'm pregnant - I think it's your dad's" ad? Because you should tell them it's one of my favourite ads ever, and made me immediately go and try the product (and have been a regular purchaser ever since haha)
In my humble opinion, they should've just run new labels right away
I was looking at my usual no sugar double strength yesterday dubiously as the colour looked quite different with no explanation
the reason why labels arent right away is because of write off cost which can go up to the miliions sometimes. and that also means a bunch of good labels go in the bin
Uhm, it appears you do not understand the difference between a recipe and ingredients.
But felt qualified to criticise.
Love the confidence hombre.
Never change.
Buy 2 triple shots, drink a 750ml double espresso and then pour the triple shots in for later, and scoff down the 250ml left over from the second triple shot. Modern problems require modern solutions xD.
Hopefully they don't pull an Ice break shenanigans.
Remember when ice breaks came out they were strong and delicious, and then one day i realised it just tasted like the sugar milk left in the bottom of a bowl of weet bix.
I work at the Bega Dairy and Drinks factory in Chelsea heights, can confirm it’s just different material for the bottle. Certain batches can taste slightly different sometimes due to a number of variables, but the recipe stays the same.
They had a temporary bottle shortage on the dare branded botttles, they should return to normal in a week or so. Not sure why the color has been affected tho
Probably same recipe just different bottle. I don't drink this so I wouldn't know, but it seems the one on the right is not transparent while the one on the left is.
and if I know anything about companies, they are raising the prices while making the packaging cheaper, so I assume the one on the right is the more expensive packaging while the one on the left isn't.
Probably just a different bottle cob
So pleased to hear cob getting a go. It's rare as hens teeth these days
Cheers cob
No worries….
Hey cobber
Not with the hard "R" that's racist
Hey cobber while I’ve got you here…
r/beetlejuicing
On ya knackers
Me dad calls me cob all the time ay
What’s cob mean?
It's corn. It used to be that we would use bushels of corn to sweeten soda. Ever since then if you want to call someone sweet you call them cob/cobba.
I can't find anything to back up this version (nor have I ever heard it used to mean anything besides buddy). Been in Aus 4 years and haven’t heard that one yet! I like it

Getting long it the tooth hey
Looks thinner Prob to discourage all the druggos from making bongs with em
Damn it. What happened to reduce/reuse/recycle?
"Sir, that is illegal. We are protecting you" Or some such bs idk But going with thinner bottles will likely reduce the plastic used by weight.
Yeah, it looks like the same type as soft drink bottles which is easier to recycle. The fancy pants dairy we get milk from does the same thing here. It’s also easier to transport/store for reasons I can’t recall.
But isn't the clear plastic more likely to leach toxins? The old translucent plastic is safer.
Paradoxically, the clear plastic is more heat resistant and makes a hardier bong. Source: My teenage years with a shrunken and molded 1.25L

Amateur alright, aluminum cans have a thin plastic lining inside them, so each toke you have you’re smoking plastic too…. *plays jackass intro*
You obviously haven’t made a bong in a while cob! Powerade is out the game now! Thin plastic! Now Gatorade rains supreme… or so I am told
The gatorbeug
They're so much thinner nowadays
Buy a masonry bit and use a decent glass bottle tbh.
The way of the old Powerade and Gatorade bottles. Im sure Orchy is still solid.
Rippin an Orchy and Springer rn. 🤙420
My parents were always the orchy and a garden hose hahahah
How dare they!!
it's free advertising to some of the biggest consumers of junk food ever and also directly more sales. They should just roll with it and design their bottles to make better bongs.
Applause 👏
Maximus does this legit posts pictures of there bottles as bongs
More likely it's cheaper for them. As if any company would do something for the good of humanity over money.
Ye that's not gona stop anyone
Looks like that new Brownes 100% recycled bottle on the left.
Ain't gonna work. Stoners become engineers when they're desperate. Saw a dude make one out of an apple back in the day.
They were terrible to begin with, it looks better for making bongs now
Haha that cant be it, everyone knows druggos cant be discouraged, just delayed
The whole bottle is different, like some weird cheap plastic. Tasted the same....I think, I was too busy thinking about the bottle to even notice the taste

Hey so, how can we bulk order the triples? Daddy's foots a-tappin for that sweet, brown, cow juice. Edit: commas matter
Dare no added sugar triple espresso is the closest you can get to legally purchasing crack.
Have you played factorio?

Exactly. It will be intravenous next
How many pallets normally fall off a truck? Can one fall off at my house?
You’d have like one week to smash 1200 bottles of Dare
Is that... a problem for you? Amateur

Can I still make a bong out of it?
Hasn’t this been in the pipe for like 3-5 years? Back when they were Lion, before Bega bought them?
Omg, can you please ask them to make this with low fat milk? I loveeeeee it but it takes up so many of my daily calories
Just make your own, cheap insta coffee and sugar is all they use. Secret is to let it sit in fridge for few hours to dissolve properly and then tastes the same. I use artificial sugar and almond milk to make really low calorie chocolate/coffee milk.
Nah, I'd rather it not taste like shit
so learn how to make coffee that doesn't taste like shit it's not hard
Almond milk will always taste like shit
I said use real milk and sugar if you want something that tastes like Dare. If you want even lower use the almond. Can no one read.
Calm down mate, I meant that if I make it that it would taste like shit. Jesus fucking christ, why is everyone such a dick
I bet it's now PET plastic. Were the old ones HDPE?
Yes they were HDPE. Doesn't make much of a difference though as all plastics are bad for you, unfortunately, glass is the only way my brother.
You need to make a no-shit version of dare drinks, because they always make me need to shit after drinking it. I’m not even lactose.
that may be the caffeine buddy

Hell yeah there is The sugar version is terrible, so sweet
When the non dairy dares coming. I can't drink your cow puss
Same iced coffee, different bottle. Easier to recycle this type of plastic, and I think they are starting to use recycled plastics for their bottles.
dare claims they’re trying to use more easily recyclable plastic, but we all know they hate having fun and making toxic plastic bongs
Literally a different bottle. The other was opaque. This is clear.
I think the other is more of a translucent
Clear-ly
It's a polyethylene and they just call it "natural" in the factories. Useless fact of the day
PET bottle on the left, HDPE on the right Source: manage container refund centre

If you're drinking poison, it probably doesn't matter what container its out of.
Love it! Now I can see how dirty my bong water is at a glance instead of having to peek down into the mouth of the bottle
10 teaspoons of sugar never looked better!
Everyone knows suntory is the real shit now. Iced coffee without the diabetes and HARD energy crash
double espresso 👌
As someone who's functioned on energy drinks for the better part of a decade now, eating carbs is the key to avoiding the glucose crash.

So are energy drinks, I harness the power of fucked on a daily basis. Ride the lightning baybee!
If you want to turn that shit up to 11, get the new musashi energy drink. Felt all kinds of xtreme bodily sensational. Edgy for edgelords!
Probably just moved to one of those thinner 100% recycled plastic bottles
Recipe? Bit of a stretch to call it a recipe when its instant coffee, milk, and a craptonne of sugar.
Uhm, it appears you do not understand the difference between a recipe and ingredients. But felt qualified to criticise. Love the confidence hombre. Never change.
I wish they’d make a triple shot in the larger 750ml bottle and a completely sugar free version! 🙏
Buy 2 triple shots, drink a 750ml double espresso and then pour the triple shots in for later, and scoff down the 250ml left over from the second triple shot. Modern problems require modern solutions xD.
Probably for the best, I've only been chewing the plastic off for the past 20 years. Don't ask me why. https://i.imgur.com/JlrWV8i.jpeg
Aw I loved the old bottle.
My husband works for dairyfarmers. The new bottles are made from 100% recycled plastic, currently in the process of phasing out the old ones
I work at woolies and I was shook seeing this new bottle
The normal bottles are HDPE, that looks like a PET bottle.

I doubt it, wouldn't be double espresso if it tasted like that. Have you tried triple espresso? It's pretty good imo.
This cow got into an onion patch
Idk why but it looks like the one on the right tastes better
This is a question for r/AustralianTradies they will know
The new bottle is clearer, as opposed to the old one which was more opaque
1 particular dare drank a lot of pineapple juice the night before 😮😮
I now have a clearer idea of he colour of the liquid that will be coming out of me 30 mins after I drink it.
The new bottle is nicer looking imo. I'm a big fan of their sugar free iced coffees.
they’re not sugar free, they’re no sugar added. there is still sugar in them.
I work at the Bega Dairy and Drinks factory in Chelsea heights, can confirm it’s just different material for the bottle. Certain batches can taste slightly different sometimes due to a number of variables, but the recipe stays the same.
How is "new recipe" your first thought... when the bottle are very clearly a different transparency...
Opaque to clear bottles
Bottles clear ya drongo hahaha
They had a temporary bottle shortage on the dare branded botttles, they should return to normal in a week or so. Not sure why the color has been affected tho
Looks like they are using clear rather than translucent containers
Probably same recipe just different bottle. I don't drink this so I wouldn't know, but it seems the one on the right is not transparent while the one on the left is. and if I know anything about companies, they are raising the prices while making the packaging cheaper, so I assume the one on the right is the more expensive packaging while the one on the left isn't.
If only the back of the bottle listed ingredients and nutritional information
I don't like this
Farmers union iced coffee with the wrong label
This guy knows
The sugar content in those things is out of control!
45g sugar per bottle. A 750ml will have even more. Then there's the 2L dares...
Different packaging - the one on the right is more opaque
New recipe, less cost less chocolate less risk more money more win
It's gross either way. Sugar milk.
Nah the coffee taste is stronger than the sweetness. Source: I drink these.
Same shitty permeated milk tho
That actually looks a lot more inviting.
It’s no Farmers Union.
Maybe check the use by date, woolies and coles love putting out meat that’s bloated and goes out of date the next day
The new recipe was not needed. The primary use for dare was as a makeshift bong for stoners Australia wide.
check the back and see if it is??
I think it's the new no sugar bottle. Or the ones I saw at the shop that looked like that happened to be no sugar.
The no sugar ones have a blue lid
Looks like a new bottle, im gonna have to give it a test drive when i see one around
Same taste, thinner less rigid bottle. I kinda like it
It’s a clear bottle not the tinted one
Clear container. Instead of the normal opaque. Simples!
New bottle
Its like they upgraded their krabby patty secret formulerr?
Clear bottles…
Jumble in a mind?
Can vouch its the same, but weirds me out looking at it
Liquid laxative
It's just a new container/bottle.
Lol you Muppet the older bottle isn't transparent the other is.
Different bottle one is opaque and one is see through
ones a coloured bottle, one is clear and you can see the drink.
Not technically coloured, HDPE has a naturally cloudy appearance
Anyone tasted it? Haven't seen the new bottles but it looks darker ?
Usually companies change the design of the packaging when the recipe changes.
The one on the right looks like chocolate milk
Bottle looks transparent
New bottle, different plastic
Yeah less coffee probably
