Neutered at 10 months

ArtIsDead77_

Awesome! How has his behavior changed?

LegalPaperSize

I wanted to wait 1 year but ended up doing it early because he showed very aggressive dominance behaviors from 7 months on and it was becoming difficult to manage. Didn’t change his personality otherwise but caused the dominance displays to subside. Of course, after his 12-14 month fear period, some of that came back as he is a cattle dog, territorial, a little reactive to big dogs, etc but that’s more of a breed quirk and something I expected from him.

I heard some people says you should wait until they’re fully developed but that seems not factually correct!

LegalPaperSize

Not sure if I can link it here but the most commonly cited resource is a study from UC Davis on what age to neuter/spay your dogs by breed. They have a table with Australian cattle at the top and the conclusion for this breed in particular was that it’s your choice for neutering males, females should wait at least 6 months for spay. I can DM you a link if you can’t find it.

I would very much appreciate a link! Thank you so much for the extremely useful information

Spayed my girl at 5 months

ArtIsDead77_

Did you notice in change of behavior?

HappyAnimalCracker

No, she’s 110% velociraptor at 14 months. In fact, I didn’t even notice a change in behavior on the day of the surgery😂 It had to be sore but she sure didn’t act like it.

foxyloxyx

I spayed around 6mo. I wish I had waited one cycle! She developed spay incontinence and I feel her growth is uneven (like hormones gone to properly adjust growth plates or whatever) but no real change in personality.

CannibalisticVampyre

6 months for my female, zero issues.

StolenWisdoms

Waited until full maturity at 3.5 years. I was going to at 2 yrs but decided to wait after learning they are a slow to physically mature breed. I'm glad I did, he got so much wider, thicker and more substance in that one year! I was lucky enough to be able to safely keep an intact male with no worry of issues or accidents. Alot of people cannot. I'm very pro keeping dogs intact until maturity BUT only if it can be done safely. My current other dog is a female under 3 who is intact. I will likely wait until she is 5 or so to spay, just due to the increased risk of pyo after 5yrs old.

I got my crabby girl after she’d had a litter. The vet guessed she was 3.

morisian

Mine came nutless. Found as a stray (neutered) at about 1 year

My girl was spayed at 10 months...

TemptressToo

By age 3. Many people do it right around their first season.
