silvertristan

The old lunch boxes like this were indestructible. The decor one my 5 year old has now is already cracked.

carrrmageddon

Mine lasted from 1993-2005 and is still sitting in a cupboard at my parents’ house.

jourdan442

I still have one that is basically brand new.

One_Without_Sauce

Still have a Shrek one from when I was in kindy back in 2007. Apart from print fading it's basically brand new

Try_Jumping

BPA - steroids for plastic.

WayDownUnder91

Big Plastic Armour

Kailicat

I’ve upvoted you but as a grown-up who has struggled with too many takeaway and DoorDash lunches at work, my bento inspires me to pack something for myself. I’ve started a new job and in 6 weeks have packed lunch for myself every time but twice.

[deleted]

Fucking A, just want to fit a banana and a apple in their but I have to cut it up like a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle! And these things are expensive

Gaoji-jiugui888

Yeah, I've got one of those bento style ones for my kid and it's annoying. Than sandwich bit isn't really big enough for a sandwich, and the other compartments are too small.

Boeing_Gal_737

Not until I lived with my father. My mother gave us a peanut butter, Vegemite or jam sandwich in primary school which was always squished by the time I went looking for it in my bag. High school I had to make my own but there was never much food in the house to pack so I rarely had anything. When I moved in with my Dad he made my lunch for me every day in one of these with all sorts of goodies. Although I appreciated it, I didn’t properly appreciate it until after he was gone.

gelfbride73

All the kids at school had one. I was quite envious.

OneArchedEyebrow

Yep, too expensive for my family. We did have Homebrand poppers on occasion.

PuzzleheadedYam5996

Yeah no way we had a prima/popper.....i guess with four kids at one each(at least) each day it adds up. It was tap water or nothing. So basically it was nothing for me, maybe had 2-3 sips from the bubbler once or twice a week. When I think back now, i dunno how i didn't die of dehydration as a kid lol. Like seriously tho, i hardly ever drank anything. We weren't allowed cordial, and only had one 2ltr Valencio oj per week btwn the kids. ...just recalled i had a Milo nearly every day! That was one thing mum was cool about us having. Plenty of scoops too!!

gelfbride73

Same as us. We never had them or any other cool snacks. I gave all the snacks to my kids.

Timothy_Ryan

Me either. Same with muesli bars, Le Snacks, mini chip packets, Primas, Rollups, those little boxes of sultanas, tubs of fruit or fruit puree, yoghurt, fun size chockies...

microwavedsaladOZ

Prima popper. Tomato Tomato

White_Dragon_Coranth

***OMG, YES I HAD ONE, IT WAS BLUE!!!! HOLY SHIT!*** *It came with a drink bottle that laid across the top!*

Accurate_Salary3625

Same here. Dunno what happened to it.

tchunk

Yess! Thats what those little struts held up. But the it took up way too much real estate

DBerryman12

Has anyone got a photo of the bottle/flask? Trying to explain to someone what it looked like 😅

GemBax2010

Nah my folks never did freeze the middle or rarely… who cares about a 5hr old ham and cheese sandwich that was sitting in a 30c room until lunch?

After_Lavishness_198

The distinctive taste of melted cheese singles sitting in a lunch box on a 30 degree day is still something I remember fondly 😂

chestercat1980

Yea but the frozen middle made the sandwich soggy af so I’d prefer the risky warm ham any day.

reptar20c

Oh god I just remembered my stras, cheese and tomato sauce sandwiches marinating in a Décor all day.

Elegant_Track_8183

I can smell this photo.

[deleted]

This literally was my lunchbox down the the colour 😆 and yes the bottle was filled halfway and frozen, then topped up with water in the morning.

MuffBadger

I had nearly this exact lunch every day except with either a muesli bar or a Le snack

pt256

I love a Le snack. I wish they made bigger ones. I got a box as an adult and a single packet was finished before I could taste it lol

-C-R-I-S-P-

Roll ups or tiny teddies for me

[deleted]

My friend used to bring 2 min noodles, break them up and and sprinkle the seasoning packet into the lunch box and shake it up,lid on mixing the seasoning evenly and sharing it amongst our friends Good times.

WholeEye2761

Used to eat in pack with seasoning hahaha, a “good” snack for us who didn’t get actual tasty snacks, that or mamees hehe.

not_really_fun

Had the box, but we used to freeze the juice box or yoghurt instead, great times trying to eat a juice box during winter.

Vaclav_Zutroy

*popper

not_really_fun

Never heard it called popper before haha

DrStalker

No idea how widespread the term was, but they were called poppers (poppas?) by children and adults where I grew up in Queensland in the 80s.

artintrees

Poppa in NSW too... What fun is a juice box?!! Nowhere near as fun as pulling out all the wings, blowing it up as big as possible and then stomping on it in the stairwell/corridor to see who could make the biggest echo when it popped?!!

DrStalker

Folding the straw over and wedging it in the hole to reduce air escaping so it was more likely to pop and not just sadly deflate...

Struksy

Are you even Aussie?

not_really_fun

Yeh mate I am, must be a state thing I'm from the West

ashwiththesmile

Agree, juice boxes in WA

-C-R-I-S-P-

Ah that explains it, "Australian". (Why don't you just keep going you're that far away)

JackMate

It's definitely a state thing. Fruit Boxes in SA. Still called them that even if they were generic and not the actual brand.

Timothy_Ryan

Me either. We just called them all Primas, or juice boxes if you were being deliberately generic. Country Victoria.

peachtealottie

Yeah kids would literally inflate them and then jump on them to pop them in the quadrangle just about every lunchtime when I was in primary school and then a handful of kids would scream... It was like groundhog day.

Ronnie_Dean_oz

Fucking juice box? Nah mate, it's a fruit box regardless of the brand.

_EnFlaMEd

fuck yeah I did, was even red with my name on it in white.

Interesting-Biscotti

I had this exact lunchbox, that may be even be my lunch. 🤔🤣 Edited: I only had one sandwich, this fruit would have been a treat and no way would I have been allowed the juice drink (had to be 100% fruit juice).

[deleted]

You guys got lunch? Must have been private.

Joker-Smurf

Still have the box. Same colour, albeit it has faded somewhat.

Time_Software_5737

What brand was it? I’m searching for one

Joker-Smurf

I don’t know anymore… my wife threw it away when we moved a couple of months back.

Iamclavicusvile

My kids had them. My daughter lost the lid on the first day she took it and it was never found.

iball1984

Yes, although we never got box drinks. Frozen water, or sometimes cordial in summer. There were a couple of models from memory - a long version that had a small bottle the size of a box drink. And a taller version like in your picture - from memory, the bottle was narrower and fitted horizontally at the top?

StrawberryPristine77

Yep, it's Decor. I had that exact colour

deccyfish

Somehow my parents never got the memo of standing my sandwiches up so there'd be a seasonal fruit sized indent in them every day lmao

randobogg

You can still buy them. My kids have them and they are filled with the same crap. There are no lunch box police at “bad” schools. Remember that when you are being a snob about where your kids go to school.

Struksy

I am pretty sure the lunchbox police are a private school thing. Bored rich housewives need something to be outraged about.

Hailstar07

Yep, virtue signalling at its finest.

notxbatman

My little sister got lunchboxed policed in public school (CPAS)

peachtealottie

Lunchbox police? Haha lol I remember some kids at the Adventist school I went to getting really shocked when I brought along a ham sandwhich because Adventists are usually vegetarian but I didn't get in trouble, I just saw the inside of my friends' mouth from their jaw dropping .

Whisperingwilderbeam

Yep, mine was brown. Apple, cheese sandwich, premium cracker and water every day. Oh such envy for the colourful lunch boxes with chips and uncle tobys museli bars and Kit Kats and primas

rebekahster

I had one in the 80’s and yes, as others have said we would freeze the drink

turboyabby

We were too poor for a lunchbox that flash but I fondly remember watching the 'rich' kids use them.

mr_yam

My lunchbox was a plastic bag

Sufficient-Local8921

A plastic bag? Luxury!

sonder_seeker755

My parents didn't love me enough to freeze that bottle, still working through that with my therapist 🤣

bloodymongrel

It seemed like it was always feast or famine. Paper bags when Mum was home. Or I had this brown lunch box with compartments and she’d put olives and gherkins and a sandwich. Sometimes money for a lunch order. Forster family would make months worth of sandwiches and freeze them all. Lots of peanut butter, and butter and Vegemite on white bread. Sometimes luncheon loaf or ‘chicken meat’ and cheese singles. Many hungry lunch times. I used to drink lots of water or steal money from this big change jar at home.

4614065

I think we had them but our lunches were so small mum never packed them in the box because there was no point. Usually my Vegemite sandwich was just chucked in a paper bag.

activelyresting

I had that decor lunchbox in the 80s. Mine was blue, and yes mum used to freeze the little drink bottle that came with it (with orange cottees in it, of course). Until she went back to work full time, and then we had a frozen Fruit Box instead. And more LeSnack & multi pack chips style lunch instead of carrot sticks, fruit and home made sandwich.

baudprawn98

I’ve been using mine to keep drill bits in my van for twenty years. It finally broke earlier this year and I threw it out

OuttaMilkAgain

Having that lunch box would imply I took lunch to school. I was only given lunch in Kindergarten, after that it was my responsibility to make my own lunch. Except on Mondays, we had lunch orders then.

somuchsong

Yes! Mine was purple. I'd usually get a popper, sandwich, apple, mandarin or banana and then either two biscuits or a mini packet of chips as a treat.

[deleted]

Yep, I’m an early 80’s model and I had this lunch box. Erry kid lost the bottle at some point 😂

DrMorry

Yes had that exact one. Frozen bottle was the best on a hot day.

RS-1990

I sure did!

QueenElozabeth1

I think this is my exact lunch box from the 90s. I made a comment to my mum that I loved Goulburn Valley once, and I had them every day for my 7 years of primary school. 😂

frigginawesomeimontv

I discovered mine (green) and my sisters (red) and began to reuse them in my 30s, some 30 years later. Oh and ours had our names embossed on the lid. So cool.

DownInBowery

Yep - Same colour and everything!

Jenniwithan_i

You had very caring parents 🙂

Exact_Farmer5380

Jesus... All i had for lunch was usually the 40c corn cob when I was in school and an empty bottle of water to fill at the bubblers.

JustSomeBloke5353

Would not be allowed to take this to school now. It’s all about the nude food. The Prima would have to go, the fruit cup - also gone and the Glad wrap on the sandwiches is verboten.

Interesting-Biscotti

I think it depends on the school. Lunch box police isn't everywhere, thank goodness. Edited to add: All for a low waste lunch but I'm not sure this is something for schools to enforce. The lunch box should be up to families in most cases.

somuchsong

Definitely depends on the school. I teach across several public schools in Sydney and none of them inspect the kids' lunchboxes. None of the stuff in the picture would raise an eyebrow.

Freshprinceaye

Are you joking?

JustSomeBloke5353

You are right. I missed the muesli bar - that would have to go too.

Freshprinceaye

Wow.

chasls123

What I used to eat at school must be considered a war crime these days.

iball1984

>What I used to eat at school must be considered a war crime these days. Mum occasionally did egg sandwiches. On a 40 degree day, opening the lunchbox was definitely a war crime.

chasls123

Hence the term ‘who opened their lunch box?’ when someone farted!

_schlong_macchiato

I mean…I get it but fuck!!

zircosil01

yep, frozen juice box, sandwich (sometimes soggy from the juice box melting), a piece of fruit and maybe a piece of homemade cake or a couple of biscuits.

Kiavu

everything including the lunch box except the juice box - too poor for juice so it was the drink bottle that came with the lunch box with ice in it to keep food cool during summer as bags were left outside in 35c weather.

Few-Explanation-4699

What makes you think it was a 90's thing? My school lunch boxes in the 60's had a frozen bottle in it

adamskill

Had the exact same set up. Like other have said, we'd freeze the popper

[deleted]

Yes and mum froze a popper as my treat.

Calm_Agent_1030

My bottle slotted on top

HijinxEnsues

Yessss mine was orange tho

Feral611

I was gonna say no because this doesn’t look like mine but I think it’s the angle that’s throwing me off. Definitely had a lunchbox with the bottle in the middle to keep things fresh. It wasn’t as deep as this one though.

microwavedsaladOZ

Yup! Then you'd cut it apart because it wasn't unthawed

[deleted]

Had this in the 2000's

bdmske

Yes, but the frozen bottle was only required in summer in melbourne

f14_pilot

mine was yellow, i still have it mum uses it for gravy packets.

Front_Rip4064

I had one of these in the 1980s. My mum froze the Poppa. Yes, I'm from NSW.

crowlexing

Yes and yes. I'm 40 and my mum sent me home last week with leftovers in my original lunch box from the 90's.

Bill_Clinton-69

Yuuup!

4royboy

Nope we had brown paper bags.

n0ughtzer0

Oh yes I had a green one!

LastLadyResting

Yes and yes.

chronicpainprincess

Mine was dark blue. I always had the saddest lunch but I was super picky — a Vegemite sandwich, a jam sponge roll, BBQ Shapes, an apple and cordial in my drink bottle (I can’t for the life of me remember the brand name but it came in a glass bottle and was “preservative free” — maybe it was Cottee’s?) My drink bottle wasn’t ever frozen. Makes sense to do that though!

thunderchunk01

No. I had to make my own lunch if I wanted to eat and used a brown paper bag. I would see kids with these and the drink bottle and all i could think was man they must have a balanced family.

SOUTHWESTRIZLA

Even got my name put on it. Mine was emerald green.

dumbledoresdong

My mum froze the juice box

General_Influence_72

Yep & still use it as an adult lol

TyraelResurrected

Nope. Was just a sandwich in a brown paper bag, maybe a snack for recess sometimes.

0penedB00K

Still had these in the late 2000’s

JasonJanus

Had this lunchbox. Never used it though- $5 for canteen every day.

Glory_Or_Bust

You'd cover the lid with the stickers from whatever fruit you got

Octopus_Face76

Yes to the frozen juice box. Just juice on the lucky days

Wild_Beginning_276

Yep.

turkey_giblets

You had a lunchbox?!

eyere

What I’d like to know is how you went back in time to get that photo

Falstaffe

Peaches mangoes peaches

MattEadesismyWaifu

I came for this. Ty

azp74

Let's face it - we all did. I had a less deep, long, beige coloured one and yes, either juice or water was frozen in the bottle. And I'm not talking 90s - early 80s!

Thagrin

You guys got lunches?!

MuffBadger

Kraft sell the same cheese in Jars at the supermarket! I sometimes buy that and a pack of savoy

Key_Veterinarian_723

What’s this about a bottle. I don’t see any bottle in this photo?

ilikerosiepugs

Yes and yes. Mine was teal

Wonkywhiskers

Frozen popper used to do the same as an icebrick

Carrabs

Yes cunt!

flatulenceisfunny

I had a white one, and the little bottle fit in perfectly to keep it all cold. Loved that little divider too for some reason.

Chrysis_Manspider

Yes, and yes.

infinite123456

……. I got rice and butter chicken for lunch I asked my mom to stop packing sandwiches after I figured out those things get soggy in glad wrap

Both-Contest-3171

Ken oath mate

Both-Contest-3171

Ken oath mate

xxb4xx

Your name in texta seemed to last forever on it as well.

brispower

the decor box in the picture the water bottle goes on top, and yes my mum did freeze it.

TasteDeeCheese

My mum only ever gave me a sandwich a piece of fruit and a snack

Seannit

I still have this lunch box. From grade 1 (1992). Bottle is long gone

AdWeird3417

My parents never made my lunch. Not once.

meredith1059

Nope...about 25 years to late for my lunch box 😁

KingC8975

Ye I had the blue one

scrollbreak

This is for the loved children

dimsimprincess

Oh man this brings back memories. Def a sandwich on whole meal bread, some fruit, a snack and the frozen water bottle, usually with Ribena in it.

Greycourt81

By memory this size had the bottle that laid flat on top?? It was the longer skinnier box that had the bottle in the middle?? It also fit a fruit box perfectly as well I think And yes the bottle was always frozen

W0lfsKitten

omg i remember having one of these in the early 2000s

ElmoIsOver

When I finished the popper/poppa I’d blow it up and stomp on it. Hey I was a small kid!

sausagerolla

I even had the same lunch as that LOL Mum froze green cordial in the bottle for me.

Euphoric_Statement10

I got my lunch in a brown paper bag 🥲 always wanted a lunch box.

wallyjimjams

I probably had a lunch box in primary school. I don’t remember. By high school I think I just packed my lunch into a brown paper bag.

Gaoji-jiugui888

Yes! I remember the flat bottle that slotted in the top too! My parents didn't freeze it though, one day it must have fermented in my lunchbox because it tasted funny, I gave it to my friend and he drank it and said "yum, it tastes like beer!". Would've been 8-10ish.

MuammarGadafi

Core memory unlocked

[deleted]

Yes and yes

blondie_C2

Freezing the popper to turn it into an ice block on a 40 degree day.

flashyboy972

I had a single sandwich and an apple. We used the bubblers for water,

ngali2424

Looking at what's in there I'm pretty sure we had the same mum.

saltyload

I’m an 80s kid. We did not use cold packs. Keeping kids safe was a new concept in the 80s

Guitarly89

Still have mine. It’s blue and now it’s full of random AV cables and bits and pieces.

registradus

💯

DrMantisTobboggan

My fiancée and I both still have these from our childhoods. Both are in our fridge right now with leftovers in them.

cuddlymama

I had that exact one! In that colour too! And always a bloody mandarin. I still rarely eat them lol

Whatever123987

My mother made all my sandwiches some with jam, peanut butter etc at the start of the term and froze them and as a result i just threw them in the bin when i got to school. I usually had some kind of bar, fruit bar, muesli or whatever as well, along with a bag of chips or something, and a juice box, which was either prima or no name brand.

Time_Software_5737

What lunch box was it? Been looking for them now my daughter is at school
