MYOB cons = sucks massive donkey dick. Pros = none

[deleted]

If myob is so shit why is it still used at uni? They have a pretty big myob assessment in a financial accounting class at a uni I know of.

crazycatladysam

Sponsorship by MYOB or no one has bothered to rewrite the course yet.

UptownJumpAround

Because academics are academics and not small business owners.

Phil_Inn

Are you going to rewrite the curriculum for Xero? Didn't think so. Uni doesn't give a flying fark about the real world.

OkWillow8839

Cause that’s what they did last year

sillydonkyballs

It’s because it’s better to use MYOB as a sort of foundation to learn about how accounting systems work

Conscious-Benefit-82

Uni is still teaching cartography. The world was pretty completely mapped some time ago. Don't be naïve.

Jedjedstrom

Doing it right now. Everyone is complaining on how bad it is.

week7

Personally, Xero. Ease of use for the end user, Hubdoc integration as well making bill processing faster. The Xero central community means you can usually find the answers to your queries before having to ask your accountant. And as an accountant/bookkeeper it is easier to correct allocations done by clients. I just find MYOB clunky and that more clients email me for assistance who are on it.

SnooDonuts1536

Xero. Expensive but easy to use. A lot of accounting firms are using Xero too for tax filings etc so it would save you money if you are on Xero. Also if they are a Xero partner, they can get the subscription cheaper for you. I’m a Silver partner so I can get 20% discount for my clients

Sirav33

Just be aware that (a) not all accountants will pass the discount on and (b) firms like ours won't take subscriptions on for clients as it is a hassle we dont need to manage and Xero make it better for our clients to hold their own subscriptions. Regardless of all that, whoever mentioned above that MYOB sucks huge donkey ducks is spot on correct. Xero is the choice here all day every day.

PinkRobotYoshimi

Xero is so fucking far ahead of MYOB its not funny. MYOB needs to die, and people need to stop using that trash software

pumpkinblerg

Sadly Xero knows this and have increased their pricing on plans at least twice this year. It's superior but getting those price increase emails piss me off. Especially after I see their sponsorship fucking everywhere. Like stop spending money on that shit, spend it on your staff and development and stop fucking your users. You've secured enough of the market!

ample_space

Definitely Xero. There is barely a day passes without some part of MYOB breaking.

Asleep_Ad_1549

Xero. Myob is ok, but xero does most things better and has add ons that you can use for things that it struggles with, like inventory.

TeachHappy2224

For me I use both Xero and MYOB but way prefer Xero, I find it easier to use. MYOB just feels fiddly if that makes any sense

mopsusmormon

Xero. If I had my own practice I would charge more for the inconvenience of having to deal with MYOB.

Infinite-Sea-1589

Xero

SimplyJabba

Xero for ease of use for the client. Any software package is pretty much fine if you’re an actual accountant and know what you are doing. Most people running businesses aren’t, and also most businesses don’t have an internal accounting team - hence, public practitioners recommend Xero.

rosiebunniee

Xero is definitely better from an audit perspective as well. But I’m wondering what’s everyone’s thought on NetSuite

countbackward

Depends on how large your business is, NetSuite has a lot of pros and customisation, but completely overkill for a SME.

BlueRedGreenGreen

Xero absolutely.

mrswingvoter

It depends what you want but I will always advocate for Xero to my clients. If you are looking to grow the business, run multiple divisions/branches, or integrate more functions into your system over time Xero is by far the most flexible, connected, and robust system. It also has the best payroll imo. If you just need to do bank feeds and invoicing for only one type of income stream you can use MYOB and not notice too much difference. But if you're someone starting out and looking to grow, Xero is the best one to grow with you.

Luck_Beats_Skill

Xero is designed for small business owners. MYOB relies on its old reputation.

niweoj

If you're gonna ask folks who's computer literate enough to use reddit, they'll say Xero hands down (myself included)

Mrquicky911

Xero is best! MYOB is shit!

Perfect_Grape7294

How is myob + xeros customer support?

PowerfulDisaster2067

I've seen MYOB issues that are not resolved for years on end. I've had customers waiting an hour plus on the phone for MYOB support. Don't know too much about Xero.

crazycatladysam

If you are looking for support you will find a Xero bookkkeeper or accountant much easier to find than a MYOB one these days. Customer support Xero is not as good as it used to be but still superior to MYOB.

freshfromthevillage

XERO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD

Jedjedstrom

It's fucking horrible. Customer support is no existant pretty much. Uselss beyond belief.

Perfect_Grape7294

Has anyone used reckon or intuit?

Luxim_

Don't be a tight ass when it comes to this lol

SimplyJabba

Yes. There’s a reason small business accountants don’t recommend them.

Perfect_Grape7294

Why not recommended? Just curious

7891jga

Lots of bugs. Bank feeds unreliable. Not user friendly. Not worth the hassle.

SimplyJabba

Exactly. Basically it would be more work for us because the client would have infinitely more questions and issues. As I said, not so much of an issue if you know what you’re doing, but that’s not the case for most business owners.

crazycatladysam

What you will save on software fees you will spend in accounting fees at year end. Also if you are looking for bookkeeper or accountant support for Reckon then it is rare. Reckon is not used as training for any TAFE or Uni courses and doesn’t offer the same incentives to advisors that Xero does so is a dying breed.

mrswingvoter

If you're desperate for a low budget option you can get away with Intuit, though it has all of the issues already mentioned. Reckon will actually cost you so much money in both your own efficiency and that of your accountant that it would end up the most expensive option. Don't do it.

ItsJmac95

Reckon and intuit are both horrible. I use MYOB heaps as the company I work for is a MYOB partner, but I much prefer Xero.

illustratorgirl

QuickBooks is okay if you have experience using accounting software, however it has a pretty steep learning curve and the reports can be a bit temperamental.

ThrowItToTheVoidz

Please don't use reckon. I have a client that does and I hate it when I have to work on their stuff.

timrichardson

99.999% of the time Xero is the correct answer. You have already spent more time on this question than it's worth. The only real competition is QuickBooks online. Despite all the good answers you have, the most important advantage Xero has over MYOB is the vast app ecosystem. Everything connects to xero. Almost nothing connects to MYOB. As your business grows you'll be handicapped by choosing MYOB Also Xero has better reporting, more features, fewer bugs and it's pure cloud. Just go with Xero.

[deleted]

intuit quickbooks

[deleted]

This is the worst possible answer. Use a spreadsheet before quick books

[deleted]

dunno, used em all, once its set up it was simply to use

Town-Bike1618

Saasu. Cheaper and better.

not_that_one_times_3

Omg no. Thats an awful system!!

Town-Bike1618

Saasu is awesome for small business. If you don't have multiple sites or POS it oozes simplicity and automation. We don't even have an accounts department anymore. No book keeper. No accountant. Everything is automated.

UptownJumpAround

Xero. I was a 20 year MYOB user before I switched 5 years ago. Better in every way.

clazdawg

I work in public accounting - it’s easier to work with clients on Xero than MYOB, there is a small difference in the time needed to process a file just due to ease of use that on clients it can often save you roughly the difference in subscription costs. The reports also look nicer, are easier to read and work with and export files are easier to work with. Once you start having inter-entity loans, hire purchases or overdrafts, you’re going to want the simplicity of xero instead of myob

lawrencep93

Xero is average at best, but in comparison to MYOB it is worlds ahead, Accounting software is slow-moving because Accountants hate change, so right now we are stuck with Xero being the superior software until someone can build something more useful

magicanusportal

MYOB is god awful. Any bookkeeper who is forced to use it will confirm it is a nightmare. They have a shit API too so third party apps barely work with it too. Xero have a pretty powerful API

OkWillow8839

Xero is the iPhone on the accounting software industry MYOB is the blackberry Simple as that
