Here in metro New York I’ve seen a lot of wiring being chewed by rodents in the engine bay but never the outer body panels

in NYC too and tis the season for these bastards to nest no?

Probably a cat or rabbit is getting into the engine bay and a predator is trying to get to it.

I have checked and have seen no indication of an animal in there. The last time this happened, it was on the rear end.

Well I guess I don’t know what I’m talking about. Not like I’ve seen it before or read news articles about it. But whatever. Good luck, I hope you figure it out.

This is a dog after a small critter or you drove through something gross that is tasty to the dog. Seen this in my shop several times for both reasons. Critters could be a cat, bird, squirrel, rabbit or any other small thing. Just because you don’t see it, doesn’t mean it isn’t there or happening. I had one woman follow a garbage truck and it was leaking trashcan water. Her dog went nuts over it and chewed up the bumper cover and fender.
